  1. Hello, it is I Pengaius here with my long awaited contribution to the SCU Let's Play thread, well here we go. Part 0; The Prelude to Conquest
  2. Alright, now follow me on this. We could obviously do the "Walhart is one letter off from Walmart" thing, but there is an obvious connection between the two if you look deep enough. Well, there are multiple, so lets go down the list. For simplicities sake, we'll start with Walhart. 1) Walhart rules the continent Valm. Valm is Valencia, the Kingdom of Valencia was started by Alm. What color is most prominent on Alm? Blue. What color is Walmart famous for? Blue. Connection number 1 2) Walhart has multiple generals, one of which is named Excellus. Excellus is also the name of an iphone app. Phones are sold at Walmart. 3) Walhart comes with the skill Conquest. Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest can still be found at Walmart. 4) Another one of Walhart's generals was Cervantes. Cervantes is the last name of a famous Spanish writer. In his most famous book, "Don Quixote" (which could probably be found at a Walmart, but that's the easy way out), the main character lives in the La Mancha region. With La Mancha, we get to the movie "Man of La Mancha", an adaptation of a book by Dale Wasserman. Dale Wasserman died in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and guess what's at Paradise Valley, Arizona, A WALMART SUPERCENTER. 5) Walhart is voiced by Richard Epcar, who also is Ansem in KH3. KH3 is coming out for PS4 and Xbox 1 (again, can be bought at Walmart, but we're going in further). PlayStation is made by Sony, whose head office is in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. The Minato region of Tokyo is well known for the Tokyo Tower. The Tokyo Tower is 1,092 ft tall, making it the second tallest thing in Japan. You know what else is the second tallest of something? John Rogan, who is the second tallest person in the world (or was, he is dead). He lived and died in Tennessee (there are Walmart in Tennessee, but that's too easy, we did that last time). Tennessee is currently going through it's midterms, and has a few candidates. The Democratic nominee is Marsha Blackburn, who was just endorsed by Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift is a friend of Ed Sheeran, who recently played at the Nashville's Nissan Stadium. But while in Tennessee, you know where Mr. Sheeran went? That's right, he went to Walmart to get some pajamas. BOOM! If you have any other Walhart Walmart connections, please inform me of them immediately
  3. Even Sacred Stones is my fav game in the series, when you put all bias aside and look at it as a game in general, it's pretty meh to be honest. The story has one of the best villains in the series, Lyon, and other than the dual lord story, thats really all the game has going for it. The overall plot is kinda messy, but in a way where it still works but very oddly so. And may I mention that the game is EASY. Compared to FE 6 and 7, this game is a cakewalk and doesn't show any real signs of difficulty until really late chapters, where your team will be super buff anyways so it all cancels out pretty much. I beat this game four times and I can say, with certainty, that this is the best, worst Fire Emblem game.
  4. So I was surfing the Romhacking.net forums a few days ago...and apparently, someone named "Cirosan" released this! https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3961/ That's right. Patch that puppy, and you'll always go through the Prologue on all difficulties! And if you want, you can use the version of it that also gets rid of Gaiden requirements. No more having to kill off your characters! You'll wanna be careful though; H5 Prologue is no picnic. The guy had to make some drastic changes to Prologue I and II just to make them possible. Giving Marth a Vulnerary at the start, making certain enemies drop Vulneraries, and even changing the class and equipment of some of those enemies...those are all things he did. And even then, the difficulty was still comparable to Lunatic Reverse on FE12... ... Course, on the other hand, Chapters 1-3 end up being a lot easier; to the point where my Marth was doubling the Chapter 1 pirates . But yeah, anyone else hear of those?
  5. Greetings, Serenes Forest! I hope everyone's having a great Easter. As it happens, today is the day I have finally completed my magnum opus, THE BEGGINING. I sincerely believe you will find this game to be an epic and scintillating quest for revenge that will keep you on your toes. The game patches to FE8. DOWNLOAD SCREENSHOTS: SPECIAL THANKS:
  6. So, having just about beaten this game, I am indeed pleased at all the obvious love that went into it. It didn't have a lot of the silly things that dragged Awakening and Fates down, had a lot of neat mechanics changes, made fantastic use of the secondary characters (for example, May, Boey, and Saber remaining relevant all the way to the very end), GREATLY expanded the story and dialogue, had wonderful voice acting...it was a treat. So before I go into the things I miss, I wanted to make it clear that I still consider this to be a good remake. That said...I'm someone who also really liked the NES version, in-spite of all it's flaws. And while this remake was great in it's own way, I felt there were a lot of little things that I missed. I'm only going to cover the atmosphere, this time, as this post ended up being WAY longer than I thought it would be. But, I'll get into other nitpicks in the future. For now, here's just the atmosphere. Number 1: Atmosphere One of the things that always stuck out to me about Gaiden was just how...bleak it was. From the minute you start, to the very end, the tone is generally very somber and tragic. Where the remake feels like you're trying to prevent bad things from happening...the original felt like the bad stuff had already happened. Part of the whole point of this game (and why Celica was so willing to offer herself to Jedah) was because the world was on the brink of dying. The land was dark and ominous, the literal dead were walking the Earth, and the soundtrack was EXTREMELY depressing (with only a handful of "positive" tunes in there). Celica's decision to sacrifice herself to Duma wasn't because she was naive and stupid (as you'll recall, she asks him WHY she should believe what he says). It was her believing that the whole world was dying. If she did nothing, everyone and everything in the world would die (as far as she knew). She wasn't stupid, she was desperate; and Jedah actually did a really good job of playing upon that (seriously, props to the writing team; these characters were really well-written). In any case, the original Gaiden did a WAY better job of selling me on just how desperate things were. The villages were a lot emptier, the color palette was significantly darker... ...The characters weren't nearly as handsome and well-groomed as they are in Echoes... ...and the soundtrack was generally a lot more depressing. There were a lot of new songs composed for this remake; and many of them were a lot cheerier and/or relaxing than the original songs. And even some of the original songs that were used were radically changed and/or used less frequently. For example, compare this... Village Theme (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkAjHxLKTfE A fairly neutral piece of mood music that's just kind of...there. It's not CHEERY or anything, but it's relaxing enough that you feel safe and confident. The grass is green (even in the supposedly "baren" Rigel Empire), the houses are standing, the sky is blue...you're feeling pretty good. The GAIDEN music, on the other hand... Village Theme (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGg97xkg4DQ Yeah. IMMEDIATELY, it sets this somber, outright oppressive atmosphere. It's depressing, and extremely monotonous. However, it's monotonous in a good way. Alm's argument with Mycen, as well as Lukas' speech about how desperate things are, hit a lot harder with this song droning in the background. And that isn't the only time it's used, either. It is used in every village you come across in the original game, save for the Sage's Hamlet and both port towns. Every village you come across is supposed to be in a state of desperation; and the original song reflects that a lot better. That said, Echoes DOES use this song once. Though, sadly... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=io2yXqWVa4g It now sounds a lot more uplifting; as this has been turned into Alm's triumphant "I'm going to rise up and join the army!" theme. Still would've at least worked well for Lukas' recruitment speech, at least...but still missing the sense of despair the original had (to me, at least). The other town theme (the one that played for the aforementioned port towns and Sage's Hamlet) is also the same way. In Gaiden, you feel very...emotional, when you hear it. Encounter (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hj0eM_YkuA Like, the characters themselves are happy...but they're happy in the context of a world of tears. The song is just as much sad as it is happy; being played as the recruitment theme AND the theme that plays when random villagers are talking about how many people Barth and Grieth have slaughtered. Like, the way the song is cheery, but desolate at the same time. The characters are smiling, but they're smiling in the face of unspeakable pain (or so it sounds to me). The Echoes version, on the other hand, is just happy through and through. Encounter (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXF8HFGRvgU And it IS great, don't get me wrong! I love the way it's used in the Remakes, too! I just wish they had maybe...I dunno, constructed two different versions of it. Maybe the above piece could have been the "holy cow, Est has been reunited with her sisters!!" theme, and the other could be the "port town of sad and lonely people" variation. And finally, there's "Celica Map 2/The Sacrifice and the Saint". Once again, this is the case where I like what they did with the remake...but still wish they had found a way to recapture the mood of the original. The Sacrifice and the Saint (Gaiden): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCAfEHiuI6E Now, instead of playing exclusively as Celica's "Chapter 4 Battle Music", this was, instead, the "Victory" theme. The theme that played whenever there was only one enemy left, in ALL Celica battles. In a vacuum, it's obviously not as well composed as the remake. But, it DOES do a better job of supporting that aforementioned "oppressive atmosphere". It's faintly triumphant, but it also sounds desperate at the same time. Like, the characters are winning, but, it's just one step in the long, LONG ordeal that Celica has ahead of her. She's won the fight, but she's still got the entire war ahead of her. But the Remake... The Sacrifice and the Saint (Echoes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxI9G3v-n4o Well, it works fantastically as an endgame battle theme. But, once again, it is WAY more triumphant and hopeful than the original. And that's something I find regrettable. Had they kept that same sense of despair throughout the whole game, it would have made Celica's decision to sacrifice herself to Duma make a little more sense. It wouldn't have been smart, necessarily...but I could totally buy her just being really desperate to save her dying world.
  7. So I just finished playing Binding Blade, which is my last gba title. I want to jump into the NES/SNES era of games and thought Genealogy would be a good snes era game to start with. But is there any other title I should play before that? And what tips should I know before jumping in? Thanks in advance.
  8. Ok, I just looked at the Wikis on this information. Are you telling me the Fire Emblem ISN'T present in this game??? I know that the Fire Emblem in this universe is the Shield of Seals and is still in Archanea (if I'm correct), but... what's the point of the title Fire Emblem if there is no Fire Emblem present? I guess the Fire Emblem couldn't be removed from Archanea without plot holes, but seriously just why? "Let's make a Fire Emblem game... but let's not put the Fire Emblem in the game." Great logic Nintendo. Must've been hard to do that while taking out the Waifu Simulator at the same time when making the remake.
  9. ok, I finished the game for the first time( amazing game). but the ending got this weird text( probably because of translation maybe?) afer seizing the final castle and then froze on this screen. Is it a bug or maybe it was a translation bug?
  10. Do forgive me if there is an specific help section for this kind of stuff on the forums and I could not find it. I'm kinda new here. My problem is that I'm having a bit of trouble trying to emultion FE4 with the Naga translation. I tried updating the patch using Lunar IPS and neither the headered or unheadered patches work, the game just boots up the screen on the screenshot provided and then remains dark forever. the Delta patcher doesn't work for me either, so I'm not really sure what to do. Could anyone help me?
  11. Guys if you like Fe4 and want to watch an LP of it with a twist make sure to watch this.
  12. Hello everyone! It's been one and a half years since the latest SRW draft was started, and a day since I finished it. So, of course, it's time to start up a new one. My usual partner in crime, Wen Yang, has unfortunately not logged in for a year, and I've copied more or less his rule set, which he copied from me, so its all good. Rules: You start off with a fresh save file, New game+ is not allowed. The Banpresto Original unit (Including Vorlent) as well as the Archangel and Nadesico are free to use the entire game Every other unit has to be drafted to be used without penalty, though there will be a lot of exceptions to this. The penalty for using an undrafted unit is 4 turns Undrafted units are allowed to persuade and sit their asses in a battleship. They are also allowed to cast skills like accel, zeal and enable(on themselves) if it keeps enemies from attacking them. All other skills are forbidden. They may not be used for support attacks or team attacks. They may also not be used for friendship, love, rivalry or command aura bonuses. There are exceptions to this and this comes into play with forced deployment. You are allowed the use of any and every forced unit who can't retreat into a battleship. This exception only lasts till they can retreat into a battleship. Also on the one beach episode map, you're allowed one free unit if you have no drafted units on the map. This exception lasts till reaching the unit deployment. 15. A little backstory here: On this Spyro fansite I once created this Survivor style general trivia challenge game. Didn't host but it was still really fun to do. Even after I left that site, I loved the idea. Here's my proposal: This game is based on the honor system. That means that looking up answers is not incouraged, but no one could really stop you. The game operates on Days. There will be 12 or so Days where a member from the losing team is eliminated until the merge occurs. Then it shall be one large team with individual invincibility. People will be voted off each day, except for possibly one or so non-elimination days. Contestants will send their votes by PM to the hosts. This of course means any hosts will probably need a good inbox or something. Looking to have around 10-12 competitors. Also would like to have a host, but it'd probably be a pretty difficult job. They'd get all the credit if this goes well. I know I've had this go well before, but it was never thanks to me. Teams will be randomized I guess. Contestants: 1. Franziska 2. Power Master 3. Draco 4. Glaceon Mage 5. Icemario 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11 and 12 to be added if space is needed. Host: Baldrick Teams: Team *host choice #1*: Team *host choice #2*:
  16. Does anyone know where I can find it? I know its very similar to paradise scramble but I prefer this due to the guitar in the battle theme.
  17. I asked you all if you snorted coke (coca-cola). Now you can ask me a question. Sorry no butts, I false advertised. ...Wait, where are you going?... ...Please don't leave... ...Please...
  18. If anyone could make a Sacred Stones revision of Seliph from FE4, that'd be awesome! Seliph/Celice btw vvv and by revision I mean his portrait (ghasty edit, don't double post please, just edit this one) Sweeeeeeet!
  19. Hiya, I'm planning on making reviews of various video games on Youtube, and I was wondering which of these gems of gaming Serenes Forest would like me to review Fire Emblem 1 on the NES Sonic 06 on the 360 Metroid Other M on the Wii Note that FE 1 and Metroid Other M I'll be heading into blind if picked I'll review what does the best in the poll, but I plan to get to each one eventually. You have till 6 PM Central time, as that's when I'll start filming
  20. ^Basically the topic; what are the craziest instances of the RNG screwing with you that you've seen? Lemee start things off: This is my first time playing FE6. Somehow, I don't think Lugh is supposed to have 11 defense at level 12 (see: 15% defense growth, 3 base defense). I'm sure I've had other equally ridiculous cases of weird RNG, but this one is super fresh on my mind because it's in progress. You guys got anything?
  21. Drafting: 1. This draft is for 5 players. 2. Hector, Marcus, Merlinus, Ninian/Nils, and Athos are free for all to use. 3. Bartre and Karla are drafted as a pair. 4. Geitz and Wallace will remain undrafted. 5. Marcus is banned after Chapter 16. 6. The game will be played on Hector Normal Mode, skipping Lyn Mode. Rules: 1. Undrafted units may recruit characters, rescue undrafted units and NPCs, trade, visit Shops and Armories, and dig up items in the desert. 2. All Gaiden Chapters except 19xx, 23x and 28x are required to be visited. 23x and 28x may be visited at the player's discretion, and don't count towards the total turncount up to 20 turns taken per chapter. 4. Other units may do as they please without penalty. 5. Defend chapters count the last played Player Phase for turns if the timer is waited out. Penalties: 1. 22. ORAS is love. ORAS is life. First off, I'm kinda bummed out since now that I think about it, I don't think the game will have Emerald's storyline, which includes taking on both Team Magma and Team Aqua, and going through the Sky Pillar to tell Raquaza to make Kyogre and Groudon STFU. Though, I think the games will have Juan as the 8th gym leader, Wallace as the champion, and Steven to return as the Red-like challenge like he was in Emerald. Still, I can't wait to see what's going to happen. Seeing how Route 113, Mt. Chimney, Route 111 and the Mirage Tower, and pretty much the entirety of Hoenn in 3D graphics is hyping me up, and just imagining how the music will be remastered is adding onto that. So yeah. Let's all give out our thoughts in what's going to be in the fantastic duo of games.
