  1. any opinions? i would look at tags to start.. i personally really like how they break the 4th wall with the dialogue of course to open; but then i start imagining conversations between my Tactician and the ArchSage himself. i often wonder if they planned it this way currently on the chapter where we recruit Wallace and i had to look him up. didnt want to spoil myself (will most likely read the support conversations,) but was surprised to learn about how involved he was in House Caelin's introductory story to the strife within the Lycian League: racist undertones? country bumpkin vs city slicker? who's hot vs who's not in a game of pick my units anyway? rightfully so, these are my emotional opinions on the choices Wallace makes..i confess i do not pick him up as a unit: but his timing is impeccable as always. some of these soldiers serve with the utmost distinction in deployment strategies we are simply thrown into, and have no reason to solve. so we rescue & recruit him in the chapters he introduces himself, of course, but we also want to know a bit more about this, IMHO, Wallace / Oswin archetype (an old man who still serves) - influenced by this post i once wrote i realize i'm assuming a lot here, but what if FE7 is the "choose your own Lord" archetype game. we all get excited upon Lord (units that are normally chosen for us) promotion, correct? Lord Eliwood receives a Lance & a Horse upon promoting..in my opinion, a reflection and a throwback to one of the strongest (main) Lords in the series: Sigurd from FE4. although they both chose to ride out in different ways, both results ended in war: one as a Rescue mission, the other as a Search party. Eliwood's "farm" after the game? i do not know yet, but hints have been given in certain ways already Wallace's "farm"? he leaves it to go BACK to war. and he remembers his promotional medal this time..but why? i think its the retirement Lord Hausen of Caelin would promise to those in service to their realm under war (should Lycia have gone to war with Sacae over the "elopement" of a Caelin Princess?) on the subject of elopement, my assumption is that Lord Hausen replied "this must mean she loves horses, so lets send some horses after her." knight commander vs sussy baka commander, right? another game of pick my units, but of course, on a micro scale. "we must protect my only kin" "your brother's too old" "you're the rightful heir (or is it..YOUR rightful heir) tee-hee~" all his confidants say, right so the main question here concerning this war within the Lycian League, is why do these men such as Wallace / Oswin never receive the Lord's promotion we always want for them? i believe Wallace's impeccable timing of promotion & recruitment within the tutorial is this promotion we always wanted for one of the regulars. therefore, Lord Hausen's never-ending mission for Wallace, from what i know of him: "i know you're here for the girl. im here for the cadre" as a soldier would or is it "im here for the princess. i've always been here for the princess. so say we all" as a prince would

  3. Since starting Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I've been noticing small details ranging from gameplay to presentation from the 3DS games at least that were either retained or absent in this one. Some of the exclusions were understandable, while others were less so. One of the things I observed was that characters in Three Houses tended to speak less in battle when compared to the 3DS games. I can think of a few reasons for why this may be the case, although I am curious if other's share a similar opinion and/or if I simply haven't encountered many situations where the units do speak up in battle. Now, in Shadows of Valentia may have the most chatty Fire Emblem cast that doesn't include written dialogue. They comment on enemies missing, failing to hit themselves, their allies doing well or needing healing, and there are a number of unique quotes between units that were close to each other, such as Forsyth and Python, Mae and Boey, Luthier and Delthea, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if the increased battle quotes were a way of compensating for the lower quantity of support conversations in Echoes, as well as how not every character would be active in the story after a certain point. In contrast, characters in Three Houses speak up a lot more in both the story and in side conversations such as during exploration, support conversations, group activities, and so on. Players can still get an idea of what characters are like even if they are outside of their class. Because of this, perhaps the developers though that having units talk a lot in battle would be redundant or unnecessary, and/or that there was enough dialogue in this game and they didn't want to risk going over-budget with the voice acting (which may or may not have been a reason why the support conversations in Echoes were so short. There are several potential explanations for that). From a different angle, while the characters may not have commented upon the enemy or themselves missing an attack, Awakening and Fates did have the pair-up system. This allowed units to say something before the battle, when defending their ally or attacking in a dual strike, and characters had a different set of quotes if their partner defeated the enemy. Meanwhile, the adjutant system in Three Houses rarely activates and I'm not certain if there even is any unique quotes for when it does occur. It is small, but it does result in there being less potential things for units to say, which becomes more noticeable when making comparisons. With that said, I am still on my first playthrough of Three Houses, and while there are several things about the game I can say for certain that I like or don't like, I am largely taking a "wait-and-see" approach towards the game. I don't know all the ins and outs yet, so perhaps the characters in Three Houses do pipe up more often in battle that I initially thought, and I quite simply haven't encountered situations where they would often do so. Again, I'm curious about what other peoples have to say regarding the topic.
  4. I've never been a huge fan of any of the writing in the Fire Emblem games. It's usually serviceable at best. For the most part this game falls into that category but I'll admit there were a number of times where the writing in this game really struck me with how good it was. So, I thought it would be fun to post your favorite lines from the game and explain what made them stand out. Please use the spoiler tag if you think it's necessary. Looking forward to seeing what lines were your favorite! Have fun!
  5. So I was playing through FETH today and I'm on Chapter 4 : The Goddess's Rite of Rebirth and I decided to do the logical thing and try to kill the Death Knight with my little squishy mages. I'm playing through with the Blue Lions and of course this Death Knight is cutting through most of my units when suddenly I throw Mercedes at him. He...has...unique dialogue with her and only her from what I've seen so far. The dialogue goes M: Oh my, how frightening! Won't you please go easy on me? DK: You...was this meeting...preordained? M: Hmm? What do you mean? I was wondering about it until I looked up Mercedes. Her voice actor is the same as Rinea from FE Shadows of Valentia. I'm thinking this is an easter egg and the Death Knight represents fallen Berkut. Either way, it's very interesting! The DK's death dialogue when she smites him is the same as it is with anyone. Has anyone else found unique dialogue like this?
