  1. Xander's hit on Ryoma is too unreliable. If we're also counting skills. Ryoma gets Vantage + Astra + Swordfaire, Xander has err... Elbow Room + Shelter. A more interesting battle would be if they fought the old school arena way: No skills equipped and Iron Swords only.
  2. Gosh, that escalated overnight x'D. Read your posts yesterday, and I came here to thank you guys for convincing me to drop Keaton. Wow, should have brought the pop corn lol. In terms of turtling, what's so bad about it? Not saying to be over-cautious, imho I think defence and offence is fluid depending which map/position on said map. I agree with what guedesbrawl said about Ch24. When tanked well, the 12 mov enemy units will just fly to their death (glad to know this strategy is still usable on lunatic x'D). I also think that Ch19 is also easier when played defensively.
  3. The only hard limit I have on this run is no DLC and no illegitimate skills. There's things that I'd prefer doing, such as not using kids, or overly abusing tonics. Visitor rewards, and route bonuses are OK (Why buy certain weapons when they can be had for free). So there's two shots of Dread Fighter okay to go - though I might not actually use them in the end. Is Keaton really that bad on Lunatic? He has very good bulk, and gives Camilla nice bonuses. The main issues I can see is his one range lock, and beast weakness which may become an issue late game, depending on what kind of weapons enemies get (hence he's on the 'maybe' list). Kaze's got his niche. Outside of mage killing and pair ups - his speed let's him use steel shurikens well, and is great with the Hunter's Knife. x'D I don't use that much fliers so ch 20 is tedious, especially getting all the chests and routing the map. My dislike for berserkers is very irrational. It probably started with not liking a lot of the axe users in the GBA games (disliked low def paired with axes' low hit. Don't trust things that can't hit). Now it's more like a weird personal tradition of not having warriors/zerkers. I'm aware it's possible to get excellent results and good team set ups from them, it's just not how I want to play. My loss, but don't let it spoil anyone from enjoying them ;)
  4. Completed that chapter last night. It's really interesting to read your breakdown @joshcja, afterwards. It's always quite nice to see how different people deal with this chapter as it's so flexible. I definitely played a lot more aggressively than usual for this chapter. Couldn't have done it without meal and tonics. Broke the south west wall on turn 1 as well, Effie was ditched with a Javelin on the north eastern ballista. When Selena came I had her backing Effie, and they just took care of that side. Haikata and Silas took care of the axe users and Orobro. Corrin(+Mag/-Luk) paired with pally Jacob charged down the west side to Takumi. Got there by turn 5, but didn't manage to kill him before turn 7 as planned (missed a hit x'D). Had a 'oh sh!t' moment when the water went down lol, but it ended up alright. I was fortunate enough with stats, as she could one shot the generic enemies with the Dragonstone, and had a solid defence. Archer Mozu and Niles shot whoever needed to be shot, and manned the central ballista when necessary. It was challenging, but definitely not as hellish as I imagined it to be on Lunatic (expected a lot more fliers gunning for the tiles). Agreed, it does feel like Lunatic favour a aggressive approach more. I think there's more enemies compared to hard, sometimes it becomes a case of efficiently killing them before getting killed. And, yes! It really does lie about funds, which was why it's the first on the list of questions. I had a good +35k gold left by the end of the hard run and wasn't spending conservatively at all. In terms of kids, no plans yet to use them. If the first generation can manage like in Hard, I'll most likely not bother. I will be doing their prologues for the exp and goodies. The total number of units I'm planning to train up is about 14 (not including pass!falco, and Rallyman.) The definite units so far are: Corrin, Niles, Mozu, Camilla, Xander, Elise, Effie, Silas, Odin and Haitaka (10) For the last 4 spaces I've been thinking about using Leo as an alternative sorcerer (he could still get Vantage with an A+ support from Odin). Odin's strength growth on this run has been too good to ignore, he's going Swordmaster again. But ideally I'd still like to run a nostank this time round, because they sound useful for later chapters. Leo's the candidate. I've also been contemplating on Laslow as a Ninja (Sol+Lethality sounds interesting, and heard his growths as ninja is similar to Saizo's. Had a good time running two ninjas on my Val playthrough, so thinking about doing something similar.). Naturally Kaze and Keaton are up for consideration. Or maybe Selena as an extra bow knight/a second shurikenbreaker. (I know of the benefits of the Charlotte/Xander support, but don't like Fighter line. Never used a Berserker, never will. Willing to be pigheaded about this). So far so good for a first run. Looking forward to Ch17 (my fave ninja hell), not looking forward to Mr. Fuga's Wild Ride x'D
  5. Seth, Cormag, Tana, Gierk and Lute are generally quite reliable. If you're up for a little bit of babying, Ewan as a Druid, and Amelia a General. They are worth it imo.
  6. I'll concede the point, since I've never bothered with him. (Elixir isn't that much on an incentive) Can is really be considered harder though? The only reason I can imagine, for wanting to defeat Takumi, is to stop the DV on turn 7. Wouldn't that just make the last four turns easier? I might actually have to try it for myself and see what it's like. As for Odin, he's there mainly because of bias. In his defence, when I used him as a Swordmaster in my CQ and Valla hard playthroughs he's been very reliable at capping Str, Skill, Spd & Luck. Occasionally also getting enough Magic to use the Levin Sword well. Granted that Lunatic probably isn't the best mode to mess about too much, I was curious to see how he'd fare as a mage (so far, not good lol)
  7. Each to thier own good sir, there's plenty of tactics to beat Ch10. imo The only reason to ever kill Takumi is if you can't survive for 11 turns
  8. Thank you for the reply @joshcja. So far, the difficulty from Hard to Lunatic isn't as steep as I imagined famous last words Ch10 is round the corner, so that'll be a better indicator than the early chapters x'D. I quite like the fixed growth because there isn't a need to worry about missing out on good level ups if resets are needed. With Odin, he's been oddly consistent at growing str at the moment, so the plan is to keep him Dark Mage through Ch10 for the fire orb, and if he still isn't gaining any magic, he may as well go Samurai.
  9. Chill, and don't overwhelm yourself. Remember to turn enemy attack range on, and work out how attack and defence stance can benefit you. It's really okay to mess up in terms of tactics. Just learn from it, it's what soft-resets are for ;)
  10. Hey, Thought this is the best place to ask. I've been wanting to replay Conquest, and felt it was slightly pointless to do the same Hard Classic run again. However, I've never attempted a FE Lunatic run before, and would be really grateful to know what I'm going to be getting myself into x'D The things I'm concerned about are: Do you get the same amount of funds as Hard Mode? Is it better to plan out which units to use before starting - and are there any essential units? Would I need to rely on DLC and MyCastle for funds/exp/skills/classes? (Anything else I should know?) The other harder difficulties I've played before are Hector Normal Mode, and FE 12 Hard. Thank you for your time ;)
  11. Navarre, Joshua and Owain. Veteran was such a hard pick, since I really like Karel, Marisa, Zihark, and Stefan a lot too.
  12. Like many others, FE7 was my first
  13. Hi, does anyone have Mozu with Life and Death? Thank you!
  14. lol I'll take the bait messere Personality-wise, I do find Camilla refreshing, maybe it might be that I haven't come across her character type that much, but I do like how she can be so doting, yet so twisted at the same time. Default costume-wise, agreed, Camilla is way over the top. but at the very very least, I think it suits her characterization. In context with the art style in Fates, I feel like I can let it pass. I tend to notice her beautiful hair more than "them" anyway x'D Arguably, Kagero is worse than Camilla in the fanservice department. I can think of no justification for them. Sure, I get that it's practically mandatory for all ninja in Hoshido to have amazing cleavage, but does it really need to be overblown to the point of gag boobs?? She could have had a perfectly nice cleavage with normal sized ones but noooo >->;; And let's not get started with jiggle physics and some character models in Fates. I feel like there will always be some controversy with the fanservice in FE because of Awakening and Fates. A pity, since it used to be one of the few games series that had great female armour. Echoes looks as if it's more dialed down, I really like what art has been released so far. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
  15. Not a fan of the way Corrin is in Fates either. I guess, my dislike for Corrin comes more from how they're written into the plot, than actual their personality (if that makes any sense)
  16. It's not Camilla's fault. She's just drawn that way x'D I think she's great, and liked her a lot more than I thought I would. I always reclass her to Wyvern Lord asap too ;) Unit Takumi. And it's a really childish reason - I always feel like I'm forced to use him as the main Sniper because of Fujin Yumi, Dragon Veins and his personal skill >->;; F-- you Takumi honestly and truly. I can't even bench him out of spite because I love that bow too much. If I could, I'd give Fujin Yumi to Mozu. Leo. I really wanted to like him because of all the good things said about him. Maybe I've just been unlucky with RNG, or my play style isn't that good with DKs, but he always ends up falling short. I can't just ignore and bench him like Nyx since he's so central, so I want him on the team, but sometimes he ends up needing more babying than Elise >->. So I guess I dislike him a lot because out of all of the supposedly reliable units, he's the worst. Portrayal Corrin. Definitely one of the worst MUs, I feel sorry for the other characters sucked into this Mary Sue blackhole that is Corrin. I can't get over how (s)he can be so unrealistically naive, yet still have the world spinning around the choices they make. I just can't take Corrin seriously. Garon. eeeeh.... He's such a wasted oppertunity. Story-wise he's just the mandatory evil king. I wish they delved more into his relationship with Xander, and how his change impacted the Nohrian family. I could have been such a sad and tragic story but nope.
  17. Aching Blood - It's fun making up weapon names in the smithy x'D Capture - because Haitaka <3 <3 <3
  18. If you really don't want him to end in his default Adventurer, then Sniper is a good choice, especially if you don't plan to reclass Mozu into an Archer. It's a good idea to have at least one dedicated bow user on your team, and the options without a lot of heart sealing is Niles, Mozu or Corrin. When I did my Conquest run, I found Niles was incredibly useful as an Adventurer. He's great with the Shining Bow, can pick locks and act as a back up healer with staves. Nearer end game, I reclassed him to Bow Knight (looses staff utility, but that 9 mov + Pass is super helpful in its own way).
  19. I hate Canas in FE7. He's never good for me. Wyvern Lords > Paladins > Falco Knights I'm glad some of the petting was removed from Fates (Not to be a prude, but there's a time and place for everything. I could just play Tokimeki Memorials: Girl's Side if I wanted to pet digital men that badly lool) I like the My Castle part of Fates. It's a nice breather between chapters. Although I did it a lot in New Mystery, Awakening and now in Fates, I'm not a fan class changes, I think it ruins the uniqueness of units you get (but I do like unique skills, being able to mix skills, and some control over growths. There's too many advantages, but I don't have to like it. :/)

    Hello

I made the account in 2013, but had mostly just been lurking. It's nice finally say "hi". Never too late right? x'D This series is the only reason I own a 3DS and still kept my old DS (for Sacred Stones. My poor FE7 cartridge doesn't hold saves anymore ;~;) I've completed almost all of the other localised games apart from Radiant Dawn and Shadow Dragon, and also the fan-localisation of New Mystery of the Emblem. At the moment I've finally gotten around to FE:Fates, and started with Conquest. I like it better than Awakening so far, as class changing is much better balanced and some of the maps have been very fun. Anyway, I hope to be more active and get to know more people on the forum :)
