  1. I know there are a lot of threads that go in detail about the best classes for characters, but I have not seen one that compares the optimal non-DLC classes vs the optimal DLC classes for certain characters. Can you guys list me all the characters you know of in the BIrthright campaign (because that's the one that I'm playing right now) that are significantly better with a DLC class over their most optimal non-DLC class? (Example: Azama is much better with Dread Fighter than his most optimal non-DLC class, Merchant)
  2. So, having just finished Conquest on Hard, I'm having a dilemma. Birthright is easier, at least from what I've hear from literally everyone I know playing Fates. Furthermore, grinding is possible. Supposedly, Revelation is between the two in terms of difficulty. Seeing as there's no Lunatic+ to unlock, and I've heard that Fates' Lunatic mode isn't the totally and completely idiotic and non-strategic RNGfest Awakening's lunatic/lunatic+ was, I'm wondering whether to play Birthright on Hard or Lunatic mode. My concern is that I intend to play Revelation on Hard mode because Hard mode doesn't lock your stat growths at mission start, and I want to use my Revelation playthrough for PvP later on (which means locked growths would make stat-capping awful grindy and tedious). If I play Lunatic Birthright, will Revelation on Hard be boringly easy? Thanks in advance for opinions and input, I'd appreciate someone whose already done this weighing as well.
  3. So for my MU, I wanted a more defensive approach with my skills. I know Hoshido Nobles have really good defense caps to begin with but I still want to play it defensively. I currently have Pavise, Aegis, Counter and Countermagic as my skills along with Lethality, Is there any better setup I could use or is this decent? On a side note, I don't remember exactly what Boon and Bane I chose but I think it might have been Clever and Unlucky.
  4. Hello, everyone! This is exactly what the title says, I've been wanting to try a PMU run for a while now. The endgame allows for the avatar + 15 other units so that's how many I need. You can pick the avatar's asset/flaw, secondary class, and ending class. Any ending class works for everyone else too as long as they don't have to marry anyone for it. I also have all of the DLC to date so have fun with that! I'll be liveblogging my progress here once I know who my team's going to be. Team: 1. +Magic/-Luck Sorcerer!Avatar 2. Kinshi Knight!Reina 3. Master of Arms!Hana 4. Spear Master!Hinoka 5. Priestess!Sakura 6. Merchant!Oboro 7. Blacksmith!Rinkah 8. Onmyoji!Kaden 9. Sniper!Kagero 10. Mechanist!Setsuna 11. Merchant!Orochi 12. Basara!Takumi 13. Vanguard!Hinata 14. Kinshi Knight! Ryoma 15. Hero!Silas 16. Onmyoji!Azama I'm going to need a lot of heart seals. This should be interesting!
  5. One of my favourite things about Awakening was the support system. Out of Birthright and Conquest, I'm more interested in trying Conquest because of the difficulty, more varied objectives and story. However, I've also seen Birthright described as far more centred on the support system, because of its grinding and its smaller difficulty allowing more freedom in who you pair. I don't care if the support system's better in Birthright (I'll be getting both eventually) but I'm hoping it's at least still a central part of the game in Conquest, as some reviews indicate Conquest is far more gameplay-focused. Basically, are the support system and story still a significant part of Conquest, or do they take a massive backseat to the strategy part of the game?
  6. I am at the endgame for Birthright. I randomly looked at the Fates Birthright recruitment page on the main site and noticed that if Corrin didn't have an A support with Kaze, he would have left the party! I can't believe that I saved myself from that without knowing I had to support the two. O_O Would Kaze have fallen to his death if Corrin didn't have an A support with him? That's horrible! Btw, expect a Birthright plot analysis from me once I find the time to clear the Birthright endgame.
  7. Hey guys. Right now, I'm at chapter 20 of Revelations, and I have three complaints about the three games so far. 1. As of right now, I just don't see the point of Revelations. All of the maps are gimmicky and repetitive, there are too many damn units being recruited at once (chapter 16 and 17 are the worst offenders), and the balance is simply horrendous (Nyx (lv. 9 Dark Mage) and Shura (lv. 10 Adventurer) joining you in the same chapter is hilarious). Story wise, it may make sense, but gameplay-wise, Revelations is a mess. I think it shouldn't have been a game by itself, instead, the developers should have worked harder on Birthright and Conquest (especially the former which had so many filler chapters). They could have added plot elements of Revelation as paralogues or as the final chapters of the game, kinda like Sacred Stones. 2. I don't like the fact that maps are re-used between the three games. It feels like a cheap quick cash-grab. The developers could have had different maps for the three games OR simply sell the whole thing as one game (with two paths). 3. Children are useless gimmicks, story-wise, they are simply not justified. They're only there because it worked well in Awakening, here, it feels so random and out of place. Overall, I think that Fates shoud have been sold as one game with branching paths. What do you guys think? Do you agree with these points?
  8. I know there is probably plenty of topics on this, but fuck it. Im on my second play through of birthright and I was in need of some help with getting the best child units (especially midori) Here is what I have been thinking: Hana/Silas Hinoka/Subaki Sakura/Hayato (I did this in my last playthrough and I was satisfied with how Rhajat came out since her magic was rather high) Kaze/Mozu (I dont know what I should reclass Mozu into...maybe a basara?) My male avatar/Azura (I made my talent Samurai since maybe making Azura a samurai but Im guessing that was a horrible idea. Im not planning on using Shigure at all) Orochi/Azama Now here is the one im a bit stuck on...Selkie's mother. I've seen people say hana, kagerou, or setsuna but since I'm planning on making hana Sophie's mother im stuck. Are there better options then setsuna and kagerou or which one of those two are best for her? Im rather new to this kind of thing. Then the rest of kids I haven't thought about yet Thank you :)
  9. Yay, I just finished Birthright Lunatic after giving up on Endgame Conquest Lunatic, and it was a very fun, very balanced ride in my opinion. I didn't find myself needing to use grinding for either gold or experience much, but was happy to be able to go back and catch some units up for their children. Plot Thoughts: Invasions and Nohr? *I was under the impression that a lot of the game would be about defending Hoshido from invaders, but from like Chapter 11-on the focus of the game seemed to be invading the shit out of Nohr. Looking at both Conquest and Birthright, I get the impression that Nohr is a completely ineffective and weak nation. The escape Xander and Garon level was the only one that came close to making them feel like a force to be reckoned with. Siblings * I was very pleased with the characterization of the Nohr siblings. You really get the sense that they love you and feel betrayed, and the battles you have with them are quite epic. Camilla, Elise, and Leo stood out to me as well-written compared to the way they act on Conquest. Unfortunately, this seems to come across at the expense of the Hoshido siblings who just seemed to talk about what was going on or where we were headed instead of having really fleshed-out personalities to me. Sakura likes to heal people and gets scared a lot. Hinoka likes trash talking even though her stats barely back it up. The reveal of Ryoma in Cheve felt completely random and poorly plotted to me. I could have used more character development/scenes for Xander but he was built up as a total badass! They were supposed to be my allies and close family, but I didn't feel like I got much of anything in the scenes and dialogue I saw. Takumi's "betrayal" could have been foreshadowed better or maybe just more utilized? Something like a recurring murder mystery subplot where a couple named looks or allies get hurt or outright murdered and we can't find the culprit? The only thing that stood out to me amongst the Hoshidan Siblings were the kindnesses and sympathies they seemed to have in certain situations like upon Elise's death. Their bond with Azura also felt very palpable. Villains * I didn't feel like Garon made enough appearances to really feel like the main villain, but I guess we learned everything we needed to learn about him in the early choice chapters. I understood that they kept some details hidden for both Conquest and Revelations, but one or two lines hinting that he was no longer human or of his motives would have been helpful. I guess I liked when he threatened Iago, more of that would have been fun to watch. *Iago in this path actually seemed like he was trying to do harm and got away with it, but the execution was still way off. Again, it made no sense to reveal Takumi as the traitor without him genuinely having done something awful or violent. Iago begging for mercy only to be killed by Leo felt silly to me as well. There was no reason for Leo to step in there when Corrin and co. had the situation under control. Hans is almost irrelevant in this path, but his killing Lilith generally seemed like a better writing choice than a random Faceless. Supporting Villains *There were some generally shocking twists like Flora's betrayal. I guess Zola's involvement in the plot was handled better, too. Hoshido felt like it had more supporting characters. And the leadup to Azura's song wasn't a travesty of logic like it is in Conquest. Azura *I liked Azura's involvement in the plot much better than in Conquest. She's still enigmatic for no reason and only as helpful as the plot demands, but at least her song saw some freaking use and got explained. I think you get to hear it like 5-7 times over the course of the game--now that's how you use a theme song. In Nohr she sings like maybe twice and barely at all after the dance cutscene. There was absolutely no reason her dissolving cutscene couldn't have been featured in Nohr. She only walks offstage in the Conquest endgame because they did such a poor job at explaining her powers and importance to the plot. Granted, she had a few too many damsel in distress moments for my liking, but she felt central to the plot in Hoshido! On Female characters ***I haven't played any other Fire Emblem games beyond Awakening, but Birthright certainly felt like a horrible place to be a woman. Between Azura, Mikoto, Elise, Flora, and Lilith, the game felt like a series of Women in Refrigerators. I get that a lot of this deathtoll is shared between versions, but it felt higher and more "bloody" than usual to me. Gameplay Thoughts: The only chapters I found difficult enough to warrant multiple resets were: Chapter 9: Land of Gods * Only because my ranged units were still pretty squishy and I couldn't take my time because Hinata kept getting slaughtered before I could recruit him and Oboro. I eventually aced this chapter and have to thank it for really forcing me to learn the nuances of guard and attack stance. Bringing along a bunch of extra healers helped, too, though I regret missing one of the chests. Chapter 13: Another Hope * At this point in the game, you have a bunch of strong units who can kill fliers and cavaliers and knights no problem, but it really helps to know where the enemy AI will drag them because if too many swarm you you're screwed. I mostly reset because I wanted to get all the village items. Kagero and Saizo were invaluable at getting them for me. It really helps that you can plan your movement in such a way that Camilla can be baited before her minions and Hans can get dragon veined before you fight him, though it's not at all necessary to kite too much. Besides the thieves, only the promoted armored units were troublesome when they started lumbering over. I had fun reclassing Corrin to a magical class for that. Chapter 23: Camilla *A lot of people like to talk about the difficulty spike in this chapter. Between the infinite Dragon Vein Chip Damage, the narrow corridors, and the reinforcements, it's easy to get screwed. I got through it by putting my tanker characters in one corridor to clear while my weaker ones fell back and drew Camilla's fire. Putting my strength-blessed Sakura into Priestess and giving her a Bow ended up being a great investment here. Camilla and her retainers themselves weren't too difficult upon being kited. Ryoma, Dark Flier Caeldori, and Oboro were all-stars here! Chapter 25: Traitor Revealed *I think this one took more resets than Chapter 10 on Conquest Hard did for me. The opening reinforcements are just completely brutal--a waking nightmare if you're not prepared! I think there are like 3-4 waves on each side of Great Knights, Dark Knights, Paladins, and Bow Knights. It's the most ridiculous thing I've seen in awhile! Especially when you consider the lack of reinforcements in Chapter 27. Shigure with a Beast Killer, Silas, Ryoma, and Caeldori's Galeforce really saved the day. I had some trouble with the Fortify Strategists at first until I realized they could be baited out, and didn't always just use their staves. The Dragon Vein in the middle is so absurdly good, it made me question its presence. Where I made things close to impossible for myself was trying to give Takumi the kill on Iago for the special dialogue. Iago's Bowbreaker and Vengeance made that a very poor choice. Chapter 27: This Chapter wasn't hard or scary after I realized that Garon wouldn't have any reinforcements coming for you. Takumi with a Spy Yumi was invaluable in eliminating his Maid and General minions a 3-range. I was a little disappointed that there weren't any reinforcements at first, but after Chapter 25 I was grateful for it.
  10. When I first played Conquest and later played through Revelations, I found myself liking characters that I didn't really pay too much attention to originally. An example of this would be Shura. At first he seemed pretty.. meh to me, but I ended up liking his supports with Corrin, and the fact he is a very useful archer/healer right off the bat when you get him. Another would be Felicia. I didn't care for her at all but she kind of grew on me the more I played the game. Anyone else find a character that surprised you enough to be likable?
  11. So, yesterday, I was going through Birthright's Chapter 25: Traitor Revealed on Lunatic. I had just battled for over an hour with effective use of three distinct teams: one specializing in tanking physical hits, another specializing in tanking magical hits, and the final one lending support via healing/damage reduction skills/picking off stragglers. It was marvelous to see everything working so smoothly, but then something terrible happened. Here goes: After clearing all enemy reinforcements with said tactics, I began moving up towards the boss, cautiously. I was particularly careful to stay out of the staff areas of the strategists with the entrap staves. To that end, I counted spaces to allow Hinoka a dance boost to the Dragon Vein to remove enemy equipment in the middle room; right afterward, I used rescue to get her back to safety, out of range of the last entrap strategists. I gathered everyone toward the left side of the middle room and gradually took out the sage on the turret. Then I decided to try out the silence staff with Sakura to neutralize entrap while I removed a berserker on the steps. The staff worked with 92% hit, and I danced her out of range of the berserker. I then set my character unit up to bait: paired up with Great Knight Silas, holding dragonstone+, defense rally, and speed rally. I ended the turn... And the game crashed on me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 3/10/16: I may have actually stumbled upon a nasty bug in game. It happened again under very similar conditions. As for what exactly causes this crash, I can't say for sure at this point; but it's not a random one-off thing. Well, I wanted a bit of a challenge on this lunatic run, but I guess I'll grind some levels now so I can muscle through and find the true cause of the game crashing. If anyone has any more information/experience; please share what you know, so that others can avoid this problem in the future. Update 4/1/16: I reproduced the bug a third time. 1) After clearing all of the reinforcements (around 20 turns or so), activate the Dragon Vein in the center to clear enemy equipment. 2) Rescue the unit used for the DV. 3) Neutralize the turret sage but no one else affected by the DV. 4) Proceed to neutralize the Strategist with 2 Entrap staves. 5) Rescue the unit who neutralized the Strategist. On the next turn, the game freezes. It probably has to do with aggravating the mobs around Iago. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does anyone else have Fates' horror stories of game breaking bugs/mechanics or any other kind of circumstance, e.g. kami(神)->batsu(罰), that cost them the win... right at the end?
  12. I've seen a question on Miiverse asking about how having both games as physical copies would affect your gameplay in any way. Such as anyone being able to access a "Branch of Fate" from Conquest while having beaten the game on Birthright, or vice-versa. In that discussion linked in the URL seen here, I see someone saying that it's possible. But is it really? As soon as I saw that statement, this has been kinda bugging me. Any insight on whether anything would carry over from physical copies or not?
  13. With the new wave of DLC being announced for Japan and I think there is one more wave after it, it got me thinking on something. What would you think if they added a sort of Boss Rush where you face off against all bosses from previous games and fates in a row? I think it could be an interesting challenge for them to do. Perhaps only a small group of units could do the challenge to make it even more difficult? Rewards could be a new class, or something like an Ultimate Emblem or even a powerful skill. Be really cool to fight all the bosses with the amiibo characters at my side. Lords of FE, unite!
  14. Either gameplay wise or story wise. I'll start. Chapter 25 of Conquest, when you duel with Ryoma. He was doubling me and beating me down with an Astra trigger and a crit but I managed to trigger Dragonfang and get a 4% chance crit with a 60% chance to hit. An epic way to defeat my own brother after getting whupped for a while. Killing all those Kitsune bastards in Chapter 19. I don't care if people hate Corrin for that, what he did was a favor to humanity to save them from those Illusion/pass/dodging abominations. Finally I'd have to say when you fight Hinoka for the final time. The cutscene occuring during my end phase just got me pumped up for some reason. Was a tough chapter though because of the hexing rod, surprisingly strong mages and wave after wave of fliers coming at you. The music was also mood enhancing for that entire chapter.
  15. Right now I'm on chapter 23ish of Birthright (So, spoiler: I'm well into Nohr and have visited the underground part of Nohr's capital), and 17ish of Conquest (So, spoiler: I'm just beginning to invade Hoshido). I thought, given that the premise of Birthright is that you defend Hoshido against the invading Nohr, and in conquest you fight to restore Nohr from within, that Birthright would put more emphasis on learning about Hoshido and Conquest would put more emphasis on learning about Nohr. It could just be that I'm behind on Conquest compared to Birthright, but I seem to be learning more about life in Nohr and Nohr's motivations from playing Birthright than from playing Conquest. Is this genuinely the case? Or is it simply that I'm further in Birthright than in Conquest?
  16. Now that Fates is out what Version/Versions did you decide to get. (Birthright, Conquest, Revelation)
  17. Finally got a copy of Birthright yesterday (I'm fighting so hard to not spell it "birthday" on accident XD). I put it off for a bit because of life and I thought that, gameplay-wise, it would be similar to Awakening. Boy, was I WRONG! While the core mechanic of the gameplay hasn't changed much (it's a strategy game. What are you gonna do?), the difficulty level is INSANE!! Just like Awakening, I'm playing on Hard/Casual because I don't want this to be easy or lose my units. Well....it's not easy, so I got that wish granted... Let's start at the beginning of my run through so far. The starting chapter shows you the units in the game from both sides. I think that's a nice touch, now you can get to know the people you're about to kill! Quick battle intro and stuff happens, then you're brought to a fortress pillar for the first chapter where you train against Xander. ...Couldn't they have just put all this in one chapter or something? Chapter 2 begins afterward and I now have Gunter and Felicia fighting some people from Hoshido (Rinka and Kaze) I swear, these names are not easy to remember... Anyway, that's done and Chapter 3 begins and here's where things really start to get difficult. Three paths are set before me, the bridge to the north and two Dragon Vein bridges to the south. I decided to go to the Vein bridge in the middle. ...Nope. All units dead. Then I decide "Okay, let's not take a shortcut and decide to train." Bad idea. All units dead again! Going with the south-most bridge this time. Reinforcements?! REALLY? ...Alright, fourth try, here we go. Yes! FINALLY! ...Gunter, nooooooooooooo! Chapter 4 was relatively easy, as all the enemies headed north toward Hinoka and Sakura (sensing a Japanese theme here...). Ryoma makes quick work of the enemies and I was able to get to the two girls easily. Mission complete! Now for the chapter I'm currently on. Chapter 5. Wait......... my mom dies?! This game just keeps getting better.... Anyway, I'm now a dragon and EVERY STINKING ENEMY on the map is effective against me. Wyrmslayers, thunder magic... My units are terrible for some reason as they can only do 2-5 damage at one time whereas the enemy can do, like, 12. I'm the only one who can do any significant damage, but that goes both ways. To make matters worse, Ryoma is down at the bottom taking care of the boss and he goes down in two hits! It's like the game threw every challenge my way and expects me to live through it! I can't abuse Azura or Sakura because they're only level 1, and Rinka and Kaze go down just as easily. If only Felicia didn't keep dying back in Ch. 3 so I could train more, but that would've still only meant *I* have to do all the work. Is this level even possible? I was told Birthright is easier than Conquest (my brothers are screwed, then XD), but this is insane! Forget this. I'll go back to playing Awakening and training up for Apotheosis. At least I know I'll clear that map some day... EDIT: Changed topic title. Need any help? Ask for some here! EDIT2: Dun goofed the tags
  18. Just thought I'd ask everyone what steward they use for their castle, since there is a surprising amount of options. On conquest's side at least you have Jakob, Flora, Felicia and Gunter. Then you have all the generic Nohrian units and.. a Faceless, of all things. Who I imagine is named Roberto. Who do you use as your castle steward? Did you wish that they would let you use more named characters for it aside from those four? I'm torn between Flora, Felicia and a Faceless myself. Felicia has kind of grown on me, Flora seems like an interesting choice and a Faceless is a faceless so it is automatically hilarious to have one as a personal servant that maintains the castle.
  19. For Fates, I currently have 83:27 on my Activity Log, which is quite a lot for a mere seven times played. The average play time I have is about eleven hours-which is more than double the second place software's average time. Personally, I probably could have done more if it weren't for my job and it's rather ridiculous scheduling times, although I did manage to beat Birthright in the first week, at least. What about you guys? How much have you played Fates this past week?
  20. Hi everyone! I've treaded on Serene's Forest for a long time, but I just recently made an account and will now make my first post! I need help with my Birthright pairings, I have confidence in some, while others I feel are just leftover characters matched together. Any type of criticism is welcome, as long as it is justified. So let's cut to the chase: MU(Male)xScarlet SakuraxHayato RyomaxKagerou AzuraxKaden SilasxHinoka TakumixOboro (this is where I have low confidence) JakobxOrochi SetsunaxHinata AzamaxHana SaizoxMozu Any and all help is greatly appreciated, and if you took time to look at this and critique it, thank you in advance!
  21. I realised that there has not been a proper marriage poll yet, so I decided to make one. Whom did you marry your MU to? Which route(s)? Why did you pick that character? Which marriage was your favourite (if you married more than one character)?
  22. Hey guys, I was hoping that the Fates community here might be able to help me come to a decision regarding Kanna. I would like my M!Kanna (Manna) to be able to use the dragonstone regularly since his personal skill relies on it and since the dragonstone depends on magic I thought that it would only be logical to make a Manna who is more magically inclined for offence and who has really good defence to balance out the perks/penalties issued from the dragonstones. To do this I was hoping to marry: Femui +MAG/-LCK: -1/3/0/2/-3/0/2 To Rinkah!Ignis ... Rinkah!Ignis: 0/1/-1/-1/1/6/2 To get a Manna with these mods... Ignis!Manna: 0/5/0/2/1/7/4 Does this look ok for a Manna that will utilise the dragonstone more? Upon saying this, I have other questions... Would this waste my Femui's potential? Seeing that magic (and dragonstone) has been nerfed in this game and taking into account how amazing Yato is, would my Femui be wasted? Of course, upon saying this, I can still use Yato with my Dark Blood Femui, however with this set up she will have a magic bias and would not be as effective with it. Would it be better to give up on the dragon Manna and go for a more physical Ignis!Manna? Ignis Manna with +STR/-LCK mother: 4/1/2/0/-1/9/3 For those who have played the game ... How does a physical Kanna perform compared to a magical or dragonstone based Kanna? Is magical/dragonstone Kanna really worth it???
  23. To those who aren't aware: What bothers me, is that the concept of Hoshido is siding with your "Bloodline" Why I ask have they lied about this just so the Waifu/Husbando Audience won't feel guilty about marrying your sibling. I'm actually really sure that's the reason, so nobody will feel guilty about incest and nobody will make a big deal. Now, I know people will say, you'll never know unless you S-Rank one of them, but you do figure it out in the Third Route. So why does IS feel it necessary to throw in a story where the main character essentially betrays his true family he's known for years for people who suddenly come out of the blue and claim they are your family by blood when they actually aren't. Neither side really has the edge in terms of relation when neither of them are blood-related to you.
