  1. Yo, it's your boy, AnonymousMonthLate. Have you heard about Arzette, the Jewel of Faramore, an action-platform made in the style of the Zelda CDI games? I have mixed feelings. So, so, soooooooo many indie games really have no purpose other than being derivative of something else, typically with an anime girl protagonist for added superficial appeal. "It's like Mega Man, but not!" "It's like Castlevania, but not!" "It's like Mega Man Legends, but not!" I swear every Mega Man spinoff and subseries has one of these except for frickin' Rockman Strategy. "We use sprites and/or low-poly models as an artistic choice!" I'm sure you do. However, I actually like the CDI games. I've never played one in my entire life and I don't plan to, but they're a real monument in internet meme culture and I love the cutscenes very dearly, so I'm actually kind of excited to see something imitate that style. It also kind of seems like one of those things (along with FMV games) that got left in the 90s not merely because the technology evolved past them but because the artistic standards for video games solidified into something which didn't include...this. Ultimately and all excuses aside, I would have to see if how the game turns out and would actually like if it were-
  2. Knowing what a Publican is or about Second Temple demonology can enrich ones understanding of Luke 19 or Genesis 6, but they ultimately support the text rather than circumvent it. Context is great but you don't appreciate Shakespeare by spending hours upon hours researching Elizabethan England first. A High School English teacher telling you about McCarthyism will not help you understand the actual character emotions in the Crucible. There comes a point where you actually have to engage with the text itself if you're going to make a criticism of it, because when you have an exchange like this: "I think it was kind of egregious and wrong that this character did this." "I do not factor this part of the text into my assessment because I speculate it was added due to circumstances." It's hard to understand why we're even considering the work at all.
  3. Yeah that sounds like a critical theory which has been a disaster for the Bible so it can't work out well for anime. Edit (Important):
  4. Yeah, really has flown by. Sorry. I am actually a big fan of this theme, so we'll see what inspiration hits. Before I click, could you provide some additional details about the server? That could also be helpful for others considering joining.
  5. There is also perhaps something very dystopian about meta and circumstances factoring (if not at all than so heavily) into our assessment of writing, even if it is just for an FE game.
  6. There is none good but God. People just find some vices more familiar, comfortable, or acceptable than others. Hilda's vices bother Ruben a lot more than Lenticular. Obviously these are fictional characters, but fiction is only valuable to the extent it reflects reality (neither the audience or author necessarily have to realize how or that this is happening at all).
  7. I, too, fell into the first letter trap at first when I first determined this. However, you could change the last letter (or any of the other letters) instead. Or add a new letter. Honestly, I'd say Ringo would be perfect if not for it being such a goofy frickin' name still.
  8. I fully expect Ring to be renamed to something one letter off when Genealogy gets an official localization.
  9. I'll have you know I stubbed my toe while gardening this week, and I only cried for twenty minutes!
  10. None of that is to say whether I think Timerra is better or worse that Amber or anything, I'm just saying that particular reason isn't very compelling to me.
  11. Sand Storm's average damage increase is significantly less valuable than just having that much more attack because it lacks consistency. Your procs don't occur spread out over all your attacks, they happen in specific moments where they may or may not be useful. You might activate Sand Storm against a weak or weakened enemy or not activate it against an actually critical target. You may or may not kill before eating a counter attack, etc. A unit with 1,000,000 attack and 5% accuracy would be a bad unit even if they had the highest average damage output in the game, and that's just a more extreme example of what we're looking at here.
  12. The best thing about gambling is when it only appears to be random. Not merely rigging, but truly mastering a game of chance and its hidden depths. Poker is the king of such games- if it were all luck (as we usually mean when using gambling as a pejorative) then there would be no poker championships. Some people are better at poker because it contains inherent "soft" skills, things which cannot be reduced to moves. Some people are just better at bluffing. Chess requires you to out-think your enemy, but Poker requires you to infiltrate and destroy them on an emotional level, to watch the hope and panic raise in their eyes as they are confronted with mighty uncertainty.
  13. The other night I drifted a while continental drift defile Mountains sitting in a pile LEONARD BERNSTYLE
  14. My disdain for tarot cards aside, it's more inspired by amphora art than medieval manuscripts. I was thinking more of the snail knight kinda stuff. Hm, true. They should definitely do it.
  15. While I hate to put the cart before the horse, there really is something fitting about fantasy heroes being in a literal storybook. I'd probably go for something with more of a medieval manuscript flair. Parchment Emblem, if you will.
  16. In a game where like six units get proc skills lmao
  17. Indeed you can! This is actually a key step, the "manip" part in RNG manipulation. Or at least, that's how I learned how to do it. Should help you at least get one copy of this 10-cent thunder.
  18. Are you saving before getting the rings, seeing if you like them, then resetting if not? You can advance the RNG by entering and exiting a map- it will advance by a number equal to the number of enemies on the map.
  19. lmao just use rng manips to guarantee Olwen S ranks
  20. I hope y'all didn't miss me too much. Joining the club of dudes who are basically the same with Slash Man and Neon Tiger, Battle Network gave us BeastMan.EXE who is also the same thing. Bit's design has always been really cool to me, but 1 damage on contact? Really? Was this game even designed in-house?
  21. One of the most interesting parts of FE6 is how it's very clearly supposed to a "re-interpretation" of FE1 (I say "very clearly", but as far as I know this is just a fan-theory which which I've adopted because I like it). I would've been interested to see the series attempt that same idea- build a new game from the ground up using the same basic skeleton and tropes as another game. The franchise has increased its number of explicit references, but the spirit has changed, whereas Roy's journey is in clear parallel to Marth's right down to getting into Melee. Completely unrelated, but I've heard it said American interest in FE wasn't because of Marth in Melee, but Roy. Sure, Marth is higher tier and is remembered better now, but Roy's design is more appealing to western tastes. Then again, you have to unlock Marth first, so maybe not. The greatest localization patch in the history of localizations, maybe ever.
