  1. If you find a typo or bug in the currently translated text, please report it on the translation Github. Please do not ask for features or additional translation work. What's this? This is an update to Quirino's Updated Mystery of the Emblem Fan Translation patch. This release is mainly focused on fixing/polishing many of the technical issues with the original patch. For more details see the Changelog section. Credits Original Translation: RPGuy96 - Rom hacking VincentASM - Translations Updated Translation: Quirino Current Project: Robert of Normandy Special Thanks to: Neill Corlett - For the translated title screen. Changelog: Instructions: The ZIP file includes a transition path from v0.14 of the Quirino patch. No 1.1 transition patch was included because the Quirino 1.1 patch converts the ROM to 1.0. This patch also assumes a headered ROM, since that was the format Quirino's patch used. The from_jp folder includes .ips patches for Japanese headered and unheadered ROMs of both v1.0 and v1.1 of Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo. To see which version of FE3 you have, open the ROM in SNES9x and check the Revision under File -> Show Rom Info. To see if your ROM is headered, check the file size. A unheadered, untranslated rom should be 3 MB exactly, or 3,145,728 bytes. A headered ROM has 512 extra bytes(3,146,240 bytes for the total filesize). There is no difference in size between 1.1 and 1.0. Apply the patch to an untranslated FE3 ROM. You can use a patcher like Lunar IPS or Flips, or put the patch file in the same directory as your ROM and give it the same name as your ROM. Most modern SNES emulators should support softpatching. I only had a chance to do spot testing, so it's likely there are some issues I missed. Please report any bugs/other technical issues you find. Reporting issues specific to the 1.1 patch would be especially appreciated. Please do not request any name changes or other script changes. These are out of scope for this project at the moment. The only exception is for cases of inconsistencies in different parts of the game. Sample Screenshots: Download on Github You can also get it on RHDN, but it may not be the latest because of the submission process.
  2. Hello! After a (absurd) amount of time, the first version of the FE3 randomizer is finally here! Download of the lasted version: https://github.com/theonlywilll/XaneRandomizer The randomizer supports randomization for playable units including class, stats, items and supports! For enemies you can randomize their classes, have a chance to them drop a random item, increase their level and stats. Also some other nice options like shop randomization and 0% growth. Of course, you can choose to the randomizer create a log to keep track of the changes. What ROM to use? And what translation patch? When using the randomizer, you will need to choose a ROM. In fact, it can be (almost) any ROM! IMPORTANT: You need a headered version of the ROM! If you can't find a headered version anywhere, you can simply just download a software like TUSH and add a header easily. This is compatible with a totally clean japanese FE3 ROM, both version 1.0 and 1.1. Also, it works with translations patches. The randomizer will use whatever ROM you choose, so to use a translated ROM you need to have one first. Same thing if you want to play with a clean ROM in japanese. Compatible translations patches: Updated translation patch v1.3 by Quirino Bugfix update by Robert of Normandy (recommended) For more in-depth information, you can read the readme.txt that is included with the download or go here! If you want to suggest features, feel free to do so. Oh, also please report bugs! It can be here or the github page. Credits to the people that made the original FE3 nightmare modules, updated them and made even new ones, and the japanese community for making a immense documentation on the game. A big thank you to these people, and a sorry for them for sufferring through the spaghetti FE3 code.
  3. Sorry, I'm pretty new to the lore of the Archanean games. I heard that the Dolhr Army was pretty powerful in that they conquered most of the continent. I want to know what kind of military they have and what they look like outside of the games. Can you guys give me the idea of how powerful they are and what tactics they use?
  4. Just wanted to get some opinions on these portraits I made for a ROM hack since I'm a beginner and I have, like, 80 more portraits to finish. They're all 100% custom (though I used other characters as reference while I was making them), and I tried to base them off of their designs from FE3.
  5. I don't think people give gordon enough credit it Fe3 book 2 and here is my reasoning. Gordon joins your army at level 5 meaning he just needs 5 more levels to use the Orions bolt you get at chapter 7. In-between chapter 1-7 are a lot of Draco knights that a lot of your army has trouble dealing with (the exception being mages and archers). even if you only use gordon for these enemies he should still easily get to level 10 before chapter 7 the snipers class bonus's are absolutely insane giving plus 5 in both skill and speed, 2 strength and defense, 3 res, and best of all 2 mov. snipers are generalists. generally being useful on a larger portion of maps then horsemen. by the time gordon promotes, his stats should straight up be better (unless he gets stat screwed) than George who you also get in chapter 7. having 2 partia users is a very useful thing. I feel like archers get a deservingly bad rap since in most games since they do suck. but in Fe3, were javelins kinda sucks. having archers are very useful. but what do you guys think?
  6. Pretty cool huh? Just thought I'd brag about getting a physical copy hehe.
  7. So I was playing fe3 and the game froze whenever I put Julian on the spot to get the lote shield by the throne. Maybe this is just my emulator? I'm using Openemu on the mac to play this so maybe that's why this is happening.... I'll try to figure it out, but here's my savestate if you want see the problem. 8. Fire emblem has been straying further and further away from the "strategy" part of SRPG and more into the RPG direction. Before I start ranting and raving I want to get my biases out of the way first. My favorite games in the series are Mystery of the Emblem and Thracia 776. and the reasons I love those games so much more then the rest of the series is for 2 reasons. Meaningful class differences and a 20 stat cap. When I say "Meaningful class differences" what I mean is, for specific maps/parts of maps some classes have better tools then others that would better fit the task you're trying to do causing you to use a valuable deployment slot in order to field a unit of that class. For example take Mystery of the Emblem chapter 14, most of the chapter takes place indoors (meaning mounted units can't use there mounts) so you would generally want to bring foot units, but there are ice dragons inside who ignore defense so you'll you want to bring a unit with a lot of hp as well. Also there is a thief running away outside with a warp staff so you'll want to bring at least 1 high movement mounted unit to get that high value item. this Is why I love the fact that mounted units can't be indoors, not because it nerfs mounted unit, but because it adds another layer of strategy and consideration for the player to decide who to bring along for the chapter. Now some people might be hesitant to bench a unit they're "training" for a chapter, but luckily having stats cap at 20 across the board compliments this aspect of the game. By having a stat cap of 20, it doesn't matter if some units miss a chapter, or maybe even a few chapters! first off enemies are usually very bad in these games, but also training units 20/20 to cap their stats yields little reward to the amount of time you put in. also having super high stats are meaningless if whatever class a unit is in is unfit to deal with the level design. in fe4 there are tons of foot locked units with 10/10 combat that will clear the arena without fail 100% of the time, but that doesn't change the fact that it's very hard for them to see combat in the first place since the maps are so vast and spread out. In new games there is very little consideration on who to bring with you because of the level design. In 3 houses i'm never "oh a desert map, better not field any of my cavs" its more like "oh a desert map, sucks my cavs aren't going to see much combat but might as well bring them cause everyone else who I don't use regularly is to under leveled to use even if they would be useful otherwise." don't mean to sound elitist, but I think the pushing of RPG mechanics over strategy mechanics has made the series lose some of what made it unique in the first place. what do you guys think?
  9. Which mainline Fire Emblem game do you feel hard the hardest soldiers and why?
  10. Fingers crossed SF doesn't nuke my first post. What is this? This is a reversed recruitment playthrough of FE3 Book 2. What about Book 1? I did Book 1 in a thread in the Smashboards FE subforum. There weren't a whole lot of people reading regularly there, so I'm mirroring updates starting from Book 2 here so hopefully more people will be able to enjoy this nonsense. You can read the Book 1 run there if you wish. What patch are you using? One that I made myself. I might release it once I'm done with the run and fixed most of the bugs I've found, if there's enough interest. Who replaces who? Here, for those who want to know: Other stuff: In some other runs I've done, I did screenshots/gifs of each character level up. I have since decided this is "dumb" and "bad" because too much of my screenshots were being taken up by level ups rather than actual gameplay. So instead at the end of each update, there will be a "Stat Update" section to show how everyone is progressing and comment on it. Now on to the show. Featuring 2 chapters instead of the usual 1 cuz I felt like it! And also the updates individually were kinda short. Chapter 2-1: Chapter 2-2: Stat update: See y'all next time, probably with just one chapter.
  11. Back before the site overhaul, the gallery section had a wallpaper section in it from Nintendo's old site. I can't currently find any of these wallpapers. The wallpapers I remember seeing consisted of the following images made from TCG art: * Bord, Cord and Barst standing together. * The three Whitewings standing together. They weren't exactly the most dramatic/unique wallpapers, but it'd be nice to have them reposted again. EDIT: Another Fire Emblem site still has the wallpapers.
  12. Pretty self-explanatory, I was just wondering if anyone could link me to a good guide on OG Mystery of the Emblem so I can have all the knowledge I need to start off correctly. Thanks in advance.
  13. https://youtu.be/p4J8TkibEp0 Hey there! It's been a while but I am back with a new video and new mic and all sort of crap to improve with! Please do not hold back on any criticisms!
  14. Kinda felt like playing Book 1 of Mystery of the Emblem again, but I didn't want to do a ye olden spam broken units run for the 100th time, so I thought a PMU would be mildly entertaining and/or salt inducing. So 12 units excluding Marth please, my only rule is that I will use any unit who is recruited or automatically fielded but only for the chapter that it happens in. Might try to do it semi fast but don't expect super high IQ LTC strats from me. Oh right, in the spirit of Wrys, I am not allowing myself to use the vulnerary that replaces him. It will stay in Marth's inventory the entire game, and the PMU is forfeit if it leaves his inventory.
  15. Has anyone ever attempted to hack in the cut chapters and characters into Book 1? I know data for the cut characters (I.E. Wrys, Darros, Roger, Jake, Beck and Gotoh) are in the games data and they even have stats but no portraits. I know next to nothing about SNES hacking but would it be possible to restore them?
  16. We all know that in FE4, all the maps more or less come together to form the whole of Jugdral. I was wondering, could the same be done with the Archanean maps? An example of this I can think of are chapters 7 and 8 of FE3B2, since the two take place in the same area, just further north in the latter chapter. Has anyone ever tried piecing the maps together to get a rough outline of a full in game Archanean map?
  17. I'm planning on hosting a dance panel at Metrocon (Tampa FL). I have a lot of music already, but some of these songs loop and the actual part that I can use is between 30 seconds and 1 minute. Also I can't use every song that comes my way since music for games isn't always something that can be used for dance. I want to try to use a song from every Fire Emblem, so if anyone knows of songs that I can use that are between 2 and 5 minutes with no looping and not from Blazing Sword, Awakening, Fates, or Echoes (I already have songs from those games I can use) I'd really appreciate the extra ears looking for this.
  18. What if the fire emblem heroes were to fall and all their adventures were given to random people? The fire emblem has been corrupted by the presence of the fell dragons, now a lone group of adventurers must travel to the different worlds and pick up where the fallen heroes started. (roleplay is welcome to everyone, would prefer it if we roleplayed on discord. Canon and ocs are allowed
  19. It was kind of a thing in FE4 but just for Seilph but eh. Ok so the gist of Dismount in FE3 and FE5 is that mounted units could not ride indoors and were forced to dismount, they took some stat penalties and were forced to use Swords or (if they were mounted bow users) Bows. in FE3 this method worked better imo because weapon rank was a stat and not divided between different weapons, thus not being a massive crippling blow to mounts, although the final chapters in both Book 1 & 2 can severely weaken your party as a good chunk of the best units in the games ARE mounted, (more so in Book 2, as in Book 1 a number of the best fighters are your Heroes). in FE5, you had individual ranks which could really hurt units like Finn who could only use swords dismounted so the only way he could get this rank up would be to grind dismounted, and could call some balance into play such as Dean having amazing Sword & Lance ranks both. Something else to note is that FE3/5 only had caps (besides HP) at 20 so stat scaling would definitely be a factor if it were to ever come back. Its one of my favorite oldschool FE mechanics and I feel if it were refined properly it could be used in the modern age as well, or heck even in an "echoes" styled game they could probably try it there too. What are your thoughts on dismount?
  20. If you are one of those special people that managed to buy an NES Classic this past year, then I have some good news for you. In the past few months, applications like Hakchi and RetroArch allow us to put any NES, SNES, GBA, and many more onto our NES. Now it is possible to play Fire Emblem 1 all the way through to 8 on your television. Of course you can always play emulations on your computer, but I've always enjoyed playing NES and SNES on the big screen. The menu music now is the 8 bit FE theme song. I'm thinking about making an entire FE theme for the NES Classic. I hope this thread inspires someone else with a mini to download the FE titles. This tutorial is not mine, but it is the best one out there right now. NOTICE*- The GBA games (FE6, FE7, FE8) require a Wii Pro Controler if you would like to enjoy the full experience. It is still possible to play them, but the NES controller does not have bumpers.
  21. Not sure if this has been done before, but if it has, my searching proved futile here. Maybe on FEU, that site has pretty much everything for hacking. In any case, here is a beta of the shop editor from Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. I have no time to test it, so it may not work, but please tell me if there are bugs and how to fix them because I know almost jack about hex. Thank you! (I don't think there are supposed to be 8 items, maybe the last one is a seperator) FE3 Shop Editor.zip
  22. A friend of mine told me in a skype call a few days ago that he read somewhere on the Forest that IS wanted to remake FE3 properly and release it in the west. I asked him if he said he had the article anywhere, but he has no recollection of where on the forum he found it, only that he read it here. Does anyone know if that article is real? Apparently it's a recent one.
  23. Spoilers I guess? So... Why did Est leave after the War of Heroes ended? Was that ever explained in FE3 or even 12?
  24. Title says all so I was wondering as I just recently got done playing Dark Dragon and Sword of Light. At one point on one of the chapters Garnef tells Marth that Medeus is of no threat to him and that he has him completely under his control with the Falchion and Mafu/Imhullu in his hands. So I was wondering is this true? Or is he just bluffing? Could Garnef really if he wanted to beat Medeus? Is he strong enough to do it? Seeing as to how early he ''dies'' in the game he doesn`t even make it to the final chapter to fight alongside Medeus. So yeah what do you guys think? Game stats aside I wonder if Garnef truly could put down Medeus if he wanted I mean I guess he could since he is immortal with Mafu and only Starlight could hurt him..But Medeus is half immortal too since Earth Dragons cannot be harmed normally well they can be is just hard. And seeing as to how Medeus is I think if he heard that he would totally turn on Garnef and try and take him down he seems like that type.
  25. It was a good one, but Ryan lost to Jubello, but can the new champion stand against Yuliya? It's up to you!
