  1. Of course the only reason the Gatekeeper was even noteworthy is because he is an NPC. A rare sign that modern Fire Emblem features human life outside of the avatar and his small group of worshippers. Not exactly something that makes you stick out in Berwick Saga, where Navaron is populated with dozens of green guys. Not just your usual assortment of shopkeepers, furniture merchants and Erzheimers, but quite a few don't even offer any service, like those prison guards. Or the tavern owner. You can't buy any drinks from him, but people still always come by just to insult the place because they are charming like that.
  2. Eh, forget about 60$. That artwork isn't worth the storage space on my porn drive. It's so devoid of any expressions that I would call it about as sexy as sex ed illustrations, except those aren't so hideously deformed.
  3. I suppose there is no need for something to be straightforward when it could instead be really obscure and abstract instead. Abstract enough where the name could also work for either a fire sword or a light sword. It's like in the German translation for PoR, where Elfenlicht is a fire spell while Elfenblitz is a light spell. Also the Sonic Sword is the Donnerschwert for some reason. They are very much immobile. Like, actually immobile. Unlike the Berwick Saga ballista that technically can move, but have to chose between moving, attacking and turning. Can't do more then one at once. Levin is an actual name, so it makes perfect sense to give it to a person. Giving it to a weapon is much less self-explanatory, though. Like, not even a unique artifact but just a general weapon type. But I'm sure the literal meaning of the word is a factor in how Levin ended up with that name. Considering that whole "light inheritors" theme. Even used to be the name of the game at one point.
  4. Well, as long as we don't call it a Levin Sword. The heck is a "Levin" even supposed to be? Negative avoid is funny. After Thracia, standard long range is lowered to 3-7. Ballista in Vestaria Saga are 12 range. But they also have a minimum range of 8. So they still only cover a range of 4 tiles.
  5. I suppose that's to be expected given that she is apparently based on a subculture that the Big K wasn't particularly fond of.
  6. It's a good thing this game controls so much better than FE3. It's so fast and snappy. Just really fun to do stuff. I would say the arena is the biggest obstacle to replayability. It might not start out this way, but the arena takes longer the more units you have. It adds up after a while. That would mean that Eldigan is actively asking his sister to be a hostage for Grandvelle to be used against him. That's not something he would want to do. Their split really only makes sense is she is the one to insist on it.
  7. With the way the crusader bloodlines have been treated so far, it is a little surprising that the Hezul folks are just mere subordinates to an unrelated royal family. Oh sure. There is also a gossiper in Vestaria Saga who proposes that the reason Gyskhal backs Cyltan's claim for the throne is because he is the boy's real father due to a possible affair with his brother's bride-to-be. That theory becomes increasingly implausible over the course of the Solis arc. Though I suppose it is never outright disproven. I suppose unlike "I like it rough" the line "You ever see a little girl with THESE before!?" from the old patch wasn't considered to be quite iconic enough to be kept. Well, Chagall wouldn't be the "last survivor of the Agusty dynasty" if he didn't murder his dad. Just saying. Would really like to have a scene with Lachesis here. From her perspective it would most certainly make sense to put the whole mess firmly on Chagall's feet. And she would likely see little value in a definition of chivalry that puts blind loyalty to a patricidal moron running the country into the ground above all else. Her staying with Sigurd after all of this is most certainly not surprising. But considering Jamke is still around for no reason, it's impossible to consider this the result of a character arc unless it's actually shown.
  8. The boss with the lowest level on the map. Unless you count Fury. Meanwhile Zane over there being level 21 with 3 leadership stars. That reminds me... Alec can survive this too, since he is immune to crits and consequently effective damage. Padolf with the Estoc he is not even high enough level to use properly.
  9. Shinon? Don't recall him ever doing a baby face like that. But I suppose with Heroes art anything is possible.
  10. Pretty high, considering this is never elaborated on. Well, she is named Fury for a reason. You mean running around in her undearwear and going out to dinner with the prince of Silesia a few times? Well, as long as it doesn't take another year... Oh hey, it's the lady from Knorda. Truly the real mascot of the series. When all you have is a Seize command...
  11. Oh wow, nothing quite like a dull surprise face when about to put an arrow through someone's brain.
  12. What's your problem with her? Just having the name Fury is honestly really awesome. He has the ability to steal money from people simply by talking to them. Even Dew can't do that. And Noish. Who is also smol Eldigan, I suppose. Well, PoR has the Sonic Sword. But Elincia also starts with D swords, so that's not ideal.
  13. Sure, but it's still a dick move to find yourself a new employer during a battle. Although the "I like it rough" line is apparently only used because of it's infamy in the old translation. No idea what a more appropriate translation would be. Levin also has more movement than Azel. And while this unreliability is not ideal on the field, it does mean he can always brute force the arena. With his speed, it's not like he has to worry about all the Pursuit users that always stop Azel in his tracks. Sage is also another uber class, so it has insane gains. It also gives staffs, which is more useful than Azel getting swords. He also doesn't need to worry about sharing his Elwind since Azel can't use it anyway. Although Finn can simply use a Silver Lance (assuming he promotes before leaving). Pegasus Knights got B in Lances, so Fee can't inherit that one. Of course she could use also inherit a good sword or two. But there is much more competition for those. So is Shanan being with Sigurd supposed to be a secret or did he actually report it to the king like Oifey suggested? Filat most certainly doesn't phrase that fact as if it was something Sigurd is accused of having done. The accusation is about the intend behind it. Going by looks I wouldn't have pinned down Kurth as being older than Sigurd, but I suppose he clearly is if he has an adult daughter. Well, not like there was not much of a home left to wreck. Just ask Azel. I do actually like that in Kaga's games you sometimes you have women who had multiple partners and it's not something that's held against them. By contrast just look at Corrin tell Solei to "Please treasure yourself more" and whatnot. The attitude towards sexuality in modern Fire Emblem is honestly a lot more Victorian than the crotch, boob and ass windows in the armor designs would suggest. Women better protect their virtue until marriage or they are not good for anything. And of course literally everyone always nicely proposes with a ring and shit. And they always wait until marriage before they order the stork to drop by a baby. I mean, for crying out loud, they write the exact same scenario dozens of times in every single game. So many opportunities to do something interesting and they waste it to repeat the same trite bullcrap over and over again. Even with the barebone writing in this game, there are actually some very non-puritan scenarios here. For one thing, with Alec and Sylvia they basically had a one-night stand and now they are stuck with a kid. Beowulf also breaks up with Lachesis. Or at least it very much sounds like it. The wording isn't very direct there. And of course down the line we are going to see adopted families too. Since I guess family isn't all about blood or some shit? Crazy.
  14. How could a filter even do that? It just runs everything through an algorithm before the output. You could have a patch that restores the colors if you knew what the original colors were supposed to look like. But a filter? And some early screenshot most certainly suggests colors were meant to be more like the Thracia colors then the washed out colors of the filter.
  15. Sure. But that's really just putting a bandaid on it. At least I would assume that IS didn't halfass things so much that every texture can be fixed at once with a simple real-time filter. And I can't imagine anyone thinking the game is actually supposed to look so freaking yellow. Yellow buildings. Yellow floors. Yellow walls. And frankly, yellow grass. I do find the weapon shop in particular really interesting. It's directly lifted from Thracia. But of course on the GBA it looks as if it's practically the same color as the floor.
  16. Man, counteracting the piss filter really does make a world of difference. Suddenly you got green grass, white walls, much more visible floor patterns... Between all those GBA mods, surely someone must have fixed the colors at some point.
  17. Because it has a demo with a timer, I suppose. Although my personal take is that it's not a good sign when a salesman tries to rush you when you want to access the quality of an item.
  18. You really wanna have all of the dozen or so bosses on a map give bonus exp? Even though they already give more EXP due to their higher level?
  19. Probably the same way Professor Oak always teleports to you to tell you that "This isn't the time to use that!"
  20. But they don't have dump stats either. ...well, besides Sylvia who is just kinda terrible in everything for some reason. I could most certainly imagine that the women were given more even growths so that the impact that the father has on the kids is more visible, since unlike the mothers they aren't always the same. I do find that the kids' fathers are actually quite recognizable even without looking for unique skill combinations. Like how Azel's kids stick out for their magic. Or how Dew's kids stick out for having terrible HP while Holyn's will have HP that is frankly obscene.
  21. Pegasus Knights do make up the majority of the Silesian military that we see. In any case, Silesia and Augustria are also connected by water. And the last thing Sigurd's forces did was to subdue the local pirates. Taking their ships they most certainly have the means to transport a large amount of people even without Silesia going out of their way to send them any. The important thing is ultimately only that Silesia is willing to grant them asylum.
  22. They will stay near her, but they will also charge blindly at any enemy in their attack range.
  23. It's also the abrupt writing style. Like, Eldigan doesn't even greet his king. He just bursts in and delivers a grand speech about the toll of war. Then Chagall just instantly orders his imprisonment. Very different from how a similar scene was handled in Thracia. Seems like it's really just the blond hair. I mean she is the only woman who has a lover convo with Dew of all people. The game does seem to lack confidence in implying that there is more to the battles then what is shown on the map. Like right at the start where Sigurd told his knights that he is heading out alone to fight Verdane. Which most certainly makes it sound as if he means that he is literally heading out there all on his own. Cuan also said it's just him, Ethlyn and Finn who came. Which considering Finn is a nobody, also suggests that it's really just those 3. Most certainly very different from Berwick Saga, where Reese is always accompanied by dozens of knights whenever the Sinon Knights are shown to be on the move. Granted, with how the last battle went, it does kinda feel like Nordion would need more of an handicap then just Eldigan being absent before Elliot would be a threat to them. Yeah, that's not gonna happen. This is like the most unfriendly map in the game for anyone without a horse. You're gonna be very far apart indeed. Also any item that is not passed down will either show up in the shop at a specific chapter or will instead be dropped by a boss. With some extremely rare exceptions, like the Knight Ring, the Pursuit Ring, the Defender Sword and the Wind Sword. Speaking of Steel Bows, there is something rather funny about it and yet another headache for good old Lester. Because there is a relevant difference between this Steel Bow and the one Briggid comes with: Briggid's will reappear in the shop during chapter 7. But this one will only reappear in the shop during chapter 8. So if a bow isn't passed down to Lester, he could in theory get an upgrade in chapter 7. But only if Briggid's Steel Bow wasn't passed down to her own son. Keep in mind that he and Ayra have different class changes. Ayra's class has higher gains and gets Adept as a class skill. Nevermind that Astra is much stronger than Luna. Important life lesson right there. If you want to get in your sister-in-law's good graces, just gift her a sword. Never fails. Also noteable for the fact that even C-rank swordies can use it. "Years"? Was she still in grade school when he first started making the moves on her? Basically it really is just like moving a unit twice. Just with Attack and Staffs locked, since that what triggers Canto in the first place. If they weren't locked, you could attack indefinitely. No worries. This was already refined in Thracia, where cavalry cannot do anything but move after attacking or staffing.
