  1. If you are one of those special people that managed to buy an NES Classic this past year, then I have some good news for you. In the past few months, applications like Hakchi and RetroArch allow us to put any NES, SNES, GBA, and many more onto our NES. Now it is possible to play Fire Emblem 1 all the way through to 8 on your television. Of course you can always play emulations on your computer, but I've always enjoyed playing NES and SNES on the big screen. The menu music now is the 8 bit FE theme song. I'm thinking about making an entire FE theme for the NES Classic. I hope this thread inspires someone else with a mini to download the FE titles. This tutorial is not mine, but it is the best one out there right now. NOTICE*- The GBA games (FE6, FE7, FE8) require a Wii Pro Controler if you would like to enjoy the full experience. It is still possible to play them, but the NES controller does not have bumpers.
  2. So I made a FE1 hack, a little different from the GBA norm. It's just one chapter and is really more of a chapter to test my hacking and design skills. Please leave some feedback, as it is much appreciated. It has jokes, but the script is pretty generic and short. Link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bwa6P6lGt3ZacC1XLTNTcUg1cnM
  3. Title says all so I was wondering as I just recently got done playing Dark Dragon and Sword of Light. At one point on one of the chapters Garnef tells Marth that Medeus is of no threat to him and that he has him completely under his control with the Falchion and Mafu/Imhullu in his hands. So I was wondering is this true? Or is he just bluffing? Could Garnef really if he wanted to beat Medeus? Is he strong enough to do it? Seeing as to how early he ''dies'' in the game he doesn`t even make it to the final chapter to fight alongside Medeus. So yeah what do you guys think? Game stats aside I wonder if Garnef truly could put down Medeus if he wanted I mean I guess he could since he is immortal with Mafu and only Starlight could hurt him..But Medeus is half immortal too since Earth Dragons cannot be harmed normally well they can be is just hard. And seeing as to how Medeus is I think if he heard that he would totally turn on Garnef and try and take him down he seems like that type.

  5. Well that didn't last so long for the reigning champion to go down. Anyway, Ogma or Barst? It's up to you!
  6. It was a good run for Marth, but he couldn't stand against Wrys and his fanbase. Now, it's between Ogma and Wrys and who wins is up to you!
  7. If you pick him as your favorite, you'll be very glad you did. Anyway, choose between Marth and Wrys on who is your favorite!
  8. Well it looks like Marth and Caeda have to face off against each other...great job guys. Anyway, choose a favorite between Marth and Caeda.
  9. This is a fairly fast and quick thing. Title says all so about FE1 the item storage I can`t seem to find when I search the limit and it`s been so long since I played FE1 so I forgot. So do any of you remember how many items you can store in the item bank in this game? I know the number was quite low and I need to know the exact amount because I am an item hoarder in fire emblem I buy a lot of everything cause ya know? Always will be ready for anything that way. But I remember FE1 it being hard to keep supplies for everyone. Thanks in advance because I will hoard the space up quick fast in no time. Also am I the only one who has a buying addiction in FE? Lol :P I just can`t ever feel properly prepared with having a ton of items haha.
  10. I had to do a coin flip and Marth won. Now he must face Draug/Doga and who wins is entirely up to you!
  11. Gosh, Marth has been steamrolling through this battle royale so far. However, that can all change against the beast of a man that Gaggles is. Anyway, go ahead and choose your favorite.
  12. Does Gharnef still leave after around turn 5? And does he move at all, like in FE3 Book 1 and FE11?
  13. So Marth defeated Abel, but he now must face Cain. Who wins is up to you!
  14. Marth defeated Jeigan in the first round and now he must face Abel. Who wins is entirely up to you!
  15. So I decided to do a little poll series to see which playable character in the whole franchaise is considered the greatest of them all. Whoever wins will be able to move on and face the next hero until only one remains. To start, we have Marth and Jeigan. The winners will be announced one day from this post. Edit: Since I didn't feel like making multiple posts, I combined all of the NES and SNES polls here. The rules are still the same so if Marth wins over Jeigan, he'll move on to the next round and if Alm wins over Lukas, he'll move on, etc. This'll keep going on until the heroes have no one left to battle in their own games and then they'll face off against the other Heroes in a one on one battle. Whoever wins this little royale will get to move on. However, you only get to vote once so choose wisely. Edit: Okay, I think the previous way I did it wasn't confusing. I'll just make separate polls for the other games. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  16. So when enemy thieves raid chests, do they drop their items after defeat or are they gone forever?
  17. Alrighty well then I plan to tackle Dark Dragon and Sword of Light again soon and well. I remember my first time playing through the game being quite hellish due to the way a few of the mechanics work one being item storage having so little space so it is hard to have stuff for my team. But I can push all that aside if it were not for one glaring problem clerics. Ugh I have a playthrough of this game up on my youtube channel that I stopped midway awhile back and I wanna do again and finish but the way clerics work in this game is a big turn off for me and is one thing that is stopping me from going back again. Do any of you have any tips for easy and safe methods to level them? See someone like me is paranoid as heck putting units like that out in the open to be attacked with no defense at all. So I wanna know some safe fast level methods for my clerics since most enemies can 1 round them low speed and no Def easy targets to double attack or 1 shot. A friend of mine said there was a glitch in this game you could exploit in the arena where you can bring any unit inside including clerics and they would get EXP is this true? And if so how do you do it? If such a glitch exists I`ll go with that so the weak healers can catch up with the rest of the team safely and not in the line of getting shot by a steel bow or something or a random critical hit done on them. If it matters at all the two I plan to use are Lena and Maria eh I might dump Lena for Maria though when I get her I personally prefer Maria over Lena but might use them both so yeah.
  18. Post anything you do with fe1 hacking here(except finding unused stuff, that belong here) um , i managed to make a custom map , if that's cool maybe making a tutorial about that soon(™)

  20. Ever wonder how your opinions and attitudes of Fire Emblem have changed over the course of nearly a decade? Thanks to the magic of Gamefaqs archived topics, we can see how I roughly evaluate the roster of FE1 in 2007 compared to what I think of them now! Keep in mind that my original tier list was not ordered within each tier, so small discrepancies between lists can be considered basically negligible. Also noteworthy: 1. I originally considered Jagen and Zaggaro(Sedgar) to be so bad that they deserved their own tier below bottom tier. Oops! 2. Chainey was forgotten in the original draft of this tier list. Ricardo was listed twice to compensate (in the same tier, no less!) 3. Numbers have also been added next to each character's name in the interest of comparing the two lists. The original list can be found here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/562649-fire-emblem-ankoku-ryu-to-hikari-no-tsurugi/39858849 (It's post #2) [spoiler=2007] Top Tier: 1.Abel 2.Hardain 3.Kain 4.Katua (Catria) 5.Oguma 6.Navarre 7.Paola 8.Marich (Merric) 9.Julian High Tier: 10.Linda 11.Astoria 12.Raddy 13.Est 14.Gordan 15.Samson 16.Marth 17.Wendal Mid Tier: 18.Alan 19.Barts 20.Caesar 21.Lawrence 22.Sheeda 23.Medea 24.Minerva 25.Chiki 26.Gato 27.Kashim (Castor) Low Tier: 28.Villuck (Vyland) 29.Maji (Cord) 30.Roger 31.Toms (Dolph) 32.Doga 33.Roshe 34.Machis (Matthis) 35.Thomas 36.George 37.Beck 38.Jake Bottom Tier: 39.Banetou 40.Boa 41.Maria 42.Michelan 43.Rena 44.Ricardo 45.Riff 46.Saji 47.Ulf 48.Daros 49.Ellis 50.Ricardo Jeigan Tier: 51.Jeigan 52.Zaggaro Here is my new and improved quickly thrown together tier list. I made it under the assumption that no character is assumed to be used besides Marth. (This is why Maria has utility as a warper despite Rena existing and the whitewings count as costing many turns independently of Minerva & Maria's recruitments.) [spoiler=2017] Top Tier: 1.Kain (+2) 2.Abel (+1) 3.Sheeda (+19) 4.Rena (+39) 5.Wendell (+12) 6.Hardin (-4) 7.Marth (+9) High Tier: 8.Ogma (-3) 9.Navarre (-3) 10.Merric (-2) 11.Jagen (+40) 12.Barts (+7) 13.Boa (+27) 14.Julian (-5) Mid Tier: 15.Roshe (+18) 16.Machis (+17) 17.Wolf (+30) 18.Gordon (-4) 19.Kashim (+8) 20.Maji (+9) 21.Medea (+2) 22.Astram (-11) 23.Ricardo (+21/+27) 24.Chainey (???) 25.Minerva (+1) 26.Maria (+15) Low Tier: 27.Zaggaro (+24) 28.Biraku (0) 29.Doga (+3) 30.Saji (+16) 31.Daros (+17) 32.Raddy (-20) 33.Caesar (-13) 34.Thomas (+1) 35.Gato (-9) 36.Lawrence (-15) 37.Linde (-27) Bottom Tier: 38.Toms (-7) 39.Roger (-9) 40.Jake (-2) 41.Beck (-4) 42.Michelan (0) 43.Ellis (-6) 44.Riff (+1) 45.Palla (-38) 46.Samson (-31) 47.Aran (-29) 48.Catria (-44) 49.Bantu (-10) 50.Est (-37) 51.Chiki (-26) 52.George (-16) Top 5 units that rose from my initial list: 5. Ricardo (+21/27) / Zaggaro (+24) One of my major changes from my previous makeshift tier list to my new makeshift tier list is the acknowledgement that most characters just aren't great and either bring little to the table, aren't worth the table, cost turns, or all of the above! Ricardo brings moderate thief utility to the table while being basically free to recruit while Zaggaro can nuke fliers and deal a little bit of chip damage with 9 movement and is actually free to recruit. Neither of these guys are in any way excellent but my idea that getting a little something for nothing is better than getting some of something for a lot is very apparent when comparing the two lists. 4. Boa (+27) Poor Boa got profiled just because he's old and his growths are low. Boa's 15 base speed makes him a great dead-Gharnef-on-a-stick, not to mention that as a sage he provides decent chip support and great staff support. Best of all, Boa joins reasonably early and automatically, which are both qualities I apparently pay attention to a lot more now than before. 3. Wolf (+30) Wolf doesn't have the best growths or bases in the game, but they get the job done. What Wolf does have is an excellent move stat and easy access to the Partia, making him one of the most user-friendly and surprisingly effective bow users in the game. 2. Rena (+39) Rena can barely level up in this game. However, she can still warp. Rena is basically warp personified, so up up up she went. 1. Jagen (+40) Was this ever even a question? Poor old Jeigan was given the below-bottom tier treatment in my old list for his poor averages, but I overlooked all of the great things the old man brings to the table. He's your best all-around combat unit for quite some time and joins from the get-go! With a silver sword he is a reasonable unit to deploy all the way to midgame, but his lategame really kept him from me listing him as a top tier unit. Top 5 units that fell from my initial list: 5. Linde (-27) On paper you would almost believe that Linda is a slightly worse version of Merric. In practice, she perhaps couldn't be more disappointing. Aura is a neat tome but it is not even close to Excalibur, not to mention that Linde joins much later and more out of the way with growths and bases merely comparable to Merric's. What a shame! 4. Aran (-29) & Samson (-31) While I considered listing these guys separately, the irony of including them together was just too rich. Both of these guys embody what values changed most from my initial tier list to this one: late join times, annoying turn costs, and solid level 20 stats. Unfortunately, I favor the first two nowadays over the latter, so down they went. Turn counts are real jerks, aren't they? 3. Est (-37) Oh, the shame! Although I did not rank Est in the top tier, her ability to quickly promote to a dragon knight for that sweet 14 base def and to gain offense stats quick to complement that bulk had me vastly overrate Est and her late join time, difficulty to level up, and vast turn cost. 2. Palla (-38) Seeing a pattern, here? Palla is a reasonable unit but her turn cost is just too steep to be considered for a serious run. (Unless you're doing one of those weird full recruitment runs instead of those super sexy minimum recruitment runs.) Minerva, as a comparison, costs less turns and is generally better (with the hardly contested speed wing), and only just managed to scrape my middle tier. 1. Catria (-44) Oh no! Not my waifu! Unfortunately for Catria, 20/20 averages don't do much for me anymore, and no amount of 30% def growths can stop her huge turn cost from being a liability. She's a reasonable combat unit that only costs a few turns if you were planning to recruit Minerva anyway, but in any low-turn or efficient run the turn cost isn't worth it even if you really want a flier. Well, that's my journey from 2007 to present. This is mostly an FYI but feel free to discuss/make fun of my placements from either list if you would like. Pretty amazing how 10 years and a few fe1 drafts can change a person's opinion, huh? We went from averages are king in 2007 to turns are king in 2017. Check back in 2027 to see how my crazy opinions have changed even further. You won't believe where Doga ends up!
  21. Which gameplay do you think is overall more fun? FE1 or Gaiden?
  22. Title says it all: I’m going to play FE1. Read the tale in this thread. I'll mostly be playing this for fun! Because I love FE1. However, I will also be exploring the game to get more yet unknown info on FE1 up on SF (if VincentASM ever gets around to doing that). This means I’ll be testing things like death quotes and – luck. I will include this exploring in spoilers. That way, people who are interested in that stuff can look at it and people who only want to see the gameplay can ignore it. This is my first LP ever, so I still need to get the hang of things. Constructive criticism is always welcome, of course. If I include either too many or too few screenshots, please tell me. I'm a bit busy as of now, so chapter 1 will be up this weekend. In the meantime discuss this dilemma for me: should I use the official names or the names from the translation patch? On the one hand, using official names could make this easier to follow for people who are already familiar with (say) FE11, but not with the fan translations of FE1. On the other hand, this means the names in my screenshots will differ from the names I use, which could be confusing. Anyway, for clarity's sake, here is a link to the name chart. Now that that is out of the way, let’s start. I’m not going to screenshot the entire intro for you. If you’re desperate to watch it, you can find it on a magical place called the Internet. Like here. The story so far: At first, there are Falchion sword, Dark Dragon (Shadow Dragon) and Fire Emblem. Seriously, that’s all the ancient history we know. Recent history: our main character is Marth, the Prince of Aritia (Altea), who was dethroned by Durhua (Doluna/Dolhr) (bad guy alert!). Durhua is also the guy who sends generals. This is where I begin. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  23. Heya! I was wondering if there was any documentation out there for FE1/FE2 hacking. I haven't seen any resources whatsoever available for either of those games, and I'm sorta interested in tinkering with them. Anything would be helpful!
  24. I was wondering how I might go about checking if the unused character, Saber, has any defined unit information; class, stats, growth rates, starting inventory, etc. I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about FE1's data structure, and it's possible that unit data is handled such that none exists for him, but I'm still curious if it would be possible to do this. Does anybody know anything that might be of use?
  25. I'm going to start my first run of Shadow Dragon in a few weeks and wanted to know...What should I expect? How much harder is it compared to later games? Is the story good? I also don't care much for spoilers, give as much information as possible please. Thank You!
