The reveal posts are a lot more quiet when IS isn't locking stuff behind a FEH Pass!  And people will eventually agree on something, given enough data points (this holds true for people who I disagree with on far more, uh, intense matters).

Or at the very least reach a middle ground.  We know that from experience, don't we?

In general, most are quieter than this one has been. Most of them don't have me arguing in them.

I don't really notice you arguing.  You can be chatty, but you're still productive on these topics and contribute plenty of meaningful stuff to the conversation.

So much for a quiet lunch.

Lol.  To be fair, when are these reveal posts ever quiet?

Corrin - Yato and its forms are part of the story of Fates.  Staves are cool but otherwise not.  Hence why I want Yato.  Though having a staff Corrin sometime in the future would be nifty IMO.

Oh hey, we agree (or half agree) on something.  Seriously thought that would never happen.

  3. I still view Alm as a better character then Celica, and think he gets a lot more hate then he deserves.

Sure, I can see the criticism of Alm being "too perfect" even though I don't fully agree with it.  I personally view him as someone whose very mindful of his position and not taking it for granted (outside of wanting to help Delthea and Celica), and most of the "too perfect" mindset comes more from how the characters who interact with him talk to him and not because of what Alm does or how he handles things, so it's not something that he should be blamed for (it's a lot like how people hate Kris from FE12).  The people who don't like him reminds me of those who would scold others for simply doing as they're told.

The thing that'll always put Celica beneath him in my eyes is the fact that she willingly went along with Jedah's idea.  Even though I understand she was just trying to watch out for everyone else, putting her faith in Jedah was still an idiotic (and fatal) thing for her to do, and I was glad that Saber got so angry at her when he was trying to figure out what was going on.

A public discussion forum is still public, with people who all have different ways of reacting to the same news. I'm not saying you can't share your opinion, I'm saying you need to be mindful of how you present your opinion in regards to the topic. Because otherwise you are coloring their reactions and opinions with your own before they even have a chance to know what the topic is. The first post can have all the related info in it, THEN you can make a whole new post about how IntSys can suck on pennies or whatever.

He was being mindful about the rule against double posting, plus it makes sense for him to lead with his own opinion after posting the topic as he was the one who created it.  You're pretty much telling him to either wait for someone else to give their opinion before he can give his own, or make a whole separate topic after the fact which makes no sense.  If you want to continue this, then PM me.  Otherwise know that I think your logic is flawed.

I'm sorry what? The solution to a problem I observe is not to shove everyone out of the way to do it instead.

Calling him out is no better, if not worse then making another out of spite.

Mordecai is great as a Smite bot. He stays on my roster for longer than Lethe because of that, since he's very good at it even while untransformed. Once you get the Demi band, it's even better. But as a combat unit, his low Spd makes his damage output really bad.

The others, I honestly just never use at all. Well, Janaff to talk to Naesala that one map (and maybe bait him in beforehand, while carrying the Full Guard). But I'm not sure if I've ever even just fielded Ulki.

Mordecai became extremely bulky once I got the double Water support going with Ulki (+3 damage dealt, -3 damage received at A, and they support decently quick).  His high base Defense and HP made him nearly unkillable on the physical side, but I still had to be mindful of magic and his slow gauge.  As for the Demi band, I had it on either Ranulf or Muarim.

I actually really like the notion of Staff Corrin. Especially since it'd be an opportunity to use all those festival staff whatchamacallits Fates has (wow, my spell checker can't detect British spellings, but it has no problem with whatchamacallits!?). Though given the track record, if they did give us a staff Corrin, they'd probably ignore all the Hoshidon stuff in the actual game and give them a made up staff. Bifrost if we're lucky, but have they even given us a single S ranked weapon from Fates? Probably someone somewhere, but the S ranked Fates weapons are getting bizarrely scorned, while the Fates cast have not, leaving very few people behind to actually use the Fates weapons.

I forgot that they're called Rods for Hoshido, and they'd likely make one up (which I'm not against them doing).  I don't think they used any of the S rank weapons in Fates, and we're definitely not getting the Conquest ones seeing how Percy and Ignatius are the only (playable) Conquest units left (who aren't neutral) who aren't in Heroes.  Maybe if Hans made it as a GHB unit then we could at least get the Axe?

I’d prefer he get the Omega Yato (or at least the endgame Yato from Birthright) on the basis that there are still no Yato variants in Heroes despite it having seven variants across the three routes of Fates.

We’ve also gotten enough dragon Corrins.

Trust me, I don't want him to have a Dragonstone either.  You're thinking of the Blazing Yato from the end of Birthright.

...I'm sorry, but the entirely wrong person made this thread. I do not feel like you should let personal feelings be the first thing others see when opening a thread like this, especially blatantly negative ones. Leave them out, or at the very least put them BELOW the video.

Then maybe you should've been quicker on the draw.  Not everyone is going to be neutral towards this, and judging from the tone of your response, you're not neutral either.

Wow that's almost impressively boring. Not just a character that's already been a legendary before, but in the same outfit too.

At least they managed to make M!Byleth's Enlightened One outfit look good, which is an accomplishment and his expressions also give off a better sense of authority which is appropriate for the his role.  F!Byleth's Enlightened One outfit still looks too ridiculous to be good (her exposed midriff doesn't compliment the outfit at all).

M!Robin has the best chance to be different from F!Robin (seriously, how hasn't either of them gotten a non Grima alt since the 1st year if we don't count Resplendent M!Robin as an alt?).  While with M!Corrin, it depends on if they give him a Sword instead of a Dragonstone.  They could even give him a Staff if they do go the Hoshido Noble route.

Even if he were good he'd be competing for a new deployment slot with the underwhelming but okay Lucia, the probably-better-than-Astrid Geoffrey and the man-I-wish-she-came-sooner Elincia. I don't think people view him as bad because basically no one ever uses him to experience his theoretical suck.

I'd use Bastion over Lucia, but Geoffrey over both of them (except for the boulder map, which hits cavalry with a massive movement penalty).  You forgot Largo who also joins immediately after the 3 retainers.

  9. I know it's a small thing, but it's odd that the Three Houses (Golden Deer, Blue Lions, Black Eagles) aren't options for "I fight for".  Did no one ever get to it, or was it decided against?

Edit: While I'm at it, it's also odd that the member icon options for Three Houses are limited to just Part 1 Claude, Dimitri, and Edelgard.  No Rhea, Sothis, Byleth (either gender), Yuri, or the house leader's Part 2 appearances.

I'm firmly of the belief that the less the player has to worry about shit that has not yet happened and may not ever happen, the better. everything the game throws at you should give you, bare minimum, a full turn to at best counter it or at worst make the decision of who's dying come enemy phase. Ambush spawns set an uncomfortable precedent that punishes people who aren't paranoid and don't turtle past every false positive they see.

The other big objection to ambush spawns is that even if they did have positives, said positives only truly work once, on your first blind playthrough. They have precious little staying power and largely just kill the fun of blind runs, because they depend on the element of surprise to do what they do.

I second this.  I've never liked ambush spawns, and Awakening is the big reason for it.

Don't forget about Zelot, who only placed higher in CYL5 (486th) than one other character that's currently in FEH (Luke, 492nd).

I wasn't thinking of Zelot (he's apparently somewhere in his 30's according to the this site's Character Ages page.  While not old, that's is still above the average age of playable characters), and the tempest trials he was in was alongside a wedding banner that had his wife Juno in, so him joining there made sense.

Being unpopular and/or an old man doesn't mean a character is off the table, just that IS considers them a lower priority. Considering 3H's popularity, I expect some or all of them to get added eventually, but not necessarily soon or on New Heroes banners.

Maybe, and I agree that it wouldn't be anytime soon.  What you said before about IS adding War Phase students seems more likely, especially with who's in Alt hell at the moment (Dorothea, Felix, and maybe Ashe and Leonie).

Edit:  It'd be foolish of me to not give you credit about there being surprise additions of old men like Dozla and FE6 Merlinus.

  13. Another console that I don't hear much about in terms of music, so I'll ask:

Which Nintendo 64 Soundtracks are your favorites?  I'll always have a place in my heart for Mario Kart 64's soundtrack, as it was what got me into video games.  Some others are Mario Parties 1 and 3, Super Smash Bros, Banjo Kazooie, and Kirby 64.

And these are also all solid picks. Ignatz seemed likely to get introduced through a seasonal and he'd been an odd one out for a while, while Manuela was another notable 3H omission and arguably the only other big Academy omission

Manuela isn't that popular though, right?  Only thing she had going for her was that she was the only playable woman from Three Houses who wasn't in yet, and the same can be said for Ignatz being the last student, cause he's not popular either.  So I wouldn't say that these two were solid picks, they feel more like obligations.

  15. Ignatz joining means all of Three Houses's students are in Heroes, and Manuela joining means all of Three Houses's (playable) women are in Heroes.  The only playable characters from Three Houses remaining who aren't yet in Heroes are Hanneman, Alois, Gilbert, and Cyril.  I think it's safe to say that none of them are getting in (aside from some of them being part of Gatekeeper's attack animation), as none of them are largely popular, and 3 of them are older men.

  16. The bad:  Ash is another free female OC.  Elm's design (I never liked the "feminine looking male" character design).  Guess they wanted to make up for Nott and Dagr (I never liked muscular women visually either.  They tend to look tacky).

The Ugly: They brought the cow fetish to FEH.  Fetish artists are going to have a field day.

Edit: Just remembered that Camilla hasn't gotten a resplendent yet.  They're not going to make "Cowmilla" an actual thing, will they?  I pray not.

The Good:  Priam, Basillio, and Flavia are in the game.  Priam in particular was the only character left from Awakening I really wanted.

Edit: Shame on me, I forgot Gregor.  He also would've been great to have.

  17. I know that Mario Parties 6 and 7 are both later GameCube games so maybe not many people played them, but seeing them take the bottom two spots is surprising (6 is my favorite Mario Party).  What's more surprising is how high MP 10 is.  Thought more people hated that game (it's one of the only Mario games I've played that I'd call bad).

Crazy idea, but what if they'd gone for a full HD remake compilation? Like, the entirety of Mario Party 1, 2, and 3, redone with updated graphics, tweaked boards and mechanics, and maybe extra playable characters?

Aside from it being a full compilation, that's what Superstars is.  Updated graphics, tweaked boards, and while there's only 2 of them (4 if you want to be technical about Daisy and Waluigi not being in Mario Parties 1 and 2) there are extra characters.

I don't see Orbs as a big problem, at least re: Mario Party 7. Most Orbs could just be replaced by an equivalent item, and we'd be no worse off.

Some of the effects of the Capsules you throw in 7 can be devastating.  Like a Piranha Plant stealing half of any opponent's coins, then gives them to whoever used it.  Force someone to lose all their Capsules (or items in this case) with Mr. Blizzard, or a Tweester that randomly warps an opponent.  Spear Guy taking between 5 to 30 coins based on what his victim rolls, the gives then to who used him, could go on for a bit.

They could at least have picked the best half of each game to make 10. Or included some boards from the other games, too. I'd have suggested one choice board from each game in the series plus a Bowser Board, a "Best of" collection. Although, I haven't played any entry past 7 myself, so I can't really speak as to what the best boards from 8, 9, 10, and Super would be. Still, after looking up the boards on Mario Wiki, this is the list I'd suggest:

    • Mario Party: Peach's Birthday Cake
    • Mario Party 2: Western Land
    • Mario Party 3: Waluigi's Island
    • Mario Party 4: Koopa's Seaside Soiree
    • Mario Party 5: Sweet Dream
    • Mario Party 6: Snowflake Lake
    • Mario Party 7: Grand Canal
    • Mario Party 8: DK's Treetop Temple
    • Mario Party 9: Toad Road
    • Mario Party 10: Whimsical Waters
    • Super Mario Party: Whomp's Domino Ruins
    • Bowser: Bowser Land

And to be fair, 5-6 boards is the norm for this series, but given that Superstars is supposed to be a celebration of sorts, I figure it'd have been proper to feature more than the usual number of boards.

The problem with adding boards outside of the N64 era is that they play by their own core system, between the board design of 4 using the Mini/Mega system, the Capsule system of 5, 6, and 7 (not to mention that 5 uses a different Capsule system then 6 and 7 did), the Candy system of 8, and the "Everyone travels together" system of 9 and 10.  Out of all of those, 4 and 8 would be the easiest to implement, but they would feel out of place.

Super does have the edge in Single player content, and a pretty lush cast of characters, but those were the only high points I could think of at the time. I also enjoyed the cooperative mode more than the main party mode. But the main party mode feels like an afterthought. Heck, coming straight off of that 3DS game, the top 100, I think it's fair to bet that it literally was an afterthought. The boards had very little going on, and the coin economy quickly devolves to people repeatedly visiting the shop for the Golden Pipe (10 coins!) rather than taking their chances in trying to reach the star. I also really disliked the lack of controller options. It wasn't totally apparent by the end of 2018, but joy con degredation was beginning to kick in. Super Mario Party could have used a "joy con-less" mode where everything that requires motion controls is shut off. But I also know that Nintendo would never put something in their game that acknowledges faulty hardware. 100% of Superstars can be played on any controller you want, and the game is much better for it.

Having watched footage of others playing Super, all your points here are fair.  I will say that as someone who played Star Rush on the 3DS and enjoyed it more then I thought I would, I'd probably like the games that involved allies joining you.

3 hours ago, Zapp Branniglenn said:

In the wake of Superstars, it's easy to see what Super Mario Party could have done better. Namely online play. Patching that in years after release is a slap in the face. You really never know which games Nintendo will decide to continue supporting with updates, and it's confusing that they would wait so long - particularly going to that effort while the next installment had already entered development. Superstars will no doubt be judged in retrospect on the quantity of its updates too. I haven't yet played enough of Superstars to really judge how I feel about it overall. Need more sessions with friends, and that's difficult in a pandemic.

It didn't help that Super got the online update mere weeks before Superstars was revealed.

Superstars will probably meet the same fate if it doesn't get content updates.  While I found it enjoyable to return to the OG formula and that the Minigame selection was (mostly) good, I found it's side content to be lacking, and the only unique aspect of Superstars is the fact that it pulls boards from multiple games, so it consequently doesn't stand out on it's own beyond that.  As it stands now, it's undercooked, but not to the extremes of The Top 100.
