  1. Hello, I wanted to see if I could either get certain pages translated or get access to certain pages to get them translated. I posted this same question on a older post but since im new to the site wasn't sure if you would have seen it.

Specifically all support conversations for Ikexranulf ikexSoren and ikexelincia and ikexlethe. I want to verify information about the changes the localization team decided to make.

Also Vol. 1 p. 192 and Vol. 2 p.102 if possible so I can verify information on that regard as well. Wouldn't mind seeing the support conversations for jillxmist and ziharkxmaurim as well. I would prefer to be able to see them in Japanese even if you wish to translate them just cause I'm going to have a someone go over all the possible ways it can be translated for certain conversations.

So sorry about this super late reply. It's a lot easier to reach me on my blog or twitter these days : )

Sure I understand if you want someone else reliable to look into this for you. Please find links for the conversations below:

      IkexSoren

      IkexElincia

      IkexLethe

      JillxMist

      ZiharkxMuarim

For those pages you requested, I'll have to look into them when I get home.

Let me know if anything interesting comes about~

  2. Hello, hope you're doing well! I have a question related to Radiant Dawn, again.

There's some peculiar line in the Japanese extended script that I find troublesome. In chapter 3-12, Tauroneo comments on how the terrain isn't ideal.

    Spoiler

    Micaiah:
    “Are the rocks ready?”

    Tauroneo:
“Yes. They’re in position. However, the terrain conditions are not ideal, so I cannot promise they’ll be much use.”

    Micaiah:
“Well, we don’t necessarily need to hit anybody. Our aim is to prevent the enemy from advancing forward.”

Given that the Daein Army has the high ground and has prepared boulders, I don't see how the terrain conditions weren't ideal. I guess Tauroneo could be referring to how rocks will be relatively ineffective which is addressed in the gameplay due to there being so few rocks in comparison to the horde of enemies you fight but this is just my interpretation.

Also, is Tauroneo more harsher on Micaiah in the Japanese version?

The English script has Tauroneo criticize Micaiah passively. While in the extended script he's a lot more direct in his criticism.

    Spoiler

    Sothe:
“But, Micaiah… Is this really necessary? Can’t we avoid all of this fighting and somehow pretend to obey the senate?”

    Tauroneo:
“Micaiah, it was you more than anyone else who used to hate plans like this…”

    Micaiah:
“The apostle’s army has incredible numbers. We wouldn’t stand a chance taking them head-on. They would march right through us. We need to give Pelleas more time, but if we hold back, the senate will know we’re up to something. For now…let’s just try to draw this out a bit and stop the apostle’s army.”

    Tauroneo:
“Lady Micaiah. Your strength moves me. I shall not falter.”

    Spoiler

    Micaiah:
“No, we don’t have enough time. If we let the apostle pass through here, it’ll be too late and her army will cross into Begnion. That will surely anger the senate, and the senate will move to destroy Daein.”

    Tauroneo:
“Lady Micaiah, please calm yourself. I know that the one who hates this plan more than anyone else is you.”

    Micaiah:
“We must fight with everything we have so that Daein may live on!”

Indeed, that's why I wrote "if she can avoid it." : ) We know she couldn't in that case for the reasons you listed.

Sorry for the late reply! Been busy with many things so haven't been able to check the forum for a bit.

On the "terrain" bit, he says:

      Quote

      しかし、このような足場の悪い場所では精度は期待できぬ。

However, on this kind place with poor footing we can't really expect great accuracy.

To which Micaiah says the above, which makes sense, as she doesn't mind if it misses since she's not aiming to kill as the primary objective.

So by terrain he meant their own footing/placement of boulders was likely limited, as well as the rocks being unpredictable if they slid down, etc.

For Tauroneo's line against Micaiah, he says:

      Quote

      ミカヤ殿、どうか冷静に…このような策を厭うていたのは、他ならぬあなただったはずだ!

Lady Micaiah, calm yourself... when it came to plans like this, you more than anyone were against it!

He adds both a strong declarative だ (da) alongside the "!" The way he tells her to calm herself is rather strict too, so I'd say one can definitely read it in a chiding tone.

But to be fair the way he talks in general to her is not exactly formal, though it should be worth noting that the "!" implies that he is indeed more excited than he normally is (as he's usually quite calm).

      Hope that helps!

  8. Hey Kirokan!

I was reading through the script again and noticed that at the end of chapter 1-2, Jarod praises Micaiah for being clever and seeing through his ruse.

    Spoiler

    Micaiah:
    “Where is Laura?”

    Jarod:
And you saw through my ruse. You’re as clever as they say, my dear. You even came alone. How brave of you. Was that to give your friends a chance to escape? What a thoughtful little thing you are.”

What exactly was the ruse and how did she see through it? To me it seems more like she fell for it so I want to know if the tone is sarcastic or genuine.

    1. Kirokan

      Kirokan

You are correct! It's more obvious in Japanese too that she purposefully goes out of her way to make the group split up so she can go alone.

Jarod indeed says she's clever like English. Well, as "clever as they say." More literally, as "sharp (in intuition) as the rumors say." That part in English is a pretty accurate translation. : )

    1. Kirokan

      Kirokan

I was looking through the chapter, and wow! The extended script has more dialogue with more of the characters contributing. I still don't clearly see what Jarod's "ruse" may have been, but the Japanese says:

      "なんでもお見通しってわけか "

I would translate it as "It's like you can really read my mind!" [and hence see everything I have planned] I think "ruse" came about since " 見通 " is primarily used for "seeing through a trick" or ruse. (it literally means "see through"). So if translating out of context and knowing it's simply a villain speaking, this would make sense.

However, when we do consider the context, the fact he was noticed despite hiding means it was more likely he was remarking on how it's like she could hear his thoughts, or "reading his mind."

I hope that helps explain it! Micaiah's ability may have detected him somehow, or she's just sharp.

I really want to go translate this extended script more than ever when I get time though. On the net people have translated parts 3/4 but not 1 as much... and now I'm seeing there's quite a bit here too... I just need time!

I wonder if there's some dialogue from the extended script that may help explain that. Or maybe he was going to pretend to be someone else or something but they skipped straight to it. But now I'm curious myself xD

I've been really busy with the Valentia Accordion, so it may take me a bit to get to this, but I've added it to my list of things to look at : )

    Micaiah:
“Honestly. Here I thought you were saying something enlightened, and you’re just talking about him again?”

    Sothe:
    “What do you mean, again?”

    Micaiah:

And I know you want to be just like him… But to the people of Daein, he’s the man who crushed us three years ago. Some would even call him our archenemy. I've been meaning to follow up that post with looking in the dialogue you pasted there too. From what I saw on a quick run though, it's similar enough! But I want to look at her tone specifically, as well as the fact that I don't think they mention Ike by name. : ) But will get back to you on that!

    2. (See 2 other replies to this status update)

  13. When it is mentioned in the epilogue that Micaiah ceded Talrega to Jill, does it mean full independence or autonomy? As far as I know, to cede means complete independence but maybe the Japanese script is more clear.

    1. Kirokan

      Kirokan

Ah, I was actually working on another post about Micaiah's Japanese representation that may come in handy --that is, I think the localization made her more harsh toward Ike (and Sothe's love for him) than the Japanese did. So that may be helpful whenever I get around to finally finding time to post that up. : ) I'll try to get them up in the next few days, but let me get the epilogue for you and post it in your thread. (Update: I posted in your thread with my findings!)

I generally tend to do retrospective analysis rather than predictions, but I feel the Awakening/Fates characters will perform much better. I feel the trends listed above may fit the western demographic more than the powerhouse Japanese demographic for many of the characters. Tharja and Camilla will probably place quite high as one would expect! In my previous analysis, it was worth noting that, if combined across all her games, Anna herself scored quite high! So she may be something in Heroes too.

I noticed they combined some of the games too rather than how they were separate before, which will help some characters but also put those that are still separate at a disadvantage.

That sounds pretty interesting to look into actually. I assume it's complete independence, but I'll take a look at it and make a post when I get time. : )

Thank you! Christmas really isn't celebrated here, and I don't either, but the season is still a wonderful time. So thank you!

  16. Do you know of a popular enough poll that can give the percentage of FE players who have played each game in the series? There are some on Reddit but that's not a good representation of the general FE fanbase.

    1. Kirokan

      Kirokan

On this Famitsu poll I translated back in 2016 (and was conducted June 2015), there is a section that asked players how many of the games they played.

      Titles Played:
      13% – 1~2 Titles (103 Votes)
      13% – 3~4 Titles (103 Votes)
      15% – All of them (115 Votes)
      20% – 5~6 Titles (163 Votes)
      39% – 7~10 Titles (302 Votes)

It had an "All of them" category included as well as a general break down. There were 13 games at the time of this one's release (up to Awakening). It was conducted before Fates I believe.

The overall voting pool is still smaller than "general fan base", but it's still something.

      Hope that helps!

  17. I am planning to do an analysis of each lord's popularity in the CYL poll because I enjoyed your analysis of each game.

I think combining both Marth's and both Ike's votes makes sense and compare them to the total vote count of both their games as opposed to just one. Combining Masked Marth and Lucina makes sense as well especially when they are in the same game.

I am going to ignore Eliwood and Hector in FE6 because their votes are negligible and because I don't want to compare them to the total votes cast for the two Elibe games, unlike Marth and Ike, because their overall presence is minimal in FE6 so it would be unfair to their percentage popularity.

The only problem is Leif because his votes are split more evenly than Eliwood and Hector so it seems like a disservice to ignore his FE4 votes. But if we do include them, it would be a disservice to his popularity percentage because it'd be compared with both FE4 and FE5 vote totals. Giving him the Ike and Marth treatment affects him negatively but so does giving him the Eliwood and Hector treatment. Alternatively, I'm planning to add all his votes and compare with just FE5 vote total but that seems like I'm giving him preferential treatment. Or I'll just leave him out of the analysis.

    What do you think?

    1. Kirokan

      Kirokan

That makes sense about Eliwood and Hector, but at the same time if negligible it may not make too much of a difference to combine them either. Of course just making a note about it should solve that issue so it should be alright to exclude!

Ike was the most complicated one since I would say his appearance (and some may argue personality) changed the most dramatically between FE9 and 10, but I think combining them for simply the lord itself should work fine.

I think the Leif situation is unique, considering FE5's placement within FE4. No other game does that exactly (perhaps FE2 and 1 with the fliers...?), but even Ike's FE10 is at least a few years later, where as 5 may feel more like an expansion of sorts? It is a good question. What I would probably do is show how his votes/percentages would look in all three scenarios (Just FE4, just FE5, and hypothetical combined). You probably noticed me do that in my analysis a lot. It takes a lot more time and space on the page, but does give for a more informative outlook on the results, so may actually benefit the analysis more!
