  1. It just seems really high to me. It's like 90k to raise a single country to max, and there are five of them, and the benefits for doing so seem like they aren't worth it. Why should I upgrade countries in the post games besides simply doing it for completion sake?

  3. It feels like they wanted to make a old school non-grindy linear Fire Emblem but they had to phone in the features or the fans would complain. So they made it as useless as possible. Frankly I kinda like the super hard skirmishes. They're fun to play. Way better than the skirmishes in three houses or awakening. The awards are pitiful however. Especially gold. I don't understand how they expect us to pay for all the donations in this game. Do you even get 400k gold over the course of the campaign. I reckon you maybe get about 100.
  4. Yeah I agree the post game really doesn't appeal much to me as it is. Just seems to me like everyone is focusing on skirmishes for grinding up materials and levels, and well yeah those are probably the most "fun" way to do it. But I'm trying to imagine what way is the fastest? Since you actually have to think about the skirmishes and they are hard they take me about 30 minutes or so to complete one. I think arena abuse might edge out to be slightly faster. Same with gold farming, could farm out encounters for paltry amounts of gold. Or could use wyvern riding and sell the useless items you get. Frankly I think if you've got the online membership picking up drops and selling those is the best way to grind gold. For Exp I think for any really low level units you want to raise up doing the arena until they can hold their own in a skirmish is probably the best way. Regardless I'll probably not bother with the post game much and just start a new file.
  5. Is a fell dragon not simply a "fallen dragon". As in they decided to be evil at some point and "fell to the dark side" so to speak. As opposed to the good dragons. Kinda like how the Wicked Witch of the West is a bad witch but Glinda is a good witch and the only real difference between them is that and the whole aversion to baths thing (which probably is a consequence of being evil for too long).
  6. What about arena abuse? The Arena gives you Exp win or lose. And you can reset it by doing a tempest trial. Just do a level one tempest trial auto battle the first map, leave on the second and arena will be reset.
  7. Yeah agreed. I'm guessing a lot of this was due to memory restraints. It's similar to how link to the past dark world was basically a smart trick they used to double the size of the game without actually having to program in a new map. But it definitely could have done with some more variety in book 2. I imagine that with the two books together the game was already pretty big for the time. It's interesting they decided to include a remake of the first fire emblem so early in the series. I can't think of many NES games that got SNES remakes besides Mario All Stars. (And well Ninja Gaiden/ and Tetris/Dr Mario) Maybe they wanted to make the game longer but cut significantly on development time? Or maybe they figured that as a late NES game many customers hadn't played the original by the time the SNES one came out. Dunno. I think that generally speaking, the map design in Fe1 is way better than it should be. Especially when we look at the map design of Gaiden, and even FE3 book 2 new maps. I wonder if a lot of the development time of the first game was spent on designing the maps? Seems like Fire Emblem map design is one of those things where it's hard to actually design one that's fun and interesting.
  8. I'm not totally sure but afaik it increases the drops and possibly gives you more sparkly bits. I invested to level 3 in Brodia for this but honestly didn't really notice much change. Personally I say the go to for metals is, get five dogs, seems the black ones give silver more often but that might just be me, but get dogs, collect after each battle, then you can trade the silver ingots for steel or iron when needed. No need to bother with skirmishes imho. Silver trades to iron at 1 to 100 I think. So getting even one or two silvers in the ranch is way faster than doing skirmishes. If you wanna grind it, just go to the tower do a super easy level one tempest trial auto battle the first map quit on the second and everything should reset. You might not even have to finish the first battle. This will be the way I'll grind for forge material if I ever feel the need. 5 dogs, quick tempest trial exit, rinse repeat. Way faster than doing it the way you are supposed to. Also I think if you ever want to grind gold doing the Wyvern shooting mini game is maybe the fastest way. You'll get some basic items with that you can sell and doing a round of it should net you about 1000g worth of items. Again seems a lot faster than doing skirmishes. Though the thought of grinding wyvern battles 90+ times to invest gold in a country is not something that appeals to me so I probably won't bother. It does seem like it's potentially the fastest way to do so and also will avoid the level scaling skirmish issue.
  9. I mean the boss was cool right? Pretty much all the removed chapters were very much "filler". There's that one field one with the huge lake. Barely remembered. I guess it had the first arena. You don't wanna go in the arena in FE3 though unless you cheat. Pyrathi was a bit of a loss but again map isn't that memorable besides the boss. Then I think the other three that got cut were, the ballista level, which was pretty memorable I think so that was a shame. The bridge, which is in book 2 from the opposite direction. Was fun I guess but it was kinda just a defense map where you hunkered down in the middle and hoped for a reprieve of the reinforcements. Then I think it was that open field / forest level with loads of dragon knights coming at you. Which I barely remember. I think it's in part 2 as chapter 2 perhaps? I guess you can dig FE3 B1 for not being the complete experience, but I do think it's a great improvement over the original game. The original is fun and all but Fire Emblem is a series where better technology makes the games way more enjoyable to play. For that matter Shadow Dragon on the DS is easily the definitive edition of this. And wholely supplants the NES original imho, as well as Book 1. New Mystery I don't like as much and I think the SNES original is different enough from it that it's worth a go. New Mystery had lower deployment slots and there were way too many recruitable characters to the point it kind of got silly. That said it does benefit greatly from technology advancements. FE3 is admittedly a very old game. And it's nowhere near as approachable as the remakes. It's a real shame they didn't just remake book 2 on the same cartridge as shadow dragon while keeping it more or less in line with how Shadow Dragon improved on the original without fundamentally changing a bunch of stuff.
  10. I think that could work. Might be kind of hard to utilize in a good way though if it removes characters from being active in battle. Perhaps something akin to Final Fantasy 7's "materia" system might be workable where your equips level up on their own and can be swapped around. Lore wise I think you could do something like, have a small pantheon of various gods who've sealed their power in dragon stones or something like that.
  11. So I see emblems as this games evolution of the "pair up" mechanic we've had from Awakening. From a gameplay standpoint it's by far the best implementation of this gimmick. So I'd like to see it developed further. I think the magic ring idea works, doesn't necessarily have to have any sort of character attached to it, could just be based on unit class. And maybe the unit has a skill in it that grows with use.
  12. Don't think so. You do seem to get some decent unique weapons from it at higher levels but, the gold needed is insane and I don't think it's worth dumping like 90k gold when you can just forge stuff instead. Was going to say it might be worth it to do the first level. Then you can adopt the animals, but the animals you can adopt aren't dogs and they're the only ones that matter. Looking at the reward list, seems to me it's basically a waste to invest any money in it at all. Maybe in post game when you're just doing skirmishes it's worth it when you've got nothing else to spend money on.
  13. I think book one is a huge improvement over the NES original but yes about five chapters are missing. They weren't particularly memorable ones, except maybe the ballista chapter. Technically one of the removed chapters sorta appears in book two. At least the map does, though you go at it from the opposite direction. It's a real shame they didn't release book two along with book one on the same DS cartridge. I think Shadow Dragon is a pretty excellent remake but New Mystery was the start of a lot of the annoyances that plague later games and it kinda hurts a lot of the tension of the original. Book one of Mystery is more or less the NES game just better, but book two is legit one of the best games in the series. The map design is tight, it's really cool how they managed to fit in various "clear conditions" in a game where it's only seize. That middle bit where you gotta run from the encroaching army is great. Unfortunately the story is really bad and is basically a collector mcguffin quest where everyone just cedes their kingdom to Marth because.hes the protagonist. Which is a shame because for what it was the original had a pretty tight story.
  14. I found Lyn's paralogue to be quite easy though I held off on doing it until after I had leveled up Lyn to max bond so around, chapter 18 or so. It definitely made me think it was gonna be a rough map looking at it but I was able to slow roll it baiting out enemies one by one. Hardest map so far for me was probably chapter 10. Also shout out goes to a random skirmish on the bridge level filled with dragon knights.
  15. Louis and Sigurd act one was a beast. Insane movement armor Knight with Kanto. Yunaka and Micah surprisingly also worked out pretty well as a way to gain loads of levels healing so that after she lost the staff I still kept her around as a damage unit. Afterwards with Lyn because I felt like it. It's pretty fun to spam the clones. And the killer bow is nice for the occasional flyer. Surprisingly working kinda well is Ike+Anna. Wasn't expecting much but the defense and axe accuracy increase really helped out and now can comfortably send her in charge great Aeather and heal/kill at the start of the player phase.
  16. Yeah I feel mine is also not great. My calvary rarely turns out well though. I think for me my best is by far the protagonist but that doesn't really count. Yunaka after that maybe. Chloe also turned out really good. Worst is probably Anna. Have her stay as a warrior and she's gotten way better but needed babying. She's doing a lot better after giving her the Ike ring so she might surpass Alfred in usefulness soon. Shout-out should go to Etie as well she sucks in direct combat but I got a +1 range skill bond ring and that plus long bow makes here a competent sniper of anything and everything but especially flyers. Just gotta keep her with an escort.
  17. I think a lot of characters in Awakening got their personalities changed around a bit in the localization. Personally I prefer it overall since it makes them more memorable imho. But it's not like I care about the characters or story in that game to begin with though. Just a lot of the complaining around the localization to me seems like nitpicks on how it was localized rather than actually pointing out overt changes or mistakes. Happens a lot online. I remember with Breath of the Wild there was this rumor going around that the English localization totally changed the game because it switched the quest log from 1st person in Japanese to 2nd person in English, which is not entirely wrong, but doesn't really change the character of the game, because it's just a quirk of grammar, mostly stemming from the fact that English needs an overt subject to not sound terrible. And Japanese doesn't. So the English localization has to pick a tone and stick with it for the whole game while the Japanese quest log can just leave out a subject the whole game and be more or less perfectly understandable. Is it first person or second person? Depends on interpretation. Is the tone basically exactly the same as the English version? Yes.
  18. I don't think so. There's some good skills to be had by some of the S class rings. It's just a pain to get them cause its random. But the lack of any new game plus is troubling. Enjoying the game so far but it seems like it's pretty hard to get decent amounts of gold or attribute spheres or whatever they are called in a reasonable amount of time. Not sure trials and skirmishes will hold my interest and I'd just assume start a new playthrough instead. So far while the main game is quite tight a lot of the side stuff feels extremely grindy. Like it's gonna take an hour to go through the trials to get a few crystals to upgrade the engage weapons. Why bother when I can just forge normal weapons? I did find if you just turn down the trial difficulty to 1 you can just auto battle skip it to the end to get the rewards. And it's much faster than actually playing it on the higher difficulties for more rewards. Now it's not fun at all but that's basically how to grind it. You could potentially autoskip through a trial, go use the arena to get free exp. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum. But why bother since it's not much fun. I think most of my "post game content" is going to be various challenge runs on a fresh save. Trial tower multiplayer intrigues me somewhat but seems rather boring tbh without any kind of real PVP. Skirmishes and whatever the non-internet trial is just seem like boring free for all blitz maps for the most part.

Wasn't a problem for stuff like Game of Thrones but I'm guessing they want to try to keep the game rating as close to all ages as possible and if changing one or two lines of dialogue is the difference between a T and an M rating that justifies the increased sales most likely. Personally I'd rather see the the series pivot away from the very fan service style of anime inspiration and go back to the more serious fantasy settings of say, Mystery of the Emblem, or Tellius. But I think once they banked in on the Moe Moe Kyu side of the otaku fan base they basically have it where that's the cash cow. I think most of the complaints about how the localization changed things tends to basically go down the path of people online nitpicking things, especially these days where if you don't like the English translation for whatever reason you can switch to Japanese from the menu. Awakening and before basically nobody complained much about translation changes. I guess twitter wasn't really a thing yet. Awakening changed a bunch of stuff in the localization, sort of , you had stuff like "Chrom's Mercenary Group" getting changed to "Shepherds" and what not to try to spice up an already bland script which imho was a big improvement over the Japanese version. Especially since Awakening was already so light in the script department compared to the Tellius games. Or even the GBA games. Shadow Dragon also got a fairly hefty script rewrite but it was mostly excellent. Japanese version basically used a modified SNES script but the English version really did a lot with word choice to make it sound more refined. I think they want to avoid big words nowadays cause I guess they think that it lessens the sales potential? Makes the game seem less approachable. This script just feels very simple and childish. I don't think we'll be seeing words like "suzerain" appear much in the future titles.

  21. I'd say work your way backwards. It's far easier to deal with the older mechanics that way. Going from Awakening to Path of Radiance isn't so bad. Going from Awakening to Mystery of the Emblem is going to he a bit of generation shock. It's going to be far easier to cut your teeth on the GBA titles before you go into the SNES ones. Biggest issues with the oldest games are UI and not being able to skip turns. The UI isn't that big of a deal once you know how mechanics work but it's hard to jump into and have fun when you're expecting a battle forecast and the game expects you to make your own from the raw stats. Its not hard to do but it's pretty easy to play the newer games and never think about how the damage is calculated since the game tells you ahead of time what it will be.
  22. Weapon durability seems to be a disappearing mechanic from games these days. I think it's fine if they put in a bunch of unique weapon effects and downsides so that the choice is more tactical than simply "choose best sword". Frankly with how the forging works in three houses let's you repair weapons I basically never payed attention to the durability there.
  23. Definitely, but it's a big ring in a game about rings. The symbolism is a bit heavy handed. I'm pretty partial on weird shaped world maps if they've got some good world building going on, like this might be fun on a flat earth type situation where you got islands in the middle, ocean around that, land on the rim for some cool fantasy backgrounds with the edge of the world and whatnot. But I doubt they'll do something so interesting. Hopefully the campaign isn't something like, go around in a big circle. Would kind of kill political intrigue or war stories. Might work as an hero's journey anime plot which is what they seem to be going for i think. Got massive shonen vibes from this looks like they lifted the worldmap from One Piece or something.
  24. I'm of the same mind. The main gameplay hook of equipping the spirits of over game heroes seems like a pointless gimmick. Might not be the worst game ever if the rest is up to snuff but that trailer doesn't give me any excitement for or desire to play it. It just seems like a super generic modern Fire Emblem of the Awakening vein. I'm not sure how the past hero spirit thing is going to work beyond just being a fancy stat boost equip system or a weird variation of the pair up system where instead of pair up = win they've just given you a bunch of ghost characters to pair up with. But if it's just a gimmick then meh, every game seems to need a gimmick. I think I liked three houses a lot because the whole academy student gimmick worked well with the black slate make your own units customized however you want gameplay. It's not as tight as past games because of it but it's more fun than anything else they've made since Wii. I don't get why they don't do a more involved gimmick like, branching story trees. I'd be down for a game where each map gives you two differing objectives where you can only choose one and it changes the story completely via branching paths. Would probably require a lot of development time but I'd be happier I think with a short 10 chapter campaign if there were enough permutations of the route and unique maps to hit the same quantity of a full game vs a normalish 40 chapter campaign or so. That's my preference though. I think most of the players these days are in it for the social elements which I don't really get. I know Three Houses got praised for the Tea Parties but I have no clue why. They were like the most boring and pointless mini game I've ever seen.
