  1. Hey all! I'm new on the site, and I wanted to introduce myself. I've been a Nintendo gamer for as long as I could hold a controller. I got started on the NES and enjoy playing my switch today. As a teenager, I was impacted by Phantasy Star Online on the GameCube. I absolutely love that game and spent thousands of hours on it. Many of you might know that Phantasy Star is essentially dead in the west. This made me very sad and created a void in my heart. One day, when I was feeling sorry about myself for the lack of official Phantasy Star releases, I picked up a copy of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the Nintendo DS. That day was a great one. I found a new franchise to be excited about! Ever since, I've been plowing through the Fire Emblem games whenever I get the chance. They're great! I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and learning a lot as we share our love of FE. Cheers!
  2. So, I'm wondering how to go about defining which battle and map sprites are associated with a given class. I'm trying to add in a female Knight to the Sum Patch to go along with female Generals, going into the "female Dismounted Knight" class slot. I've copied all the information over from the male Knight class (save for Class ID), and even set it to promote into the female General. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to go about setting which sprites the class uses, on the map or in battle. It appears to use the female General sprite in battle—at least, that's what shows up in the battle sprite box when the class is highlighted to be reclassed into—but it has no defined map sprite, and the game crashes when you try to back out into the main reclass menu after changing a character into it. Ideally, I would just set it to call the exact same files the male Knight uses for its battle and map sprites, but I don't know how to actually do that, or even if it's possible. I know Arch ported the female Cavalier and General classes back into Shadow Dragon, graphics and all, but I don't know what process he used to get the graphic importation and association working. If anyone knows how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate your wisdom! …As an addendum, does anybody know if Soldiers in Shadow Dragon are flagged as being able to reach level 30, like other single-tier classes? I can't seem to find any conclusive answer to that.
  3. So, I opened up the Nightmare modules for FE11 and poked around in them again, and was swiftly reminded of why I stopped to begin with. The stat values given in the editor don't make any sense and don't seem to correlate with the values listed online in any meaningful way. I was wondering if anybody here had the "key" to converting stat and growth values between regular, comprehensible numbers and whatever bizarre cipher the numbers are hidden behind in the editor. Thanks so much for your time!
  4. I've been trying to insert portraits into Shadow Dragon (well, I suppose, more accurately, alter the ones in the game) and I've been able to mess with the larger portraits the game uses for speech and such. But the smaller portraits used for the menus is stored in a different place (the "sf" folder when decompiled) and stored differently. While the larger portraits don't have a separate palette file, the menu portraits do. At least, I'm pretty sure they do. It's separated into the image file and "p" file, and messing around does indicate that it is the palette file. I assume it's compressed? I have no idea what kind of compression it is, I guess I just have to mess around to find it? Also, does anyone know of a program that can take the information from that palette file and save into a format I can use with usenti?
  5. So! I'm planning on starting a "blue is for lords" color run of SD, where I only use characters with blue hair. My question is, would Athena count? Her hair is kind of a muted blue, but I had always written it off as black. I'm also not sure if I want to allow re-classing or not; mostly concerned with having someone (most likely Caeda) be a mage to deal with Gharnef. Difficulty would be H1 or 2, I'm not decided on that yet. Maybe 3.
  6. Awakening did a poor job of keeping the continuity set up by Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, having retconned quite a bit of the lore. Examples: Medeus' revival, Lucina's ability to use the Falchion, geography, degenerating, and so forth I want to here others' takes on it, but I'll probably still debate (not in a mean way) that there is just about no continuity.
  7. Hello all~ Technically not "new" but it came out 4 years after Shadow Dragon's release :P Recently while looking up stuff about the artist for Shadow Dragon, Masamune Shirow, I found an artbook he released 5 years ago that featured some artwork he did for Shadow Dragon. I know the game's known for only having like 8 or so characters getting full artwork, but there are lots of interesting old designs, sketches, etc. NOTE: I do not own this book, these are either preview images or screenshots from a flip through video The full video can be found here. I'm pretty sure the book is still available at Dark horse (and in English!) There's a lot of text in with the images so it'd be interesting to learn more about it. Anyways, just thought it'd be interesting to share!
  8. So I have a question how good is the remake of fe1 (shadow dragon) l heard it was terrible; how faithful are any and all remakes in the franchisw for that matter?
  9. I've been trying to make battle/map sprites for some of my favorite characters, so here's what I have so far. Shadow Dragon Battle Sprites: Credit to Bonzai for the sniper sprite used as a base for Jeorge: http://spritedatabase.net/file/3081 and for the sage sprite used for Linde, Tiki, Nagi, and Nyna: http://spritedatabase.net/files/gba/990/Sprite/EnemyFemaleSage.gif as well as the rogue sprite used for Xane: http://spritedatabase.net/files/gba/991/Sprite/Rogue.gif Credit to Grim for the myrmidon sprite used as a base for Athena: http://s58.photobuck...es/Fir.gif.html and for the Lyon sprite used for Etzel: http://spritedatabase.net/files/gba/991/Sprite/Lyon.gif as well as the nomad sprite used for Wolf: http://spritedatabase.net/files/gba/990/Sprite/NomadTrooper.gif Credit to Grim and Bonzai for the hero sprites used as a base for Caesar, Horace, and Astram: http://spritedatabase.net/file/3097http://spritedatabas...prite/Hero2.gif Falcon Knight sprites and female Bishop sprites used for Maria, Caeda, Palla, Catria, Est, Elice, and Nyna found at http://www.feplanet.net Naga Map Sprites: Pheros Map Sprites: Layla Map Sprites: Human Lilith Map Sprites: Mikoto Class Change Sprites: Arete Class Change Sprites: Sumeragi Class Change Sprites: I'm planning to probably make map sprites for human Anankos next, and then maybe battle sprites for characters from New Mystery, Gaiden, Genealogy and Thracia. Feel free to use any of them, just give credit if you do. Thanks for looking!
  10. “The fuck is this, Phobia? Another LP so soon?” yeah i’ve been planning this since like two days after I started FE8 random so that’s why I rushed it so much, I wanted to move onto something that would really be a fun LP For my last birthday I started an LP that I didn't end up finishing because it was FE6, so for this one I want to try again. and guess what I’m playing FE12 after this, and it's all in this one thread Now, I know a lot of people don't like the DS games (or like one and not the other) and I'm not the BIGGEST fan of 11, but I really like 12. I do thoroughly enjoy Shadow Dragon, though. and I’M ONLY USING SHITTY UNITS. THAT MEANS I’LL BE USING A TIER LIST. Specifically, this tier list, because that’s the first I found and it's legit. [spoiler=HERE IS THE TIER LIST] Only mid to SHIT tier will be used, other than Marth Which means I will have some of the WORST units IN ANY FIRE EMBLEM GAME Mid Tier Norne Athena Wendell Wrys Horace Midia Dolph Ceasar Minerva Astram Roshea Castor Darros Low Tier Maria Gordin Roger Ymir Elice Macellan Samson Tomas Jagen Lorenz Lower Tier Est Matthis Jeorge Vyland Arran Shit Tier Boah Rickard Bantu Pretty much the same kind of tier list I would’ve made. I’ve used some of these characters before, namely Lorenz, Norne, Gordin, aaaaaaaaaaaand Jeorge? Of course, I do not get to use all of these characters because there’s a limit. I might have to reclass some so I dont have 60 bow users. [spoiler=Rules] Only mid to shit tier units + Marth. None of them may die, except Jeigan. Fuck him. None of them may be DEPLOYED unless required. As per request of dondon, Minerva will not be used Without any further ado I present the first episode of Phobia’s Akaneia Saga. [spoiler=Prologue 1] I chose easy mode because first of all, my team is going to be awful. Second of all, I need to grab Norne and that can only be done by LETTING PEOPLE DIE in the prologue. Which means Frey and Jeigan will be sacrificed, because Frey is not canon and even though I can use Jeigan he’s a piece of shit. is this marth’s brother, roy!? i really don’t care about this intro One dark and stormy night, Prince Marth stumbles drunkenly around his castle. Beggin’ your pardon, but why the fuck are you wearing such ugly armor? But whatever, I guess I’ll go see the princess. THE FUCK IS THIS THIS IS MY CASTLE WHY ARE YOU IN MY CASTLE, REDMAN? “I’m… I’m the bad guy, Marth! You’re supposed to be scared!” Unfortunately for Private Redman, his teammates suck balls. Seriously, why invade my castle if you’re just going to die in one quick 1v1? Oh, no, this guy took more than two hits. I’m doomed! Fuck outta here. Oh, good. Shitty levels already, princey? I’ll show ‘im how I can run to the throne! NO! THE THRONE! WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO NOW! I'M SORRY ANRI, BUT THIS IS WHERE IT ALL ENDS She’d be really mad if she knew that Gra was invading! Idk why the top map is so dark, but no matter! Prince Marth defeats the invading evildoer and ...seizes his own throne? Yes, sir! Yeah, I’m great, Elice, but like... our castle security is the worst. No big deal, though, I’m personally fine. I hope you guys will join me as I traverse the great continent of Akaneia. This is gonna be a loooong one.
  11. Should I do it? I'll be playing on Normal, because I'm a horrible FE player. This should be fun.
  12. Heyo everyone, I haven't played FE11 in quite some time so I was thinking of doing so again, I'm not sure what difficulty yet, but I guess what units I get will determine that partly , thinking H2/H3 because its been awhile. Probably gonna have free Jeigan running around for a little bit. I want you guys to pick 14 characters for me, 1 per person. You can also pick their class, if I feel like it and can get my recording stuff to work I may record I dno, been having issues with that. 1. Wrys, Cavalier then Swordmaster - General Horace 2. Biraku/Vyland, Myrmidon then Paladin - Shin 3. Caeda, Pegasus line - Refa 4. Merric, Curate then Sniper - Boron 5. Doga, Dark Mage line - Batter 6. Maria, Myrmidon line - Breezy 7. Darros, Knight line - Xinny 8. Dolph, Pirate then Hero - Randoman 9. Nagi - Ninjamonkey 10. Hardin, Cavalier line - DavidSW 11. Wolf, Warrior - IceSage 12. Palla, Archer line - DarkDestr0yer 13. Tiki - Elieson 14 Etzel, General - Peppy
  13. I'm going to start my first run of Shadow Dragon in a few weeks and wanted to know...What should I expect? How much harder is it compared to later games? Is the story good? I also don't care much for spoilers, give as much information as possible please. Thank You!
  14. I wanna know how to alter Norne's recruitment requirement so that you don't need to have one other character die besides the decoy. Does anyone know how to do that?
  15. I have 15 units but I don't get the special chapter help?
  16. What's kinda bugged me recently is that the games never mention exactly how a Manakete is able to become a Shadow Dragon, or whether it's a transformation that's exclusive to the strongest of Earth Dragons or not. I mean, you got guys like Medeus and (later) Loptyr. Both of whom are Earth Dragons, and both are (or at least Medeus is) capable of assuming the form of a Shadow Dragon. So far the transformation seems exclusive to Earth Dragons, with the Shadow Dragon transformation itself seeming like a "super form" of sorts. (That is the best way I can describe it, to be honest.) Then comes Idun, a Divine Dragon, who is forced to assume a form that is arguably noticeably similar to Shadow Dragon. (Granted, her dragon form in Binding Blade is referred to as a DEMON Dragon, but her appearance and the fact that she has "Dark Breath" as a usable weapon, does bring the Shadow Dragon transformation to my mind at least. It might have also been on Firelizard's mind too when he translated Binding Blade, considering what name he gave her dragon form in said translation.) Then you've got Grima, who is implied in the "Artbook of God" to be a descendant of the Earth Dragons. Now I know I proposed the theory that Grima's supposed to be a mass fusion of the Earth Dragons at the Dragon's Table, but that doesn't mean I'm not confused as to why his dragon form looks like it takes Medeus's and Loptyr's Shadow Dragon forms one step further with his own Fell Dragon form. Then you've got games by Shouzou Kaga, the father of Fire Emblem. Like TearRing Saga, which while not technically Fire Emblem, does seem to suggest that the Shadow Dragon transformation is something ALL dragons can achieve. Earth Dragons, Divine Dragons, maybe even Fire Dragons for all I know. (I am admittedly kinda spoiled to the fact that TearRing Saga's final boss is technically a human who managed to transform into a dragon by ingesting some dragon blood, but work with me people.) If that's true for the FE series, then it would explain the aforementioned similarities between Idun's Demon Dragon form and Medeus's and Loptyr's Shadow Dragon form. But even so, there doesn't seem to be specific instance that involves an onscreen transformation to a Shadow Dragon and a Manakete that had a completely different dragon form beforehand. And the dragon blood ingestion triggering the transformation, to me seems like a one-time thing that involved a human. Not a Manakete or a similar race. Seeing as whether dragon blood ingestion (or infusion) is the trigger behind such an event or not. But yeah. Does the fact that the circumstances behind this particular Manakete transformation hasn't been really gone into detail in the FE games bug anyone on here?
  17. While I enjoyed the DS Games very much, I thought I'd address some of the commpaints. * Have the background info from the developers notes all in the game. * Make more prepromotes like Jorge and Lorenz have less pathetic growths and/or base stats. * Give Pirates their own growths in Shadow Dragon * Spread out the classes a bit more. Book 2 Barst is a pirate, Ellerean is a dark mage, * A classic mode that has most of the original growths * More balanced stat caps no 30 Defense for Paladins * Uniform colors in battle animations that are similar to hair in that they reapeat. Astram and Dolph both wear the same shade of green for example. * Get rid of the Gaiden chapter requirements, but keep the replacement generics for new players. * Have various objectives in multiplayer such as one player tries to defend, while the other tries to seize. * Put in a few more characters like an ex soldier from the Gra army Anyone else have any ideas that'd be nice?
  18. Is was looking around tasvidios.org and i noticed that shadow dragon recently had a tool assisted speedrun put up. I found this exciting because the record holding real-time run on sda is so badly recorded that it is unwatchable. The tasvidios page is here: http://tasvideos.org/2690M.html Also, here is the actual video: What do you guys think of it?
  19. Are there any hacks of these two games? All I know of is the All Characters, and Avatar reclass avatar into anything hack for NoGBA$? Also a "Fire Emblem Evil" hack for Shadow Dragon that ends after the first chapter.
  20. Just wondering: where can I find/edit growths for these games using a hex editor? Also: What do I load into Nightmare from the FE10 rom for the modules to be compatible? I've used WiiScrubber to pick out individual files, but am confused what to do from here.
  21. Sad but true. May 20th of this year, we will lose the ability to play some quite amazing games online. This also includes the only 2 Fire Emblems with competitive multiplayer(FE11 and FE12). This is not Nintendo's fault. Nintendo outsourced server management to GameSpy for the Wii and NDS. GameSpy was recently purchased by a company and they don't seem to care about anything other than mobile gaming, so all of the old GameSpy servers are being shut down. But this doesn't have to be the end. Nintendo consoles have all been emulated, with the exception of the current gen(and we'll get there). If you look for NES games, or SNES games, you'll find that fans have painstakingly preserved these experiences so that they can be enjoyed far into the future. So, why don't we do the same thing with Nintendo WFC But how do you propose we do this? It's not going to be easy. I don't even know if we'll be able to write servers for every game in time. What we need to do is make sure that as much data is collected about each of the multiplayer games that are going offline as possible. There is an effort being lead by an emulator developer named ToadKing to reverse engineer each game and collect as much data as possible to do this. But how can I help? 1. Use the guides on ToadKing's website to capture packets of as many use-cases of online in any game that is going offline and send it to ToadKing. 2. Anyone with network protocol experience would be invaluable in extracting data and figuring out the encodings of data 3. Any information you can find relevant to the multiplayer. Most multiplayer games use Nintendo WFC's servers to find a match, and then from there everything is Peer2Peer. Please spread the word! May 20th is a few months away, but it'll be here before we know it
  22. Hello, Serenes Forest Forums! I will be doing a partially blind playthrough of FE11 Shadow Dragon, normal mode. Here is Prologue 1. [spoiler=Prologue 1] The title screen! Looks nice, I guess. Like the terrible player I am, I'm playing on normal mode. Shoot me. Then, this intro appeared on the screen. [spoiler=Introduction]"Long ago, Medeus, king of the dragonkin, conquered the continent of Akaneia, beginning an age of fear and despair for all its people. That tyranny was broken, however, when an unlikely hero intervened. A young man hailing from the Altea region appeared with a divine blade in hand. He stood against the Shadow Dragon, and struck him down. For some time after, the land enjoyed an age of peace. However, after a century's passing, the Shadow Dragon returned. He forged an alliance with a fiendish sorcerer who sought to rule the world, and their combined might toppled kingdom upon unsuspecting kingdom. Again, darkness threatened to engulf the continent. It fell upon the king of Altea, sole descendant of the dragon-slayer hero, to 'sally forth with the divine blade and fulfill his blood destiny. His son, Prince Marth, remained at home with the boy's mother, his elder sister, and a garrison manned by Altea's neighbor and ally, Gra'. Thus the boy applied himself to the ways of both pen and sword, until one day..." Why did they name that place Gra...? I mean... Gra. Why not something cool, like Wizard, or Australia? Moving on... Young Marth! So... Apparently, we have to go to the throne. Here is Marth, our lovable, blue-haired lord. For some reason, his defense is okay, but his skill is kind of bad. I'm going to guess his growths are going to change this. A wild generic appeared! He brought his axe-wielding buddies to help! CIRCLE SLASH After killing those guys with ease, Marth leveled up. It's what you've all been waiting for... I hate Fire Emblem Moving on... I feel really threatened by this guy. Yup. I'm shaking. Yep, I'm fine, dearest sister...! How are you on this fine day? Gra? Is that some kind of pasta...? We've lost mummy?! Oh noez! I could've produced some inappropriate innuendo with her around... He was defeated by the pasta people?! Are you sure?! 'K, sis. ...'K, sis. 'K, SIS. JEEZ, YOU'RE SO WEIRD And thus our hero, Prince Marth, fled the throne-room. What will happen next? Find out in the next part of Shadow Dragon with Wizard!
  23. Shadow Dragon. What can I say? My favorite FE, and the first I happened to play. Truly, it is the ultimate form of the game that started it all. But i'm not going to mercilessly defend every flaw like a fanboy. Any game is going to have flaws. Blazing Sword had that incredibly forced tutorial that Japan loathed it for. The Radiant series had the Biorythem and the infamous Easy mode memory transfer glitch. Genealogy had it's "Never turn off, no reseting" love system that permanently swapped upon power down. And Mystery had the removal of key elements from Book 1. But still, most people overlook these flaws because these can be amazing games if you power through the crap spots, kinda like Wonderful 101. Why didn't people do that with Shadow Dragon? All i usually hear from engish players is that this game sucks and it's nowhere near the Radiant Series. I set out to find: is it really that bad? So, I compiled a list of the pros and cons of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon to conduct a written review and comparision, and ask what you think about it. What do you like and dislike about it? Here's my input: THE PROS First official Translation of a Japanese Fire Emblem No one ever brings this up. Seriously, this is a grace from Nintendo for this to happen. They never did it ever before, even though the English Fire Emblem almost explicitly sets up Binding Blade with Athos' dying vision and the Birth of Roy, and Nintendo didn't take the chance to localize it. So to translate a game that never even had a related game across the pond was something special. Awakening continued this trend in bits and chunks with other things in it's DLC. Translaters, Heroes of Shadow, people WHY HAVEN'T YOUFIXEDYOURPATCHESYET?!?!? No offense, but "Maris" sounds like very fruent engrish now and "Roro" is annoying, especially now that i think he quotes a Bible verse in Chapter 10X that was overlooked (I am Legion, for we are many). Reclassing Really, no one can argue that this is a godsend. Even Awakening utilized this. This allows an otherwise useless character to have potential, and a powerful character to maximize his/her potential, like the Avatar can in the sequel. It can't save a doomed unit like Caesar, but it can turn better units into unstoppable swiss army knives if you use it well enough. The Controls I don't know why, but for me personally the touch controls worked like a charm, allowing me to move units in a precise path rather than a path the cpu genrates to move that unit to point X (example: have Marth move in a zigzag rather than a straight line). Maybe it's just me though. Blade of Light, Mystery of the Emblem Style Only fans really notice this: the game seamlessly Combines Ankoku Ryuu with Monsho No Nazo Book 1, making it seem like it was fixing the flaws with Book 1 more than remaking a NES game. Why is this a good thing? Because it looks and sounds damn amazing. Even haters usually say that this game (and by extension it's sequel) have the single best rendititon of the FE theme to date, and the game looks brilliant.... especially comapared to the NES version. The more the merrier People hate this, but I actually like this: to a degree. The FE series has a special focus on caracter development, so more characters means more content. I do dislike not being able to use them all, but... More replay value! Online Features For the first FE game to have online features, it really was well executed. Exibit A: Online Battles. Register your buddies, and you won't have to travel cross country to play for a mere hour! Weather or not you can have a four player war like in FE7 i'll never know for sure....(forever alone) And the online shop, the first instance of FE DLC, although maps wouldn't happen till the sequel, the most notable thing is that Starting on Dec. 31 2008, Players could buy an Elesian Whip on days that end in 1. (eg. Apr. 21) Shadow Dragon Ditched the multi item promotions that FE1 and 3 had for Master Seal based promos, (one of maybe 3 changes from the original if you sacrifice Frey and don't get to Gaiden Chapters) but this whip offered a secret means of promoting Pegasus Knights into Falcon Knights like in Gaiden and later games, which is perferred if you want to keep a high resistance. Remember how i said this was my first game? The tutorial Nintendo, you really nailed it with this. FE7's tutorial (Lyn Mode) is incredibly forced, and when you think about it Lyn's story is half of the game! HALF OF THE GAME IS A TUTORIAL! SD though, has a streamlined, and effective turorial. I didn't know the first fuck about FE except "There's this dude named Marth in Smash Bros., and he kicks a lot more ass than Roy and Ike", and I was close to an expert by the end of Chapter 6. Clearly that says something. Plus, the Prologue is interesting on it's own, and you can turn of the actual tutorial and just play through it. (Granted, there's no real reason other than story and it's insultingly easy, a stark contrast to the sequel's BS FE mode which takes place right after this prolouge) Now, we're flipping the Switch: THE CONS (BUM BUM BUUUUUUUUM!) Who the fuck is Whymp?!?!? He's Auffle! Really, this game was probably made at least somewhat with beginers in mind, but this is rediculus! If FE has a moral lession, it's that war is bad and a life cannot be restored. (Aum Staff, but there's only one of those) So why in the flying mother of fungleberries does this game have REPLACEMENT UNITS?!?!?!?!? If you really suck and everyone dies, FE makes sure that A: You feel like the biggest douch in the world, B: You're screwed and have to start the Game over, C: You have no chance of recruiting more arrow fodder, And D: You are not rewarded for this. SO WHY DO YOU GET MADE UP, RANDOMIZED CHARACTERS TO REPLACE YOUR 50 DEAD ONES?!?!?!?!?! And noone ever sees them unless they do it on purpose, so if you see someone's DS with a save file consisting only of Marth and these, DUCK AND ROLL IMMEDIATELY, because it's very likely they are behind you with a blood stained axe and a body in their closet. Sadly, the sequel isn't off the hook about this either, and there you have to be even MORE intentional because that game has 81 playable characters in all! And speaking of killing off units intentionally: THE GAIDEN CHAPTERS THAT EVERYONE NEVER PLAYED Gaiden Chapters! I don't care what i have to do, it adds an element of challenge to the mix, and sometimes you have to get every chapter unlocked to get to the end game (*cough* FE7 and FE6). Kill all theves before they escape? Ok. Use X item? Ok. Go west four spaces, use the red jewel, conjure up a raging windstorm to whisk you away, MAKE SURE you attack the theif with the Master Sward on turn 14 and get exactly 29 damnedge in? A challenge I shall accept!!!!! Kill off all your units? O- Wait WHAT? WHOS BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS? Someone is fired at NoJ. The whole point of a Gaiden Chapter is to reward the player for completing mundane, difficult, and/or sometimes nonsensical tasks (How was i supposed to know not to kill the enemy clerics?), but this game says "Ya'know, wouldn't it be a great idea to reward the player for sucking?", Let's rip into this too: everyone is alive in the sequel yes? I can't check their pulse, but i'm pretty sure that is a living tone of skin they have. So, the sequel inexplicably has the events of the Gaiden Chapters, where EVERYONE IS DEAD, apparently have happened rather than having them say "this is the first time Marth meets them because noones dead", apparently the Gaiden Chapters happened with everyone alive.....(5...4...3..2...1..and...) (WTF BOMB scene) JESUS CHRIST NINTENDO, ARE YOU THAT THICK?!?!?!?!?!??!!??!?!? A DEAD PERSON IS DEAD!!!!!!!!! SOMEHOW EVERYONE IS DEAD, BUT NOONE'S DEAD, AND CHAPTER 24x NEVER HAPPENED BUT IT HAPPENED AN JUST, JUS, WHAT THE F#$% I CAN'T EVEN RAP MY BRAIN AROUND IT!!! MY BRAN IS MELTNG RIGHT NOW!!!!!! ........... I don't know, maybe they forgot to program another way to get into these chapters and put it on the market, released a sequel, and THEN realised that they made that error. BUT WHAT ABOUT 24X?..... Let's just assume that the SD gaiden chapters are non-canon and let inconsistencies fall where they may. That's the cons but those are some REALLY big cons. Before anyone brings it up, I have a rebuttle for: Pre Promoted Unit Overkill Really, it's not that bad. Most are really quite good, except for Jagen, who actually i was able to use well into Chapter 8. Look at sedgar and wolf. Look at Jeorge. Look at Lorenz. And the series just started, so newcomers might not have found the items for promotion, so they put in pre promotes, and made promos one item in the remakes to rectify this (not counting the previously mentioned Elysion Whip of course) Thanks for reding all that! Overall, i'd say this is a solid game that has some gaping flaws, but i'd expect that from a NES game. we'll need 1.21 gigawatts to rectify the Gaiden Chapter Paradox, and i don't think i'll be able to predict a direct lightning strike. This is Hero of the Fire Emblems, yes all five of them, signing off, and asking your opinions about it, otherwise it wouldn't make sense for this to be a topic!
  24. Dear fellow Fire Emblem fans, The first Fire Emblem game that I played was the very first one released in the US/ Europe. The game that got me interested was Super Smash bros. melee. Roy was my favorite character, and he was someone I wasn't even familiar with. When Fire Emblem was released for the first time in a language I could understand I immediately bought the game, and fell in love... Fire Emblem is my all time favorite game with Jaffar being my favorite character in this game. (Zach Fair is my all time favorite video game character) With the release of Sacred stones I was once again captivated, but let down at the same time. By the time the endgame had come along all of my characters were lvl. 20/20... Grinding was made possible, and as a result every decision I now made carried significantly less weight. Exp. could be gained unlimited. When Path of Radiance was released I was filled with joy. However after playing through the game without ever having to really think about any of the decisions that I made with once again all of my characters at lvl. 20/20 by the time I finished the game, and to top it all off the story wasn't even done... When the Nintendo DS was released I happened to have enough money to buy one with the hope that one day a Fire Emblem game would be released on the system. What a disappointment Shadow Dragon was... Due to my disappointment with Path of Radiance, and my lack of finances I decided to not buy a Wii, and let this one pass me by. When I caught wind of Awakening being released I pre-ordered the limited edition Fire Emblem 3ds XL. This is the game that I am currently still playing. (Actually the only reason I bought a 3ds, and the only game that I own on a 3ds) I'm on my first play through, (Hard/ Classic) and will not pass any (real) judgement until I've at least beaten it. Due to the possibility of grinding... (I seriously hate grinding...) the difficulty level is a joke, and obviously has nothing to do with why it is taking me so long to beat this game. I'm a very casual gamer, and the story/ game has not been able to motivate me to keep playing out of excitement for what's to come next. That, and I'm very indecisive when it comes to picking a partner for myself, and all of my other characters... I'm actually here to seek help for that... :P (And to thank whoever made the translation to Sword of Seals which I will be playing once I've finished Awakening :D)
  25. I have only played Awakening (not finished yet). But I was thinking of getting the only other FE I can get, Shadow Dragon (I own no GBA, GC, or Wii). From a point if view of playing just FE: Awakening?: Is it good? Is it hard? I've grinded the crap out of my units in Awakening and I'm enjoying stomping through the game (I only play 1-2 Chapters a day, I'm at 18 currently). How relevant is it to this game, game mechanics wise and story-wise?
