I don't think that this is true; it's more that the rest of the year is "Straight month", so to speak.

The whole "rest of the year is _____ month" case never sat well me whenever someone brings it up.  My household never put stock into what people were or made a big deal about details like that.  We knew that not everyone was exactly the same, but we still treated others as people.  It was a very simple outlook on things.

Florete's post sums up my opinions on the matter quite nicely, but I want to ask you to reflect on this stance. Trans people exist. That's a fact. You're literally telling real, actual people that you wish they didn't exist. That's pretty fucked up.

You're way off the mark of what I'm trying to say.  I'm saying that I wish they would just pick a side they prefer and be done with it.  It's the confusion behind it all that I wish didn't exist, not the people themselves.

I am a little curious what your ideal execution of Pride month would

Honestly, I'd much rather it not be a thing at all.  But to give your question a proper answer; something that's a lot less "in your face", where there's not news of a rally every other day.

9 minutes ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

why are you not keen on the idea of a demographic of people existing?

Because I view Trans as a big monkey wrench to how the world works, and it conflicts with a personal preference of wanting things to be simple, or relatively easy to understand.

15 minutes ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

What opportunity do you feel like you lost because Pride exists?

None, fortunately.  The only job opportunity I ever lost had nothing to do with who or what I am.

18 minutes ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

Nothing is stopping you from trying to create the same opportunity for yourself, the same way they did.  I don't see how the point stands much at all...

If I ever did create something, then I'd make the opportunity available to everyone (age permitting of course).

23 minutes ago, Eltosian Kadath said:

Are these not your words, or was this some dishonest and sensational hypothetical about other people?

It's a feeling that exists, yet for the sake of privacy, I can't say who feels this way.

Haven't been paying much attention to gaming news have you, as numerous videogame companies have had some fairly heinous amounts of discrimination against women come to light...

Were there not any women in those environments at all?  I've heard of women be harassed in those work environments, but I haven't heard of any instances of them being completely excluded.

  3. 1 hour ago, Florete said:

This does not tell me you support them, it tells me you're fine with them existing as long as they do so in their own little bubble where you don't have to notice them.

For Trans and Queer, that's exactly how I feel.  I don't feel like I'll ever be comfortable around them, but the atrocities they faced should never have happened.

As for LGBs, I do support them.  A long time ago, I was weary of the idea of two people of the same gender being lovers.  However, after I attended a Lesbian wedding back when I was a kid, and saw how it was no different then any other wedding I've heard about before that one, that's when I started supporting it.

New opportunities are being created for specific people.

For specific people, which excludes others who aren't of those people.  My point on that still stands.

    21 minutes ago, Florete said:

It's like when a game-development class for women opened up and people asked where the class for men was: it's every other class

That's nonsense and you know it.  Since when are there general environments like that these days which actively exclude women?

    21 minutes ago, Florete said:

yet you also apparently feel alienated

I never said that I did personally.  Do not put words in my mouth.

    21 minutes ago, Florete said:

By "dishonest" I just mean that you say one thing while believing another, even if you don't realize it yourself. It's not tough to understand that.

You're pretty much saying that I can't support LGB just because I'm not any of those things.  That's absurd.

I've definitely never heard of anyone getting jail time for misgendering or dead-naming anyone, though, and I honestly doubt that such a law actually exists, but I haven't exactly bothered to look it up.

    https://www.californiafamily.org/2018/02/good-news-law-penalizing-misgendering-with-hefty-fine-and-or-jail-time-being-legally-challenged/

This article says that people can get up to a year of jail time for misgendering another person.

  5. 1 hour ago, Florete said:

What's with this idea that bringing awareness to one thing requires the exclusion of everything else?

That's how it happens though.  To provide opportunities to a certain group of people who are commonly oppressed for whatever reason, you have to deny others not of that group a chance to grant them that opportunity.  Same applies even when none of that stuff is part of the equation.  Giving one person a job means you have to deny another candidate if there's no more open spots available.

    1 hour ago, Florete said:

It is not unthinkable to have certain misgivings about Pride Month specifically, but your post comes off as very dishonest and disrespectful.

You sound like you understand what it is I'm saying, yet you say that I'm coming off as dishonest, which makes no sense.

I find that extremely odd, given that your point was focused heavily on "Straight Pride" even though I said that Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual were the parts of LGBTQ that I do support, but then you say nothing about Trans or Queer, the parts of LGBTQ that I don't fully support.  It's like you're trying to spin my words.

  6. I have very conflicting thoughts on this subject, as someone who hates sensationalism, but doesn't wish for anyone to feel like an outcast or face abuse.

Pride month seeks to stop alienating those who are LGBTQ and the abuse they face, however in a double standard fashion it also alienates those who are sexually straight and have no conflicts about who or what they are, and Pride month supporters are hostile towards them if they have even the slightest misgivings.  Between the double standard nature of this and my hatred of sensationalism, it's easy to see why I don't like execution of Pride month.

Just to give my own thoughts of what I think about LGBTQ:

While I support those who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, I'm not the most keen of the idea of there being trans people, even though I am against the abuse they face.  The ambiguity can lead to dishonesty due to them sometimes not fully committing to one side or wanting their preference before the change is completed, and I dislike how there's nothing in the law saying they HAVE to be honest.  On the other hand, there is a law saying you have to refer to them as their preferred pronoun in workplace environments, and breaking it CAN lead to jail time, which I think is absurd.

Does anyone else feel a similar conflict towards this subject as I do?  Where you're fine with what it's aiming to do, but hates how it was handled?

It's understandable if you don't get that hefty a dose of foreign culture, which happens to be the case for many of us. I think I was watching a documentary on the Black Death that mentioned a doctor to the Pope where I first realized the name could be pronounced as something other than "Gai".

The World Cultures class I took back when I was in school didn't help with pronouncing names.

  8. Go figure Kent and Sain get added not long after I made a poll about Red & Green duos in Fire Emblem.

Nergal is still missing.  Not many Primary Antagonists left to add, and it doesn't help that he's one of those "evil sorcerer" villains which isn't original, so I think his chances are slim.

I was another who incorrectly thought Guy would be "Guy" and not "Ghee".

So much for Ascended Heroes following a theme.  While this is Florina's first alt, I don't think she fits the bill for an Ascended slot.

IS's **** sucking for Three Houses continues.  "Fatigue?  What's that?"

Stahl, I feel, is just too boring in a game where everyone has some personality quirk. Save for being hungry, I guess, but not even to a "joke" degree like Ilyana received. Also, I don't recall him having any real rapport with Sully.

The thing that brought down their support for me was when Sully started fretting about her self image as a female knight after Stahl gets a round in after training together a few times.  Even though it's a realistic worry, it bleeds into her character too much, and in her supports (I hate her support chain with Lon'qu).

On the other hand, I appreciate how down to earth Stahl is.  Sometimes you need a character like that, even if it means they don't stand out.

Forde is, in my opinion, one of the best-written characters in the franchise, and he plays well off of Kyle. So, easy choice for me.

Forde is a pretty good character, and the A support between him and Kyle is one of my favorites in Sacred Stones (a game that has a lot of good supports).

Whenever I play Sacred Stones these days, I usually duo 5x with Ephraim and one of the two cavs, and is usually good enough to keep using.

  10. While there's not a Red & Green Duo in every Fire Emblem game, it's there in most entries, and sometimes changes up how it's handled.  Which one is your favorite from across the series?  Can be from liking them as characters or as units.

Edit: Apologies for any redundancy with how I made this or if it looks sloppy in any way.  Was my first time making a poll.  Also forgot to add Kein and Alva from Thracia 776.  Mention them as your favorite for them to get a vote.

But when I did use her, I found her surprisingly usable.

Anytime I've tried using Setsuna, her levels are mostly either HP and Speed or just Speed.

1 hour ago, Dark Holy Elf said:

I personally prefer using her to Mozu in Birthright (as mentioned, Mozu is much more tempting in Conquest). They're pretty similar, but Setsuna starts two levels higher (with better str/spd/hit), a bow rank higher, and most importantly she doesn't consume a valuable earlygame Heart Seal. Mozu's advantage is better stats long-term due to growths, but because Quick Draw + Uncertain Blow exist, in practice their long-term value is about the same: reliably double and kill one enemy on player phase, then not much enemy phase to speak of.

If I use Mozu at all these days, it's in Rev.  She faces no real competition for EXP in her paralogue or in chapter 8, and the units you do have at that point (Corrin, Azura, Felicia/Jakob, and Gunter) make a great team for helping getting her kills or chip EXP.

I've never tried Archer Mozu, as I very rarely use Heart Seals.

I just take issue with calling them "awful". Awful hit rates makes me think of e.g. Binding Blade axes, whose users have around 70 displayed hit against neutral matchups on a good day, and there's no attack stance to patch them up.

Fair enough, "awful" was a bit strong of a word for me to use.  However, to be fair too Binding Blade Axes, my expectations towards them are going to be lower because I know they won't be reliable from the start, and that's applicable to all Axe users and not a specific one.

1 hour ago, Dark Holy Elf said:

Of course you can get higher hit (by 10) via Brass + Attack Stance if that's seen as a priority. You can also get +3 hit from a Skill Tonic, I suppose - not that I ever do. I don't think things really gets worse from here; I've assumed base Setsuna for all these enemies but realistically she's levelling up pretty quickly, especially if we send her to Mozu's paralogue (86 displayed hit vs the Faceless there).

I sometimes forget that Tonics are a thing.  The issue I have with using Mozu's paralogue as an example for Birthright specifically is that it's very front loaded with units, and out of everyone who joins early, Setsuna is the last unit I would consider using that paralogue to level up.  I'd rather use it level up Mozu herself or Hayato.

  13. 3 hours ago, Dark Holy Elf said:

Setsuna joins with 8 less skill and 7 less luck than base Takumi. That's 15 less hit. Presumably if you're actually using her, she'll gain at least 4 levels before Takumi joins, though, closing the gap to about 6 skill and 6 luck = 12 hit. I'm curious as to how that gap could possibly explain how Setsuna has "awful" hit rates but Takumi has "good" hit rates, because it's not a terribly large gap in my eyes.

Most hit rates Setsuna has at base are in the lower to mid 70's, and that's when she's in a neutral matchup with the weapon triangle (so when she's facing an Axe or other Bow user).  As a player, I'd want my hit rates to at least be 80% percent to feel comfortable about an attack I'm willing to go for.  Setsuna fails to reach that benchmark unless I train her, or give her a more accurate Yumi then the Iron she comes with, which at that point of the game are only the Bronze and Bamboo Yumi, and the latter cuts into her damage a fair bit.

  14. 8 hours ago, Dark Holy Elf said:

Good thing Setsuna's default class line learns an ability that gives her +40 hit, eh? Along with an earlier one which effectively gives her +4 str. On an almost purely player phase character, these pretty much render all of her stats irrelevant except for... you guessed it, her good speed.

Except she starts at level 3, meaning you have to put up with her awful hit rates for a long while unless you early promote her.  And that Quick Draw skill that gives +4 Strength on player phase?  Takumi has it at base unlike Setsuna.

8 hours ago, Dark Holy Elf said:

    Setsuna's skill isn't that important.

Until she reaches Level 5 as a Sniper to learn Certain Blow, it is important.  How else do you think Takumi has good hit rates before promoting despite most Yumi weapons having poor hit rates?  His high Skill.  Skill matters.

Well this is supposed to be the point between part 1 and the timeskip. So logically at this point Ignatz would still be trying to please his dad by trying his hand at being a knight. Its only in part 2 that he founds the courage to be who he wants to be.

You can tell that it's something he's not fully committed to.  Even though the logic behind this design makes sense, that doesn't change how awkward he looks, and that's not a point in his design's favor.

    good bulk

I forgot how high his base HP is too.  Fun fact, he has the highest base Strength in the game (barring trial characters), and the 3rd highest base HP, behind Garret and Hard Mode Perceval.  Too bad his other bases (other then Luck) leave a bit to be desired.

1 hour ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Echidna is often viewed as the best axe wielder in the game, simply because she has speed. Really, speed is her main claim to fame, but it's one heck of a claim to fame, of course. Speed being the best stat and all.

Honestly I just like her because she's green and a female hero. How cool is that?

It is a little ironic to call her that as she gets weighed down by every Axe in the game, but it could make her a good Body Ring candidate.  Her base Skill is really high too, not just her Speed.

  17. 3 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Isn't it ironic that the game infamous for being cryptic and hating blind players offers such a simple route split? You just go one way or the other - or, alternatively, you visit the priest and get to choose the way in text form. Simple and self-explanatory.

Watching Mekkah's Negative Growths LP of Thracia is what got me to create this topic.  It was the last one I got to see, having played both routes of Sacred Stones (Team Ephraim btw, I like his maps more and that he's a rare MC who doesn't use Swords), both versions of the Blazing Sword maps you mentioned, and watched both Binding Blade LP's of Mekkah's (he did Sacae in the first one, then Ilia in the second).

  18. @Saint Rubenio First of all, I wanted to say I appreciate how detailed your response one the topic was.  You have my thanks for that.

2 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

Blazing Sword has two minor route splits in the same vein as the games you mentioned. If you don't mind, I'll include it as well.

I purposely didn't mention it because I thought it was too minor to be worth including, but again I appreciate how detailed your post was.

3 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

And then there's Wallace. Why is he here? Why is he a missable route split character? He's in Lyn mode! Imagine you play this game for the first time, you grow fond of Wallace in Lyn mode... and then he just vanishes because for some undiscernible reason, the devs decided to make him possible to miss entirely if you level your lords too much. Not to mention, if you play through Lyn hard and don't promote him, he'll be too weak to survive and will just instantly die here. Extremely stupid design, if you ask me.

That was really dumb of them.  He's also the only other potential General you get in the game besides Oswin.  It's a shame because I really like his supports with Lyn.

3 hours ago, Saint Rubenio said:

The only really meaningful difference in the first split is Echidna vs Bartre and an energy ring. Echidna is the better unit, but the gap isn't quite as broad as between Geitz and Wallace.

I'm still in my first playthrough of Binding Blade, and went Bartre's Route because I wanted to see how he played.  I'm kind of surprised that Echidna is often viewed as the better of the two, is it because of Bartre's base Speed being not good?  Having Bows in a game where there's not bad to have coupled with his very good base Strength I found helpful.
