  1. So I was thinking of a Fire Emblem crossover game. Not like Warriors or the other one I won't speak of. I was thinking a game where it crosses 2 GBA games. FE7 and FE8. Essentially merging Magvel and Elibe. I do not know if it's been done before or already in development.

So I've been playing around for awhile with the idea of De-making Shadow Dragon so to speak into the GBA games, I know there was a project floating around a few years back but it seems like it has more or less died off. I've been working on it for a few months actually, worked out how I'd do Growth Rates and Base Stats depending on a couple of scenarios. Right now I'm trying to determine if I'd be better off making the game using Fire Emblem 7, or Sacred Stones there are pros and cons to both for sure. Fire Emblem 7 Has a lot of material as well as the way it's designed is closer to the Vanilla Game in which each class had only one promotion. Sacred Stones however, has less reference materials for me to work with as well as myself being less familiar with editing it. But as a pro it has branching promotions which could allow me to get more creative with gameplay as well as help with unit diversity problems which is something I'd really want to somehow fix with this (I mean seriously, 7 Pre-Promote Cavaliers? If you were to promote them all you'd potentially have 10 Paladins). So I guess what I'm wondering is, should I try to use Sacred Stones as the base or Fire Emblem 7? My goal is to keep it close to the source material but also flesh out some characters with supports, and in trying to keep it close to the original experience should I try to go with Fire Emblem 7 which would make the experience more similar to FE3 in a sense, or should I go with Fire Emblem 8 which would likely prove more difficult but also allow for characters to be more unique in their development as well as make the project a more unique experience? EDIT: I also realize now that the title is likely inappropriate as neither is truly "better" but I can't think of a much better title.
  3. I just recently heard about a new hacking tool in FEBuilderGBA, but I cant seem to get any of my changes to show up in the game. Are there any tutorials for it out there that could help me with this? Really, any tutorials or instructions would be great help. Should I even bother with this? Or should I just stick to Nightmare and the other necessary programs?

  5. So I'm sure most of us are aware that attempting to give magic animations to melee axes causes the game to freeze, since there are no ranged animations for the melee axes. I haven't tried yet, but would it be possible to simply edit the script of all sprites with axe animations to include a ranged attack? For my hack I don't need anything extravagant, it'd be fine even if they stood absolutely still.

  7. I'm very new to hex editing, but I thought it was simple enough that I could do it on my own. So, I'm trying to put Circleseverywhere's FE8 Native Instruments BIN into my FE8 hack, and it worked perfectly with a clean file (the custom music works and everything). Now, I tried the same with my edited ROM, which has nightmare edits and text/portrait/sprite edits from Feditor Adv, and the game crashes whenever actual gameplay comes up. I can navigate the title screen and even access the sound room to hear my custom music, but the World Map and Link Arena cause the game to freeze. I tried inserting the BIN into the free space at 00B2A610 and free space I made myself at the end of the ROM, both with the same results. Another quirk is when I start a new game: immediately after the cutscenes end, the game resets itself. Is there an issue with the free space that's conflicting with Feditor Adv or Nightmare? And if it is, is there an easy fix or would I simply have to start all over with a clean ROM?
  8. Here's the latest release of a hack I've been working on for some time now. For some background, it was a project I undertook after playing through Fates and going through some ideas on how to make FE8 more interesting as opposed to just having Seth stomp everything to endgame. As such, this hack will not change anything with the characters or plot, but expect infinite weapons, personal skills, and Eirika actually getting Str for once. So someone challenged me to make a roman soldier in FE style and now that i'm working on it i think it would be cool to create a smallish hack, maybe 10 chapters. with Roman and Greek styled unit. This is a project I've had in my head for a while now, of which I now wish to bring to life with the help of a few people close to me... as well as you, the users of Serenes Forest! All updates relevant to the development of this fangame/hack for FE8 (yes, I'm undertaking hacking THAT game) shall be posted here in this thread! What will this hack contain?   12. Here's an FE8 hack I've been working on for a couple of weeks. Some key points: * Durability is removed for most weaponry (siege tomes can still break). Weapon lines get various abilities to differentiate each other. * Some classes have had their weapon choices changed. Notably Cavaliers no longer have access to swords, Knights get axes in addition to lances. * Enemies are buffed up relative to vanilla FE8. No more facing unpromoted enemies in the last few chapters. * Character stats tweaked to clarify their roles. Example, Seth is still good, but will have a harder time remaining relevant to endgame unless given more attention.   13. If you are one of those special people that managed to buy an NES Classic this past year, then I have some good news for you. In the past few months, applications like Hakchi and RetroArch allow us to put any NES, SNES, GBA, and many more onto our NES. Now it is possible to play Fire Emblem 1 all the way through to 8 on your television. Of course you can always play emulations on your computer, but I've always enjoyed playing NES and SNES on the big screen. The menu music now is the 8 bit FE theme song. I'm thinking about making an entire FE theme for the NES Classic. I hope this thread inspires someone else with a mini to download the FE titles. This tutorial is not mine, but it is the best one out there right now. NOTICE*- The GBA games (FE6, FE7, FE8) require a Wii Pro Controler if you would like to enjoy the full experience. It is still possible to play them, but the NES controller does not have bumpers.

  16. So after repointed standing map sprite table at 0xb2a610(free space), I inserted a custom map sprite at B2AE10(0x6B). And this happens... It only displays a shadow. I'm sure that map sprite itself works perfectly fine in other games. So I guess it must have something to do with hex. I already changed all these address 26706 2678A 2680C 26C68 27250 27B96 27C82 27D30 27DF0 27E84 27F5A 2804C to FF. But it didn't seem to work. Please help :( Edit: Never mind I figured it out lol Edit:Solution After use Standing map sprite editor in nightmare, open your rom in HxD, go to the address of your repointed table, to the address of that map sprite, you'll find it displays like 02 FF(unknown number) 01 FF(size 16x32) B4 C9 B2 08(graphic address). Change FF to 00 to solve the problem. (Don't know if csv have the same issue though)
  17. So I've been experimenting with the FE8 native instruments map by Circleseverywhere, and there is no string ensemble in FE8. I want to change this, so how do I take an instrument, such as string ensemble 1, from FE7 and put it in FE8 so I can use it with the instrument map?

Hello, I'm doing a hack of FE8, and currently I'm editing palettes but the Shaman, Summoner, Druid won't change even after changing the palettes with BSPalette Assembler and doing the required modifications on nightmare. And (I don't know if this is related) but when Ewan hit lvl.10 the game softlock (Blackscreen after the dialogue but nothing else shows up) and I'm unable to continue the game since Ewan promotes at the start of a chapter. I'm using FEditor Adv, Nightmare, Fe_Recolor, BSPalette Assembler and HxD. What could I do do resolve those problems ?
  19. I'm a bit new to adding music to the game, so bear with me here. I ripped the song Endless Battle straight from New Mystery and inserted it into FE8 without any problems from what I can tell. However, there don't seem to be any native instruments that work with some of my tracks. It's be easier to show my problem then try to describe it, so here's a video of what I'm talking about: With the horns at the beginning, I figure I can probably just use a multi-instrument or something, since I really like the way they sound for the rest of the song. I have no idea what to do about the strings section though. I've tried throwing any instrument I can in that slot just to see what works, and it's usually an instrument that's hilariously inappropriate, if it even works correctly at all. There's some other things I'd like to change around too, of course, but honestly right now I'd be happy if I could get rid of that Proto-Man sounding part. The part in question starts around 0:35 in the original song

  21. I am currently making a bunch of edits to FE8, one of which is changing Ross into a Pupil. I've changed his character to the class "Trainee Mage (1)". I've edited Ch.2 so that Ross comes as a "Trainee Mage (1)", holding a Fire tome and a Vulnerary. He's reached level 10, but he's not auto-promoting before the start of the next battle. What could be the problem? Apologies if this is a known issue.
  22. Quick question! Would it be possible to set some of the skills into scrolls in such a way that one could have the scroll in their inventory (or use it), and give them skills like Great Shield or Pierce?
  23. Does anyone know if its possible to add chapters to FE8? I titled it with Gaiden chapters because I figured that'd be the simplest method considering the FE8 map events are still tough(?). I don't necessarily need to know how to do it right away, but I'm in the planning stages and would like to know what's possible and what isn't before I get ahead of myself. But for example, say after chapter 10, chapter 10x would load up without taking you back to the map, and upon being cleared, the map events would continue as normal. I did use the search bar, but if the information's here and I missed it, I'm sorry for my senility.
  24. And technically first spriting attempt in general. As you can see, it looks almost nothing like Asvel. The current colours for his hair are from his Thracia sprite, I intend to tweak that a bit but the hair is a mess and I'm not sure if that base is going to be easy to work with. I tried to make his hair poofy-ish? Though it didn't exactly turn out that way. Tried to make a smile but it's more like a smirk. I guess I'm just asking for some advice, criticism, if someone wouldn't mind. I need direction.
  25. I thought I followed Ultimate Tutorial to insert a new background but it messed up pretty bad :( I repointed both the graphic pointer and palette pointer to free space but it still ended up like this. No idea how to solve it. Please help.
