  1. I haven't been particularly vocal about it, since we're still in the beginning phases, but I'm translating Berwick Saga now. As such, I'm seeking saves for the game so that we can test various inserted text. (I played it on the PS2, so I can't use mine.) If possible, one thing I want to check in particular right now is the tournament Ruby enters in when she promotes.
  2. So after that fiasco of a thread in the Fire Emblem Echoes subforum (if you weren't there, don't ask), my itch to discuss this topic came up again, and I thought it would be prudent to create a discussion topic on the matter in this forum. So what are your general opinions on the matter of localization of media, cultural translation, and censorship, be it through games, anime and manga, or any other forms of entertainment? Do you lean more heavily toward localization or direct translation and why? What are some of your favorite localizations, and what are some of your least favorite and why? What about stuff you're glad was changed and/or removed in localization from the original, and stuff you wish had stayed from the original? Do you think potentially offensive or insensitive content in a work should be changed or removed for sensitivity reasons? Why or why not? (As a note, this is the right forum for this, right? I'm not breaking any rules with this?)
  3. So with FE hereos been a thing this is more just a thoughts on changes to where the patch was and not to flood the one on the NES and SNES one since they're on FE 2/4/5 The first one I've "enjoyed" is If there's more I've missed just post them below and I'd love to here thoughts...How does Wendy become that though?
  4. Fire Emblem If Fan Translation version 4.3 (released 04/2023) Hey everyone! It's been five long years since our last update. We're still here, and we're more determined than ever to deliver a finished translation. From now on, all patch releases and files can be found on our GitHub. This makes it easier for us to host patches, push updates more quickly, and track issues in a more organized manner. GitHub Repository: https://github.com/TeamIf/FireEmblemIf-FanTranslation Current Release: https://github.com/TeamIf/FireEmblemIf-FanTranslation/releases/latest Instructions and Other Tutorials: https://github.com/TeamIf/FireEmblemIf-FanTranslation/wiki The plan is to update the repository on a monthly basis while assembling ready-to-use patch releases once certain milestones have been reached. If you find any issues while playing with the patch, please let us know! We're using GitHub's issue tracker to keep track of typos and other potential problems. Issue Tracker: https://github.com/TeamIf/FireEmblemIf-FanTranslation/issues Current Progress (updated 2/7/2017) Credits: As always, we're on the lookout for new team members! If you'd like to lend a hand and either know Japanese or have a firm grasp of English grammar, we'd be happy to have you. For more information, just shoot me a PM.
  5. Hey everyone! I recently got my hands on the two Birthright drama cds (neither of the Conquest ones, sadly, since I had to spend my money elsewhere), and was planning on writing an English transcript for them. Already got started with the first track, and will get to the rest over time. Let me know if you spot any mistakes or have ideas on how I should improve things. Fyi: I will use localization names most of the time, unless it's like a one letter difference (aka: Ryouma -> Ryoma). Then I'll just use the one I am more used to (usually Japanese), since you all know who I am talking about. This, like all my translations, will also be crossposted to my tumblr: http://nanigma.tumblr.com/ Anyway, here we go: Fire Emblem If/Fates ~ Kingdom of Hoshido Drama CD Series: Takumi's prologue, the tale of Corrin's return. CD 1 Track 1: A prince's return Track 2: Tainted by Nohr Track 3: The first battle in Hoshido Track 4: The qualifications for being accepted Track 5: A pair of hostages Track 6: The third prince Track 7: Fear of the white night Track 8: The waning moon Takumi's prologue, a difficult choice: CD 2 Track 1: Premonition of hope, calm before the storm Track 2: Unfulfilled Desire Track 3: Insurmountable distance, close in thought Track 4: The destined time Track 5: Roar Track 6: Fighting for relief Track 7: A troubled heart Track 8: The decision
  6. I have a bit of a problem with the Mystery of the Emblem (Monshou no Nazo, if you will) translation patch. I can't tell if the ROM I have just isn't a header or if my emulator just sucks (I'm using SNES9x). The ROM works fine when I don't patch it, but it won't work when I patch it. I know there are two versions of the game out there, and I've gotten them both and patched them with their respective patches, but it's the same result with both of them. I'm using Windows 10 and can't seem to find a version of SNESTool that works, so I have no idea of what to do.
  7. This might be a dumb question, but I was wondering if it was at all possible to do a patch of the English translation of FE12 to the actual cartridge? I don't know much about it, but I heard that it was possible to do a patch of the fan translation to Japanese carts of Fates. From what I understand, with a hacked 3DS, you use something called "HANS" (I think) to do a sort of "live patch" of the game. I wanted to know if a similar thing could be done with FE12 cart (and how)? I have a Japanese copy of FE12 and I'd like to be able to actually play it (in English), rather than having it just sit on my shelf. Thank you for any help.
  8. Hey there, everybody! I just created an account here and I'm really happy to become a member of this community! However, I'd like to help making it grow as much as possible. I'm a Spanish avid reader and I love languages, so if there's any kind of project involving Spanish-English or vice versa translations, I'd be glad to help! That said, thank you for letting me in and I hope to have a great time here with all of you!
  9. I was extremely dissatisfied with how the localizers handled Saizo and Beruka's C support so I took it upon myself to relocalize it: http://dyaus-pita.tumblr.com/post/145028759065/saizoberuka-c-support-relocaization Let me know your thoughts. I tried to clean up the old translation a bit to make it sound more natural, adding on or changing things slightly as I saw fit while still remaining true to the original conversation. This is generally how most localizers do things.
  10. I need help determining which names are the most accurate in terms of the Binding Blade exclusive characters in my story. I've been seeing conflicting sources, and I'm not sure which sources are more 'true' than others. I don't exactly need all of them, just the ones below: Some of these characters are more clearly named than others, I'm just listing them for the sake of completeness. (hopefully I remembered them all)
  11. I changed the font of FE4 ,and i began the translation. But,the text are show bad. How fix this? The Kanji is not listed is the hex editor. View my attach png files. EDIT I fixed the problem.View File 3.png
  12. I am a spanish speaker, and I am translating FE4. I use Hexecute RC7,and my first attempt for changing the text it was OK. I load the file english.tbl, and i changed a few letters of the Cap 1. But,when charge the english.tbl file, content varies each time charge. Example I:1 time:Load Prologue text and Cap 5. Example II:Load Chapter 3 and 9. Or whether the text never appears in its entirety. Is diferent every time, and not leave everything and this messy. And,so I can not translate comfortably This is problem of Hexecute, the english.tbl file,or is normal? If file problem could you send me another tbl file,or hexadecimal editor with tbl support. Thank, and please help.
  13. So, I've worked on a Fire Emblem: Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light translation patch using the old translation patch as a base. I know the first game is "inferior" to its remakes, but I still enjoy the retro feel of the game. For this patch I'm using the North American Shadow Dragon character and weapon names (e.i. Caeda, Jagen, Draug), I also changed the font to the font used in Earthbound Beginnings. Here's the current patch Beta 4
  14. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_Kb2u2kXYqfEBRRoyiCb6bbKb57pwcVG0x7JePfv_yU/pubhtml Just wanted to share the english translation of the entirety of the Series 3 cards, the Starter Deck and the Boosters, done by me and my friends. The spreadsheet also has a tab with common FAQs related to this series.
  15. Today the Cipher homepage updated with a talk column featuring the two characters original to Cipher that you might have already seen from the Series 2 teasers. It will provide news on events and also give deck building tips. Also, cute icons! The script is quite simple, so I thought I would take a shot at it with my mediocre Japanese as practice hehe Chapter 1 | Nice to meet you! We're Emma and Shade Originally posted in Japanese here I thought this was really cute, so I'll attempt translations for future chapters, unless the complexity is way above my knowledge of Japanese (which isn't much)
  16. I re-made this thread because my previous one--just by the title--doesn't exactly feel like it "plants my flag", or so to speak. With this title, you know I will be making progress with my translations. I will make an effort to get at least one video out a day. It takes me a few to several hours to make one 10-20 minute video, so please forgive me if I miss out on a day. If all goes well I may be able to push out two, but that's not in any way a guarantee. Editing in all this text is a stroke and making sure they're good translations that gets the essential meaning across takes a little extra time.. Please excuse me if I double/triple/etc. post as I keep you guys updated. I'll try and keep it to a minimal, though. And without further ado... ---- Neutral (0-5) Chapters: "Chapter 0" Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Hoshido (6-27) Chapters: Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Chapter 18 Chapter 19 Chapter 20 Chapter 21 Chapter 22 Chapter 23 Chapter 24 Chapter 25 Chapter 26 Chapter 27 Nohr (6-27) Chapters: Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Chapter 18 Chapter 19 Chapter 20 Chapter 21 Chapter 22 Chapter 23 Chapter 24 Chapter 25 Chapter 26 Chapter 27 "Aqua" (6-?) 17. So I was thinking, with Lucas back in smash, and the announcement of the Mother 1 translation being released worldwide as Earthbound Beginnings, many are predicting Mother 3 to follow suit. And since Roy has been added back in as well, at the same time no less, could this mean that FE6, or even the whole japanese exclusive Fire Emblem library, will receive the same treatment? Itoi's himself mentioned that Mother 1 was being translated and re-released as part of the 20th anniversary of Earthbound's release, and with it being the 25th anniversary of FE as a series, and the music concert on the way I could think of worse times to make such an announcement. Of course I may be looking into this too much, and as someone who's accustomed to the fan translations (the use of memes aside) I'd rather see these games remade rather than translated and redistributed, FE6 in particular due to its sameness and lack of polish, but I'd be excited if this turned out to be true. Penny for you thoughts, anyone?
  18. Hi everyone! I'm thinking of importing the game, but my Japanese skills aren't all that great. I can read hiragana, katakata and some basic kanji, but I have no doubt that I'll be looking up kanji and grammar every few minutes while playing the game. Does anyone know if there will be English translations of the game posted anywhere? I apologize if this topic has already been discussed elsewhere. Thanks!
  19. The full version of the translation has been released! (Current Version: 1.04, released February 2, 2018) Japanese → Version 1.04: Download Here Version 1.03 → Version 1.04: Download Here For those interested, I've also figured out how to access the entirety of the beta version of the game (in Japanese). See this thread for details. Map of the continent of Lieberia: link Character Relations (spoilers!): link Screenshots: Patching & Playing Instructions: Acquire a Japanese-version TearRing Saga BIN file. Ripping the game from the disk, you may end up with an ECM file, which is a compressed BIN. Use a tool like UnECM to decompress it. The patch is in xDelta format, so you'll need an xDelta patcher; I'd recommend xDeltaUI, available here on Romhacking.net. Just to be safe, apply the patch to a copy of your TearRing Saga BIN file. Use the patcher to patch the BIN file with the xDelta file found above. Load the patched BIN using whatever PS1 emulator you like. I've always used pSX v1.13 with no problems. Note: If you use ePSXe 2.0.5, please follow these instructions, or else the emulator will not run correctly. Failing that, try version 1.9.4. Note that because this is a Japanese game, circle is "yes" and X is "no." While we're on the topic, triangle is the "more info" button, like the R-button in the GBA games. L1/R1 go to the previous/next available unit (or previous/next page on the stats screen). If you're ever curious what controls are available to you at any time, you can press square to view them. To all players: If you notice anything strange in the patch, such as: a typo or misaligned text a glitch or bug (besides the Krishna duplication glitch) a particularly drunk-sounding conversation a name inconsistency (e.g., Liza vs. Leeza) Please let me know here or via PM! 20. Because the NES and SNES board covers so many games, it also has the most number of pinned topics. To save a bit of scrolling time, I've unpinned some of the older topics belonging to complete projects. Instead, you can find links to them in this pinned topic instead. 21. In light of the previous thread I made for this goal, and some advice I've received, I've decided to make a new thread. The purpose of this project is simply to translate the whole of Berwick Saga-- turning it into a patch would be nice, but isn't a priority. To this end, I'm slowly gathering screenshots of every line in the entire game, and will link them in this thread as they accumulate. I won't be able to translate them on my own, though, so for that I need any and all halfway-decent translators in this Forest to help. 22. More specifically, what are the current obstacles toward translating what seems to be the most interesting game on this site? Lack of interest? Difficulty with hacking PS2 games? Or is it something else entirely?
  23. * UPDATE 8/3/2014 * Last version I have: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vvl2vue65syyx85/fe4.ips Source TGZ: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6vhuw0xs137yn86/fe4-gharnef-improved-patch.tgz * UPDATE 5/19/2014 * Holy crap it's been a while... I haven't checked this in ages. I also know the location of the patch below is inaccessible, I don't own that webspace any more. I'm going to see what I still have left from this project (I built it in a special Virtual Machine with all kinds of hackery) and I'll find somewhere to dump it all on the web. * PATCH UPDATED 5/31/2013 1:54 PM EST * * Official changelist started! * Improved FE4 Translation Patch Using Twilkitri's work as a basis, I've started undertaking the task of further improving the Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War English Translation patch. But Gharnef, why? The current patch is awesome! There are many things now officially translated by NoA in the Fire Emblem mythology which weren't when the existing patch was created. There are also a few other things the community thinks could be improved upon judging by the conversations we've had so far so we can address those too. It's cool if you don't like my patch and don't want to use it - we can still be friends! Cool! So what changes have you already made, and what's planned? Can I try it out? Sure! Here's a link to the latest work. This is ALPHA, I haven't seen any issues in playtesting so far but if you do, please PLEASE let me know - provide screenshots, save states, etc. Just use a CLEAN Japanese ROM and Snes9x, save your current .ips file off somewhere safe and drop this file in the same directory as your ROM. Then, reload the game (not reset, that's not enough!) and enjoy.
