  1. Hey peeps. Was wondering what you guys consider the best father for these children, or whatever you personally went with. I used Libra!Owain which made for a great magic based Owain who decimated with Levin Swords. Chrom!Inigo got pretty good stats, Ricken!Brady was a solid Sage/Healer, and for some reason I did Gregor!Laurent though I don't remember why. I do remember him being one of my best units alongside Owain though. Just wondering what you guys paired up with your versions of these characters.
  2. Wow. Thanks for the concise information. I have no idea why IS didn't make Karel a red unit and give him HHM bonuses, but I suppose even with them he wouldn't be able to outdo all the advantages Harken's got over him.
  3. I guess what I meant was if Karel had any advantages over Harken that made him worth taking up a character slot (besides maybe the Wo Dao). If he has any redeeming characteristics, I suppose, to warrant deployment. Oh, also, how does Karel compare in terms of stats to a Guy at that point in the game? Sorry I know what I'm asking is sort of ambiguous. I just sort of wanted to know what his deal is in terms of usefulness cause I kind of wanted to try him out to shake things up a bit.
  4. Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before somewhere. It's been a while since I've played FE7 HHM but I always go with Harken. However, I'm wondering out of curiosity if Karel is viable at all, assuming Harken just wasn't in the game and Karel was the only one you could recruit. For those of you who are good at HHM, what do you think? His base ATK is decent but even with Lancereavers he has a hard time doing significant damage to Wyvern Knights/Lords and stuff you fight around that point in the game. He doesn't even get HHM bonuses, which is really unfortunate. Anyway I'm thinking about maybe trying him out but I just wanted to hear some of your guys' opinions first.
  5. Oswin tends to do rather well for me actually, but the difference here is his availability and room to grow I think. That and he's extremely effective at protecting Merlinus. Well thanks for the input guys!
  6. Hey all. Many apologies if this has been asked somewhere before. I'm going through FE9 one more time since it's been a while on Hard. This time though I want to use characters I haven't really used before. I was looking at Tauroneo and from what I see he seems to have pretty decent bases (even RES!), A rank in both Swords and Lances, and Resolve. I know he's at level 14 and is in a game primarily dominated by mounted units, but he's so low on the tier. Does he really suck that bad? Also, have any of you guys had any good experiences from Largo in Hard Mode? He has no defence. At all. And he's the last unit to join your party from what I remember. Doesn't seem like he can contribute too much, but I do like his personality and strength! Thanks for the input everyone.
  7. Aight guys thanks for the help. I think I understand all of this much better now, so now I have an idea of how I'm gonna approach this game. I'm sure playing on Lunatic mode eventually will be a true challenge. And I don't even want to think about Lunatic+
  8. Oh huh. So does that mean, even if you reclass a bunch of times, your stats end up evening out similarly to someone who didn't reclass at all?
  9. This just makes me think of how eventually efficiency runs will be for this game. I don't know about a tier list since it seems trivialized in this game, but efficiency or LTC players probably won't have the ability to reclass a bunch of times. Probably won't use the children either. Yeah that's what ended up happening to my earlier run, Slick. People were taking no damage and hitting back ridiculous numbers.
  10. Yeah that's what I was trying to say. If you reclass at 10, you gain the skills, but their stats end up evening out once you finally do promote right? Similar to how they would be if you just trained them to 20 anyway and promoted without reclassing, I think. So it's not like reclassing 5 times will make them into superpowerhouses, aside from the 10 or so skills they would have accumulated. Unless you promoted, then reclassed everytime or something.
  11. Yeah that's what i've been hearing as well. I think the only "problem" I have with reclass is the fact that it seems like if you reclass after you've already promoted you get the benefit of promotion gains too, from what I can tell, which makes them super powerful. So I guess the way to counter that is to raise somebody to 10, reclass, then promote them whenever, or just reclass again. Their stats will be like as if you never reclassed at all, but you have the benefit of the skills and the new class. I hope I'm getting that right. EDIT: when i say problem it doesn't really bother me. It just seemed that characters post promotion after reclass just retain a bit of their stat boosts. Unpromoted characters when reclassed don't have those boosts, so it's a bit less wonky. Then again it's been 2 months since i've played so maybe i'm remembering things wrong
  12. Oh cool thanks for the responses. When I played before I just went crazy grinding and class changing, it killed the fun for me. On a harder difficulty like Lunatic, I'm sure I'll get more of a streamlined experience in line with what I'm used to from other FE's. This game takes all the best elements from all of them, but in my opinion it's pretty different as well. Just takes a little getting used to, I suppose.
  13. Well I know that oДo I didn't mean to imply that there was one strict way to play, but I just wanted to know how you guys go about with the reclass system. Do you just level your guys up to 10 in skirmishes, then reclass and repeat ad infinitum? I know skirmishes scale by location, but it made story missions way too easy. Felt like I was doing something wrong. Then again people seem to be saying this is the easiest FE of them all or something, so maybe it's just me
  14. Hey guys. Got FE13 on launch, and I was able to play about halfway through on Hard. Then my idiot brother lost my 3DS (thankfully my game card wasn't inside it at the time), and roughly 2 months later I finally found it again! But it's been so long, I'm gonna go ahead and restart my game. Sorry if these questions have been posted elsewhere. The thing I wanted to ask, now that everyone's had a few months to dig into this game, is what's the proper way of going through this game? I've played all the other FE's, but this one seems to put heavy emphasis on grinding as well as class changing. These elements weren't really there before, and so I was pretty comfortable and used to the idea of say, my Thief becoming an Assassin and that's the end of that. But nowadays I read topics all the time of people saying, "reclass your Gaius into myrmidon for vantage, then x, then y, then back to Assassin for final". When I played, I stuck everyone on one class and didn't really use change seals. I was afraid that levelling everyone up to 10 all the time to reclass was making them too powerful. It was making Hard Mode easy. But isn't that what's going to happen if you reclass a few times with a character in order to get the good skills? Anyway, after years of avoiding arenas and towers and stuff, I feel kinda weird grinding up these characters and changing their classes, but since this is the way the game is supposed to be played, what am I doing wrong? How do I approach? Yeah sorry for the ambiguous questions. I'm not uneasy, I just want to know how a proper FE vet from SF would approach this game. How would/do you guys level up your characters and reclass and stuff? Thank's so much in advance. I'm looking forward to getting some quality input.
  15. It's important to understand that in a game like Awakening, what's canon or not is a line that's extremely blurry. In games like this or Mass Effect, where the player is allowed to make their own choices and have their own impact on the game, can we really say which choice is canon and which isn't? As far as "which pairing makes the story better" is a completely subjective argument. You may feel Sumia makes the game better, but I may feel that Sully is actually the best pairing for Chrom. Even if IS favors one character over another for marriage, the open ended nature of this question means that even their predilection toward a certain character doesn't guarantee that character being the "one true pairing". Reason is, the developers will inherently favor one character over another. Hell, Sumia may even be a call back to Caeda considering their similar classes and crushing on the main lord. So in conclusion, in Awakening there simply don't exist true pairings, in my opinion, because these characters are for the most part written pretty well. There aren't any huge plot holes or inconsistencies to create weakly characterized characters, and thusly the matter of who Chrom's real wife should be is completely dependent on the player. Another factor to consider is the child that is produced by this pairing. Having said all that, I paired up Chrom with Maribelle because I found the idea of the cowardly delinquent Brady inheriting the kingdom unbelievably hilarious. That and I figure Chrom passes down some neat growth rates and skills, and the conversations between him and Brady would be interesting given both of their natures. Look on My Words, Ye Mighty, and Despair!
