  1. Version 2.0 is here! Over four years after the original release, version 2.0 of FE5 Reverse Recruitment is here! The hack has been completely rebuilt using newer hacking tools. Major changes include: The patch now includes the Lil' Manster translation and QoL patch. All credit goes to Miacis and the rest of the Lil' Manster team. For details on the Lil' Manster patch, see here. No currently known glitches Personal weapons are the same as they are in vanilla - no wacky makeshift personal weapons anymore Ronan no longer uses swords, and other similar weird work-arounds have been removed Characters generally have correct palettes in battle (A few characters will use default palette until they promote). Character portraits are changed during dialogue (Note: portraits are not changed during the world map sequences) A few units have some different weapon ranks on secondary weapons, since weapon ranks now follow a new formula when swapping characters that don't have the same number of weapons Authority stars are now swapped, instead of being based on the original unit. Special events items have been changed to be relevant to the unit Some chest items in the Manster arc have been updated to be more relevant for the units you have Other minor changes that are inherent to the fact that the hack was rebuilt Screenshots Patch V2.01 Patch This is an IPS patch, so you will need an IPS patcher such as FLIPS to apply them. The patch should be applied to a clean, japanese, unheadered, V-ROM version of Thracia 776. You will know the ROM is unheadered if the filesize is 4096 KB. Spreadsheet I have created a spreadsheet with a list of which units swap, unit stats, and special events. See here. FAQ Do characters have their normal growths? How did you calculate the character base stats? Character growths are kept the same. Base stats were calculated by either leveling or "deleveling" characters to their new level, and adding in or subtracting promotion bonuses as necessary. When leveling or "deleveling" characters, all promotions were assumed to occur at level 10. What about Weapon Ranks? Weapon ranks are based on the character that is being replaced. Example: Vanilla Dagdar had A rank in Axes, E rank in bows. Amalda, who replaces Dagdar, now has an A rank in swords, and an E rank in staves How do you get through Manster without a thief? Every character that joins in the Manster arc now joins with 3 door keys in their inventory, so there are plenty of door keys to get through Manster. Some additional door keys have also been added to enemies throughout the Manster arc. Why doesn't Galzus have insane health like he does in vanilla? Galzus's HP is the one stat that is nerfed from what it "should be" based on the calculations for balance. It won't work in my emulator. What should I do? Use SNES9X. The English patch expands the size of the ROM, which some older emulators don't like. Who are the route split characters? A Route Characters: Brighton (Alba must be dead or unrecruited), Macha, Lifis, Dagdar B Route characters: Ronan, Marty, Eyvel How do supports work? Supports are based on the new characters. So Galzus only supports Mareeta, he doesn't support most of the army like Leif does. Credits Credits to Miacis and the Lil' Manster team for the translation and QoL improvements, and this hack was built with the Lil' Manster teams hacking tools. Many thanks to ZaneAvernathy for all of his work in FE5 dissassembly. Also thanks to Kirb who helped me with some documentation during earlier development of this hack. V2.0 Changelog V2.01: Fixed an issue where Galzus's authority stars underflowed.
  2. [Prelude:] Since it's been a while I haven't updated the topic a lot. Important to note that the Discord has evolved significantly and now features info and access to not only FE10 RR, but also a lot of other mods such as PvP and information on the FE10 support for the twitch crowdcontrol extension! If you're interested in all that, join the discord! [Discord] https://discord.gg/THaauc8QJm [Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn - Reverse Recruitment] Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn has always been my favorite game from a gameplay perspective. And since I didn't really mind the faults/inconsistencies with the story, it is a game I keep coming back to. However, the balancing of the game is quite strange, and at some point I'll want to start a balancing patch. RD is not the most hacked game and since there's not as much in the form of resources compared to FE7 etc, I thought I'd start this by learning the hex editting one step at a time. So that's where this patch comes in. The premise of the Reverse Recruitment is rather simple, and also fun for the drafting community, since there probably hasn't been one of those yet. It's also a great way for me to learn the inner workings of RD one step at a time, since you have to apply the same basic action to pretty much every character; swapping them with another. However, script dialogue, base convo's that recruit people, talk conversations te get people to join and other events all pop up sooner or later and complicate the process of inserting a new character. It's always one thing at a time though, which gives me a great way of easing myself into the depths of the game's code. And thus we arrive at this topic, where I'll be posting updates sporadically since I have a job and busy life (and the weather is just too good to stay inside atm). I would really appreciate it if people would give me feedback on what can be done better, point out bugs and tell if characters need buffs or nerfs. I hope you all enjoy, and thank you for playing! [Patches] Patch 1.3 for the entirety of Part 3 is here! You can download the patch file here: Patches - Google Drive Just go into the folder labeled "Patches" and download the patch file, xdelta is very easy to use. *IMPORTANT: There are still some bugs here and there, which are being worked on. the game is altered up to 3-E, though you can continue playing beyond that. be sure to check the "Known issues" file to see what is known to be wrong and please do notify me in the appropriate discord channel of in this topic of any new issues. [How to patch] The patch is made through xdelta, and patches can be applied to ISO files with it's patche program, which can easily be found through a quick google search or in the drive. The only thing you'll need besides the patch file is a RFEP file, which is the European Radiant Dawn ISO. I cannot provide it here [Discord] If you want to discuss the game on other platforms, a Discord link can be clicked here: https://discord.gg/EyPv9py The Discord also has channels for suggestions, bug reports etc so please do come on over! [Excel character swap sheet] You can find the link with the character excel sheet below, you can also find some notes about the excel sheet below, which go into the thought process of making the sheet. https://drive.google.com/file/d/18dYBbU1PJIsWkgLBgw23kt9oQxH52wTM/view?usp=sharing *Small Note, the game has had some minor tweaks compared to the Excel sheet. So not everything is 100% accurate. [Notes] 1] Ok, so there are some things that had to happen to make this a workable Reverse Recruitment. Mostly because there are three herons in this game and if you at some point get two in the same army, the game turns into a one-turn curbstomp. To work around this you'll notice that sometimes units that join at the same time are in a different order than the "recruitment page" on the main site. For example, Nasir and Gareth join at the same time, so you could swap Leonardo with Gareth and Edward with Nasir or vice versa. 2] The Black Knight is not a unit that is allied for the entire game, so he also does not partake in the list and is regarded as a free unit as long as he is part of your army. He is however sporting a new set of armor. 3] When you remove the herons and the Black Knight from the list, you are left with 69 playable characters. So unit number 35 does not switch places since that unit is smack dab in the middle. The units who is exactly in the middle is, in this case, Ike! Having Ike stay as the main character makes it a lot easier since this does not require me to alter seizing ability and things like godslaying skills. 4] Regarding the herons, they swap with each other. Leanne takes Rafiel's Place. Rafiel takes Reyson's place and Reyson takes Leanne's place. Good luck with new positioning and vigor strategies! 5] The Light mage and Light Sage classes now promote into Chancellor, since Micaiah arrives in Tier 3. They all keep the chancellor model and as seen in the excel sheet Lehran has altered growths and promotion gains. The same goes for Sanaki. Sanaki starts as a Thundersage, almost ready to promote. She turns into her regular Empress class. 5] The worst unit in the game swaps with the best one, Lyre swaps with Haar. Which is rather amusing. Fiona swaps with Tibarn, both have saviour which is nice. There are some fun things to find out. 6] Elincia arrives later, so she has altered growths and bases, since she does not have a Tier two model and all falcoknights are already in use so I can't immediately throw her model over them. [FAQ] Q: "How exactly do I play this?" A: You'll need a working emulator (dolphin is recommended), a fresh FE10 (EU) ISO, and a program used to patch the file (to the ISO) I have provided. xDelta works fine. Patch the ISO file using that program.* Q: "What are you trying to accomplish with this hack?" A: Mostly this Hack is a challenge to myself. I have thought about impproving Radiant dawn for years and now I'm finally taking the steps to learn how to do that. Besides this, a Reverse Recruitment hack would be a nice new way to play the game for casual gamers, but also for drafters. This is possible with most Fire Emlem games at the moment, but not with the GC/Wii games. Q: "The game offers almost the exact same items as before, why do I get a Brave Sword when i need laguz items?!" A: Adjusting items to suit your new units is something that has been added. Currently units get some items that will benefit them directly, like laguz stones, but also some more indirect advantages. Expect the Cards to be valuable in the early stages of the game when you need to be able to attack without taking a counterattack. I welcome any and all feedback regarding items. I do not want to bombard the player with laguz stones, so things like shine barriers and pure waters are items i would like to play around with. Q: "What difficulty should I play?" A: Normal mode. Q: "Why are the cutscenes so weird?" A: The game wants to load the normal characters, but can't so a lot of weird movements happen and it's like ghosts are talking. It has no gameplay impact and cannot be changed. Q: "Any general tips?" A: You will be getting only a few Olivi Grasses and Stones in the beginning of the game at the moment, but you will also be getting two blood tides, night tide and white tide, so positioning is key! Q: "I will be getting Royals in part one, this game will be a cakewalk!" A: I would not count on it, most laguz are balanced in such a way that while they may be strong and have high Hp, their defenses are lowered quite a bit. This also means growths are adjusted, which means BEXP might be more useful for them now, instead of just giving HP, Skill and Luck. High level early laguz hardly gain exp however, so be sure to not overly rely on them.
  3. I've been working on a FE6 RR hack, seen here: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=63618 I decided after playtesting a bit on Normal and determining the difficulty was where I wanted it, I should probably playtest hard mode and make sure that it is where I want it in terms of difficulty. Hopefully, it will be a bit easier than FE6 hard mode, but still hard. And I've decided to make the playtest a bit more fun, by straight up LPing it! This will allow me to show off the features of this hack and get some feedback and suggestions. I won't be showing off the edited script though, mainly because it isn't finished yet. As far as route splits go, I'm doing Ilia because it's easier and has a better character(though getting it is harder, since you have to make sure your peg knights get more exp than the ever so useful Elphin and Fae). For the chapter 9 split, I'll be doing both routes and then letting you guys vote which one is canon. Now, without further adieu, here's Chapter 1! And that's chapter 1 done! It's actually harder than I expected. It was still pretty easy for the most part, but it had a few toughish parts. I doubt I could make it through vanilla FE6 hard mode. I can't wait until I get a healer next chapter.
  4. Have you ever wanted to use a character that can warp anywhere on the map at will? Tear Ring Saga gave us that ability, but the two characters that had it joined late. Well, now in TRS RR you can use them from the start of the game! Have you ever wanted dual female lords? TRS RR has that too! Have you ever wanted a thief lord with 1 base STR and a 0% STR growth rate? Probably not, but you will get one of those in TRS RR too! Screenshots See here for some screenshots of the fun that is to be had. Patches Patch for vanilla V1.04 to RR V1.02: Here The patch should be applied to a .bin file that has already been patched with V1.04 of Aethin's English translation patch. You can obtain the English patch here. These are all xdelta patches, so use your favorite xdelta patcher (Delta Patcher and xdelta UI are two I know of) to patch it. Guide I have made a handy Spreadsheet Guide that covers recruitment, unit stats, learned skills, promotion gains, events, and other notes. It should have basically everything you need to know while you're playing TRS RR. Note that there are multiple tabs in the spreadsheet. Be sure to check out the "Other Notes" tab, it has some important information! FAQs Do characters have their normal growth rates? How did you calculate the character base stats? Yes, none of the characters growth rates were changed at all. Character base stats were obtained by using their growth rates and leveling or "deleveling" them to their new level. Promotion bonuses were also added or subtracted as necessary. In TRS there are some classes that don't promote, what happens to units that replace these classes? I took this on a case-by-case basis: The Royal Knight class is considered a promoted version of the Cavalier class The Shadow Knight class is considered a promoted version of the Shadow Lancer class Leda Princess is considered a promoted version of Princess Prince is considered a promoted version of Lord. Artilleryman, Chief, Witch, and Pirate are considered promoted classes, but with no unpromoted version. Thief is considered an unpromoted class. How are PRFs handled? All PRF weapons now belong to the unit who replaced them. So Juni can use Holmes' holy sword, Tia can use Runan's holy sword, etc. There are also a few unique situations regarding PRFs: Alicia and Meriel swap places, so Alicia gets a thunder magic version of Starlight (called Starstorm lol) and Meriel gets Dire Light (Which replaces Dire Thunder). Alicia also gets Aura rain, but that is still light magic, so you will have to promote Alicia if you want to be able to use Aura rain. Esther replaces Rishel, so she gets the Sunspear, which is a 1-3 range lance that replaces Sunflame. Plum and Lionheart swap places. Lionheart obviously can't use the Enarmor staff, so that became Renee's PRF instead (Since Renee is now the one that gives it to Lionheart in the event) In Vanilla Alfred joins in the final chapter to prevent the player from softlocking the game if they do not have Sierra/Renee alive. Is there any failsafe to prevent the game from softlocking in RR? Yes, I did put a failsafe in. Kreiss, who replaces Alfred, will have a warp scroll in his inventory when he joins in the final chapter. It will allow him to learn warp. Credits Many thanks to Aethin, who answered numerous questions I had throughout the hacking process. Programs used to create this hack were HxD, CDMage, TIM Viewer, and TRSModify. Changelog V1.02: Based on discord suggestions, changed Zieg's starting class to be Shadow Lancer instead of Cavalier, since that makes more sense. V1.01: Fixed Letena's portrait when she joins in chapter 2.
  5. Hello all, I've been busy the last few weeks working on a reverse recruitment patch for Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. So far I've been able to change al units to their corresponding counterparts up until 1-4. from that point onward, you have a Base, with Base conversations. To trigger the base conversations, you need certain characters in your party. (E.G.: Micaiah & Sothe for the Recruit Meg convo) This is where I started running into trouble. Since Micaiah had been replaced with Lehran and Sothe has been replaced with Caineghis, the conversations cannot be triggered. I've tried editing the SCRIPTS file, however, changing the PID.[Charactername] offsets did not yield any results. So far I haven't been able to find out how to change base convo requirements. If anyone is knowledgeable about this, I would appreciate the help. The other method I was thinking of was just adding Meg(Or her counterpart rather) to the party immediately, nullifying the need for the convo. Sadly, My work in de DISPOS_C and DISPOS_H files once again failed to deliver any results. I couldn't locate the part in the 68(hex) bits for whether or not a character is part of your current party. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have read the entirety of the RD hacking notes, which were a great help, however, this piece of code is unknown as far as that topic is concerned.
  6. So, as you may or may not know, I made a Reverse Recruitment hack of FE8 where I included the CC characters into the recruitment reversing, leading to Lyon being the Lord, Fado being the Jagen, etc. Said hack can be found here if you're interested: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=63349 Anyway, I got the idea to do a similar thing with FE6 using the Trial Map characters. Here's a list of who swaps with whom: In addition to reversing recruitment, I did make some gameplay edits as well, most of it involving buffing units since FE6 gives you a lot of shit units, but I did do a few other things as well, mainly to make the game less frustrating. I'll probably do a complete list once the patch is out, but I cba rn. Ideally the patch should be easier than vanilla FE6, but not excessively so. Now, one thing I'm doing, that most other RR hacks don't bother with, is actually editing the script so the game still has a coherent plot. Characters have the same role as the unit they replace, but for the most part retain their original personality, So for example, while Narcian may be a leader of a group of mercenaries now, he's still extremely narcissistic and smug. So far I have Chapter 1 and 2 and the tutorial done. I'll probably release a patch once I have the main plot done, with another one to follow once I get the rest of the text edited. Now, to fulfill the obligatory screenshot requirement, have some pics of Narcian's new dialogue: Feel free to leave any questions, suggestions, comments, etc.
  7. I was bored: Main units (except Avatar): Chrom - Nowi Lissa - Tharja Frederick - Flavia Sully - Cherche Virion - Basilio Stahl - Tiki Vaike - Say'ri Miriel - Olivia Sumia - Cordelia Kellam - Henry Donnel - Anna Lon'qu - Libra Ricken - Gregor Maribelle - Panne Gaius - Gaius Children (except Morgan): Lucina - Nah Owain - Noire Inigo - Laurent Brady - Yarne Kjelle - Gerome Cynthia - Severa I'll make a spreadsheet for this later. If you're wondering why the mothers are all over the place, I swapped the children's places first, and then swapped the mothers based upon which of the Gen II units swapped with each other. For example, since Owain traded places with Noire, Lissa and Tharja in turn swapped places. Chrom was a weird case. Since I didn't incorporate Morgan into the list due to difficulties, Chrom and Nowi had to trade places to make things run more smoothly for Nah and Lucina. So...yeah. Nowi's the main lord of FE13. Come at me, haters. And poor Gaius didn't swap with anyone. Oh well.
