  1. My guess for that scene is that it was primarily shot in order to have a fancy action scene to be put into trailers, with little regard on how it could fit into the story. Kinda like that Chrom vs Masked Marth cutscene. I did get a similar impression with other scenes too, like when Celica dramatically rushes up the stairs of Sofia castle as if she was in some life or death situation. She even desperately reaches forward during that scene, which doesn't even begin to make sense in the context that the scene actually appears in the game.
  2. The best method to get silver pieces that I am aware of is to do the Ethereal Fishing Line quest in Zofia Harbor. Once you do that, the Skilled Angler in the tavern will supply you with an infinite supply of Dagon Filet that can be sold for 8 silver the piece. In order to get the Angler to reappear, all you got to do is to walk 4 tiles away. Once you get back, he will be back in the tavern to give you another Dagon Filet. Even so, getting gold pieces with that method will take a while. The conversion rate is absolutely awful.
  3. At which rate would you get gold coins in the grinding DLC? I am currently trying to get cash using the Dagon Filet method. And while I earn infinitely more silver coins then any other method I can think of, at a conversion rate of 500 to 1 getting Gold Coins that way would still be one hell of a slog.
  4. Alright, thanks. I guess that means he probably doesn't have one. At least I think you would have remembered if he did have a Silver Shield, seeing how it makes him hard to kill with physical attacks while magical attacks don't work well because mages can't cast without HP. This guy was such a pain that I started to try luring Duma away from his range.
  5. Sounds to me like this map is quite a bit different on Normal compared to Hard. If you don't mind me asking, does the guy with Medusa and a Silver Shield exist on Normal? And does Duma move in that mode?
  6. I always liked Gaiden's mechanics a lot, although I never managed to finish it. After finishing Echoes I feel confident in saying that this is only because of the NES era clunkyness, and that the game was indeed really well put together otherwise. Later Fire Emblem games would take a lot from Gaiden but they were always really half-assed about it. Like, Sacred Stones is just Binding Blade with a world map tagged on. There isn't really a purpose for it other then having pointless random encounters. So I am really happy that this remake ended up staying true to what Gaiden was about, that they avoided adding mechanics that simply don't belong there and instead added entirely new elements that actually fit well with Gaiden's design, like the dungeon crawling and the side quests. So yeah, I would definitely like to see more games like this. Edit: Well, I don't quite feel like I am yet capable to judge whetter the story is good or bad. But what I do know is that in Echoes I don't find myself hating the protagonists with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Which means that by default I consider the game's story to be far superior to Awakening or Fates. The supposed heroes of those two games were such a special kind of awful that I still find it hard to comprehend that they weren't actually intended to be utterly loathsome.
  7. Is there a way to tell how close you are towards hitting the capacity limit of your item storage? Previous games always showed you how big your item storage is and how much of it is occupied but I can't see anything like this here.
  8. After looking at their bases and growths, I still decided to go with the classics and so far they did not disappoint. So that means: Gray - Mercenary Robin - Archer Kliff - Mage As for Faye, both of her unique options seem to be the way to go. A second Cleric is very helpful and she also learns Physic early to heal from outside the enemy's arrow range. Similar with Pegasus Knight where Faye is only competing with Claire, who is both frail and weak. And of course you can never have enough fliers. I ultimately choose Pegasus Knight and ended up being very much happy with that choice. Faye ended up performing feats that Claire could never have dreamed of.
  9. Does the Devil Axe have a purpose other then being sold for cash? Besides that one sidequest were you can hand over any axe.
  10. Eyvel can't die but she can get captured. So she absolutely can't afford to be reckless. But you need higher con in order to capture someone. Which means that Marita can't possibly take out Eyvel. So the best way to deal with this is to get Eyvel and Nanna to the door. Because there you can only get attacked by one opponent at the time. If that opponent is Marita, Eyvel is perfectly save as Marita can't kill her and Eyvel won't counterattack. Nanna may get attacked over the walls by mages but thanks to her Res and Earth Sword, she can hold her own for a while.
  11. So far it's absolutely fantastic. Outside the actual maps that is. Pretty sure they weren't changed much from Gaiden. That's a huge problem to be sure but as long as I find myself capable of caring about the characters and their journey, I'm all good. And this is something that the game really nails. The story has been beautifully expanded and the dialog and voice acting is great. Their is a lot of focus about how the people are affected by the war and the responsibility our heroes have to them. People actually act like human beings and care about their surroundings. Admittedly Awakening set the bar so low in that regard that you need a shovel to reach it but at this rate the game may well surpass any previous games when it comes to this. It's so much better then what I dared to imagine. The dungeon crawling is a nice addition to Gaiden and I'm quite surprised just how well that third-person stuff controls. Like, you actually have a dash and a 3-hit combo. I figured it would be a lot more barebone then that. But they really made sure that it feels good. And that's kind of the thing: Everything about the game just feels good. It looks beautifully, it controls well, battle animations are fantastic, the voice acting is great, the characters don't make me want to punch them... the game is just pure joy so far. The only thing so far that has been truly annoying was keeping Leon alive. Guy was always dead on turn no matter what I did. I'm sure it's no problem on Normal Mode though.
  12. In return the lv10 Myrmidon would probably die in two shots though, so this goes both ways. This has nothing to do with the weapon triangle but with sending a low accuracy unit against a high avoid target or a low durability unit against a high power target. What the Polygon review does show is that as little as the weapon triangle might matter in terms of mechanics, some people seem to rely on systems like the weapon triangle to give them directions because they don't understand what the actual numbers mean or simply don't bother with them. At least that's the conclusion I draw from this genuinely fascinating passage. (The context of that passage is how less refined the mechanics of the game are compared to the other moderns games and occurs right after lamenting the lack of the weapon triangle and how the reviewer now doesn't know what units are effective against who. That entire part is worth reading but I didn't want to quote like half the review. So here is the link if you want to take a look at the context yourself. https://www.polygon.com/2017/5/18/15654094/fire-emblem-echoes-shadows-of-valentia-review) I mean, what could be more "reliable" then the stats? The weapon triangle just means that the formula to translate these numbers to actual combat parameters is more complicated but that doesn't change that it's ultimately these numbers that define how a battle will turn out. In this game it's actually easier to predict how a battle goes because there are less factors at play that define those numbers. 10 attack actually means 10 attack and not 8-12 depending on the opponent's weapon. Unless... well, you don't actually pay attention to those numbers at all and never learned just how little the weapon triangle contributed to a battle's outcome. Maybe that does explain why so many people lament the absence of the magic triangle of all things.
  13. The campaign in Dual Strike is also designed in a way that really emphasizes the flaws of the game's mechanics. You are usually given control over no less then 3 different forces all with their own Co gauge, while your opponent has 1 large army. Due to the way Co powers work, this essentially means that your opponent charges their gauge 3 times as fast as you. Combine that with the fact that the gauge also charges twice as fast when taking damage and it results in a campaign that while being very easy, just ends up being frustrating as the AI keeps delaying it's inevitable demise by taking double turns in addition to other annoying Co Power effects.
  14. You were actually right. Stefan is indeed different in the American version. Because Swordmasters get +15 critical in the international release, so he is actually even better there. And yeah, Thieves get a huge boost on their probability to find hidden items but there is no guarantee. And you can cycle through your units with the X button on the Gamecube controller. On a related note, there is also a soft-reset feature by holding Start + X + B. It took you a while to notice the Laguz Stones. There are tons of them on this map. Seems like just about everyone who does not transform at the first turn carries one. They are single-use, so it's rather tricky to get them. Unfortunately I do not know how close you can get for them without triggering them using it. But I did notice that those Laguz get triggered by units even beyond their movement range, so I ended up getting most of my stones by waiting until they would transform naturally. I love how the game keeps to immediately address the questions you are pondering. I also love the Sigrun info conversations here. It is a great blend of tutorial, character development and world building.
  15. How does moving around on the World Map work now? In the original Gaiden, enemy armies could move while you were moving, which would probably cause issues if you could move several ties at once like in Sacred Stones or could easily run all over the place like in Awakening. Now to mention the issue of controlling two armies at once.
  16. I suppose a very good example to illustrate this would be how in the manga of Naruto Shikamaru did do a smoke in memory of his mentor while in the Anime he was not allowed to do that. Which just so happened to occur after he cut of an immortal guy's head and buried it alive. Every country seems to have weird priorities when it comes to these things.
  17. Considering all that Wars World stuff in your signature, doesn't that mean you have played at least one of the GBA games or Dual Strike already? Anyway, I would say that with Dark Conflict and Black Hole Rising being so massively different in tone, it really depends on the person in question for what they prefer. They are both good games to be sure. I would be a lot more careful to recommend AW1 and I'd definitely not recommend Dual Strike. But in terms of mechanics I prefer Dark Conflict because you have to actually work to increase your Co gauge, so it doesn't really have that annoying rubber band thing with the Co Powers that tends to unnecessarily drag out maps.
  18. Btw, Gamexplain's review shows them picking up alcoholic drinks but I thought they couldn't be used in any version of the game. So why would you still be able to find those items? Do they have another purpose?
  19. The translation we have of Gaiden's ending does sound to me like that. https://serenesforest.net/gaiden/scripts/script-translation/ending/ Jenny Though no one could have possibly dreamed of it happening, it’s said that she fell in love with one of her companions. Who in the world could that person be? Her only answer is a smile. Saber * (If Jesse is alive) He joined the establishment of Jesse’s kingdom. Meanwhile, he gets to cuddle with a lovely wife. * (If Jesse is dead) Together with his lovely wife, he works towards the restoration of the Kingdom of Valencia. There was another implied romances like that. In Thracia, Olwen's ending mentions she married an "surprisingly ordinary man" while Fred's ending mentions having married a younger women who was his commander. Not to mention all that stuff with the Beo Sword. So unless they have stronger candidates for each other, I would assume that this is intended to give people the idea that Jenny and Saber got together.
  20. I don't think Meteor is worth keeping. It is an A-Rank tome after all and weapon ranks grow very slowly in this game.
  21. Not to mention all those blue Laguz Stones that enemies carry in that chapter (I wonder if that's specifically a Maniac Mode thing or just a general JPN version thing). In my case I decided to just ignore the BEXP and tried to snatch as many of them as possible.
  22. I usually don't bother trying to deliberately raise a Mage's weapon level because progressing from E is incredibly slow, so they don't have much of a chance to get above D before promotion anyway. And since promotion raises all the magic schools to D (and only up to D) anyway, I really don't think that it's worth it.
  23. Seth's growths are actually quite a bit better then those of the other Cavaliers. So yeah, as has been stated, Seth on lv. 20 is pretty much equal to the other Cavaliers on 20/20.
  24. I'm not a fan of the people who designed her.

  25. Well, it's a bit difficult to tell through text. The caps didn't really help.
