  1. Hey all, Welcome to the first ever,(that I am aware of) Serenes Forest Biweekly Battle Sprite Showdown! ---- Many thanks to all who offered ideas, and suggestions! So much great feedback, and much thanks goes to Lenh, Ghast, and Levy for suggestions on format for rules and competition, and to all who offered advice or ideas... Special kudos to Lenh for going over each part of the original post! With that out of the way, lets get down to it! ----- THEME/TOPIC: Match Game, Make a battle sprite that matches the artwork or mug of an existing Fire Emblem character. can be any of entries from the series(ex. FE13, FE BS satellite, etc.) ENTRIES: An example of what to post. [Name of character] Lyn [Entry Division] Splice/Edit -Base used for Splicers/Editors(non-Optional), Pose/Skeleton or early form for Custom Sprite(Optional) -Your Entry -Reference/mug to illustrate or be used for the concept or theme. -Post reference/art used in spoilers below [spoiler=Original Art/Reference] Lyn is one of the few Fire Emblem GBA sprites to have a mug and sprite, and even character art that actually match pretty well... so, lets make some more, shall we? ------ As this is our first Biweekly Battle Sprite Showdown competition, let me lay out some ground rules. [spoiler=Rules] RULES: 1) only 1 entry per contestant, either in the Full Custom division or in the Splice/Heavy Edit division. 2) No voting for your own entry! 3) Entries should be limited to 16 colors.(15 colors+ 1 background color) This is more of a guideline, but good to follow for style and challenge reasons. Colors may be custom or using GBA sprite palletes. 4) No posting previous/old works. SPLICE/HEAVY EDIT DIVISION NOTES > Contestants must be able to show work if splice/edited nature of the sprite is under question. FULL CUSTOM DIVISION NOTES > Again, Skeleton/early version is not required to be posted, but recommended. (This is more for newer battle spriters to learn from/reference) [spoiler=Voting and Winners] VOTING: Voting will be split into three categories, -Best Full Custom -Best Splice/Edit. -Best Overall Battle Sprite >Voting will run for 3 days WINNERS: Winner of Best Overall Sprite may also be the winner of Best Full Custom, or Best Splice/Edit category. > Winner of the Best Overall Sprite gets to choose the next theme/topic of the following contest. > Winner of the Full Custom Division gets to provide a skeleton pose. > Winner of the Splice Division gets to provide a base sprite to splice for the next contest. > Winner with the highest votes total gets to provide a reference/original art. Runners-up will be the three contestants with the next highest votes following the winners. > The Runners-up of the three categories will get to provide their choice of either one base sprite each for splicing, a reference, or a skeleton pose. > Winners and Runners-up must provide their choices within 3 days of the host's private messaging. Host will provide the next theme/topic if no reply in 3 days. The Winners of each category of the contest will also receive a custom banner and trophy sprite which they can display in their signatures for bragging rights. A thread will be kept updated chronicling past events and winners for the community. ---- Any further questions or concerns can be PMed to the current host!(That's me Errant, currently) ...or posted either in the feedback thread or within this thread itself. Deadline: Monday, February 9th, 2015... 11:59pm PST (ie... about 2 weeks) ...1 day extension. Hope you all enjoy and have some fun! Lets get spriting! :D PS: I have currently left out animations as a category. We may do another of the Competition weeks focused on animations but as for now they are just bonus. Might garner you some extra votes if people think it looks cool. If we have enough interest for animations, we may include that as a division/category of future showdowns, or have showdowns focused on animations. ...any other suggestions or ideas on the format/rules/deadline will be taken into account. My apologies if this is still too wordy... we'll work on that. ;) EDIT: voting thread is up! Go vote!
  2. Updated the topic title, because I'm a Jane-of-All-Trades I'll be dumping some of my sprite-work, written works and images from an FE-inspired J-RPG I'm making ( female lead, brown hair, uses bows, 'nuff said ). That 3rd Tier project is going to take too much of my time, orz. General FE fanart: All my art is done with the mouse. Images from my RPG. Chibi sprites: Cuter than the FE GBA sprites. XD
  3. Hey there. Im new to this kinda forum but lately I have been getting into FE spriting. Formerly I used to do some pokemon splicing, spriting, and whatnot, but until recently I had been away from this line of work. Lately I have been working on FE mugshots and Im going to try doing some more battle sprites later on. I kinda tend to go for a more simplistic kinda look with some characters, cuz I like the classic look more than a super shiny look. I would also say most mugs are splices but I tried really hard to make them original looking. I'm still trying to get into the style of the sprites, so I hope I can get it right sometime, and Im open for improvement, so tell me what you think! Mugshots: Dark Flier Battle Sprite (WIP): dark flier sprites.bmp
  4. Even though people say I'm actually capable of pulling off splices of various FE mugshots, I'm still not quite convinced with it. So yeah, I decided to call my Spriting Thread a "Graveyard" because I still think I stink and suck horribly. Anyways, time to burn and bleed everyone's eyes out with my stuff because it seems that is my talent. NOTE: These are my stuff way back in the past; I'm still trying to get my splicing skills back and I'm a sucky and rusty knife already. In FE6/FE7 Colors: In FE8 Colors: I hope your eyes have burnt and bled out... Oh, and you may suggest me a set of characters to work out with. I'm really a rusted knife.

    RD Edits dump

I did this for a non-FE related project of mine ( I make RPGs as a hobby ). Used to hack RD until I got bored. No, she is in NO way related to Ike. -_- Ellie+Laura obviously. I always thought Tibarn would make a cool Pirate/Berserker. I wouldn't really consider Mia/recoloured Lucy edits though. But since they form the basis/Expies for some of the characters in my game, why not. Will probably post the emotion-sets later on. Said project can be found at an off-site link over here. http://rpgmaker.net/games/5537/ Maybe I'll make a topic for it. Since it is FE-inspired.
  6. This topic will consist only of my spritework. I'm open to any advice/ constructive criticisms. 1st Showcase I thought Garcia's claw beard was a little strange, so I did one of two things: Fix it to be an actual beard, or add a mustache for completion. I couldn't get over how far Dorothy's eyes were when playing FE6; It was uncomfortable. With this she looks a lot better now. Using Usenti, I've begun making a GBA version of Marth's portrait from Shadow Dragon. I haven't put it in action yet; It still needs work.
  7. So, I haven't sprited in, like, over two years, but I restarted, so yay! Well, I have mostly been doing battle sprites but also some face sprites. It goes: Tamer face and battle sprite, Satyr/Faun thing, and a special WIP That's all. Thanks!!
  8. Sorry if it sounds stupid but. how can i replace the face, and battle sprites from characters in a fe rom with custom sprites? i kinda wanted to just change it to a custom character sprites i found because i got a retarded idea in mind.
  9. FOR THOSE OF YOU STOPPING BY FROM THE FUTURE TO TAKE A GANDER: Some of the images in the first few pages, back when I still used Imageshack for uploading, are now broken. HOWEVER, FRET NOT! If you wish to view them, right-click on the image, click "Inspect Element", then right-click on the image link that pops up on the right and click "Open in New Tab." As far as I have tested, this allows you to view the image. If it doesn't work, then you're outta luck, I suppose. *Shrug* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Seeing as how my old sprite topic is deader than a doornail, I feel like starting over, so to speak, with a clean slate. This time around, though, I'll be posting less exclusively FE sprites and more other styles of sprites. Anyway, sprites, in no particular order: Part of a series of sprites in a custom style where I sprite 100 of my favorite characters from my favorites games and franchises, with the stipulation of one character per game. Let's see if I can actually do it. A few FE-battle-styled sprites that I've made some time in the past year or so. A few Nintendo characters in ML3 style. The result of boredom and random scribbles in Paint. Another boredom piece from a while back. Also an experiment with limited colors on the mushroom; the grassy knoll came later. A custom style inspired by 8-bit graphics, though itself isn't. And a few maps: That should be enough for now. Comments and criticisms are always welcome.
