  1. Just had a big one yesterday. Was playing Three Houses with some friends watching who are familiar with the game. Was doing the Ingrid Dorothea Paralogue and I haven't used either Dorothea or Ingrid so they suck. There's a few ambush spawns in this map that were coming after Ingrid. Problem was I put Ingrid in a spot in which she couldn't escape! Two of my units in the area fortunately could take care of a couple of them. Had Raphael beat one of them, then sent Yuri to take out the second one. This second one had to be killed or Ingrid was doomed! Yuri attacks with a Levin Sword, hits once at 70ish percent. Then he misses with his second attack. Me and my buds were like "NOOOOO!" But then, it happened. Like a Deus Ex Machina moment from the cinema, these words formed in the corner of the screen: ADJUTANT FOLLOW UP ATTACK Then Claude pops in with his bow, procs a swag crit and sends his arrow with flair into that sucker! Claude saved Ingrid in the nick of time and we didn't have to re do the map!
  2. When it comes to the weapon triangle, I'm ok with not being in the game if characters can use all weapons like in Three Houses. If there was a weapon triangle in Three Houses, the player would have complete control over it 100% of the time. In every given situation unless all three weapon types are deployed in one zone of enemies the player will always be able to equip the weapon triangle favored weapon on all their allies at all times. So in a sense if it's always going to be an advantage, it's like a constant bonus that's always on. I think this was the reasoning as to why it was removed in Three Houses. If the weapon triangle is used, I would like these to be the bonuses: 15% bonus and penalty to hit respectively. With an addition of +2 to damage and -2 to damage as well (depending on who has the winning weapon.) The magic triangle system was best utilized in Radiant Dawn. And I was intrigued as to how they statted out Thunder magic in that game. It has a low hit rate and low damage rate, but it has a higher crit rate than wind or fire. Normally this would result in Thunder being the worst weapon type by far, but if you want to go fishing for a crit then it becomes the most ideal choice in that circumstance. Especially if a unit has high luck and skill/dexterity! In fact I'd rather the weapon types be differentiated like that than they currently are. The difference of sword, axe and lance being that swords hit more often than axes but axes are stronger. And lances being the middle ground between them. It works fine when the weapon triangle is involved. But in Three Houses this differentiation results in me not using lances at all and opting to use axes and swords only to roll with the extremes of both ends. You should still use a unit that's good with lances anyways to take advantage of the brave lances and the Holy lances the game makes available to you, but overall they come off as the worst of the triangle to me in Three Houses as their jack of all trades role. It would be far more interesting to me if they balanced them more like the magic in Radiant Dawn. For example, what if they made the weight of axes really heavy but also beefed up the damage by a ton? Also allowing lances to attack units two squares away on player phase only kind of like in Dungeons and Dragons also would be quite interesting. Heck the way things are in Three Houses itself incentivises me to use bows and axes only. Get close counter and roll with a killer axe for the smash combat art to fish for crits. Plus roll with an iron bow, killer bow and mace/armor effective weapon and you're good to go. While I love playing this way to optimize the game, it's also rather samey when applied to all the characters. A game that ironically is very unbalanced is also one of my favorites when it comes to characters all feeling very different. Enter FE4 where swords are king and unmounted types suffer. But interestingly enough despite axes sucking, your axe units in FE4 get the tools they need to stand out. By giving them a brave axe and the bulk and strength to survive, they still have a use in your army among the sword cavs. The result in this is that enemy axe users are essentially goombas. Much like the soldiers in the gba games. But if an axe user does hit it does hurt quite a bit. I'm all for adding all weapon types the series has in the next game. Bring back crossbows and knives! I very much like the idea of knives being weak but also debuffing their victims. Also, bring back blades for swords and great lances and great axes. Those were really fun weapon types, but only really applicable in a game like Radiant Dawn where you have tons of inventory space. Heck, every game should have tons of inventory space. 5-6 slots is not enough! Magic was handled perfectly in Three Houses I'd argue. Love that dark magic is used for debuffing and it hits hard. And that white magic is used for healing but also has some attack variants.
  3. Marth: The og and classic Lord. Gotta love him for being basic but in a good way. Alm: Pretty fun character, I dig his quirky comments on environmental things when exploring. His while arc is pretty fun too. Celica: Her class rocks. Love the sword/magic/healing combo. Her character design is also one of the best in the series for all characters. Sigurd: Really fun to have a prepromote Lord! Plus his story and character in general rocks! Everyone in the 1st generation has such a lovable thing going on for them! Seliph: He is a kid who tries his best I guess. First dismountable unit is coolish. Leif: Was way cooler in FE4 with his usage of all weapons and magic. But his light sword is dope. And his critical rock. Also fun for him to be in a hard game and have it fit the narrative. Roy: His fire sword is cool I guess. Don't like him that much. Eliwood: Cool nobleman, sort of like Marth imo. Nice promotion with the horse. Hector: Love this dude's moxy. And his axe style is awesome. He gets great defense and swords upon promotion which is nice in FE7. Lyn: Her story and character are great. And she's a fun critical fisher. But overall she's a bad unit. Eirika: She ok. Another Marth style of personality. Overall more fun than Lyn because of horse. Ephraim: Cool dude. Love the lance usage. Sweet personality. Ike: LOVE this MAN. He's my favorite FE character. His story rocks and aether is supremely fun. Plus his high strength and defense plus speed makes him an overal fun destructive beast on the field. Micaiah: Very very cool Lord. She is rather frail and kind of sucks at the end of the game. But it doesn't bother me this time because she can be a healer at that point. She is a pretty interesting subversion of the Lord archetype but in a good way. And it's fun to have her fight Ike's army at times. Chrom: Love his memes lol. But he's a chill amalgamation of Ike and Marth. Enjoy his usage of lances upon promotion. Lucina: Same with Chrom, but more Marth. I do think she's dumb as heck for trying to kill Robin tho. Robin: Cool character. Like that they use magic and swords. Corrin: Nice classes I suppose on promotion. Xander: Epic weapon, cool character design. Ryoma: Epic weapon, nice memes. Byleth: Really like the personality and his storyline. Plus he can use all weapons and magic which is a universal thing of 3H, but still it's awesome he can do it. Edelgard: Love her as the antagonist and her role in 3H. She's interesting because one could say she is a hero, another could say she is a villain. And it's a beautiful thing. Dimitri: His character takes a fantastic journey in Azure Moon. Love the lance aesthetic, plus his high strength and defense growths are orgasm inducing. Claude: Great personality. Plus his bow preference is really awesome because bows rock in 3H. Awesome class too.
  4. Gotta go with the many bs moments of Thracia. That game gets ya. Oddly enough I didn't find that one boss in FE6 that tough in the lava chapter early on. Just have your cavs rescue the person who attacks the guy and then have another person rescue drop them. You can then heal the character then rescue drop them back into position if you can arrange everyone correctly.
  5. If you want to get really specific with the Jugdral games, you can play FE4's first 6 chapters. Then stop that and then play FE5 and then return to FE4. Because FE5 takes place between chapter 6 and 7 of FE4. I've done it once. It's a little weird though but chronologically it lines up.
  6. I personally love the random bonus you get for a weapon in RD's system.
  7. Agreed with all points so far. In FE4 I will add that for mounted units you may switch weapons after attacking via super Canto. This allows units like Finn and Lex to throw a hand axe/javelin, then equip a decent melee weapon afterwards. Sure the same could be done with trading, but there's more flexibility to be had with equipping after attacking.
  8. Alright so I'm looking for some advice on how to go about this let's play with a buddy of mine. We are planning to hack the game so that the enemy units can be moved. We will play the game as normal with me playing as the playable characters and my buddy playing as the enemy. We have noticed a few things during our experiments of the code we found. For one, we are able to move both the playable units and the enemy units on the same phase. When the Player Phase is over and all units on the map have moved it just defaults to the next Player Phase, skipping the Enemy Phase entirely. If there are some enemy units that haven't moved and we select the "end" option, then all unmoved enemies automatically move until the Player Phase is done, as if the remaining enemies were "Partners" in a Partner Phase. After that it will again be the Player Phase. Now to make things interesting, we are planning on flipping a coin to decide who goes first. And for the first phase we will take turns moving one unit at a time, almost like a game of chess. Then we will have the person who went first move all of his units in the second turn and then the other player will go after him. From then on out the remaining turns will play like how a Fire Emblem game normally plays. So the first turn is only to ensure that neither player gets screwed immediately on turn 1. We will not be resetting the game if any playable character is killed, nor will we reset the game if a bad level up is earned. Likewise, resetting to get good level ups at the base is a no go. Otherwise it would be kind of cheating the experience. However if Ike is killed , it's a game over as usual. (This may make it interesting where I may want to engineer a way to have Ike die and my buddy would be having his enemies run away from him to avoid the game over!) Overall, the goal here is to see how far we can get without getting stuck. If we are confident that a chapter can still be cleared because I made a dumb error or just got unlucky then we will continue to try again until we are sure that we are stuck. At which point my friend will have beaten me! I've got a few questions for you guys and some concerns. First off, which difficulty do you think we should go with? We are considering that the easiest fit would be Hard mode. Hard isn't that difficult compared to other games in the series, so I don't think it would be too bad. I mean even on Hard mode enemies are not that strong compared to your units. Even if crap hits the fan we have Titania on our side and she will be a freakin' godsend. Although we have considered Maniac mode, but that would require a bit more hacking/patching than we may want to deal with. SPOILERS Second, the biggest thing I'm concerned about is Naesala. I foresee no trouble in this playthrough except getting past that chapter 19. That crow has got to go down somehow and so we've got to make a unit strong enough to do it. Or a few good strong units. I know I've killed him before in an Ike solo run before, but this playthrough cannot afford babying of that scale. Another fix could be to perhaps just bum rush the boss. Though I can't see that working if my buddy gets smart. Cause he can just move the boss away and have him confront my forces at the last second. So really it all comes down to killing that crow bastard. What do you guys think would be the best way to go about this? END SPOILERS Lastly, should bands be used to increase stat growths? Also should we go with a fixed rate or a random rate? I'm thinking we should definitely go with a random growth rate just for the fun of it, but not sure on whether we should use bands. It kind of would be fun to not give that edge to the playable characters so I'm leaning towards no bands. One big important thing to note, my bud is not a big fan of the series. He actually has never played the games before. But he has been watching me play through Radiance for quite a bit because of his interest in the story. He has done a lot of reading on the series because he does find it interesting, more or less he really just likes to talk about it. So he does now how to play at least, but he is by no means an expert gameplay wise. He will make some novice mistakes I imagine, though I doubt he will be as dumb as the AI. That would be miraculous. In any case, let me know any other ideas you all may have. I'm open to suggestions. Really looking forward to getting this thing started! It's gonna be fun to see how he's gonna screw me over too. I fully expect him to pull shenanigans like having enemy recruitables like Ilyana running away from Ike, killing off recruitables like Nephenee and Kieran, opening chests and dropping their contents. And if he's feeling really evil, having enemies run away from my dudes on defend "until X amount of turns" chapters. Which of course would deprive my units of exp. :/ We are still in the experimental phase, so any and all input is appreciated!
  9. I think that he'll try to seek a solution that both parties will be satisfied with. Trying to bring about peace but independently of either side.
  10. Trial maps used your endgame characters stats and didn't give you exp
  11. I think that's kind of the point of awakening's and FE8's world map travel systems. You get to fight generic battles on familiar ground for extra exp. I don't necessarily want the feature to replay chapters, because I love to replay my favorite games anyways. But I wouldn't say no to the feature being added in for those who want it.
  12. I honestly think that the RNG has gotten worse over time. The numbers shouldn't choose an average between two numbers giving your characters an advantage. No man, an 80% chance of hitting your foe should be exactly 80%. Not what 80% feels like. That's the thing about chance, it is unpredictable. That's why I think the RNGs of older games actually feel more legit. I play a lot of dungeons and dragons to, where you roll d20s to hit guys all day. And yeah, sometimes you just don't roll high enough somedays and can't hit shit. It happens. In Fire Emblem though maybe it's just one guy that can't hit after a couple of rounds or something. In these kinds of games you've got to employ a viable strategy with minimal risk. And then commit to it. Sometimes things don't go your way though, that's war for you. Been that way since war games at the beginning of the century really.
  13. I've heard there are websites out there that print out game covers for ya. They're made to be the exact size too. Totally would look into it if I were you.
  14. Luckily I started with PoR in 06, then picked up RD within the first month of its release. From there I picked up the gba ones for cheap, and then on it was simple to get SD and Awakening. It's sad to see fans that can't get ahold of them for cheap though. I just hope Nintendo someday releases them all on the Wii U VC. All of them! And of course translate the older ones via remakes? I can dream.
  15. Can't see how you can't choose Ike for the bros. Dude's an inspiration, makes me want to go hit a gym so hard it explodes! RAWR! As for Ssb4 Ike and RD Ike, I feel like the main difference is that his muscles are a little bigger in ssb4, but in RD the muscle lines are darker so he looks a lot more toned in RD. At least in the portrait, ssb4 Ike is like RD cutscene Ike I suppose. Makes me wish there were more muscly females in FE dressed similarly as Ike does. Muscles are hot on the ladies too! This is probably related to my female choice. Lyn, gotta say she gets my vote because back when I was 15 or so playing the game for the first time I though she was super-mega-sexy-hot! Yep, those were the days. Too bad game characters don't grow up like you do, she'd make a super hot tweenager. But it's ok, I've moved on to adoring Titania. Yay progress!
