  1. Alright, so there are a lot of skills in Awakening. A LOT of them. Some of them are good. Others... not so much. Here I will list my top 5 skills. #5: Astra. Astra allows for a unit to strike 5 times at half damage. That puts your overall damage output at 2.5X the normal amount. Combine that with criticals and this skill means death. Of course, this skill only works if you can actually deal decent damage, not to mention the Counter suicides, so it's here at the bottom of the list. #4: Iote's Shield. Flying units are nice until their weaknesses come to play. Sadly, their two main weaknesses also have some of the highest hit rates in the game. Iote's shield fixes that so now your Griffon Rider can be one-shotted by a magic tome due to it's resistance rather than a weakness. #3: Vengence. This skill is evil. The more damage you take, the more damage you deal, not to mention if you have over 50 skill it will always activate. Of course, this skill is only useful on the higher difficulties because you need to be hit in order for this to work. #2: Galeforce. Oh Galeforce, how broken are ye. Galeforce allows a unit to act again if he or she defeats an enemy. I could list all the ways this completly breaks the game, but that would probably be beating a dead horse. #1: Limit Breaker. Increase my stat caps by 10. Make me virtually invincible on lower difficulites? Yes please! And that's it. Now do you agree with my picks or not. Also what are your top skills?
  2. Hey everyone, just made an account on here, and had a few questions. I've played through the GBA fire emblem games, PoR and Radiant Dawn, and I got awakening a two and a half weeks ago. I love it so far, and plot-wise, I'm right before Ch. 6. Units-wise, I've spent a lot of time fighting Risen. My questions: 1. I'm taken my female MU all the way through the Tactician class to lvl 20, and reclassed her to Dark Mage and just got her to 20. I'm not sure if I want to do one of the following: A. Promote to Sorcerer, lvl to 15, then switch to Grandmaster B. Promote to Dark Knight, lvl to 15, then switch to Grandmaster C. Second seal her over to Peg. Knight then lvl to 20, then promote to Dark Flier for Galeforce. D. Option C followed by reclassing to either A or B then Grandmaster. Fem MU stats: HP: 53 Str: 13 Mag: 26(max) Skill: 21 Spd: 29(max) Luck: 18 Def: 25(max) Res: 15 Assets: Spd+/Luck- Also, I'm rather conflicted between options A and B. Tomebreaker and Vengeance are nice, but Lifetaker is just so useful, and will likely prevent some deaths. Slow Burn isn't that big of a priority for me, but I'd use it when convenient. __ 2. I'm messed around with the some of the Spotpass characters, and have some of them. At this point I've gotten 10 of them to lvl 20, of which Ulster and Jamke are my top dogs. I've reclassed Jamke from Archer lvl 20 to Wyvern Rider, and it's quite nice. Is it recommended I keep working with Jamke, or ditch him for an upcoming wyvern rider who's all around better( but no galeforce) Jamke, lvl 11, Wyvern Rider stats: HP: 47 Str: 26(+2) Mag: 7 Skill 23(+2)(max) Spd: 24(max) Luck: 17 Def: 21 Res: 6 __ 3. Lissa. I've taken her through lvl 20 as a cleric, and reclassed her to Troubadour for extra stat growth and Demoiselle. At this point, I'm considering one option, with several steps. -Plan: Reclass to Peg Knight. Lvl to 20. Promote to Dark Flier. Get Galeforce. Reclass to Falconknight/Valkyrie/Unsure Lissa, lvl 20, Troubadour stats: HP: 45 Str: 5 Mag: 20 Skill: 20 Spd: 25 Luck: 31 Def: 12 Res: 22(+2) Thanks for the help in advance yall, and if I need to include other info, just let me know. Side Note: Donnel is the best character I've got so far. My only complaint is the writers missed an opportunity to make a Big Lebowski reference when Donnel's mom was trying to talk him into staying home. They set it up, and it would have been perfect. TL;DR: Need help picking paths for fem MU, Jamke from Spotpass, and Lissa with current choices/setups --PapBear
  3. Hey all, I was about to make a post within the pairing thread, until I read the OP. You see, my decision making for marriages in Fire Emblem: Awakening breaks down like this: 50% match-making 20% hair colour 20% skills 10% final class pairings 0% stats and growth rates (since I'm yet to understand them) The match-making part is very important to me from a storytelling perspective. I like pairings which feel like they make the most sense. While optimisation comes second best. So hopefully I don't offend the rules making this thread. Here's what I've settled upon so far, for absolute certain. Virion + Olivia = Inago [spoiler=reasoning]I've heard countless times how rubbish Virion is hehe, but I think he's got great character, so I want to use him. When I actually came across Inago during my first ever play-through of the game, I had no doubt that Inago was Virion's child! I was shocked when I discovered the delightful dark mage Henry and Olivia could spawn such a man of flowers. It was SO jarring for me. So next time, I have to put Virion and Olivia together. Who says his affections for Sully have to be successful anyway? In my narrative, I'll go with her being repulsed by him. This works out well for me anyway, because I like to put Virion on horseback with a bow, with Inago in support to finish the enemy off with a sword. Both in the Bow Knight class. Inago's just a little reluctant to follow his father hehe. For this pairing I'm not so bothered about hair. Though the glorious white hair inherited by Henry will be dearly missed. Frederick + Cherche = Gerome [spoiler=reasoning]Initially during my first playthrough I was kind of disappointed with my Frederick and Cherche pairing when I met Gerome. Frederick was a tough individual to pair for me. He was so duty bound and honourable. The support between him and Cherche felt like I finally found a realistic pair. Both of them dutiful and set on improvement and helping others. It was perfect. Until The Dark Knight Gerome came along. How could he be so stoic and cynical from such parents? It didn't make ANY sense. That is until I learnt how Gerome never knew his parents. His account of them going off to distant lands to help others and not coming back just completed the picture and provided a backstory for his bitterness. So my disappoint naturally subsided. I really prefer Gerome with dark hair too. Light hair, especially pink, looks dreadful in my eyes. He's just a dark character hehe. I'm going to keep Fred as a Great Knight, while letting Cherche and Gerome become Wyvern Lords. But they don't all need to have flying mounts, so that's alright. Henry + Lissa = Owain [spoiler=reasoning]Down sword hand! Owain's quirky personality had to be picked up from somewhere. I like to think Lissa was partially responsible, but not all by herself. The father has to be off his rocker as well haha. I prefer Owain to have light/blonde hair, so that narrows down the contenders a little. In my first play-through I paired Libra with Lissa. But the support conversations for Owain and his father were a little dull. Libra didn't really feel like the most appropriate father for Owain. Another choice would be Vaike. But who would Owain most likely inherit a screwball personality from? Well, it's the master of crows, Henry! I could imagine that family, Henry, Lissa and Owain living and being together, so that works for me. I intend to finish Henry with the Dark Knight class. He might not be able to deal dark magic, but he turns out to be quite good natured during the narrative. And my Henry was a real force of reckoning with his Bolaganoe and Valflame anyway. Meanwhile Lissa will be a Valkyrie. So they can fight the enemy on horseback together for me. Kellam + Sully = Kjelle [spoiler=reasoning]I have to be honest, I don't really like Sully. There's something about her personality. I don't really know what it is. Maybe the tryhard nature? Funnily enough, I actually missed recruiting Kellam on my first play-through and actually forgot about him quickly after the Longfort haha. But Kellam and Sully are both Shepherds, so it would feel reasonable for them to become close. Kellam is a Knight, same as Kjelle. I have a feeling that she followed in her parents footsteps to get there. I'll admit, I pick and choose when to follow the artwork for the children and when not to. My original pairing for Sully was with Virion to see what would happen. But to be frank, I really didn't like Virion's hair on Kjelle. While Kjelle's artwork has black hair. So using Kellam ticks the criteria for good hair hehe. Kjelle felt like quite a dull character. So Kellam, an outright blank character, would make for a suitable father. It also saves using a better character on Sully hehe. Together Kellam and Kjelle can be my walking tanks... slowly making their way through the battlefield as a pair of General classes. So Kellam and Sully equals K-jelly. Here's what I'm leaning towards. Probably about 75% certain. Chrom + Sumia = Lucina and Cynthia [spoiler=reasoning]In terms of the cutscenes, it seems like Sumia is the canon wife for Chrom. She is clearly affectionate to him (though this isn't something unique to her character), and saves his life on a Pegasus if I'm not wrong. In the menu cinematic for the game/trailer it looks like Sumia is the wife of Chrom holding the baby Lucina as well. So it feels like I'm supposed to choose Sumia to be Chrom's partner. It seems to work for Lucina. And Cynthia, when reclassed as a Dark Flier looks like she belongs to the family as well, with her blue hair and new dark blue attire. So it's all good and well for me. Though I have to admit, I am somewhat tempted to marry Cordelia and Chrom. The problem though; I can never picture Severa as the child of Chrom, or even the sister of Lucina. Lucina and Cynthia feel closer related. As if Cynthia could be the dopey little sister of Lucina. But with Severa? As Lucina's sister? It feels somewhat out of place. If Severa was really the daughter of Chrom, shouldn't she should be more concerned with changing destiny instead of her mother being so perfect. So I think I've gotta keep Sumia for this pairing. Chrom doesn't deserve a daughter like Severa. The Avatar + Lucina = Morgan [spoiler=reasoning]The potential in Morgan is too great to ignore. Out of all of the possible female partners, Lucina feels like the one I'm closest to as well. I've tried marrying Lissa and Anna, but wasn't satisfied with the love confessions. So I ended up marrying Say'ri the first time. But in hindsight, it was a waste of what could have been. Sorry Say'ri. I guess I'll tag you in with Yen'fay or Tiki sometime! I can't wait to experience how dramatic Lucina's realisation of the avatar as Chrom's murderer will be either. Donnel + Nowi = Nah [spoiler=reasoning]During my first play-through, I put Gregor and Nowi together. Solely because that's how the narrative introduced them to me. Gregor was good guy, yes? But I feel like there's better partners out there. He seemed like a mean and stern father for Nah, which wasn't that great to experience. I think she deserves better. Since it's easy to forget the lifespan of the Manakete, Nowi appears to be a little girl with an old man when paired with Gregor as well. So I wanted to choose a young father to go with Nowi. After hearing about the unholy alliance of Donnel and Nowi on numerous occasions, I have to try this. I have to see this super-powered Nah. The next pairings I'm probably about 60% certain with. Stahl + Cordelia = Severa [spoiler=reasoning]Stahl seems like a lazy guy. His artwork depicts him yawning on a rock. From his support conversations with Severa, it feels like he'd make for a lazy parent. So the rude personality of Severa feels like an appropriate consequence of his effort and influence. The support conversations between Stahl and Cordelia were just so sweet as well. I feel like I ought to keep this pairing together. Stahl and Cordelia can enter the battlefield as Paladin and Falcon Knight alike, with Severa as an Assassin of mine. I have enough Heroes (via Flavia and Donnel) without Severa whilst her severe personality makes the Assassin feel like a natural class choice. Lon'qu + Tharja = Noire [spoiler=reasoning]Tharja is one mean witch. She also doesn't stop talking about the avatar which is pretty annoying. But she's such a heartless and cruel character I could never marry her haha. In this regard, it feels like the pairing with Lon'qu kind of works. Since she couldn't get the avatar, she just had to make do with him. As for Lon'qu, the support conversations provide a really reasonable excuse for the them to get together. I intend to make Lon'qu a Dread Fighter and Tharja a Sorcerer. So they're going to feel like quite an evil pair in combat beside each other. Lon'qu's conversations with Noire are quite endearing. While I also like the fact that Lon'qu will give Noire dark hair. I had been playing around with the idea of Gaius, the sugar assassin, and Tharja hooking up. But a Noire with orange hair just doesn't work for me. I know it's just a name. But I really do feel like Noire should have dark hair. Light hair simply feels like a miscreation or a malfunction of sorts. As if I'm messing with destiny haha. These are the pairings I'm really quite uncertain about though. The ones I need help with. Especially the last pair. Vaike + Maribelle = Brady [spoiler=reasoning]I notice the artwork for Brady depicts him with blonde hair, so I'm somewhat inclined to choose a father with a light hair colour. Brady has quite a crass nature too. During my first play-through I stuck Donnel with Maribelle since they were basically left-over partners from other marriages, and the backwater villager nature of Donnel seemed like a reasonable excuse. But after realising how useful Donnel is, I can't think I can pair him with Maribelle again. Vaike on the other hand is quite an attractive candidate, if only for the matching hair colour to Brady's artwork, the convincingly inherited character, and the outright irony of Maribelle marrying such a barbarian. Literally, I'm thinking of promoting Vaike through Barbarian to the Berserker class to add a bit of variety to my game. Gregor + Panne = Yarne [spoiler=reasoning]So after witnessing Gregor's affections for Nowi from my first play-through, I understand that the man has a bit of a thing for shapeshifters. Either that or something that starts with "beast" and ends in "fatality" but I jest hehe. I actually think Gregor and Panne could make quite a decent pairing. Especially with plans to create a wild-man persona for Gregor by promoting Gregor to become another Berserker, like Vaike (there's seriously too many Heroes otherwise). My original pairing for Panne was with Gaius and it seemed to work well, but not enough to convince me to do it again. I want to try something different next time. Gaius + Miriel = Laurent [spoiler=reasoning]I have to admit, this is the pairing which I'm most concerned about. I can't see what Gaius and Miriel have in common, besides providing ranged attacks. But they were ultimately left-overs. The luck of the draw. That is to say that I didn't want to use Libra or Ricken as fathers. Libra is just too weird. And Ricken is too young. I initially paired him with Miriel during the first play-through of the game. But it just felt uncomfortably wrong. Miriel is a confident woman with brilliant smarts to match. It doesn't make any sense that she'd marry a child. Ricken is exactly that. He's just a boy, trying to act older. But you can't fool me. Gaius on the other hand, needs to be a parent. His support conversations with Yarne were so understanding. I have to re-use him again. I intend to make Laurent into another Sorcerer, whoever his parents are. Again to add a little more variety to my game (there's a potential saturation of Sages otherwise). So maybe Gaius and Laurent could be a dark duo, as Assassin and Sorcerer together. But it's all loose anyway. I'm not satisfied. Keeping in mind the pairings I'm more settled on, could you give me some advice on the marriage pairs towards the bottom of my list please? Eternally grateful, Red Falcon
  4. So, I hate keeping characters out of their original classes, because the portraits don't match. Donnel especially, because of that stupid pot on his head (heh, Donny's a pothead). I was wondering, what should I run on Villager!Donnel? Currently, I've got Limit Breaker, Armsthrift, Axebreaker, Aggressor, and All Stats +2, and I'm supporting him with Nowi. God, how much I wish that Villager could promote into Soldier...
  5. I've always been quite fond of the avoid stack. For those unfamiliar with the term, this is where you pile up avoid boosting abilities onto a unit, making them nigh on unhittable. But my question today is, how good is it, really? Is running a set like Odd Rhythm, Lucky Seven, Quick Burn, Outdoor Fighter, Limit Break a bad idea on a Nah!Morgan, for example? Or ingame, giving Sully Outdoor Fighter, Tantivity then reclassing to Myrmidon? What about using single avoid boosting skills on their own. Outdoor Fighter in Apotheosis for example for the universal +10 avoid/+10 hit boost, is that not good? Is Charm for +5 avoid and hit to everyone near Chrom worthwhile? In game, should I look to remove those avoid boosting skills earlier if there's other options (although, I guess in game you're not likely to see more than about 6-8 skills...)? Are avoid boosting skills underrated, or am I overvaluing them? 10 avoid seems pretty decent on it's own, to me, for example. It's mathematically better than DG+ on a front unit, unless the enemy has 80ish+ hit (although running DG+ on a front unit is questionable).
  6. So on my post game team, I find that I mostly have the skills equipped from the 2nd-tier classes (a lot of Galeforce, the weapon breaker skills, Astra, Lethality, Pavise, Aegis, and the weapon expert skills, to name a few). Recently, though, I've seen people on the forums talking about the usefulness of the tier 1 skills. The only ones I ever use are Armsthrift, Vantage, Healtouch, and Miracle (Those last two are only on Sumia, though). My question is, are there any other 1st-tier skills worth using?
  7. I can't decide what I want to do with my female avatar, so I'd love to see what everyone else has done or is doing! What are the classes she has/she'll go through, the skills she has/she'll use, and what of her Asset and Flaw?
  8. So I apparently got both skills for my Libra in my current run, and was wondering which one was better. I have both equipped right now, but I didn't know if I should just choose one of them so Libra can have room for an additional skill? Or should I just equip them both at the same time? That's why I wanted to ask this (And I'm pretty sure there isn't a topic for Renewal vs. Lifetaker)
  9. I have a question about skills, and how they take priority. For instance: Morgan is equipped with both Aether and Vengeance, which are Skill based, and has a Skill stat of 52. This makes Vengeance's proc rate effectively 104%, according to the game - in that event, will it prioritize Aether (with a proc rate of 26%), or will Vengeance go off each time with Aether use being effectively impossible?
  10. I've always been confused as to which skills work. Like with the -faire skills, does it apply for the lead unit if the support unit has it? Do -breakers work and give the hit/avo +50 to the main unit if it's on a support? When you dual strike can you activate luna/aether/ignis/lethality? Does dual guard+ work if either unit has it? Thanks, Andronicus
  11. What I refer as an attacking skill is a skill that activates when your character is attacking an enemy unit. This does not include when your character is being attacked, which is why counter is not a decision. When it comes down to building a character, its generally not a good idea to put two of these skills together because one activates over the other. I know its impossible to get these skills on every unit in the game, but I want to know which one you prefer to use. Example: Your avatar unit can learn all of these skills. When it comes to picking your final set of skills for streetpass, which one would you have on your unit? I prefer to have Ignis on my character because it has a good chance to activate and does a fairly decent amount of extra damage.
  12. I'm not sure if this was already posted but I'll start this since I'm too lazy to look. For me, I say that skills are most important for the children characters, but that's just me. What are your thoughts?
  13. Hey, this is my first post here and I was hoping you guys could help me out. See, I'm currently playing the second run of awakening and this time around I chose a female avatar, I'm thinking of this skill set: Galeforce Ignis Swordfaire Tomefaire Astra/Renewal I'm trying to go for a balanced unit, hence Sword/Tomefaire + Ignis What do you think? I know there's a lot of possibilities with this one.
  14. If you can choose any two skills that work well together for a unit what would your favorite combination be? If you can, describe what unit would make the best use of those skills and what enemies the combination would be most effective against. Assume that the other three skills are All Stats+2, Discipline, and Limit Break. (Yes, I realize not all units can get them) Please don't use Rightful King as one of the skills....:( If you would like, take a look at the Skill Combinations suggested by others in the Your Recommended Skill Combinations section at the bottom of this post! (it's fairly lengthy as of now) Here are some examples of Two Skill Combinations: Lifetaker-Galeforce: Useful for any unit with high Attack and a good weapon; restores up to 100% HP Pavise-Aegis: Useful for any unit with high skill (particularly those with poor defenses); gives extra durability Aegis-Counter: Good for units with high Defense, Skill and HP; weakens effect of magic, bow, and dragonstone, while dealing back damage to (rng 1) sword, lance, axe, beaststone users. Sol-Vengeance: Good for hard-hitting, but fragile, units (ie: Cordelia as Sorcerer); if Sol doesn't activate to heal, Vengeance should prevent an enemy counterattack from felling the unit at low HP. I am particularly fond of the last one. So, anyone have any ideas or strategies involving a pair of skills? Edit: Your Recommended Skill Combinations (Anyone think ranking them is a good idea?) 15. I was wondering which male-only skill to give to Henry!Severa. I plan to switch her classes around quite a bit (so axefaire will be completely useless) and I do not need her for a streetpass team. That leaves Gamble, Wrath, and Counter as viable skills for her. I have the Dread Fighter DLC too, although I'm not sure if those skills can be inherited (so Res+10 and Aggressor if they can be). Right now I'm leaning toward Gamble, as it is effective in all offensive classes and can stack Crit. with forged killer weapons/ruin, although it does decrease hit. What do you think? Does Gamble sound like as good choice, or would other skills, like Counter or Wrath, work better? Unique Skills Severa can receive Barbarian Despoil Gamble Berserker Wrath Axefaire Warrior Rally Strength Counter Possible classes Mercenary Armsthrift Patience Hero Sol Axebreaker Bow Knight Rally Skill Bowbreaker Pegasus Knight Speed +2 Relief Falcon Knight Rally Speed Lancefaire Dark Flier Rally Movement Galeforce Dark Mage Hex Anathema Sorcerer Vengeance Tomebreaker Dark Knight Slow Burn :( Lifetaker Thief Locktouch Movement +1 Assassin Lethality Pass Trickster Lucky Seven Acrobat Troubadour :( Resistance +2 Demoiselle Valkyrie Rally Resistance Dual Support+ War Cleric Rally Luck Renewal Stat mods for Henry!Severa Str +3 Mag +1 Skl +5 Spd +3 Lck -2 Def +2 Res -1 ^Fairly decent, I believe. source: http://serenesforest.net/fe13/children/selena.html
  16. Even though I don't have a large amount of Fe players up where I live, I'm still curious what skills could be considered the best streetpass ones. I've heard of, and quite frankly hopped directly onto the paviseaegisrenewalignis bandwagon, but there has to be something more helpful, of course, if there isn't... What should take up that last skill slot, my personal favorite is armsthrift, only on my my unit though, not the others, otherwise, i'd go with counter or an actually helpful breaker skill. Any other ideas? Any other different sets that clean up even more well than paviseaegisrenewalignis does, other than the breaker monopoly of course.
  17. I have the MU on my Normal Mode/Newcomer file as a Grandmaster with a focus on magic. (Has tomefaire, tomebreaker, +2 All Stats, +10 avoid and Ignis. Now, my Hard Mode/Classic MU has only just started out. He is also focused on magic, with high speed as well. So... My question: What should I do with my Hard Mode MU? Who should I pair him with? Thanks.
  18. So i made this very crude excel sheet that was intended to just be for me, i figured i might as well share it. It's very simple and somewhat clunky to use but it should be nobrainer on how it works and how to use it, any questions just ask. No im not adding Sol, might add Lethality. But my main concern with this sheet was comparing the main damage proc skills to see wich would be most optimal. I'm not going to claim this will be 100 % accurate but it should be pretty close. http://www.mediafire.com/view/?j9bsb2ejwit1t2g Nope i didn't plan placements at all, so it looks pretty messy right now. Probably going to rearrange some boxes so it become more clear and easier on the eye. "Edit" Realised I should move the brave weapon and double boxes, because i had the double part set to automatically change depending on speed versus enemy. And typing in the box wrecked that.. So rearranged thoose and a couple of other boxes to look better "Edit2" Fixed the preview to display the new arrangement "Edit3" Changes to the sheet thanks to feedback from Airship Canon Astra formula corrected Proc rate for Ignis corrected Negative numbers should now be shown as 0 in all results
