  1. Hello everyone. I don't think it's much of a secret that I'm not the biggest fan of Intelligent System's writing, and that includes all of the localized game and not just the most recent ones. The list of issues I have with every installment can be made long, but I'm not here to whine, but to discuss. My question to you is this: if you could change one major thing about the plot in every Fire Emblem installment, what would it be and why? How would it impact - and hopefully improve - the story? I'll start from Blazing Sword, since I cut the NES titles which I've played more slack due to the technical limitations, and I won't bring up the games I haven't played in a while or don't have a great suggestion for. Blazing Sword: change Nergal's modus operandi I considered Blazing Sword's story to be the worst one until Fates came along, and most of it can be chalked up to Nergal being a snoozefest. The guy offers little in terms of personality or even threat, as he keeps letting everything slip through his fingers, but the most offensive thing is how he goes about reaching his goals: killing people off screen to gather invisible energy that can be used to do whatever the plot demands. He usually does this by employing literal emotionless creatures created by him, and just like their master, they also lack anything that makes them interesting. If Nergal had been more active and personally involved with the plot, and had he been more consistent in his actions (not letting people getting away, his Morphs not having more important things to take care of than to deliver the things Nergal need to fulfill his goals, etc.), all of Blazing Sword would've felt a lot more threatening and immediate, as opposed to feeling like a road trip with three BFF's. Path of Radiance: make Ashnard more involved with the plot Ashnard is not recognized by Ike until the final chapter. Instead, we've got the Black Knight supplying people with literal plot armor in the background. Honestly, I don't even understand why the Black Knight really exists when walking around being a force of nature should've been Ashnard's job. Radiant Dawn: remove the Blood Pact This'll probably be my least controversial suggestion. I rather like Radiant Dawn's story and all of the character interactions it offers, but the charm of the story - fighting playable characters with different armies - wears off when one party is forced into it, as opposed to doing what they believe is right. Had that been the case, then the chaotic nature of the plot been far more palpable, and Ashera's appearance would've been more of a "damn, did we fuck up" as opposed to "way to go, irredeemably evil, corrupt politicians". Awakening: focus on one of the three arcs Awakening's plot is fragmented, which is a shame since all three arcs could've been great games had they been given the chance to shine. Instead, a lot of things feel half-assed. I personally would've liked seeing Walhart being the main villain, with the Shepherds having to drive him and his forces off of their continent before going to Valm and defeat him there. Walhart had the most potential of all the villains in Awakening, having no bullshit dragging down his character, with his only problem being a rushed filler arc, rather than any fault with his own character. A clash of ideologies between him and Chrom would've been far more interesting than defeating yet another evil dragon. Fates: remove Valla Removing Valla would almost automatically solve some of Fates many major issues: Anankos wouldn't exist, Garon would actually have to be his own character and the story could focus on the main conflict as opposed to completely removing the supposed theme of the story out of the equation. This would also help individual characters, such as Xander coming across as less of an idiot for not noticing his father is a literal monster as opposed to a figurative one, and Azura wouldn't need to be a plot device and exposition bot with legs. Anyway, those are my ideas: what are yours?
  2. Hello everyone. This thread will contain unmarked endgame spoilers for the plot of Echoes. Please turn back now if you haven't finished the game. There are several things about Rudolf and his plot that I want to discuss in order to get people's opinion on it, While it has been known - and oftentimes ridiculed - for a long time, I want to know if I've missed some important detail that makes his plan easier to understand. First of all, do you buy his motivations and methods? Because while I can understand hiding Alm because of his Brand, and that the Duma Faithful would assassinate him, I don't understand why he needs to seal Mila first in order to make Zofia stand up to Rigel and then kill Duma, when the country got close to imploding. Why didn't he start with sealing Duma, who was closer and he had seen become more and more crazed? Mila seems to be fine when we meet her later on, so was she sane when he went for her? I'm not quite sure why he took the obvious detour and placed all his eggs in Zofia's basket. Secondly, why did he have to die? I mean, if Alm's a hero who has reached him, hasn't he passed whatever test Rudolf had planned for him? Why doesn't he offer to make peace with Alm and then tell him everything worth knowing? I'm not sure I've read everything worth knowing about him in English, so I might've missed something during my Japanese playthrough. However, to me, it looks like his whole plan is still really, really shaky an full of questionable elements.
  3. So I think we can all agree that Faye is probably the most disliked out of the playable cast. Yet, despite that, i found myself liking her quite a bit. So to find out why I like Faye and why i'm defending her, we need to take a close look at her character she's one note so analyzing her character isn't that hard. To begin, we know that Faye has a crush on Alm, which is her main trait. She's had that crush on Alm ever since they were children, and when Faye was saved by Alm, that's where the crush likely depend to it's current point. "I remember when we were children and those knaves cornered us in the woods. You came to our rescue like a knight in shining armor. Ha ha. Look at you! You’re blushing! But it’s true. You’ve always been my knight, you know? Then and now." -Act 1 Base Convo. One of the things that i really appreciate about Faye is that, despite being obsessed with Alm, she genuinely loves him. "You always were braver than me." -Act 1 Base Convo. "They said I talk too much about you. They want to know what’s happening with me, not you. But they don’t understand that I AM writing about myself! Or at least I’m writing about what matters to me…" -Act 4 Base Convo. And then of course, there's Faye confessing to Alm in their A-Support. So Faye gets called a yandere....pretty commonly actually. But i don't see her as one. Outside of maybe the obsession (more on that later), she doesn't fulfill the qualifications of being a yandere. She doesn't stalk Alm, she doesn't go after any of the girls that talk to Alm, and most importantly, she handles the freindzone pretty well. However, one counter-argument you might have is her lines in her C and B-Supports with Alm where she says "Now, shall I head back out there and slay more of your enemies for you?!","I'll fight for any cause you desire!", and "I drank a bunch of tea, so I'm ready to kill in your name! Just point me at your enemies and watch me go!". Perfectly understandable counter-argument, however, Faye being a yandere simply isn't true in my eyes. Let's take a look at the facts. There's one thing that Alm says in his B-Support with Faye that caught my attention: "But I'm worried about the toll this war is taking on her...". Basically, what the game is telling us here is that Faye wanting to kill enemies in Alm's name is more of an effect of the war rather than Faye herself. There is more evidence to support this. For starters, Faye is against joining the Deliverence, saying it's too dangerous. In fact, she only obviously joins the Deliverance with the sole thought of staying close to Alm and keeping him safe. "I'll grow however I can to keep you safe, Alm." -Faye's promotion quote. In addition, Faye is probably the least experienced with weapons. Sure, she did train with Mycen ("I was taught by the best." -one of Faye's victory quotes) but she's the only one of the Ram Villagers that has no indicator of what her canon class is (it's Pegasus Knight if Cipher is any indication), compared to Tobin, who shot some arrows, Kliff who practiced magic, and Gray, who sparred with a fence. And in her A-Support, when she's confessing to Alm, she says "And we'll never have to fight another battle for as long as we live!". Tl;dr, the war was temporarily affecting Faye's mind. At the end of the day, she wants to live a peaceful life without fighting. Ok, so is Faye actually obsessed with Alm? Yes. But how far does this obsession go? Clearly not far enough to the point where she ignores the consequences. "I thought about going after him just to teach him a lesson, but I didn't. I'd probably get killed by some foul beast out there on my own, you know?" -Faye's recruitment conversation with Celica. So despite her obsession, she's still able to think logically. Now here's another counter-argument you might have: the infamous Support Convo with Silque. The common thought is that Faye hates everybody but Alm. This is like, not true actually. In the prolouge and the beginning of Act 1, we clearly see that Faye and the rest of the Ram Villagers are good friends. Adding to that, Faye is also good friends with Celica. "Oh, Celica! You're back! Gosh, how long has it been? I've missed you so much!" -Celica's recruitment conversation with Celica. So the question is, why was Faye rude to Silque? Well, it's very possible that Faye just has a serious lack of social skills with girls. Think about it. Growing up, Faye's only friends were all guys. Sure, Celica was there but only for a short while (it was recently brought to my attention that Celica was in Ram for three years). And even though she was rude to Silque, Faye realized her mistake and apologized. On a more general note, Faye does give other members of the army compliments when they land a crit. I know i mentioned this before, but Faye's A-Support with Alm was what really made me appreciate her. When she begins to confess, she acknowledges that it isn't the best time for it (they are on a battlefield). And despite her obsession with Alm, when he rejects her, she takes it reasonably. She doesn't get angry, she just accepts it. In fact, she likely knew from the start that she would be friendzoned. "I should've known such a thing wasn't really possible." -Faye in her A-Support with Alm. This here is basically further evidence that she genuinely loves Alm. The things i talked about above are also a reason why i think Faye is a better character than Tharja and Camilla. Tharja stalks Robin and even went as far as to curse him with a cold just so she could take care of him ...whereas Camilla just straight up tried to kill Corrin in both Birthright and Revelation. Meanwhile, Faye genuinely loves Alm and would never wish or inflict harm upon him. Now, i know what you're gonna say. "Tharja and Camilla at least had more to them." This is true. You know what else is true? Tharja and Camilla having 20+ Support Convos, with Camilla being story relevant. Faye only has two Support Convos and isn't story relevant. Tharja and Camilla had the advantage (is it really though) of being in games where everybody could Support with almost anybody. Really, a more fair comparison would be comparing Faye to Marisha from FE3/12. The only reason i brought up Tharja and Camilla is because Faye gets compared to them a lot from what i've seen. Conclusion: this is basically just me explaining why I like Faye. Is this post meant to change your opinion on her? No. Is Faye a deep, complex, deconstruction character like some have claimed? No. Do i think she's getting a lot of unnecessary hate? Yes. Do you have to agree with me on that? No. Would i like it if people saw her a bit more positively now? Yes. Will that happen? Well, who knows? Anyway, go ahead and tell me what you think of this essay i made regarding why i like Faye.
  4. I have watched the whole story of Echoes (not having money for a 3DS + the game sucks), and I found myself with this question:
  5. I decided I would compile all the translated supports and base conversations that we have so far on here like PKThoron did over on Reddit. All of the following are from Zigludo's, Justletmepostdamn's and Kyleenim'spastebin so credit to them. Credit to NaokiP for any unlinked supports and memory 4, and to VincentASM for memory 3 and Berkut's Despair. And also PKThoron for compiling them first. SUPPORTS: BASE CONVERSATIONS: Please make sure to link any new supports or base conversations that have been posted so I can add them to the OP. Thanks and I hope this makes someone's life more convenient. MEMORIES: ENDINGS: DEATH QUOTES: EXTRA:
  6. Sadly, most characters get unnamed spouses in the end. But I feel like a lot of our known units have some chemistry together, romantic or otherwise. To be completely honest, the only canon couple throughout all of SoV I wholly support is Boey and Mae. I was kind of bummed out by it cos it is sort of predictable but.. maybe in the end I'm a sucker for relationships like that. They jest and bicker, but in the end completely respect each other! Sincerely, the best couple in the whole game, in my opinion. Alm and Celica..never did it for me. I don't hate them, but whatever connection they were supposed to have aside from fate was never apparent to me. I.. like Celica/Saber better. The player gets to see their relationship develop, though I'm sure in canon its only a father/daughter type thing. I'd really love more content of them together, cos they just.. mesh? I guess? I mean, we get to see Saber care for Celica in a way that isn't, "I'm holding onto feelings I had when I was like, 8, so I'm obligated to care and worry for you, Celica!" Alongside that, I think Clair/Alm has a lot more flavor to it. Maybe I just like to experience the development of the relationship, instead of taking it in good faith that both parties fully love and respect each other. The thought of Clair getting off her high horse for a bit to learn more about Alm and his childhood, his village, how he grew up.. that really warms my heart. And yes, there's Clair/Gray, but.. I really dislike dynamics like the one they have. The whole "boy chases after girl for an indefinite period of time before she gives in and marries him" isn't my thing. I am unsure if there's any canon interaction between the two, but I'd love to see Genny and Est together.. And yes, I know, Est has a supposed boyfriend during the game, but.. C'mon, Genny's sweet soft-spoken personality alongside Est's cheery straightforward self? I'd absolutely love to see how that plays out! As friends, or more. Those are just the ones I cared about during the course of the story, but I'm sure there are other really great, not-obvious relationships/friendships I passed over. I'd like to see Conrad with someone, just cos he's so pretty. Somebody really needs to kiss his face. pls.
  7. Part 4 in this game, specifically on Celica's side, really bugged me, and I really am not sure what the writers were trying to do with this. It comes out of nowhere and Celica acts SO MUCH out of character from how she was in parts 2 and 3. The beginning of part 3 didn't bug me at all, I actually kind of liked it, considering that's a fairly human reaction, but I really don't understand what's up with her in part 4. Would anyone care to explain to me what exactly was supposed to be the point of Celica acting like this, because I really don't understand. This also extends into part 5, obviously, but still. This is actually the only part of the game plotwise that seriously baffles me, and I really don't get it.
  8. The prequel dlc has arrived in Japan and you're rewarded with weapons at first clear. What happens when you upgrade them? I saw Clair's Lance get -1 weight when maxed.
  9. I have heard that Shinon and Gatrie leave after Chapter 8, but is Chapter 5 the last time you see them before reuniting with them later? I just finished Chapter 5 and got separated from them. I'm worried because I left them with quite a few items and would prefer to have those items for the early stages of the game. Or at least, do they come back with the items they had when they left? Also, do they return with the same stats?
  10. When you are finished with chapter 6 are you allowed to freeroam around the area or is the game just done.
  11. Wondering what those who caved and pirated are thinking of the game. The only real writeup I've seen is from somebody on the subreddit who did Hard/Classic and is saying it's the worst in the series and below even Gaiden; it'll be nice to have a broader sample so I can adjust my expectations accordingly.
  12. Hi everyone! As you might know, thanks to the datamine we know that Grima is in the game. Are you okay with that? Personally I am quite happy about it. I never cared for him as a villain but I like that he is finally getting a backstory and that we get more contents.
  13. So, by now, many of you know about the leaked information of the Upcoming title, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Or should I say, the entire game was leaked. For Data miners and those who run this site, that's basically gold and worthwhile information. But for the franchise, the sales of this upcoming title, and the possibility of more "Echoes" style remakes, I believe this is a disaster. The entire game was Leaked, and people can play the entire JP version of the game before even one copy is sold. This act of leaking the entire game will definitely impact the market of this game in some way. A BAD way. Let me put the financial situation like this: The law of demand states that when the price of something decreases, demand will increase. When the price increases, demand will decrease. But this law is thrown out the window when the black/grey market comes into play. I mean, ROMs, leaks, that sort of stuff. When that is put out for the world to see before there is even a chance for the demand to rise or fall in accordance with the price, (not counting pre-orders) demand suffers. People will no longer pay money to get what they want. People who cannot afford the game or who simply don't want to wait or pay, can screw over any regard for the people who want to pay for it, and get it free. This effects more than the sales. This effects the equality of the experience. This answers questions that would usually be left to the player to answer with his/her playthrough of a game - but with no real incentive to buy it or find out through a purchased copy, this means that there is no mystery or wonder to the game's presentation. There is little joy in playing a game where you know everything about it. Why do people avoid spoilers? This also effects future remakes, like FE 4 or 6 remake that I know you and I are wanting. Based on what, you ask? The sales. Believe it or not, lots of things depend on people buying the game, and it's a damn shame that some Japanese idiot leaked the entire game before it could be sold. Before any transactions could be completed. You think that those pre-orders have costs put in just when you order them? Nope. The company doesn't even get the money until the game is shipped/brought to you. Then it's a sale. This leak, and those who download/endorse this behavior for future releases of other games (not just FE) is a giant Middle finger to the developers who worked on this game, as well as the people who saved up money and put in effort to buy this game. To finally get it on release day. It's unfair, unjust, illegal, and worst of all, hypocritical for those who download it. Do you support this franchise or not!? I'm saying all this because I feel like I'm the only person concerned. Mangs made a good portion of one of his videos addressing this: All in all, that was the nicest way I could put all my thoughts together without spouting anger and slurs into the faces of anyone who reads this. I'm REALLY ANGRY, and definitely still buying this game. I get that some people can't afford it. That's where the grey market is. But for those who download it for the game because you JUST CAN'T WAIT, can you be anymore disrespectful? The way that hypocrisy works is like this: you say you hate the way something is or how something is done, and you turn around and do or aid in what you said you hate. But does hypocracy work that way in something you love?
  14. It's not something significant but I have this theory coming out of my mind. Short version: Long version: BONUS (Paralogue 6/Birthright spoilers):
  15. Hey everyone long time lurker first time poster i just recorded the intro scenes to SoV and got some help subbing them i didnt know where else to share so enjoy :)
  16. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST LOOK AT MILA'S FACE! Also, Alm and Celica hug each other. L-Lewd.
  17. Clive got a pretty big boost in relevance in Echoes that he's pretty much a main character. It went from Clair slightly and Mathilda acknowledging his existence to: Clair, Mathilda, Python, Forsyth, Lukas, Delthea and even the non-playable Fernand says something special if Clive dies. They really made him important this time around.
  18. So for the last two games we've had sort of a DLC campaign. Future Past in Awakening and Heirs of Fates for...Fates (side note I would have rather these two stories were styled more as additional campaigns where you actually have to beat maps the unlock the next instead of being DLC you can choose the chapter of). These were both kind of what if scenarios showing bad futures. Gaiden does have an evil god in it but I don't think the story really lends itself to this sort of additional material (mainly since Doma seems surprisingly benign for someone with such obviously evil aesthetic and underlings). But you know what could be cool idea? Playing Rudolf's story. There's a lot of information we don't have regarding Rudolf and its info the game probably won't be able to drop naturally since his motivations are a late game plot twist. Imagine a campaign where you get to see exactly how and why he gave Alm to Mycen. What his relationship with Doma was like (who suggest this crazy gambit, the god or the king?), the origins of the falchion and also just the general state of Rigel prewar that would lead such a crazy plan to be a good idea. You could have all the enemy bosses of Gaiden be the playable units supporting Rudolf as he invades Sofia and cap it off with a climax in which Mila actually appears in person and serves as the final boss that Rudolf must defeat with the Falchion. Anyway just some idea that's rummaging around in my head this morning. Would like to hear thoughts on its potential as well as other things we could see from additional DLC stories.
  19. https://fireemblemwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Heroes_artwork There's three pages, just so you know. The main menu character collage seems to be a bunch of individual images instead of one big one. Also, there's... a couple character variations that have yet to be added to the main game. More specifically, a finished set (normal + attack + skill + damaged) and another that only has three pieces of artwork that show little more than the character's face. So, without further ado:
  20. So, I don't really care which side I choose, so long as the cute girls survive. Can I get a list of which people die so I don't end up dating them?
  21. The old topic hasn't been posted in for a month, so now with the Europeans having had the chance to play the game some more, are there any chapters that stood out in terms of difficulty? I have played Birthright and Conquest on hard classic mode, so this is based upon that difficulty. Birthright Chapter 11 (To the Sea) - I don't see this one being mentioned very often, but this was one of the most difficult Birthright chapters for me. A lot of fliers when you only have a limited amount. When the units to the west (of which half are promoted) start moving I got overwhelmed each time. My mistake was that I waited for them with one group in the middle. When I sent half of my units north and the other half to the south I was able to clear out both groups separately. Chapter 21 (Burning Falls) - Those stonefaces... So annoying. Dark Falcon Orochi saved my tail with those a few times. Other than this Birthright wasn't too difficult for me. I hear chapter 23 being mentioned a lot but this one wasn't a big problem for me. I just made sure every unit in attacking range of the enemy (I usually had them wait on a bridge, where Camilla's dragon vein didn't hit) was healed up and it didn't matter that my other units were damaged since the DV can't kill them. Conquest Chapter 10 (Unhappy Reunion) - Predictable, but the one that took me most tries out of all. I played too defensive at first but then I saw a video suggesting it's better to play offensive and then it worked first try. Chapter 19 (Kitsune Lair) - Those illusions with pass screwed me over quite a few times. Eventually I had beastkiller Effie nearly solo the map. Chapter 23 (Possessed) - Had a few close calls with Hinata's group and wasted two rescue staff uses in Takumi's room (damn that Lunge guy). Chapter 25 (Ryoma) - My Avatar couldn't take on Ryoma, so I had to defeat Saizo and Kagero. Bow Knight Niles with Lucky 7 and Shurikenbreaker really saved my tail here. That hallway on Kagero's side is a nightmare. I made sure I had the spy shuriken guys cleared out by turn 7. Chapter 26 (Treason) - Iago's staves didn't even bother me that much but that bottom room with 5 generals and 5 berserkers charging you at once was tense. Xander and Camilla could barely survive it. Luckily Hans doesn't move (and 1 range lol) and Iago was easily beaten by Kaze. Endgame (Night Breaks Through) - Well, let's just say I'm happy Chapter 27 was pretty easy. I blew all my rescue stave uses so I had to do this the 'legitimate way'. I can't imagine doing that on lunatic, since Endgame hard is sooo much easier than lunatic. Those 4 paired riders were the most difficult part by far, I could barely clear them out in one turn. I managed to do this without losses in about 6 tries though. I can't imagine doing this chapter without rescue and pass in lunatic. Winds of Change and Hinoka weren't too difficult for me. In Winds of Change I just turtled my way through, really slowly. Hinoka I thought was one of the most fun chapters, battling over the dragon veins as to prevent some units from moving far. I got beaten once by Azama's counter (every time I faced damn Azama in Conquest I forgot he had counter) but otherwise this chapter wasn't too bad. So what are your hardest chapters in both routes?
  22. Does anyone know the requirements that must be fulfilled in order to have the characters who can die survive? Obviously there are some unavoidable ones, but I'm scared I will have to see some of my favourite characters die if I don't do it right. I am playing Conquest, but Birthright ones are also welcome.
  23. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12034499/1/As-Fate-Decrees Summary: Anankos was defeated a century ago. Hoshido, Nohr, Valla, and the rest of the continent enjoyed a long lasting peace under the reigns of their hero kings and queens. As fate decrees, however, peace is destined to be undone. Now their descendants must struggle not only to maintain order against an ever increasingly chaotic world, but to survive. - Artorias Growing up in Valla, one grew accustomed to the cold. The country was a combination of Hoshido and Nohr's northern lands, gifted to King Corrin a century ago by the hero kings Ryoma and Xander. The Hoshidan half was bountiful and fertile, and the vast majority of Valla's harvests were grown on it. The Nohrian half was rich in ores and minerals, and as such many Vallites made a living through either farming or mining. Summer and Autumn had good harvests, more often than not but the winters were always bitter and harsh. Even inside the relative warmth of Valla's "Hall of Kings and Queens", Artorias could feel winter's bite. Fitting for such a grim day. The young man was kneeling before the largest statue in the stoney hall, built in it's center and ever so carefully maintained. It was a statue built in the likeness of the first king of Valla. The new Valla, at least. His golden eyes were set not on the features of the statue, but on the name engraved upon it's base. "King Corrin-Kamui Arianites I..." Artorias read aloud, his voice heavy and somber. "I wonder what you would make of this. During your good years you were considered an excellent ruler. During your best years, a hero." Even behind the stone doors that sealed the Hall, Artorias could not shut out the fevered cries of his people. "But then there were your later years. I suppose even the greatest of heroes cannot remain as such, whether through their own will or cruel circumstance." Artorias had never been able to relate to his great-grandfather. Many tales were told to him, but from what Artorias could gather he was a very different man from Corrin. He would likely be a very different King, as well. Gazing at the statue's features then, Artorias noted that he only scarce resembled the First King. Queen Azura Arianites' blood ran stronger through him, by his grandfather King Shigure-Socrates Arianites. Artorias stood tall, as he did, and was built strong yet agile as well. He bore the same aqua blue hair as his grandfather and great-grandmother, and shared his fair complexion with many Vallites. The Northern country had many sun-less days and long winters, after all. "Brother..." Yes, many traits of Azura's blood indeed. However he did not have the red eyes of Corrin or Kana. He was not born a dragon first, for only Corrin himself and Kana were born as such, and thus his dragonstone unleashed significantly less power compared to them. The gift the two shared came with a deadly curse, however, and they had bore to their end. "Brother. It's time." He could not even awaken the sacred sword of their house through his will, like his great aunt Kana-Korrinus could. Yet, as Artorias rose to his feet and turned his gaze on his twin sister, their golden eyes meeting each other in the dimly lit hall...he knew he must wield it all the same. The Yato lay flat along Astraia's palms, safe within it's golden sheath. Artorias took the blade with a nod and strode towards the doors of the Hall, leaving his musings on the First King behind him. The sound of his and Astraia's boots echoed throughout the stoney hall. "Brother, must it really be you that does this? Sir Drusus volunteered the moment of the sentencing. This is not-" "I must do this, sister." Artorias interrupted her, his voice blunt. "It is my duty as Valla's King." Just before he reached the stone doors he felt Astraia's hand clasp his left shoulder. Once again their golden eyes met, but this time the empathy and fear in his twin's gaze rang true for him. They, too, were very different people, but they were siblings all the same. Astraia had the kindness and empathy their ancestors were so well known for. "Astraia." Artorias' voice was softer now, as he gently moved Astraia's hand. "It is the duty of a Vallite Royal. I'd...not have it fall to you." Perhaps, in a way, Artorias had these traits as well. "You need not bear this burden alone!" Astraia tried to put anger in her voice, but she could find none. There was only sorrow and pain in it, pain that Artorias felt as well. All he could do was try to reassure his sister. "It's just...it's not right that this be your first act as King. This should not be a mark for what your reign will entail." "I know, and I do not." He stroked her arm gently before turning to the doors one last time. "But it does matter whether it is right or not. It is simply my duty, and I must carry it out." For one such as Artorias, this was a far more emotional display than normal. He could not afford to have such emotion make itself present outside of the Hall. He did not do this out of emotion, but of duty. They were right at the doors now, and the voices were louder than ever. The emotionally charged cries of their people. They called for blood. They called for peace. They called for revolution, and they called for order. Artorias would not be able to give them either. "The prisoner is in position, your majesty." The moment Artorias opened the stone doors he was met with the dutiful Edelfelt siblings. Edric was Astraia's caretaker, and Eris was his own. The silver-haired Edric had been the first to speak, and he fell right in line with Astraia as the two walked the stone path towards the city square. "Sir Drusus remains on stand-by. If you ever choose to change your mind, simply-" "Give the word. I know, Edric. Astraia informed me, and I must thank sir Drusus for his kind offer." Artorias needed to focus now, even if those closest to him wished otherwise. Ashen haired Eris was not so quick to speak as her older brother, as she often was, but she gave her liege a look similar to the one Astraia had, back in the Hall. The quarter was amongst the people now. Lined up against the houses and buildings that were so prevalent in the city of Valla. Not all of them could fit into the city square, but all the same they wanted to witness the events that were about to unfold. This was the first execution held in Valla since the earliest days of the First King. Artorias supposed he could not blame them for their eagerness. It was also...a heavily controversial event. Artorias was genuinely surprised, and relieved, that the common-folk had not stormed the wooden platform set up in the square. It was guarded by Sir Drusus and his men, armoured and armed for any possible threats. No doubt he had other soldiers set up throughout the city, scouting to make sure nothing would make this day bloodier than it was already bound to be. Artorias appreciated it, more than he could ever show. The King ascended up the steps of the platform, his sister and retainers behind him, with the mumblings and cries of his people soaking into the back of his mind. They were not what was important right now. All he needed to do was perform this duty, and get to work on restoring Valla's peace. Once atop the platform Artorias set his golden eyes on the prisoner. He was forced onto his knees, feet and hands bound tight, and he did not even look up to his King. Instead he rested his neck on the block of wood provided. He already accepted his fate, it seemed. Sir Drusus, of course, stood just behind the prisoner, halberd in hand. He was clad in the silver and black Valla's finest near always wore. The golden Vallite star was painted onto his breastplate, that all who faced such a warrior knew which country he hailed from. With his short, soft lilac hair, but hardened face, Sir Drusus was the very picture of a fine general. Artorias gave the older man a meaningful look, and with but a word he raised his halberd and banged it's base against the wooden platform. Once, twice, and on the third bang the common-folk quieted. "High Priest Thasus Quent." Artorias' voice carried throughout the square as he spoke. "You have been charged with Treason, Sacrilege, Murder, and Queenslaying." He paused, letting the last and greatest crime hang in the air to compose himself. "You have been found guilty of these crimes by the Court of Valla. Crimes punishable by death." Artorias unsheathed the golden Yato from it's sheath, the blade gleaming beneath the Vallite sun. In his hand rested the sword of a hero. The "Crux of Fate". The "Seal of Flames". It was said that it was only to be wielded by the greatest hero of a given era. Artorias could not help but note that he did not feel much a hero, especially with that blade in hand. "Do you have any last words?" "We are a godless nation!" Thasus cried out. "Heathens and damned, the lot of us! Valla had true king. A true god! And your ancestor slayed him!" Artorias said nothing. He would not interrupt the man's last words, regardless of how much he wished to. Again, though, his sister Astraia was not the same person as he. "You speak of the Silent Dragon? He was no King, and scarce a god. He was mad man! A dragon perhaps, great and powerful indeed, but degenerated beyond all hope." Astraia spoke with fire in her voice. "A pitiable soul, one that needed to be put to rest. Our ancestors are no god-slayers. Our people are not heathens. We live only because they chose to act." "God-slayers we are! Descendants of god-slayers and worshipers of god-slayers, and damned we shall remain! For it is a crime far, far worse than Queenslaying!" Thasus retorted, looking not to Astraia but to the crowd before him. Artorias felt his eye twitch at the statement. The rage that swelled in his chest at the condemned's words was such he needed to bite his lip to keep his silence. "Without the Silent Dragon who do we worship? To whom to we look to in prayer? We have no Dusk Dragon of Nohr. We have no Dawn Dragon of Hoshido. No god cares for Valla! No god cares for us!" He raised his head off the block, and even such a subtle movement was enough to have Sir Drusus ready his halberd. Artorias raised his hand, however, giving the knight the command to stand down. Thasus would have his last words. And then he would die. "I implore you, my good people. With no gods to care for us we are at the mercy of our mortal rulers. Each and every one of us is on a platform. A block! With royal blade hanging above our heads. How long before you find yourself speaking your final words? How long before you find yourselves in my position?" Thasus laid his head back along the block, and he closed his dark eyes. "What I have done, I did for the Silent Dragon. For our True King and our God." He took a calming breath, and he sighed. "What I have done, I did for Valla." What were the words of his grandfather, Shigure-Socrates? "From my experience, it is the maddest of men that oft give the greatest of speeches". Artorias believed his words then, and he believed them now. Gripping the Yato's hilt with both hands, King Artorias-Akihiko Arianites I took his position alongside the condemned. Artorias raised the Yato above his head and, with but a moment's hesitation, he let out a single whisper. "This is for Mother." The Yato cut clean, and the traitor's head rolled.
