  1. What did you guys think about about Battalions? What was the best battalion, in your opinion? Were they too strong, too weak or perfectly balanced? How did they compare to the pair up mechanic from Awakening and Fates?
  2. Since starting Fire Emblem: Three Houses, I've been noticing small details ranging from gameplay to presentation from the 3DS games at least that were either retained or absent in this one. Some of the exclusions were understandable, while others were less so. One of the things I observed was that characters in Three Houses tended to speak less in battle when compared to the 3DS games. I can think of a few reasons for why this may be the case, although I am curious if other's share a similar opinion and/or if I simply haven't encountered many situations where the units do speak up in battle. Now, in Shadows of Valentia may have the most chatty Fire Emblem cast that doesn't include written dialogue. They comment on enemies missing, failing to hit themselves, their allies doing well or needing healing, and there are a number of unique quotes between units that were close to each other, such as Forsyth and Python, Mae and Boey, Luthier and Delthea, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if the increased battle quotes were a way of compensating for the lower quantity of support conversations in Echoes, as well as how not every character would be active in the story after a certain point. In contrast, characters in Three Houses speak up a lot more in both the story and in side conversations such as during exploration, support conversations, group activities, and so on. Players can still get an idea of what characters are like even if they are outside of their class. Because of this, perhaps the developers though that having units talk a lot in battle would be redundant or unnecessary, and/or that there was enough dialogue in this game and they didn't want to risk going over-budget with the voice acting (which may or may not have been a reason why the support conversations in Echoes were so short. There are several potential explanations for that). From a different angle, while the characters may not have commented upon the enemy or themselves missing an attack, Awakening and Fates did have the pair-up system. This allowed units to say something before the battle, when defending their ally or attacking in a dual strike, and characters had a different set of quotes if their partner defeated the enemy. Meanwhile, the adjutant system in Three Houses rarely activates and I'm not certain if there even is any unique quotes for when it does occur. It is small, but it does result in there being less potential things for units to say, which becomes more noticeable when making comparisons. With that said, I am still on my first playthrough of Three Houses, and while there are several things about the game I can say for certain that I like or don't like, I am largely taking a "wait-and-see" approach towards the game. I don't know all the ins and outs yet, so perhaps the characters in Three Houses do pipe up more often in battle that I initially thought, and I quite simply haven't encountered situations where they would often do so. Again, I'm curious about what other peoples have to say regarding the topic.
  3. For those of who are interested in the combos and pair ups. I am unsure if this has been posted on another thread, but I thought perhaps it would be good to have its own. Please lock the thread if admins feel it is not applicable.
  4. As we all know, pair-up has become somewhat of a staple in the FE series. However, I was thinking: why not make it more representative of actual war? And so, I came up with the idea of flanking. The idea of flanking is that you get a bonus for every ally that is 'covering' an enemy. After all, in a real war, if one warrior is facing ten enemies, (s)he would have to multitask so much that (s)he won't be able to concentrate. So, here's how it could work: If any unit is able to attack another unit, they are 'flanking' the victim unit. If the flanking unit is alone, they reduce all of the victim's stats by 1. If they are paired up, they reduce all of a the victim's stats by 2 (as they are technically 2 units). The weapons triangle advantage would give two bonus flanks. For example, if these units were placed in a line: Player general (solo) Player bow fighter (solo) Player pegasus knight (paired) Enemy sword fighter (solo) Player axe cavilier (solo) Player mage (paired) and you were to attack with the pegasus knight, the enemy would be flanked 8 times (4 units attacking + 2 are paired + 2 bonus because lances beat swords. The general on the left doesn't count as 'in range', as it would have to move before attacking.), so all of their stats would be reduced by 8. (Note: stats would be able to go below 0) Your lance fighter would only be flanked once, and only take one penalty point in each stat. This leads to a net gain of 7 stat points to the player unit. This means you deal 14 extra damage, take 14 less damage, AND have a huge buff to hit, avoid and crit. Granted, this is an extreme case, and it would normally be significantly less powerful in actual combat, but this could help massively against bosses, which would also allow us to see more powerful bosses take to the enemy side. As far as flanking is concerned, all units are equal. It doesn't matter if you're a helpless green villager or the pre-promote, it's always one flanking bonus per unit. So, you may want to keep your villager rescue party at the front lines where you wouldn't otherwise. Also, if a battle were to contain three or more opposing factions (maybe in a 4-player PvP), the enemies may end up flanking each-other! However, to make pair-up not completely broken, it would have to be nerfed to about +4-8 bonus (depending on supports) split among all stats, rather than the +12-16 we see in awakening and fates. So, what do you think of the idea? Could this be the next great change to the series, or is this just me being stupid.
  5. So I was searching pair up bonuses and comparing for a team I had in mind for PvP, so I looked into pair up bonuses and found this: Felicia PS= 2+ Damage, Receive -2 Damage Jakob PS= Receive -3 Damage , +15 Avoid Felicia C=Hit rate +10, Avoid +5 B=Critical Evade +5 A=Avoid +5 S=Avoid +5, Critical Evade +5 Felicia Spd +1 Res +1 Mag +1 Spd +1, Res +1 Jakob C=Hit rate +10, Critical +3 B=Critical Evade +5 A=Critical +3 S=Critical +3, Critical Evade +5 Jakob Str +1 Spd +1 Skl +1 Str +1, Skl +1 EDIT: Forget it, she gives the same amount of avoid when not paired up, but when paired up is less than him, lol sorry.
  6. Hi, I'm just a little confused regarding the pair up system. In fire emblem awakening when paired up you get stat boosts but also bonuses such as Crit Chance and Avoid, Hit Rate and Dodge, I'm just wondering whether this system of bonuses works the same as Awakening or if there is a different system for this. If anyone can direct me to an already present thread or have any idea how it works it would take the ease of my mind.
