  1. Since we know that both Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate & Dragon Quest III: HD 2D Remake are the remaining upcoming Dragon Quest games that were first announced at on May 26, 2021 (along with the Japanese only Dragon Quest X games, Dragon Quest Treasure, and the Dragon Quest Mobile game has already been released + Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince had come out recently). But since we have heard the sad news of Akira Toriyama had recently passed away on March 1, 2024, due to the Blood Damaged in the Brain he had got. As far as we know that this is going to make Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate technically the last new mainline entry to have Akira Toriyama do work on the Characters and Monster Designs for the franchise. And future new mainline entries like Dragon Quest 13 and so on won't have Akira Toriyama work on the new artworks and monsters. As far as we know nothing about what's in Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate as of right now such as what the Dragon Quest XII characters actually looks like and what the setting takes place in the Dragon Quest World. And we know that Dragon Quest III: HD 2D Remake has been shown with game footages and art assets looks very good in the process. Do you think Akira Toriyama's passing could possibly put the upcoming Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate and as well as Dragon Quest III: HD 2D Remake in progress of development in the art assets and artworks to get these two games actually post pone the release date and Square Enix might have find an another artist to finish up with the rest of the Dragon Quest XII Characters and New Monsters with Akira Toriyama's style to get these artworks finished like say Toyotarou who worked on the art for Dragon Ball Super manga might have to work on the rest of the Dragon Quest Characters and Monster Designs for the Dragon Quest Franchise?
  2. Announced earlier today but I couldn't find a thread around here Press release taken from Gematsu: First look at the Western version, has minor spoilers from the beginning of the game: About the Switch and 3DS versions:
  3. This Terra alt is amazing. Some sick new costumes have been shown since last time, as well as since my last thread, Kefka, Kain and Garland were revealed. Discuss the game we still continue to hope for to get localized eventually once its outside of Arcades. All these alts look so sweet, so many references to art and such like Ramza's. We know that the dev team still plans to have around 50 characters eventually, but we are still unsure when its coming to the PS4 and eventually the west.

  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARHVKZ5K1b0 I don't know much about NieR but I've heard of it from some people on this forum so here you go.
  7. Announced all the way back at E3 of this year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgc2OSZL8e4 I was wondering if we had fellow Star Ocean fans on this board, my major experience with the series is Till the End of Time (3) and the second game. I absolutely loved them both and I regularly go back to play 3 quite often, it has some of my favorite music, and one of my favorite action RPG battle systems. Fayt and crew were also all pretty cool characters, Claude had his cool set of characters as well. I still need to play 1 and 4 haha.
  8. Its not news that Japanese gaming companies like Sega, Capcom, Konami, and Square Enix are not doing so hot. This decline has been going for a couple of years now but its recently come to a head mostly with news of Sega's financial woes and Konami's questionable if not outright criminal business practices. This is due to a number of reasons but they usually center around producing poor products one after the other (ala Sonic Boom), firing their creative minds (Konami), bad DLC practices which dissuade the market (Capcom), and a general shift from producing AAA titles to ports on mobile platforms and Pachinko Machines (Konami and Square Enix). If the recent news is proof of anything this shift in business practice has been detrimental to their companies. For starters Capcom has been on the verge of bankruptcy for the past couple of years and its speculated that they will be bought out eventually despite their strong anti-takeover policy. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/06/capcom_could_be_up_for_sale_after_shareholders_reject_anti_takeover_plan While Sega's CEO has gone on record at admitting their poor products and "betraying" their fanbase their profits are down by 40-50% which is pretty bad for any business regardless and bar Atlus they have no future releases outside of Japan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsGlmNM8OhA Konami has had nothing but bad press as of late with the controversial firing of Kojima and the harsh business practices and shift to Pachinko and mobile games. Needless to say it doesn't seem to be helping given that they voluntarily delisted themselves from the NYC stock exchange as a "cost saving measure" http://www.polygon.com/2015/4/27/8503893/konami-delists-itself-from-new-york-stock-exchange My question is as many good IPs and products these companies produced in the past, what the hell happened? Its as if they abandoned a working strategy and catalog of good products in favor of jumping on the mobile bandwagon and have made one terrible decision after the last. I get that the mobile market is huge in Japan but so far it doesn't seem to be paying off at all for these companies and if anything it has had the opposite effect and is driving them to bankruptcy and irrelevance. Sure you could port a game like Final Fantasy over to mobile but what average mom or joe is going to care about it let alone pay $15 for it? I'm not the only one seeing this am I? Anyone else have thoughts or information regarding the Japanese market? Is there something I'm missing or uniformed on?
