  1. Lowen is, ah.... well, he is nice and tanky, I'll give him that. But I don't know that I've ever used him except for runs where I needed him for supports. Personally, I use Sain and/or Kent for my cavving purposes, and in a pinch I'll use Isadora or Marcus on account of it usually being too late for unused Lowen to try and catch up at that point.. And really, in Hard Mode, that just puts even MORE emphasis on whichever LM cav I've been using, because they'll have an inflated level from having been used in Lyn Mode. But hey, I'm that one loser that generally hates using the GBA Paladins as units, so what do I know? TL;DR: Lowen ain't a bad unit or a bad kid, but I personally hardly ever use him.
  2. CHP 17 (Ilia route) I have Bors, Wendy, Wolt, and Lalum head up north toward the Village and (what I suspect to be) the sandbar, while everyone else (Roy, Lilina, Klein, Garret, Cath, Merlinus, and Fa) go the long way around. Wolt and Wendy take a few rounds at the Arena while waiting for the sandbar to appear; Bors' DEF is too high for the Arena to be anywhere even remotely near practical. Meanwhile, Cath and Garret make a steady habit of killing stuff, and Roy takes up the role that Marcus would've been playing in the early-game - aka, weaking enemies so that other units can get the kill, primarily by equipping a Steel Blade so he can do a crapload of damage, but only be able to attack once. Meanwhile, Klein has just enough STR to ORKO the Bishop with Purge and thereby avenge Merlinus.... but NOT enough STR to ORKO the Cavaliers that are hanging around with said Bishop. Garret goes out into the open water so he can deal with the Ballistae-using Archers, and from there goes to join up with the Wolt/Lalum/Armors squad. Lilina primarily uses her capped MAG for healing purposes despite being able to smite anything and everything within reach, primarily because I learned from the last chapter and am trying to boost her Staff level. As the sandbar team starts closing in on the castle, Peg Knight reinforcements appear from behind Roy's group, and a Bishop manages to catch Garret with a Sleep staff. That's going to bite. Lilina ends up resuming her standard nuke duties to deal with the Peg Knights, on account of Klein having better things to do. Garret kills the boss, and I stall for a few turns so Lilina can heal everybody for cheap EXP. 21 turns. Will not provide Supports and Weapon Levels from now on, until the conclusion.   3. CHAP 16x This chapter whupped my ass a LOT, 'til I realized I could basically force the boss to target his Berserk at who I wanted him to with the proper positioning. Lilina, you're a godsend. First things first, I swap out Merlinus for Garret. Generally, I'm more likely to need Axe usage than I am the Supply. On that note, I'm also taking out Astol (since Cath still has room to grow) and swapping in Fa. If nothing else, I can potentially use her as a tank for any enemy Bolting spells. That said, I've had to make at least three attempts at this. One of which ended with Klein getting Berserked and killing Roy. Anyway, Wolt and Klein are having a lot less trouble this chapter than they were in the last few. Since breaking my party in two has consistently lead to trouble (usually because of someone getting Berserked), I'm going to a) have everyone stay in one group and b) make a point of giving Lilina a Restore staff.... or I would, if she had enough Stave levels to actually use it. .... Shit. Anyway, I manage to work around that by having Lilina decoy the boss's Berserk usage, which basically solves all the problems I've been having previously. Lilina, Klein, and Garret go up the right side, while everyone else takes the left. Eventually, there's a lull in the killing when only the boss still remains. Bors takes him out with a Steel Axe crit, and gets a HP/SKL for it. 20 turns. ROY: same as before.   5. After 15-odd months, I'm back. LET'S ROCK THIS PARTY. Bors heads up a little so he can deal with Percival and his pals, while Cath (assisted by Wolt and Lalum) gets the first kill of the map. Wendy heads down to visit the Village with Merlinus, and Klein goes to back them up. Igrene goes over to stay put on a Mountain and generally do nothing but look pretty. Cath gets a couple of standard 'Meh' lvlups. Wolt continues to be generally unimpressive despite being a 20/6 Sniper now, although he did just get a STR/SPD/LCK as I typed that, so he can still improve in this chapter. Lilina's friggin' amazing, though. Garret shows up, and since I have him drafted, I make plans for Lilina to work her magic. Wolt and Klein continue to give an uninspired performance, and Bors is taking his sweet time dealing with Percival. Yeah, I could recruit him, but what would be the point? Astol gets the Hammerne staff. Roy plays decoy to draw out Garret, and Bors FINALLY takes out Percival after 6 turns of trying. A little girl stares down a hardened criminal, and the criminal blinks. Garret get. Never used him before, hopefully he'll be more productive than my Snipers have been of late. Roy plays decoy for the Wyverns, Klein gets a decent lvlup, and Bors will probably never get to where everyone else is on account of being a General. But hey, it's fine. I actually expected more reinforcements to be coming from Percival's direction. The main force starts coming into the central area with the boss, and Astol ends up taking decoy duty of off Roy. Garret (with Lalum helping him out) eventually gets a HP/STR/DEF lvlup. The man REALLY wants a few points to SKL/SPD. After a few more turns of gratuitously killing the reinforcements, I have Merlinus pass a Halberd to Astol, and from there onto Garret. Other than the bonus damage, it has slightly higher Hit than the Handaxe and Steel Axe that he comes with. Garret then crits with it, and gets a HP/DEF lvlup. 22 turns. Roy, Bors, Klein, Wendy, Lalum, and Astol take the main path up the middle, while Garret, Lilina, Merlinus, Wolt, Cath, and Fa go up the narrow path to the side. And then Merlinus gets killed on the first enemy phase to a Mage with Bolting. Garret gets off to a decent start with a Handaxe crit, and Lalum boosts Bors to where he can start killin' stuff. Cath then gets a +1 to EVERYTHING while weaking a Bishop so Garret can kill it off. On account of Bors generally already being awesome, I decide to let Klein take the bigger share of kills. Roy, in all his Boots boostedness, resumes his secret identity as Captain Decoy. Since I'm not going to bother recruiting Hugh, I just have Cath Steal his stuff, and then Garret kills him. Klein takes out that punk of a Purge Bishop, Garret gets a SPD point, and Wolt Brave Bows a Mamkute so LV1 Fa can kill it. Meanwhile, Douglas decides to play Peek-A-Boo with Wolt. Since Lilina is within range to heal him should anything go awry, I decide to let that play out and have Garret try to sneak past him while Fa retreats to go the long friggin' way around on account of still having crap SPD. Klein critkills a few Snipers, but gets a cruddy HP/LCK lvl out of it. Wolt continues to keep Douglas occupied. Despite not really being any better than he was last chapter, he's able to double-attack a LOT more enemies this chapter. Astol gets (FINALLY) a Knight Crest, so Wendy mosies on over to grab it so she can promote. And then HOLY CRAP +4 STR/SPD! She's one point below Bors on that now, despite being 9 levels under him! Meanwhile, Garret gives the second Mamkute a piece of his mind. And by 'mind', I mean 'Killer Axe', and by 'give' I mean 'shove violently through its big red skull'. While Cath joins up with the Wolt and Douglas duo to make it a threesome, Narshen gloats about how awesome he is... before Bors kindly shoves a Silver Lance in his face while taking a whopping 0 damage from the Runesword. And getting another point to DEF in doing so, just to add insult to injury. He lets the little bastard live, though, so I can give the kill to someone who needs it more. Prolly Wendy or Garret. Since Douglas understandably finds Cath to be better toy than Wolt, the latter drops out to go hang out with the main crew. Eventually, Garret critkills Narshen and puts an end to this crap.   6. So.... I kind of want to try my hand at doing a hack of one of the GBA games, mostly using Evangelion characters. Because I initially had it as a fanfic idea, but I think it'd be really cool to have it playable instead of just... readable? Now, I understand that 7 has the best support and understanding, but 8 has the Rogue and nonhuman classes (I have heard that Rogue can be imported to 7, but not sure about Manakete or the class I aim to derive from it)......8, IIRC, also has fewer chapters which could make things easier, ditto for only having two Lord characters (whom I can easily assign), and even IIRC fewer characters in general (which would be a help, since NGE doesn't have a ginormous cast) but then I'm not sure of what to do story-wise with the route split. If I used Blazing Sword, I'm reasonably sure I can crank out something to handle 'Lyn Mode', but then there comes a question of who I'd use for my third 'Lord' character to cover 'Hector Mode', and I'm not sure I'd even have anything special to add for HM anyway. Although maybe I could use it for a completely different storyline....? Anyhow, the overarching plot would be an adaptation of the Evangelion anime, but remodeled for a Fire Emblem setting. Unlike the show and movie however, where it started with giant monsters and then a war against humans for the finale, I'd switch that around in keeping with Fire Emblem tradition. Have the protagonists be fighting against the SEELE-analogue nation/alliance/military at first, and then probably keep something like the Dragon plot as a substitute for the Angels. Similarly, the characters would be remodeled for a Fire Emblem context. I already have most (if not all) of the NGE characters figured out on their classes, and some ideas for supports as well. As far as filling the gap between playable slots and EVA characters, one idea I've been considering is to borrow characters from other (probably mecha) anime. Like taking Naota (FLCL) as an axe-user, Viral (TTGL) as a Myrm/Swordmaster, that sort of thing. The other alternative would be to just use/remodel the appropriate Fire Emblem characters for those slots (probably end up being the case for Athos and other lategame units), and then I'd just have to work out Supports I'm not at all against doing the bulk of the coding work myself, I'm just wondering if a) this is even a project worth doing, b) there might be anyone who'd like to help me toss ideas around, and c) where I might get the training and tools to carry out such a project. I already found "The Ultimate Tutorial". It's.... kind of big, and while I'll probably end up needing to refer to it on more complicated things, perhaps there's something like a "Starter Kit" thread hanging around that I missed?
  7. Favorite: Sigurd. In part for being my first Lord, in part for being legitimately awesome. Renais twins and Chrom are the runners-up, followed by Lyn and FE9 Ike. Least favorite: of the games I've played.... I guess Roy because he's trouble in gameplay, even though I like him enough as a character.

  13. General and Super Recruit typically result in Goddess of Destruction Amelia, yes. Great Knight w/Axe or Lance specialization comes close, though. Paladins get a Move bonus and... not a whole lot else. It's already alive now, don't bother worrying.

Chap4 = 6 turns. Chap5 = 16 turns. Chap6 = 9 turns. Chap7 = .... when I saved the game at the end, it said only three turns. Since I'd left off after starting it some time ago and thus have no idea if that's accurate at the moment.... 3 turns.

  18. Chap 2: Blue Earth solo for the first part. 'Reason' is kickass. Spam focus, send Blade outta the way, reinforcements show up just as BE runs out of ammo and is near-dead. 7 turns. Chap 3: Nadesico and Gai, and then Izumi. I have Nadesico primarily stick with missiles to soften up enemies for Izumi and Gai. 7 turns.
  19. Hey man, it's not a problem. Bad things happen, and there's nothing we can do about it. At times like this, we must calm down, look deep within ourselves, sing Hakuna Matata, and continue onward with hope for a better future, in which our save files will not crash.
