  1. I like the character of Murdock well enough, but again, I couldn't disagree more. He's not a remotely difficult opponent. Even among immobile FE6 general bosses, earlier ones such as Leygance and one of the ones on Bartre route have far, far higher stats for the time (particularly speed), and have WTA on Armourslayers instead of WTD (Hammer has garbage hit rate even with WTA). Murdock has a tough map but he himself is honestly quite easy. And FE6 has quite a few bosses who are very nasty 1/1, even moreso than those generals. Scott comes to mind as someone who may well require obtuse tactics to beat (like attacking with a mage then rescue-drop before he can switch to his Hand Axe) since he has a monstrous crit rate and high power such that nobody except maybe Zealot can tank a crit. Henning has high stats overall, two very different weapons to watch for which can double/ORKO various people, and ludicrous evade for the time. Zephiel is basically a strictly better version of Murdock: actual res, no armour weakness, a small crit rate for low-luck PCs, and support which appears in the room as you fight him. My first FE was 7 and I think most of its characters are pretty weak. Great gameplay but characters? Eh. Beyond a couple amusing bit characters like Matthew it doesn't have much IMO. I see your point, mind; nostalgia is powerful. But it certainly doesn't fully explain this situation. I mentioned Fates and I feel like Fates is relatively few people's first FE. Awakening I'll grant, was a first for many, but IMO its characters hold up very well even as someone who had played most of the series before it; in fact it's precisely because its characters are so likable that it's the big hit that it was. If you want my specific opinions on the characters I mentioned: -Lucina is admirably determined to change her world's shitty future. She is the female lead (female Robin possibilities notwithstanding) and avoids most of the stereotypical anime female pitfalls, and doesn't have to worry about the game having a more badass man upstage her as happened to Eirika and Micaiah (who I think are also good, don't get me wrong!). Her voice work is superb. -Like most comic characters, Tharja either works for you or she doesn't, but she certainly worked for me. She's... creepy and zany but has solid interactions in her supports; other characters often react to her in rather hilarious ways. There are some great scenes like when she pretends to be normal and somehow comes across even worse. -Xander is easily the best execution of a Camus-type character in the series, precisely because his loyalty is not just to his king, but his father, and literally his entire existence is built on that loyalty. In Birthright in particular he's built up as the main antagonist and that plot arc has a shocking and effective conclusion. In Conquest you get to see what his trope looks like when he's on your side, which is also fun. -Camilla is simultaneously admirable in her strength and self-confidence (and trope-breaks what female PCs in FE are rather hard in a way even Lucina doesn't) and a messed-up headcase (on Birthright especially) who gets some solid backstory development for why she's that way. Has a great set of supports and relationships. None of these are unpopular opinions among the fandom at large but for some reason Serenes in particular seems quite negative on all these characters to varying degrees and I feel like a lot of it is just backlash. Not that there aren't honest reasons to dislike these characters of course. And I'm not going to claim to be perfect about this; it's entirely possible that I like Roy and Ike less than I should because of backlash myself. ^my unpopular opinion is that i agree with you in full.
  2. Guys i like that people hate: Tharja. She's extremely unpopular in the west. (Her popularity really comes from Japan or thirsty people) I just always found her amusing. I also like Rhajat cuz she encompasses the socially awkward goth girl thing better. Peri: She makes me chuckle, and i like her as a unit. Bartre: Hes so loveable, i always use him if he can proc that spd stat early enough. Karla/Bartre is my shit. Camilla: Shes great. Isadora: is my shit i love her Hana: She never bothered me. Im not a fan of hers as a unit, but the hate she gets, w o w. Makalov: Hes a unapologetic assbag and i like that about him. Berkut: Too much fun for me to hate. Guys i hate/dislike that other people love: Lyn: She is so disappointing. I was so excited about her back in the day, but ugh shes just all "huh what? WHAT?" after her mode ends. Plus i hate how she chews on Hector's dome for existing. Mia: omg no. Just no. Go away, peppy girl with zero depth or purpose. The problem: Shes a great unit in RD. D: Severa: Everyone here knows how i feel about her. But good gods! Go. Away. Cordelia: I have a special, yet low key loathing for her. She makes my eye twitch. I hate how plastic she is Humble bragging is gross and so is her manipulation tactics. No thanks, red haired Taylor Swift. Kent and Sain: I dont HATE them, per se, but i find them useless as units after Lyn mode. I can just use Marcus and Isadora with far less effort or headaches Emmeryn: *insert massive rage face here* oh just fuck off forever Hinoka: Yeah, no stop ignoring the rest of your siblings and grow some subtance, boo. Mozu: Tired of country bumpkin tropes tbh plus i dont care for design or much as a unit shes not super obnoxious like Donnel though. That twangy Appallacian accent makes my teeth float. Sharena: Its mostly her voice its terrible. Shes an ok person outside of that, but omg that squeaky four year old voice, why gods. Takumi: CONQUEST ROUTE ONLY: comes off as a petulant piss baby without the fun. In other routes, hes fine. thats all i got for now
  3. Happy Treason Day! Party like unruly and ungrateful colonials and dont forget to dump the tea in the harbor
  4. That guy is a real bro. Doing his part for team bad guy in Zofia. Lets not forget the lone female sniper in FE7's Eliwood getting Durandal level. And Crimean Valkyrie of FE9
  5. Cheers Yeah, i dunno. I find it extremely unhealthy to dwell that much on something like this. It's ultimately not that important in the grand scheme of things, ya know? I understand being disappointed, or really disliking a game. But literally going on and on about it? Even attacking other people in posts about it? Ruining other people's fun? Come on, grow up. I hate Final Fantasy VIII a lot but if someone enjoys it (and i know many who do. That and Kingdom Hearts which i loathe) im just gonna be like "cool, dude." Im certainly not gonna bring other people down just cuz i dislike that. Whether its gross or not, is subjective. But the fact the people calling it super gross, were the same people screaming about its removal/modification, bothered the fuck out of me. It's hypocritical to cry about how nasty or undesirable a feature was, and then do the proverbial equivalent of tossing poo at everything when its removed. H o l y s h i t. "It's removing content! It's censorship!" But, its like, they hated the feature to begin with, wtf do they even care? Ugh. Anyway, OP, the way you stop yourself from getting as bad as the tosspot in that link, or some of the more bitter people around these parts? Well, my tactic was to stop caring about it and play the game if you feel like it. If you dont feel like playing it, dont. Come up for air. Maybe put it down and play something else. Get into another game in the series, maybe? Either way, it boils down to not putting that much energy into the negative. Good luck, mate.
  6. Yeah, but like, im well over 30 and consider teens to be kids. It happens the older you get. Especially when teens arent mature yet, even in medieval settings. Its always been a little more than just kinda unsettling how much Japanese culture and media is obsessed with youth. But, honestly? They are making FE to appeal to international audiences as well. So it wouldnt hurt to stop having armies of literal children to play as. When Randal, who looks 25, refers to himself as an old fart, i feel things have gotten out of hand. O_o I dont mind most of the Awakening and Fates casts. I find it funny that its the opposite with me. Cordelia is the dull (yet Actually Rather Unpleasant) one, while Hinoka is obnoxious and really negligent. The way she treats her siblings bothers me.
  7. I feel story isnt that important to FE. While it should make sense, it does not need to be really amazing. FE's popularity is gameplay and character interaction based. Celica is not an asshole, and in the context of what she knows, her reasoning makes sense despite being flawed. Shes a human being. Berkut its a lot of fun due to his voice actor. If avatars happen again, marrying shouldnt have to be a thing. The lore of the series could connect even without Outrealms. Outrealms are a copout. I hate hate hate single rng. Im bothered af that every single lord in the series is between the ages of 15 and 20. And mostly male. Why cant a lord be a lady over 30 who's children are too young to fight, but are in danger, so she goes out to kick some ass in war. I mean, come on, the a mount of literal children that lead armies in that verse, is getting fucking ridiculous. I find Peri appropriate for her universe. A girl who is raised in a nation where nobility can obviously get away with murder. It makes sense bloodthirsty tropes would show up in FE. It makes more sense than someone like Soleil who is a trope right out of ecchi. I like Rhajat. I dont like Hinoka that much. I despise Cordelia. Im ok with weapon durability not being a thing. Mila's Turnwheel type thing is bomb and should come back. I was willing to forgive the amount of damseling that happened in SoV due to the age of the original story. I like Delthea. I feel Sonya is better than Deen in every way. The only thing holding Shadow Dragon back for me, is the prerequisites to get certain guys and chapters being murdering other guys in your army. Elibe has the weakest OSTs out of the lot. Down with Emmeryn forever. I sided with Plegia.
  8. I thought Yuzu could go merc but....alas. I used a pitchfork on her too. Oh well. She ended up a cav. But its on my post game file so whatever.
  9. Omg Makalov is one of mine too. My Tellius guilty pleasure list is vast. Blazing Sword: Bartre. I love him. I love everything about him, except his base speed. But if he winds up with an early speed proc, hes on the team. Karla. Cuz Bartre/Karla is my shit. Rath. I love Rath. I dont use Snipers in this game so a mobile bow user is good stuff. Serra. Oh yes. Isadora The robe she comes with and the body ring in the desert = better than wasting my time raising a cav Sacred Stones: L'Arachel. She benefits from early promotion so much. Plus her ham and cheese is great. Amelia cuz i dont use that many cavs in this game. Seth and Amelia are doing the cav/pally things. Plus i always use lady cavs. Syrene cuz pegs. I love pegs. Tellius: Tormod. Both games. Hes a cool dude and kinda sturdy if raised, so yeah. Makalov. Both games. Hes decent, and in a game(s) where his class is bomb, why not? Plus his janky personality is interesting. Fiona (RD). Shes the only one flying Daein standards on her horse in the game. Plus i just love her. Laura (RD). I like having her nuke things. So tiny.... Pelleas (RD). Story reasons tend to make me use him, but hes the only dark mage thats playable. So i use him. Nealuchi (RD). Because raven bias and i love that old coot. Vika (RD). Raven bias and her design is wtf levels of amazing Sigrun (RD). Shes a favorite, even if shes not great. Awakening: Virion. I love him so much. Nowi. Everyone hates her. I think shes great. Tharja. I have a soft spot for her. Fates: Odin because he's hilarious and has best kid. Orochi. Love her attitude. Hayato. Mostly cuz his child. Benny. What a love <3 Shadows of Valentia: Clive. My first Clive turned out so good, ill never not love the guy. Luthier. What an adorable nerd.
  10. Cheers. This is such a subjective question, everyone will give a different answer or a resounding "it depends". Cuz honestly, this no right or wrong answer. What bugs NekoKnight may not bother Nobody. What makes a bad character to Glaceon Sage is likely totally different from what makes a bad character to me. bad characters to me are: Super one-note characters who have no depth. (i.e. Ilyana, Faye, Setsuna, etc) Personality that relies on some sexist joke. (i.e. Sain, Saul, Lon'qu, Soleil, etc. sorry Lonk fans Guys who are just dumb. Not even endearing dumb like Bartre, i mean like Vaike levels of dumb. Characters who are plain meanspirited just because. (Jakob, Azama, etc) Units who cannot double ever (unless i like them as characters. See Benny for details). Units who dont grow well no matter how much resources you have. And just plain units who cant pull their weight.
  11. Anyone? i dig them. They all designed nicely, and have cute personalities. Emma is young but cheerful or plucky. Randal is a salty gambling sort that reminds me a bit of Joshua from FE8. Yuzu means business but has a softer side. I like how shes funny by being unfunny. What a nerd. Shade's design is fucking amazing and shes cute on top of it. A little lazy, kinda goth, but a bit fussy. I like her a lot. As units they seem pretty ok. I want gonna get this dlc, until I realized there were four characters with supports. Worth it.
  12. Hey thanks pikappa! I have this issue too and even logged on to talk about it. Now i can fix it
  13. Pretty much. Also, comparing Alm to Corrin is a low blow, mate. I think youll be hard pressed to find anyone who would agree to that comparison. Alm's not perfect. Yeah Clive making him leader of the Deliverence like that was weird af. (And I initially thought he knew Alms real identity for a long time. Prolly would have worked better if he had.) But this isnt Corn levels of bullshit. At least we had moments where Alm did junk to prove himself to the squad and Clive. Like rescuing Clair. Instead of Corrin who is just that special, no one questions them. I also go into this game knowing how old the original story is. Its like 25 years old jrpg story. Its not always going to make perfect sense, but honestly? Saying its near to Fates level is something i cant and wont agree with.
  14. This is a point in the story that left me scratching my head. Like why isnt the cast making a bigger deal out of that, like wut my dudes.
  15. Too easy to comprehend, to an almost the degree of a child, for that's actually how Walhart acts. His goal is to wipe out the Grimleal, yet he thinks he's entitled to enslave and conquer everything to the extent, that overshadows the goal of destroying the Grimleal. Rudolf's motives may be a bit out there, but he carefully planned it out, and you find out that Rigel actually loved him. Walhart was hated and feared whereever he went. As a conqueror, he was kinda shit tier. No one ever loved him for his deeds and the Grimleal became totally second bananas to his ego. That is what i meant by Walhart should have been written more like Rudolf. People of Valm should have valued him to a degree or inspired those he nurtured. (Only Cervantes adored him) his ego should have been second bananas to his true goal of destroying a dark faith. Walhart had zero compassion, whereas Rudolf had plenty. He felt pretty shitty about what he did (the memory prism of his convo with Mycen really sums it up). Despite how weird Rudolf's plan was, hes still less cartoonish and silly than the "inexorable" Walhart who let his ego rule in the end.
  16. I have to say i enjoed Rudolf a great deal as an antagonist. What he does isnt nice and throws so many people into horrible danger. But he knows he must do this to ensure his goal happens. This is what kind of villain/antag Walhart should have been.
  17. https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PLmai4tR__ZfQ_J4KaaXAfJVpEs5BAbvGR&params=OAFIAVg4&v=51mG0Hu7sXQ&mode=NORMAL i want this to play every time i enter a room. but yes, this game's ost is bomb
  18. Same. I think had he not been voiced, i wouldnt like him as much. Hes just got so much feeling.
  19. Oh man Charlotte looks great. Im gonna be spamming orbs to get her.
  20. Im inclined to agree, mate. Just explaining thats a big reason Camilla gets static. Charlotte gets a lot of noise at her too. Thing is, male characters don't see the same noise. Theres a reason for that, but its kinda obvious what it is, so ill leave at that.
  21. Camilla hate has nearly everything to do with her design. It puts people off, big time. While you have plenty of folks liking her design (mostly straight guys), more foks detest it because it makes her seem shallow eye candy. Her attitude toward Corrin helps little, sadly. I like her, but her design irks me because of what it reduces her to. My niece has never played Fates, but plays Heroes, and even she dislikes Camilla, and shes twelve. Thats the power of the design and how it affects people's perception.
  22. Oh granted, Faye's voice at that moment was deliberately dripping with vapid tone, but man, it really did color the entire character for me, in the worst way. I was going to just shrug off the supports with Silque cuz the A wasnt that assy, but then she pulled that. I think it really boils down to life experience with passive aggressive people. I no longer surround myself with people like that. Im certainly not gonna be fond of it in my entertainment if it amounts to nothing whatsoever in the narrative. Also, you dont really have to justify shit, my dude. You like character, and you dont have to explain yourself. I guess you feel you need to because people explain their reasons for not liking her, but honestly, get in the habit of that and you wind up going in needless circles. Thing about the one-note folks of yore, there was never more than maybe one or two a game. Not counting the early games in the series where characterization was limited. Marisa actually had more going for her than 3edgy5me. She was super socially awkward but wanted Gerik's attention. Or friends in general. Lute was very socially awkward and had a lust to see the world. (Her supports with Kyle touch more on her character about that.) And she had a mischievous side (Artur supports, where she does this to show affection). Shadow Dragon characters sadly didnt get a lot of characterization. They spoke once and that was usually it. Even New Mystery had limited development there. But there were some expansion. Mia and Ilyana are pretty one-note, but since they were just two, and harmless quirks, it didn't bother people. In fact, Mia was super popular in the fanbase for a long time. Then Awakening and Fates came out with not just a couple of tropey guys, but entire casts of them. I like plenty of characters from those games, but yeah. That left a funky taste in the fandom's mouth and here comes SoV with a brand new character. They expanded the Gaiden cast to flesh them out, and added a new girl. Sad, the canon immigrant ended up being written much like the tropey characters that soured many in the fandom. People are more than done with that kind of thing. I guess thats why people got mad when she was leaked during pre-release. I wasnt there, but i guess it happened.
  23. I assumed that was because he knew Alm was Rudolf's son. Yet, now im not so sure. Mostly because after the reveal, Clive doesnt say "yeah i knew." At least not immediately. Ive not completed the main story just yet, so im not sure if Clive ever talks about it. Clive doesnt act at all surprised when Alm lifts the Roysl Sword...
