  1. Given what Awakening has done to the Kagaverse lore, what Fates has done to Awakening's lore, and my general reaction to multiverse shenanigans being bile rising in my throat, I'd rather they just leave the old games out of their crazy timey wimey escapades. Newer installments already have trouble enough justifying their own world building and lore without trying to take on the rules of other settings as well.

I like Tellius. I like Archanea. Should they be interconnected? Only if you want to justify Fomortiis, Gaiden's magic system, and how Anankos fits into it all.

Him supposedly influencing the polls is such a stupid thing to throw a fit about. Especially when Dorcas is on there. Fucking Dorcas, who has his place on the poll because of a MEME. HE IS A JOKE AND GOT ON THERE BECAUSE OF A JOKE. Seriously when was the last time any one of you looked at Dorcas and sincerely liked his character and thought you would vote for him in a popularity poll? When? But because everyone finds that funny, that is completely fine. It's hypocracy at its finest.

The support between him and Geitz isn't half bad. He's got a good motivation and decent contrasting characters in most of the his supports. I'm not knocking your claim about him being a meme (because he is) and that being the reason he's placed high (because it probably factors heavily toward his placing), but maybe you shouldn't lash out like that since it makes you come across as unreasonable as the people you're mad at.

As to your question of the last time I looked at Dorcas' supports and character, the first week of this month.

  3. Voted for Lute.

I hope they release the entire placement results for all 780 or so characters after the poll has concluded. I'd really like to see where everyone stands with one another (though I expect NPCs, bosses, and Gaiden characters will likely be the bottom 80).

You know, I'm starting to find many of the knee-jerk reactions to the mention of an Avatar kind of...worrying at this point. I don't want to be a jerk about this, because obviously everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but why? Why is the sentiment "I don't want an Avatar" rather than "I don't want an Avatar done poorly"? Is it because people don't trust IntSys to do it right or do people inherently hate the idea of a customisable character? I honestly fail to see what's inherently wrong with the Avatar as a concept. If people don't like self-inserts, then they can use their imaginations to come up with their own character who isn't a self-insert, or just use the default settings.

It's not that Avatars are necessarily a symbol of evil or anything of the sort. For me personally, I have absolutely no interest in customizable characters and it's clear that a number of features that I despise in the current system (glorification of the player, trying to stretch out 50-70 supports with a single character, skinshipping and confession images) are tied to the Avatar character and the game's inability to decide if it's "you" that's in the game or "Kris/Robin/Corrin." It's not that I feel that IntSys can't be trusted to "do it right", but rather that "doing it right" is for me impossible due to my general disinterest in Avatars (but I also don't trust them to do it right). They could (in my eyes) maybe salvage it by pulling out a stellar system of choices that carry heavy, heavy consequences and potential route splits, but at the same time I'd rather those decisions be made under the name of a character with a set name, set design, and set personality tied to the world that they live in rather than someone I can decorate.

-Monsters. I think there were monsters in Gaiden, and I'd like to see them again. I mean, Awakening had the Risen, and Fates had the Faceless, but I'd love to see stuff like in Sacred Stones again.

Gaiden is the game that introduced monsters to Fire Emblem, includings mogalls, gargoyles, and draco zombies. Seeing as a draco zombie appeared in the Direct, I think it's a fairly safe bet that monsters are returning.

He was brought on during Awakening's development; previously, I believe Senri Kata did both the art and direction. As for how much of a departure... well, Higuchi (the producer who's been with IS for a while), had this reaction to the art:

"...the changes were like never before, so I actually held my head, plopped down, and was like, 'Are you sure we want to put that in?!'"

In Radiant Dawn's credits, Sachiko Wada is credited as the art director, if that's worth anything.

  7. I fear a few things:

-Avatars and children. I strongly dislike these features and wish that they were not present in other FE titles. To see them in Gaiden would hurt me a bit.

-Retcons or particularly poor writing. If I wanted to play a game that horribly retcons heavy portions of its world, I'd play Awakening.

This game has the potential to be a great way to introduce Gaiden to the modern age of gaming. I remain cautiously optimistic.

If we get stuff as good as this, I'm happy:

Basically, I'm down for just about anything done right.

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I'm totally down for this.

  9. I'd be up for some metal/rock remixes of tracks from Fates' OST. One of my biggest grievances with that score is the somewhat misguided sense of orchestration in a number of the tracks, which would be mitigated in a metal band.

i've also had that selective screening process happen to me too, but my parents luckily keep their documents organized. it doesnt pay for all my in state tuition though, but im mostly paying for housing and all.

If that were all it was it'd be bad enough. But the IRS have lost our tax forms, the financial aid offices have given us misinformation, and even just left our paperwork sitting around and lost it because they didn't put it in a spot that they'd remember to find it. Some variation or mix of this has happened over and over again for years, each year becoming worse and more stressful as each screening somehow brings in new paperwork. As a result, I've built up a powerful resentment for the collegiate system as I've met people face-to-face who get much of that money without a hassle (bragging that they spent it on a trip to Hawaii) or who were literally breaking the law but still got enough to cover themselves.

     what^

    its free money

just get your parents tax forms and all. if you're poor enough you get aid

how could putting tax forms information online to get free money be "stressful"

We were actually on the end of the spectrum where they don't believe your parents make what little they make due to my dad's abnormal tax forms and disgustingly pitiful income. When that happens, they sometimes pull you aside for "selective screening", which involves dozens of forms of paperwork and bickering with financial aid representatives. All for a paltry sum of money that won't even pay for every term of tuition in an in-state university. This happened multiple years in a row, with one year having my financial aid delayed until May of that school year. I also know people on the opposite end, where their EFC is too high and basically leaves them screwed when their parents refuse to aid them with funding.

Do not underestimate the collegiate system's ability to find any little thing to hold you back.

  12. I prefer to to take each continent's lore and separate it from the lore of other continents (with the except of everything pre-Elibe, as the Kagaverse is all connected in various ways). I'm personally not a fan of trying mash all the lore of each continent into one continuous set of world building, mostly because even FE 1-5 has strange continuity errors before you even throw in games like Awakening that supposedly take place in the same setting.

As for wyverns, only the Archanean games actually bother to provide an explanation for why they exist (being a degenerated dragon tribe), though I don't think Jugdral provides an explanation that I'm aware of despite being in the same continuity.

Doesn't seem to be possible to remove your vote anymore, which is faintly ironic because I was going to vote for the new poll option made for people like me who relatively quickly accepted their new circumstances and found a few of the upgrades (latest posts/IPC overhaul/the new profiles).

I guess voting is just higher stakes than it used to be. Don't let it go to waste!

  14. Doing some research, I've just noticed that the Seal we see in the trailer matches neither the one from Marth or Chrom's eras, so it may be a version exclusive to the game, especially considering the design of the shield.

In terms of lords, I'm pretty optimistic. Awakening's Einherjar and the amount of continuity fanservice in Hyrule Warriors sets a pretty good precedent here. While I doubt they'll put characters like Seliph in, I can definitely see Sigurd and Alm happening.

It is clearly a different design, but all prior versions of the shield have continuity on which spheres are placed where. Non-continuity Shield of Shields lookalikes aren't exactly on my list of things I want to see in the game. I'd rather them come up with an original storyline with an original Fire Emblem much like how each FE continent reinterprets what the "Fire Emblem" actually is.

I'm sure that a number of lords will get DLC packs (and believe me, smashing things as Hector would be one heck of a time), but I'd be more interested in playing characters besides the lords from older titles. However, I find that unlikely to happen. The lords from each game getting represented (half of them likely post-release DLC), a few villains from the newer games, a few original characters, and a few popular characters from Awakening and Fates would put the roster above 20 characters, close to 30, which is near the roster total of Hyrule Warriors Legends. I don't see anything more than that as feasible until they end up doing a Fire Emblem Warriors 2. If they end up proving me wrong, then hey, cool! But until they do I won't expect it.

  15. I mean, the fact that the Shield of Seals doesn't even have the Geosphere and that the spheres are misplaced in the Fire Emblem is more telling than anything.

Going to remain cautious overall until more footage is shown. Not expecting even a touch of love for older titles outside of lords just to avoid the disappointment.
