  1. Byleth's nickname being Ashen Demon always intrigued me because it didn't really seem to have any relevance story wise. So this DLC introducing called Ashen Wolves is making me wonder if it'll be relevant in the DLC. Does this connection between Byleth's nickname and the new house exist in other languages? Cause if it's only in english, its probably just a coincidence.

    @Silver Lightning

So far, the DLC has just been referred to as a side story, so it's uncertain if its just an interlude in part 1 or an entire new route. Though I'm thinking it might be a route considering the borders seem to turn purple in the trailer and I think the reason the new house only has 4 new members is because you seem to be able to use every other unit in this side story (as shown in the shot where you see all 3 house leaders behind Byleth and the map where both Edelgard and Hilda are deployed, which is normally impossible).

  2. I did that Paralogue in my Hard Classic BE run and it was pretty easy. The boss didn't aggro until i had units other than Marianne right next to him. My guess as to why he aggros earlier with some players is that he aggros as soon as it's in range of a unit other than Marianne. Since I had no fliers, I could be pretty close to the boss without actually triggering it thanks to all the trees slowing my movement, but with fliers ignoring terrain, he might aggro pretty quickly. Can't test that theory at the moment though.

  3. Yeah thinking about it the debacle around SwSh seems more like a problem with Game Freak pumping out a new game every year and less with pure lazyness. People keep comparing how unpolished the game looks compared to titles like BotW and Odyssey, but these games had years of development that permitted that level of polish. BotW came out literally 6 years after the previous instalment, while Pokemon is a nearly annual thing at this point. Game Freak also seem to struggle since the jump to 3D, so allowing them to work with other studios affiliated with Nintendo as well as allowing them to wait 4-5 years between pokemon release might allow the games to reach a level of polish similar to what fans are expecting.

Though still, I think this whole ordeal is a good occasion for the fanbase as a whole to realise that the series has far from a perfect record. GF has been cutting out beloved features from their games for years now, always to replace it with a new gimmick that usually disapear in the next installment. The fact that 3rd versions are often glorified DLC released at the price of a full game is also not a new thing.

And I really think everyone involved in the development of Pokemon games (Game Freak, Nintendo, Creatures Inc., etc), should think of the valid criticism they're getting from their consumers right now and take their time with the next game, not release Pokemon Sharp Sword and Sturdy Shield next year. Though if the game sell well even with the uproar, they might just ignore all of it and continue as is, which would be a shame since I really think pokemon is not living up to it's fullest potential and as stagnated for a while now. I still had fun with Moon, but I completely skipped USUM and can see myself doing the same with SwSh since pokemon games basically feel like the same experience with a new coat of paint at this point. Which is probably part of why I never really felt the itch to go back and replay a Pokemon game, since the experience is mostly interchangeable (the other part being that the presence of a single save file would mean erasing all my pokemon and progress). And though the core is fun, after experiencing it with little change for now close to 20 years, it's gotten kind of routine sadly. Though you never know, they might announce some big news with regards to SwSh that will shake things up massively, but from what we know as of now, I kind of doubt it.

  4. My biggest beef with the national dex being dropped is that excuse given as to why it was necessary, that they needed to create high quality animations, smells like BS. The animations we saw from SwSh are the same basic lacklustre animations we had on the 3DS and the models for all the past pokemon are all already created. The animations in pokemon Colloseum, a 16 years old game, are more detailed than those in SwSh.This decisions just seem to stink of lazyness (or even greed if it turns out you'll need to buy other pokemon games to transfer the pokemon not included in SwSh to gen 8).

Mechanics like Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves being dropped in favor of a lazy mechanic like Dynamaxing is just the cherry on top.

I really don't think I'm going to be buying this game and it's not just because of the national dex things. I've been growing less and less interested with the series for years now because of how stagnant it is. These cut features are just last straw in my case.

  5. My hype for SnS has honestly been pretty low and this latest news kinda killed any interest I had in the game. I thought the reason they had spent ao much time doing high poly 3d models for the 3DS games was to future proof the series. But now, we have Masuda stating that from SnS forward, national dex is a thing of the past and you'll only have access to a certain region's pokemon. I guess it's going to be "gotta catch some of 'em" from now on.

This debacle on top of me really not liking Dynamaxing and the focus it seemingly has in-game and I don't even know if I'll pick this game up when it releases. From all the gimmicks they introduced to "spice up" the gameplay since gen 6, mega evolution I really liked. Z moves were pretty boring, but I at least like it better than "we'll make your pokemon ridiculously huge for 3 turns" that we're getting here.

So. It was all true then.

Well, darn, still a shock. It leaves a question though: how the bloody mothering heck did Thani get those leaks ?

What a beautiful time to be alive !

... did no one saw the Byleth Sword's blade that is very close to her face ? Just asking. 😛

Also damn, that crown really help my hatred dual buns.

I have no idea if I'm imagining things or being fooled by the lighting, but in one scene of the trailer, Edelgard hair and eyes seems to have changed to a greenish color, reminiscent of Seiros (looking at it again, it might definitely just be the light). And while the image from the artbook is too blurry to truly tell, her eyes looks more greenish than purple there, which could mean they both happen around the same time. Byleth holding their sword at Edelgard's neck could make sense since in the scene I previously mentioned, we see Edelgard seemingly on her knees saying "my teacher", right before we switch to Byleth looking in her direction with a grim look. And considering Seiros and Nemesis were enemies and Edelgard and Byleth are related to them, they might be continuing a long lasting feud...

  7. Just now, Anacybele said:

Those are time skip designs? I assumed they were the trio's parents. Where was it said that they're older versions of the trio themselves?

Anyway, anyone notice that in a few clips, Byleth was blonde instead of the usual dark bluish green hair? This must mean some customization for them is confirmed!

Those design are too similar not to be them, especially since they're introduced in the trailer right after a 5 years time skip is mentioned.

And I assume that Byleth's hair change is due to some story related event or to his powers. And this isn't confirmed, but in one shot, Edelgard also seems to have different hair and eye colors, so that would also point toward in-game magic being the cause for the changes, not customization.

  8. @Lord_Grima I'm pretty sure Edelgard is using the same sword as Seiros. There's some high quality pictures of the trailer on Nintendo's E3 website and we can see the similarities

    Spoiler

    media-0.image.png

    media-3.image.png

We can see that the base of the blades are really similar and the crest of Seiros on it. And I don't know if it's the lighting of the scene, but Edelgard hair and eyes seems to have changed color to become more greenish, similar to Seiros. And I'm wondering if Byleth hair change is supposed to reflect Nemesis, not Seiros, since he seems to have a slight green tinge to his hair in the picture.

  9. Regarding Lysithea, if she does die, I think the best to go about it would be to have her die if you pick the Black Eagles or Blue Lions, but have her survive if you choose the Golden Deers. That way, you sidestep having players lose a character they invested heavely into.

    6 minutes ago, ColdHeartAndASummerDream said:

I don't know, but I just have a feeling that the Black Beast fought in the second Three Houses trailer is actually Lysithea corrupted, as I think the Iron Maiden from the first trailer is Edelgard corrupted.

(Edelgard's crest is on the shoulderblade of the iron-maiden. It's HIGHLY likely that it's literally Edelgard)

Assuming the iron maiden is Edelgard because it bears the crest of Seiros seems like a stretch to me. A lot of thing related to the church bear that symbol so my guess is that it's a generic enemy rather than Edelgard.

  10. Welp this thread has died.

I'm still playing the game and enjoying it, though I definitely understand where people are coming from when they say the game is too time consuming. I personally dropped the two other gachas I was playing before (FEH and FGO) to focus on this one, since despite the amount of time required to do dailies, I enjoy the gameplay here more than in any other mobile games I played.

I finally managed to break the 5k barrier with 3 characters recently (Freya, Shelfaniel and Luna) and I'll have my first two 6* SSRs tomorrow when I sweep the last shards I need to upgrade Shelfaniel and Tiaris. I now also have every character in the game except for Lanford, since I finally got Altemuller and was lucky enough to pull both Rachel and Landius from the last banner.

  11. Finally managed to beat SS Ultimate for this week. I thought I might not be able to beat it this week since the enemies moved, but by sacrificing tons of resources to get my Bozel Seal and Earthquake and master Cherie's Assassin line, I was able to beat it. I required some luck and several tries, but it was really satisfying to finally beat it. Moreover, last week's reward was an underwhelming Giant's Belt, but I managed to get a Veil of Light this week, which is best in slot for Luna.

Speaking of Best in Slot, Cherie is currently rocking a Last Rite and a Lone Star ring and I just got Jormungandr's Eye from a gear map event. Just missing Ragnarok to replace her current Devil Axe to truly max her out.

Regarding the daily grind, my mindset is that this game isn't a race. If I skip a few dailies here and there, it's not a big deal. I haven't even touched the Eternal Temple since I tried and got destroyed by the level 60 Leviar after easily beating the level 55. Thunder Dragon is still just level 55 since my Elwin isn't up to par and I just beaten the Fire Dragon level 65 this week despite being lvl 60 for a while now. Not to say that I wouldn't welcome any changes that would make the dailies take less time, this is just how I deal with how time consuming they are at the moment.

Any details for the Sakura Taisen characters by chance? I really hope we can get these collabs in global, though I'm not holding my breath.

And as Lux said, it's not that we're advocating for Freya Best Tank or something, it's just a counter reaction to seeing a lot "Freya sucks never use her she's useless" comments.

On different news, I finally got Ullr's bow! My plans to upgrade armor for Ledin (and other tanks once I level them) with my Epic Spirit stocks went down the drain right there lol. I'm going to be using Griffon Knights with her for now since my cavalry are really underleveled. That will also work nicely with Lanford's faction buff when I want to use that.

Also, was the next focus banner going to be the one with Shelf? I'm wondering if I should spend some pulls on getting Listell and/or Lanford copies, but if Shelf's in the next one I should wait for it.

Really hope we get the collab here too since getting 4 more units for princess would be nice.

My Ullr's Bow is still at level 30 since she wants it for the +1 range and not for the stats. Only thing upgrading it would give her is HP since Atk is useless for her. Also, you should keep Demon Hunters in mind as an option for her. Having 3 range attacks with the chance to lower the enemy's mobility is pretty good.

Next focus banner is Luna/Dieharte/Tiaris, but the one right after is Shelf/Bozel/Lana.

Well, regarding new characters, apparently the Sakura Wars collab will have some great PvE characters. For Trails, the event SRs (Kloe, Oliver) are also pretty great.

For Freya, her greatest weakness is her offensive potential and handling boss units (or enemies that only have their "hero" left). Since Barb and the like deals damage to both the Hero and the Soldier, if the Soldiers are already dead (or don't exist) she basically loses half of her damage potential. DEF Conversion tanks don't have to worry about this loss.

As a side note, this is also why Fixed Damage (not Percentile Damage) tends to suck against bosses. Again, DEF Conversion doesn't have to worry about this.

I think my biggest problem are people saying "Ditch Freya the moment you get Ledin, she's unusable late game". The way I've kept seeing people word it, a princess player that doesn't get Ledin is pretty much SoL late game because Freya's gonna be useless, which was definitely not the case for me. While my Ledin is level 60, I basically never touch him outside of the Thunder Dragon.

Ledin is not perfect for princess team. He can't guard and have faction buff turn 1 unless you waste Act Again on him and he can't bring Burning Sun, so he can't maintain his DEF+MDef conversion all the time. I think that ideally, a princess team user would want to raise both since Freya can tank turn 1 with Faction buff and is arguably better when dealing with any time laws that reduces the damage you deal or requires you to use fixed damage. Def conversion is't gonna do much when the enemy takes 80% reduced damage. The same way fixed damage won't help against bosses.

I also like that Freya is the only tank beside the upcoming Randius that can damage ranged units (and Kanzaki from the Sakura Wars collab). Seeing weakened ranged units kill themselves by attacking Freya is pretty fun.

  14. @Magus of MemeryThat is a fair point, it's true that offensively, Freya's damage is pretty much just her Talent proc and Phalanx barbs if it's up. And sadly, Valkyrie doesn't fix that problem. Her new skill is a magic attack guard skill that, for some reason, replaces her Def with 0.8x her MDef. That is really underwhelming since 1. When do you really need a magic tank and 2. Even as a Valkyrie, her Def is higher than her MDef, so replacing her higher defensive stat with 0.8x time her lower defensive stat is really, really underwhelming. Valkyrie does give her 445 Int vs the 373 Atk she has as a Royal Vanguard and removes her weakness to Infantries, though I'm not sure it's worth losing nearly 600 HP and 50 Def. At least, she's still not useless and can even be considered the best tank when dealing with some of the most nightmarish Time Laws that reduce how much damage the enemies take.

@Sylphid In CN, the order for the upcoming new T3 and Gate of Fate for SRs was Silver Wolf, Sonya and then Freya, so we should get it sometime next month, though as I pointed to Magus of Memery, she sadly doesn't seem to gain much from that class. I also managed to get the last 2 copies I needed to 6* when doing a couple more pulls for Lanford. I didn't get Lanford, but I got a second Listell, so she's now 4*.

From now one, there will be a delay before they add the Gate of Fate of newer characters. And speaking of newer units like Zerida and Lanford, apparently most of the SSRs from now on will need more stars before their talent becomes truly good, though most of those heroes are PvP focused. Apparently that the last banner that had truly good PvE heroes was the Twin Princess banner, though the best PvE SSRs, even to this day in CN, are often listed to be Tiaris, Liana, Lana, Leon, Bozel, Elwin, Ledin, Cherie, Luna and Altemuller, so all the units we get from now on should only really be prioritized if you care a lot about PvP.

And yeah, Jugler's sprites are not at all fluffy.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Sylphid said:

Well I got Lanford on my first 10 pull so that's nice. Was expecting to pulling a bit more R units and maybe get my first 6* that way, but I'll take this victory against gacha rng.

Oh, I didn't mean her defense stat specifically, just that she kept dying easier. My bad on the confusing wording. I forget what the difference was though, I think I tested with same equipment anyways (aside from weapon since Templar Ledin and Freya can't use the same ones). Could have been bonds as you say, at the moment Freya is definitely behind on those. Nice to know her barbs will work there too eventually.

And congrats on Listell, that's amazing you're only missing 2. I myself am missing Shelfaniel, Listell, Zerida and Jugler. Shelf is my top wanted unit out of them because Princess Faction. The other three I don't really know what I would do with even, except Jugler is a cute and fluffy pet.

Well Ledin does had a built in damage reduction in his talent while Freya doesn't have anything that directly reduce the damage she takes. Her talent does make it every unlikely she'll die to a crit and her pre-battle damage can potentially reduce how much damage she takes if she deals enough damage to kill some of the enemy soldier. Also, she eventually get access to the Valkyrie class and a Magic attack tank skill, so she can rid herself of her weakness to infantries when that comes out. Her star level could also contribute. If you're unlucky while pulling her and focus on Ledin in the Gate of Fate, it's possible you could get Ledin to a higher star level than Freya. I got decently lucky with her and thanks to her Phantom Battle, I'm now at 110/150 as far as shards are concerned. Now I'll have to see whether I get those 2 copies before her Gate of Fate is released.

Congrats on Lanford in your first 10 pull. Shelf is definitely useful as a AoE spammer, especially once you get her to at least 4* so that her 2 small AoEs only have 1 turn of downtime, meaning that she can AoE every turn if you give her both. I'm shooting for 6* because then all her offensive skills except Heaven's Sanction have no cooldown and even Heaven's Sanction goes down from 5 to a mere 2 turns. I honestly haven't touched Zerida and Jugler all that much because they require a lot of investment. Zerida apparently sucks until her talent is 5* and she needs 6* to be really good and Jugler needs to eat 4 runestones to be good + his personal SSR that allows him to ignore skill cost.

  16. I think I'll skip the Eternal Temple for today since even though I have Elwin and Leon at level 60, they don't have any bond or gear investment, so they're most likely gonna hit like wet noodles and don't survive long. When I do get them up to speed, the idea of Pegaluna -> Slayer Emblem Leon -> Freya  -> Elwin seems like a decent way to deal damage.

18 Gates of Fate per day is amazing. I'm gonna continue getting 3 shards/day for Tiaris and Shelfaniel, but instead of just doing 3 gates for some of my less used SSRs, I think I'll go all in for my main princess team during the event and try to do 3 shards/day for Tiaris, Shelf, Luna, Lana, Cherie and Liana for the duration of the event.

I also somehow managed to get Listell on my first multi. With that, I literally every SSRs except the two Strategic Masters faction buffers. The game really doesn't want me to use that faction.

@SylphidThe funny thing is that they'll eventually change the Dragons and Eternal Temple bosses so that they can be damaged by fixed damage sources that deal damage equal to a multiplier of a unit's stat. So Freya will be able to deal damage with her barb eventually even against those bosses. And it's kind of weird that your Freya had less defenses than Ledin, since according to this table from the wiki, Freya's Def caps at 361 while Ledin's cap are 347 and 326 as a King and Templar respectively, so she should have more Def. It might have been due to bond investment that your Ledin had higher def?

  17. 6 hours ago, Sylphid said:

Wow, that's amazing! I should try the harder difficulties of it some time soon, but all the other things usually give me my fill of the game lol.

I never bought the "Freya sucks!" speakers myself (like a lot of absolutes in meta talk, it reaked of overfocus on a specific mode, namely dragons and, if I remember right, the mode we should be getting tomorrow), but I unfortunately still let her fall off recently. I like her barbs mechanic but I ended up having a lot of other units I wanted to use more so I ended up not dedicating potions / class materials / hammers for her. That said, my Freya's at level 50 so she's not that far behind, 2 to 3 days of Training School should be enough for that. My main team and some additional units are about ready now though so I should work on her next.

Well after weeks of just mostly doing Anikis and Dragons, I wanted to test myself by trying out the Timeless Trials, especially since it has some good rewards. The 300 crystals from S and the SSR accessory are especially nice.

The part about people overfocusing specific mode is something I realized just now. When I was leveling up and still using Freya as my number 1 tank, I kept seeing people say that she was useless because most bosses in endgame content are immune to fixed damage. Well I'm now 60 with all the Time Rifts besides 9-Elite cleared, all the story mission beat and now SS trials under my belt and the only relevant content where fixed damage doesn't work are the dragons. In every other mode except the dragons, her barbs work absolutely fine. Thanks to the Mirror Armor I recently got for her, she effectively deals 3.5x her Def before battle even starts then deals 5x her def at the end of battle for 8.5x her def total. That damage ignores any damage reduction or any amount of defense and as I've recently realized, she actually deals twice that amount since she deals both full barb damage to the unit and the troops separately (i.e, if she has 500 def, her talent would deal 1000 to the hero and 1000 to the troops, for a total damage of 2000). I really wish her Gate of Fate would come out so I could unlock her 4th Bond level to further increase her Def. (Getting the 60 shards I'm missing for her to be 6 stars would be nice too.)

It's funny to use her in PvP. I sometime face some Cheries with pretty low HP and after taking a couple of AoEs, they die to the barbs before they can even touch Freya.

  18. @SireI watched a video of someone clearing it first to at least have an idea of how the phoenix moved. It really helped since I only had to restart once after the phoenix moved for the very first time. Liana is really useful here to help counteract the Phoenix's self-damage with Prayer.

I'm also feeling the Runestone burn. I'm now down at 0 after using my last ones on Leon to get him Thousand Hooves and another on Lester to get Move Again. I have tons of SSRs sitting unused because I don't have enough Runestones to get all their useful skills. Most notorious of those is Jugler who needs 4 runestones to reach his full potential...

@Sylphid I actually managed to completely beat the Timeless Trials yesterday. SS2 and SS3 were by far the hardest maps to beat, SS4 and SS-Ultimate were a breeze in comparison. Shame it only got me a Giant Belt, but I'm glad I was able to beat it.

Also, while I was leveling up, I kept seeing people saying Princess player will need to switch out Freya for Ledin eventually, that she falls off and becomes a dead weight in comparison to Ledin. And while it's true that she's useless against Dragon as a damage dealer, I don't think I could have beaten some of the TTs without her. All the maps that had laws reducing damage would mean that Ledin would deal poor damage, even with his talent. But since Freya's damage all comes from fixed source, she completely ignored those laws and was my main way to deal damage through those laws. So I'm glad I stuck to her and didn't blindly follow the "Freya's trash, use Ledin" train.

  19. A Ultimate was the farthest I had managed to go in Timeless Trials previously, but since I reached level 60, and heard that Ultimate trials past A were still pretty manageable due the enemies not moving as long as you kill them in one turn and leave their attack range, I decided to give it a try even though my units are still not fully built (average power is around 4.2k, which is pitiful compared to the 5.1k I sometime see on units like Leon and Lana.

Welp, turns out this weeks S Ultimate trial can't be cheesed by Lester hooks or Liffany bombs :

    Spoiler

    a35aef10d9.jpg

There's only one entry point to that room and it's impossible to hook everyone or to even use Liffany's bombs. Not to mention the enemies have the three most annoying AoE mages to face on top of a really hard time law. Unless I somehow find a strategy that allows me to do this with my units, S-4 is probably the farthest I'll go this week.

Edit: Managed to beat it using Luna, Cherie, Tiaris, Shelfaniel and Hein as a Teleport Bot. Tiaris an Shelf were mostly there to buff, Luna chipped with her 3 range and Cherie did most of the work. Took me 14 of the 15 turns, but it worked really smoothly.

@Sylphid Yeah, that's the only time where I'm not happy about getting bad SSRs. My haul for this week's packs was pretty bad with me only getting a Last Knight duplicate, a Nighthawk and a Bloody Melody.

  20. @Sylphid I forgot to specify but I'm pretty sure the reason Lana and Shelf even survived Ice Age with Miracle is thanks to Luna's aura. The Mdamage reduction is crucial and it allowed me to leave Luna alone in range of the dragon to tank Ice age then have my 2 mages come in to attack.

At this point, Im glad even when I get bad SSRs since it gives me more ore for epic martial spirits. Doing the Timeless Trials up to A also gives 200 extra ore per week.

  21. Decided to try my luck against the level 65 Ice Dragon, since he's by far the one I have the easiest time facing. I failed the first run, but I learned that while Shelf and Lana can survive the AoE attack of the dragon with Miracle, they definitely cannot without Miracle. So second time around, I weaved them in and out of the dragon's range between his AoEs, though I always left Luna there to tank the AoEs. Didn't get any SSR drops, but considering I managed to get a Mirror Armor from the Fire Dragon yesterday, which I really wanted for Freya, my Epic Martial Spirits are already taken for. Getting 60 Ore from the bonus is a nice jump from the 50 the level 60 gives.

Other reason I'll need a lot of Epic Martial Spirit is that I decided to do 6 pulls on the Macho Loto and to my amazement, I managed to get 3 bronze, 2 silver and 1 gold, with the gold being the Slayer's Emblem. Once I level this up, my now lvl 60 Leon will have good SSRs for both his weapon and his accessory. I'll also need to level up the Winged Shin Guards I got from reaching level 60. I still need to decide if I'm gonna go for the Rune and skin or just keep my Crystals.

  22. Did a couple of pull on the Alt/Bozel/Bern banner since Alt is one of the 2 SSR I'm missing. Didn't get him, but I did get a random Dieharte, who was the only other SSR I didn't have. So I'm still missing Altemuller, but I won't have to spend crystals on the upcoming Luna/Tiaris/Dieharte focus banner. At this point, I'll probably wait for the banner that has both Leon and Alt to try for him again.

I also reached level 60 today. Getting Gold instead of EXP will be nice since I have plenty of gear to upgrade. Also, being able to level up units beside my main team will give me more flexibility. Got Freya, all the princess SSRs, Ledin and Sonya at level 60 with Leon now at 57. Probably will work on Elwin next since the thunder dragon is still the bane of my team.

  23. Spoiler

What is up with IS making popular male characters into underwhelming free units?

Haar is litteraly Cherche with -1/-1/0/+4/+2, which becomes even worse when you factor in her pref weapon.  Even if I like Haar, why would I spend precious resources like Grails on a unit worse than a 2 year old 3-4* I can much more easily merge? They couldn't even make his kit interesting. Good job ruining another fan favorite IS.

Also, I'm terrified of facing Caineghis in AR. I use my Micaiahs to deal with armors usually, but Caineghis has DC and effectively gains +12 Res when attacked on top of nullifying visible buffs and he's colorless. Even with weapon effectiveness, I won't be able to 1 shot him with either of my Micaiahs. As if AR armors sitting in a corner weren't already an absolute pain...
