  1. Hello, I'm playing FE5 for the first time and currently playing chapter 8x. Since Thracia 776 is the hardest FE game, I want to make my life as comfortable as possible. I have two skill scrolls already (elite + wrath), but I'm not quite sure, who shall get them. My plan was to give wrath to Nanna, because she can heal 3x, whenever she does a critical. Leaf with his light sword would also be a nice idea against the bosses, who have ridiculous defense boost. Though I have no idea, who to give elite. I was thinking to give it to Olwen, but it still lasts a few chapters till I'll get her. I'd like to use it already to get more exp. in earlygame. My current main team: Leaf Othin Havan Nanna Safy Fargus Hicks (?) Tanya (?) Asvel Lifis (only used in chapters with doors / chests) Fin Karen (?) ?= not sure
  2. I recorded a playthrough of FE5 in preparation for a future warpless 0% growths low turn count ironman elite mode run and I figured I might as well post it online. I don't expect anyone to watch it, but at least now there are some FE5 videos on youtube with half-decent tactics. Several chapters are kind of sloppy (especially 7, 12x, and the final chapter), so it would be nice to get suggestions on how to improve this run. It's a really cool challenge and I highly recommend that you give it a try. For example, look at how much more entertaining chapter 21 becomes: Here's the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcUnDcs3XizKnTeY2R5Gt08qs8pkF-Ao0 I'll probably add a description to each video explaining what I'm doing and why. Sample turncounts for an ironman run: chapter - turncount 1 - 4 2 - 4 2x - 8 3 - 6 4 - 11-13 5 - 18-20 6 - 7 7 - 8 8 - 5 9 - 3 10 - 13-14 11 - 7 12 - 6-7 12x - 10-15? 13 - 6 14 - 10 15 - 2 16b - 4 17b - 3 18 - 6-7 19 - 1 20 - 15 21 - 5 21x - 1 22 - 4 23 - 3 24 - 4 final - 4-5 I recorded each chapter going well, so the recorded run displays 178 turns. http://imgur.com/FWfZMQE
  3. I'm not sure how popular this sort of run is around here, but this Thracia 776 0% growths ironman low turn count run is by far the most fun I've had with any Fire Emblem game. I prefer 0% growths since it removes a large part of the randomness I dislike and also improves the game's balance by reducing player strength to the level of the enemy (the one-man-army tactic becomes questionable, many more units are useful throughout the game, more than brute strength is needed to take down bosses, and levelling is still important for promotions). I almost always play ironman runs (no resetting, game over means the run is over) because I like making reliable tactics that account for poor luck and I get to adapt and salvage a bad situation when it occurs. I've done a couple runs where I find the ideal path to the lowest turncount and reset until it went my way and it wasn't nearly as fun, plus it lacked the tension of an ironman run. And I like aiming for a low turn count since it encourages creative and complex tactics in situations where there would otherwise be little pressure. Even with 0% growths, there are many slow tactics which can trivialize the challenge at certain parts of the game; in a low turn count run I have a reason to employ more impressive tricks instead. Not to mention all the planning that goes into managing deployment orders, staff usage, fatigue, etc. Overall, I think the difficulty in a 0% growths ironman run of FE5 is perfect for people who have played through the game a couple times, and you can make it more or less difficult by aiming for a lower or higher turncount. I highly recommend you guys give this challenge a try if you haven't already. Anyways, I just finished a playthrough of this challenge and finished with 173 turns which satisfies the SS rank requirements. I'm sure this can be improved quite a bit and I'm interested in seeing what sort of strategies you guys use to blitz through the game this way. By the way, I should add that I played on normal (not elite) and I'd recommend doing that because I wouldn't want to trivialize the early game experience management. Here are the turncounts from my most recent run: chapter - turncount 1 - 4 2 - 4 2x - 8 3 - 7 4 - 12 5 - 20 (expect to get ~19, depends on luck and my strategy could be better) 6 - 7 7 - 8 8 - 6 9 - 3 (could easily 2-turn this, but I thought I needed the elite sword) 10 - 15 (would be 14 with just a bit better luck against the boss, but I think a completely fresh strategy could greatly improve on this) 11 - 2 12 - 3 (repair missed, but 3 is reasonable since Fin struggles at capturing) 12x - 6 13 - 7 (I bet there's a way to reduce this with a cool rescue chain) 14 - 10 15 - 2 16a - 7 17a - 4 18 - 4 19 - 2 20 - 15 21 - 1 21x - 4 (wanted to get at least five warp staves) 22 - 2 23 - 2 24 - 4 final - 4 That's what I've managed on my own, not sure where I should go to look at other people's attempts and stuff. I loosely planned out a lot of the run and partially just play it by ear since things change every time. Anyways I look forward to hearing about cooler and better tactics. Also, at some point I think I'll add a no-warp restriction or all-characters requirement in addition to the conditions included in this challenge. Have either of those been done? Are they fun? I'm leaning towards the no-warp one since I wouldn't want the playthrough to end if a random character happens to die. And I'm open to suggestions for other interesting challenge playthoughs. [edit: I've figured out ways to save several more turns, I'll give it another attempt someday]
  4. In the favorite villains thread I partly discussed this, but we have a rather interesting dynamic here between FE3 and FE4 in the category of loyalty. Wolf, leader of the Wolfguard, was saved by Hardin when he was in slavery in Aurelis. Along with his fellows, Sedgar, Roshea and Biraku Vyland. They pledged their loyalty to Hardin, to death. Which actually happens in Mystery of the Emblem, The Wolfguard tragically stands against Marth other than Roshea and falls alongside their now Dark Emperor despite his fall to darkness. Wolf never even questions his lords orders, in New Mystery of the Emblem, the Wolf Guard can all be spared and join, however Wolf is the last and least likely to fight against his lord. In the end of New Mystery if he survives he ends up throwing himself into battles hoping to die to join his departed master (unless Femu has a support with him if I recall). Finn, a young Lenster knight devoted to his lord Prince Quan, his loyalty is also noted in various chats with other characters and extends into his later life after Quan and Ethlyn tragically die after a Thracian ambush near Barhara. Finn looks after Leif, Quan's son as a dutiful attendant and father figure. When the king of Lenster is slain and Finn has to get Leif to safety he follows him to the absolute end, helping him endure struggle after struggle in Thracia 776, later when he meets Leif's sister. Altenna he openly shows his emotions for the first time in quite some time, according to himself. He's also loyal to Lachesis, who we can fight over canon about, but even the main site explains "After the events of Geneaology of Holy War, Fin leaves Prince Leaf and goes to fulfill an unknown personal agenda. There are later rumours of him being spotted looking for someone in the Yied Desert, in the same area where Lachesis had been supposed to pass through years before only to never be seen again." So there you have 2 characters highly driven by loyalty, is Finn a take on Wolf from a still tragic yet not completely hopeless case? Did IS just happen to like this kind of character to give us two characters who demonstrated loyalty both one who oft spoke when he could or felt like it, to the more quiet and always serious (which funny enough Finn also shows these traits after Quan and Ethlyns untimely ends). I just felt it was an interesting duo to talk about. Both characters are absolutely loyal to their lords. The world changing/removing their lords provides both with various challenges, which they react to very differently. Yet you can't help but see SOME similarities.
  5. Hey guys! As many of you know, a very important mechanic in FE5 and FE3 Book 2 is the ability to actively influence the growth rates of units by having them carry crusader scrolls (or star shards in FE3's case). If exploited, this mechanic can turn units with moderate or even bad growth rates to actually useful units. However, whenever I find myself playing either FE5 or FE3, I tend to forget the exact base growths of most of my units and/or the exact bonuses granted by items (especially some that influence multiple stat growths), therefore having to look them up. This is more evident in FE5's case where the inventory has 7 available slots, therefore allowing for more complex combinations of scrolls. Furthermore, the way that crusader scrolls function may not be immediately obvious to those new to the game. So this gave me the idea of building a tool that would automate these computations and would also allow any user to keep track of these computations easily, without having to lookup or even remember anything. It's nothing too fancy really, just some html, css and a bit of javascript coding that gets the job done. Please allow me to demonstrate. Let's pick Marty (the man whom Dagda loved) as our test subject: Upon selection, the calculator displays an output that consists of three parts: the character's modified growths, the character's chances to cap each stat and his average stats (many thanks to Sara. for suggesting this addition). Modified Growths: The first part details the unit's modified growth rates under the specified set of crusader scrolls. Of course, if you select no scrolls, what you'll see is simply the unit's base growths. Regarding the displayed data, the unit's starting class is also shown along with his growth rates, in case someone wants to compare between units of the same class. Now, as it becomes instantly obvious, his Str, Skl and Spd are downright horrible and should be tampered if we want him to have a fighting chance. Let's load his inventory with a bunch of scrolls: Whenever a new scroll is added or removed, the output table changes appropriately to reflect his current growth rates. In order to be able to instantly tell which growths have been modified and in what way, growth rates that have been increased are colored green, while growth rates that have been decreased are colored red. Additionally, you are able to view the bonus modifiers granted by each individual scroll by simply having your mouse cursor hover above it. That way, there's no need to remember the exact bonuses granted by each scroll when planning your strategy. If the user wishes to view a summary of the exact bonuses on any particular stat, he can again hover his mouse over the corresponding cell of the output table. Finally, if a growth rate becomes negative due to the effect of crusader scrolls, the calculator treats it as zero (please see: http://old.serenesforest.net/general/growth.html for details). This is shown below for Marty's Mag when he's equipped with the Noba scroll. Chances to Cap: The second part of the output details the character's likelihood to cap each of his respective stats. This is similar to the "Chance to Cap" data listed in the Path of Radiance section of serenesforest (see: http://serenesforest.net/path-of-radiance/characters/chance-to-cap/). Furthermore, as far as I'm aware, no such data are currently listed for Thracia 776, so this calculator might as well provide you with a fast way for computing those. What's more, these chances will automatically change as you change the equipped scrolls. Notice that since we're capable of instantly tracking how the "chances to cap" change for each stat, it is somewhat easier to determine which combination will benefit your units most (based on what scrolls you possess and what you aim to do). Average stats: The last part of the output consists of a series of tables containing estimates for the character's average stats, for a specified set of crusader scrolls. Of course, the very first row contains the selected character's base stats. Stats that have reached their respective caps, will be distinguished by flashing like this: Similarly to the previous tables, the average stats tables are also updated everytime you either select a different character or change scrolls in the inventory. For a different set of scrolls, Marty's predicted average stats become: Promotion gains can also be viewed instantly by hovering your mouse above a cell containing a stat name for each promotion (starting class is excluded). The next image shows this for Marty's Str when promoting to a Warrior. Of course, if the inventory doesn't contain any scrolls, the average stats displayed will be identical to the ones found here: http://serenesforest.net/thracia-776/characters/average-stats/ Here's an example of this using Evayle: What do you guys think? Would it be of any interest/use to the community? Any suggestions are welcome. The application can be downloaded from GitHub: https://github.com/Sharpshooter23/FE5-Growth-Rate-Calculator Feel free to play around with it or to read through its source code.
  6. I feel at time I'm the only person who absolutely hates all the mechanics Thracia is constantly praised for. I really hate the fatigue system. I just enjoy using characters I like. I personally don't care for having to micro-manage and the challenge of using everyone. I personally just want to use units I like and not be gimped for it. Dismounting is my least favorite mechanic in the entire series. I find it really unnecessary. Yeah, it nerfs mounts in a way, but I really hate the way it sword-locks every single mounted unit. I don't want to carry a ton of excess swords around just for units that are only going to need them for certain chapters! I would be fine with the mechanic if people could use whatever weapon they specialize in, which would make SENSE. I like the idea of capturing. I really do. But I can't stand using it. Mainly because it gimps your accuracy a lot, in a game where accuracy is annoying because of the RNG system. I also don't like that more or less any enemy unit can just wisk away any cleric or I believe, mages, I don't really remember how that works so feel free to correct me on that. I don't know how they'd do it but give a bit more critera before you just kidnap the lightest units in the game. I know it's to punish you for messing up, but kmon. And the times I would enjoy buying weapons I can't really buy much or any, because the only way you get money is really by capturing and selling things, and even when I want to buy something it costs SO MUCH it's not even worth it. Other mechanics I personally dislike are fog of war, it was much better implemented in other games, and even though I hate them in those games at least I can STAND IT. I also hate that there are very few ways to actually recover from status ailments, which is really cheap and stupid in my opinion. Because if you get berserked or put asleep you're pretty much screwed. I'm not trying to start any fights or anything, because I can appreciate them trying new mechanics, but I honestly find that half the mechanics in this make it very irritating and unplayable for me, which is a shame, because I really want to finish it because I love this continent this game takes place in, but I cannot bear to even play it. I really needed to get this off my chest. Am I the only one with this opinion? Probably.
  7. So, I have just started hacking FE5, and I opened it up in Nightmare. The first thing I noticed was that the numbers for the base stats/growth rates are completely insane: However, since I have run the rom before without any problems, I don't think too much of it. I then attempted to give Leif Bargain: I apply the changes and save the rom, and then I try playing the game to see if the change registered. Unfortunately, it didn't: Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
  8. As some of you know, FE3 and FE5 had a mechanic called "dismount" where your mounted units couldn't go inside structures with their mounts but could fight off horseback (with swords only even if they didn't use swords on a mount). They also had minor stat losses while off their horse. How would you feel about the mechanic returning in a future game or a possible remake but revamped? I'd like just a general discussion. I for one loved the mechanic and found its only flaw to be the "Only Swords (or bows if you were a horse archer) dismounted" deal
  9. So, I've been playing through FE4, and I have to praise the translators. It's a good patch. I know/ have heard that the ending of the game causes some issues and that some of the conversations bewtween lovers when returning back to base are missing, but those are minor things. Now, I'm wondering about FE5. I've heard a lot of different opinions on this patch. The translation page says it's mostly complete, but I can't find a full list of just what isn't finished. Are there any parts of the game that are unplayable due to this, or should I be fine going through the game as it is?
  10. Hello everyone whats up? well today I have 2 questions concerning nightmare again heh I was gonna do it the long way but I am too lazy to do it that way Lol my original plan was to just write them all down in my note book one by one but I see each list is quite long and they always seemed incomplete to me since they are blank. Although looking at FE4 cheat codes I see the cheats list and nightmare list are almost one and the same except the cheat codes list is missing any skill combos that include the unused skills in the game Darkness Sword and Holy Sword I want to do more good combos with those skills. 1.FE4 skills editor yes FE4 again haha well I wanted to play around with unit skills more than I`ve done now but there is a problem half of the skills in the lists are blank does anyone have a FE4 nightmare module with them all filled in? or have a text list with them all filled in? I was going to write them down by hand at first but that seems it will take very long. Here is an example of it. I will go with hmm let`s use Noish for this. It says in nightmare Noish then you have his equipment slots etc. holy blood then skills you see skill 1 0x09 Critical+Shooting Star Sword then about 95% of the list after that looks like 0x0C - and nothing is there Anyone got a clear list? if not i will continue how I was doing it and write them down. 2.FE5 yep I`ve moved on to the next I want to play my FE5 again but with different classes the issue is promotion editor won`t work thats it. It just says error loading module. I usually just ignore those but this is in the promotion editor I really want to use that so I can explore the rest of the FE5 classes I am curious of many of them.
  11. Thracia is probably my favorite FE title. I love this game more then Awakening. Because I'm bored, I would like to share my experience on this game for the 15th or 16th time. [spoiler=Chapter 1] Yay, Thracia! Basic shit right here. The first few chapter may not be that exciting. And Leaf misses! And Fin gobbles up a foe. Trying not to waste Fin's brave lance, not that I'm bad at it. Othin: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! Sweet! More units(that I never use). Yeah yeah, Give me Pugi please. More Lances for Fin. Halvan miss But Leaf attacks with his sword of Light Brand. Marty getting some action. Oh thanks! from Leaf... :| Wouldn't hurt to use Evayle at times. Well I have plenty of gold, so yeah. Thanks for the sword though. Here come Othin. Rude! Okay, bye Tanya. And Tanya is still here. I will never understand Thracia. With Tanya still here, Othin is pissed. He's still pissed! from Othin... Well yeah, your an axe fighter, aren't you. Sure thing lady! Cool! Stat boosters! Used it on Leaf, because why not. Dagda Smash! And Fin crited! Crited? Is that even a word? Eh, I'll take. Buying some Vulnerably, because I'm loaded. I'll take that sword that's to heavy for leaf to wield. Nope. And end of chapter! Want to see anything special like me using a certain unit or something. Just tell me and I'll try to make it happen.

  13. so yeah looking at the title a person who has not played much fire emblem will be attempting to beat in which many fire emblem fans consider the hardest fe game. let us see how far i get. And oh no tips please unless if i ask for them. also can anyone tell me where the best translation patch is. i watched mageknight's404 walkthrough and i couldn't understand the weapon names or anything so yeah. another thing can someone tell me how the attack forecast works in this game. hope you enjoy
  14. I have had this idea for a while and I was wondering if it was possible for making a command to capture an enemy in FE7 like in FE5?
