  1. Originally conceived in tribute to Mel Brooks's new miniseries History of the World, Part II, here I offer what no other writer's done: Fire Emblem meets 'Borscht Belt' humor (or my close approximation of it), with a bit of something completely different thrown in for good measure. Be warned, some jokes have been slightly tweaked--just in case. They said the worlds of Fire Emblem couldn't get any funnier. They're about to be proven wrong, for better or worse, thanks to two of the great spoof masters. Guest-starring Steve Martin as Theodoric of York: Medieval...Jack-of-All-Trades...and "Weird Al" Yankovic as the head monk of 'the Order of Our Father of Perpetual Refrain'... *Disclaimer: I own nothing of Nintendo, Intelligent Systems, the work(s) of one Melvin Kaminsky and friends, or the work(s) of certain Misters Chapman, Idle, Gilliam, Jones, Cleese, and Palin. I'm just here to be amusing. Additionally, the events depicted are to be imagined in the visual style of DeviantArt user arktoons.* Prologue It was dawn at Askr Castle as the Gatekeeper of Garreg Mach watched the sun rise over the hills from his position at the entrance. Though vigilance was always part of his duty, he made sure to take the time to take in sights like a sunrise, one of those little things that shouldn't be taken for granted. He soon found that he wasn't alone in his musings when the Summoner walked up to him with two steaming mugs in-hand. "Greetings, Summoner!" the Gatekeeper said with a salute. "Nothing to report, so far." "At ease, McCarley," the Summoner said in turn as he handed one of the mugs to the Gatekeeper in question. "And I've told you before, no need to be so formal with me. Kiran'll do just fine." "Er, right, sorry about that," McCarley replied. "Force of habit." "I hear that," Kiran concurred as the two 'clinked' their tea mugs before taking a sip and watching the sunrise. "Never get tired of this, given all that goes on here." "You said it," McCarley affirmed, before a puzzled look appeared on his face. "You see that?" Kiran squinted a bit as he looked in the distance. "Yeah, I do--looks like some guy running this way." "Wonder what from?" McCarley asked. Soon, the figure got closer and closer, his panting growing more audible by the minute. The two could now make out the figure occasionally giving brief looks back, as if trying to see if he was being followed, sometimes stumbling as he went. Finally, their concern grew when the man managed to reach their line of sight, at which point he nearly collapsed at their feet, only to be caught by a surprised Kiran. Unsure at first of what to do, McCarley then offered the panting man his cup of tea, which the man took and almost greedily drank in one gulp, the heat not getting to him at all. Upon closer inspection, the man was old, with white hair and a white beard that went down to his upper chest. He wore a red robe with two white stripes that went down along each side, a small black strip inset on each; the red tunic underneath the robe was held in place by a large black-and-white striped belt, and the man wore sandals on his feet. He also carried a staff akin to the kind shepherds usually held. Given the world he originated from, a thought soon occurred to Kiran. Why does this guy look like Moses? he wondered. And then it came to him--the way the old man appeared before them, his look...It all pointed to one thing. Oh, boy--just when I thought this multiverse couldn't surprise me anymore... McCarley, unaware of the Summoner's thoughts at the moment, was doing his best to help the old man be at ease. "Sir, are you okay? What happened? What were you running from?" The old man dropped the empty mug and clutched desperately at the surprised McCarley's collar, before he answered him, in a nearly-hoarse voice, with one single word: "It's-" [Suggested music: "The Liberty Bell", as recorded by the Band of the Grenadier Guards.] Aior0sS@ggitar!us Proudly Presents: Mel Brooks's Monty Python and the Fire Emblem
  2. I had this idea some weeks back, and not to brag, but it seems so brilliant in its relative simplicity. What do you get when you mix one of the most popular recent Fire Emblem entries... With one of the most, if not the, iconic college comedy films ever made? The answer: National Lampoon's Fire Emblem: Five Animal Houses The setup: A more satirical take on the 'academy phase' of Fire Emblem: Three Houses that sees Garreg Mach as home to not just three student houses--Black Eagles, Blue Lions, and Golden Deer--and the unofficial 'fourth house' in the Ashen Wolves, but with the addition of a fifth. The one with a reputation almost as bad as the Ashen Wolves. The Verdant Varmints, whose animal symbol is a rodent of indeterminate species classification. The students: The students of the Verdant Varmints are, like the Ashen Wolves, an eclectic mix of faces from all three major powers on the continent of Fodlan. (They're also essentially the Deltas transplanted to a Fire Emblem setting.) The more prominent members include: -Erich "Otter" Von Stratten - house leader and handsome, confident 'ladykiller' more notorious than Sylvain and Lorenz combined (also on good terms with the former while the latter finds him disdainful). Casual friends with Claude and Yuri due to their mutual penchant for scheming. Class progression: noble - myrmidon - lord - hero -Donal "Boon" Von Schoens - everyman student of the Verdant Varmints, has a casual friendship with Dmitri, Dedue, Raphael, Ignatz, Caspar, and Bernadetta, who he looks out for like a little sister. Boyfriend of fellow Verdant Varmint student Katya, though their relationship can be as rocky as that of Ferdinand and Dorothea or Sylvain and Ingrid. Class progression: noble (minor house) - soldier - cavalier - paladin -Katya - one of the resident magic-users of the Verdant Varmints, and girlfriend of "Boon". Mutual friends with Dorothea, Ingrid, Annette, Mercedes, Hilda, and Petra, casually acquainted with Edelgard, Marianne, and Hapi. Her relationship with "Boon" can be best described as a series of peaks and valleys. Class progression: noble (minor house) - monk - mage - warlock -Roberto of House Hoover - the most straitlaced of the Verdant Varmints, an affable, kind young man who does his best to respect others. The other main magic user of the Verdant Varmints. On friendly terms with fellow study-hards Lindhardt, Lysithea, Ignatz, and Ashe. Class progression: noble (minor house) - monk - priest - bishop -Johann "Bluto" Blutarski - the wildman of the Verdant Varmints. Rude, crude, and not as bright as his fellow students, yet is the one who initiates new recruits into the house. Frequent sparring partner to Raphael, Leonie, Caspar, Felix, Balthus, and Dmitri, who in spite of Johann's attitude has great respect for his unorthodox fighting style. Class progression: commoner - fighter - brigand - warrior -Daniel "Doombringer" Simpson Day - the most skilled horseman of the Verdant Varmints, as well as an expert on building siege weapons (which earns him the respect of Claude and Edelgard). Class progression: commoner - soldier - cavalier - paladin - bow knight -Laurence "Pinto" Von Kroger - newest initiate into the Verdant Varmint house, alongside best friend Kent "Flounder" Van Dorffmann. Casual friends with Ignatz, Ashe, and Caspar. Winds up developing a relationship with Flayn (much to Seteth's chagrin). Class progression: commoner - myrmidon - archer - sniper -Kent "Flounder" Van Dorffmann - like best friend "Pinto", newest initiate into the Verdant Varmints; also something of a legacy member, as his older brother Frederick was a member during his time as a Garreg Mach student. Gets along well with the 'big eaters' of Garreg Mach (Raphael, Ingrid, and Caspar) as well as with Marianne and Bernadetta over their shared status as gentle souls. Leonie, Raphael and Caspar help him get in shape for his class certifications. Class progression: commoner - fighter - armored knight - fortress knight Roles of certain established characters: -Seteth - the 'Dean Wormer' of the story, though less authoritarian. -Manuela - the 'Marion Wormer', to a lesser degree. (Allows for little variations on iconic Animal House lines like "You can take your thumb out of my rear any time now, Hanneman.") -Dmitri - the 'Doug Neidermeyer', though less hostile to the Verdant Varmints -Edelgard - a rough expy for Babs -Hubert - a rough expy for Greg Marmalard -Constance - a rough expy for Mandy -Caspar - a rough expy for Chip Diller Plot: As stated, a more comedic version of the 'academy phase'. Jeralt and his twin children, Byron and Byleth (known in most merc circles by their collective nickname the 'twin Ashen Demons'), save Edelgard, Dmitri, Claude, and Erich from bandits, and are subsequently brought back to Garreg Mach. Jeralt resumes his post as Captain of the Knights of Seiros, while the twins become the academic leaders of two of the houses on campus. Byron chooses to oversee the Blue Lions, while Byleth, to everyone's surprise, chooses the Verdant Varmints. Byleth, in this role, finds herself challenged beyond what she imagined, between "Otter's" charming slyness and "Bluto's" comically berserk antics, among other things; yet over time, this Ashen Demon learns to really cut loose and have fun thanks to her charges. Of course, the antics of the Verdant Varmints draw Seteth's ire, who seeks to find a way to put the house of 90% troublemakers in their place for good. All the while, the Verdant Varmints stumble onto the respective machinations of Edelgard, Those Who Slither in the Dark, and even Archbishop Rhea herself. It all comes to a head when, on the day that Edelgard (with backup from Thales and co.) attacks the monastery and Rhea leads the rest of the Knights and the student body in its defense...the Varmints ruin everything for both sides when they completely disrupt the battle in a mightily comedic climax. Rhea (flatly, on seeing "Bluto" pop out of the Varmints' unconventionally-designed mobile siege weapon, in full warrior attire): "Oh my goddess." Seteth (resignedly, as "Doombringer" drives the weapon towards the Church and Empire leadership at ramming speed): "I hate those guys." Thales (also resignedly): "For once, we agree on something." The sheer absurdity of what happens is enough to finally crack the stoic façade of Shamir, who bursts out laughing at what the Varmints did to the flow of the battle. Well...whaddya think? Does it have potential?
  3. Prologue: Goodbye Fodlan This is it, Jeralt knew. With the fire he just made, he needed to get his kids not only out of the monastery but preferably out of Fodlan and go as far away as possible. He can't risk Lady Rhea getting her hands on the kids. Not when he didn't know what she did to them. When he wasn't even sure what happened to Sitri. His best option was to go as far away as possible. And with his skills, he knew he could work as Mercenary anywhere. The question was where to head to? Most countries around Fodlan don't exactly have the best relation with it, what's with the constant wars and invasions between them, so he probably won't be welcome there, and while the kingdom is improving relations with it's neighbors, the kingdom is also the nation closest to the church. He couldn't risk it. He needed to go farther away. So as far as he knew, Jeralt had three options: Jugdral. A continent with a similar system to that of Fodlan, Jeralt heard. Tellius. Apparently a continent with animal people. Jeralt saw much in his more than a century of living, but never animal people. A newly discovered continent with 2 countries, Nohr and Hoshido. Not much is known about that continent, not even it's name. Soon he will reach the port, and until then, he should've made his decision. Vote here!

  7. https://store.steampowered.com/app/898750/Super_Robot_Wars_30/ I still can't believe this is happening. As a longtime fan of the series, this is... I can't even, it's practically a miracle. Seems to be the Steam version only. Then again, the PS4 and Switch versions can already be bought internationally via region-appropiate accounts, so I guess it makes sense. Although, I have my suspicions there could be some tweaks to at least the script. I already spot one thing that's changed from the English PV1 to the screenshots displayed on Steam. It could just be just a correction or for better display, but it makes me wonder. Regardless... A non OG SRW game is getting an official worldwide release!!! Come on, let's us fans celebrate this! And for nonfans, take this chance to learn about this SRPG game series.
  8. What crossovers, either between a Nintendo series and a non-Nintendo series, or between two Nintendo series, would you want to see, and in what way would you want the crossover to be done? Here's two examples (one for each): Legend of Zelda & Paper Mario: I must admit that I've never actually played a Paper Mario game, but, from what I've seen and heard of the series (particularly the first two games), I think it might be cool to see a "Paper Zelda": essentially a Legend of Zelda game that uses gameplay aspects and animation from Paper Mario. I think it would be cool to see essentially a Zelda RPG with turn-based combat, permanent companions helping out in battle, etc. Fire Emblem & Final Fantasy: I don't know why, but I really want to see a game that combines the combat of Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy 7 Remake; I think it would be a great way to finally have that real-time combat RPG FE spinoff that IS wanted to make years ago.
  9. Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful. But he was born into an unforgiving world. The soulless creatures of Grimm threatened to return Man's brief existence to the void. However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time Mans passion, resourcefulness and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named, Dust. Natures wrath in hand, Man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadows absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. ...or so the legends say. (Thanks to Eldi13 for the title screen background) Intro ----- Fire Emblem: Dust to Dust is a FE8/RWBY crossover hack, set in a Fire Emblem version of Remnant. Despite living in a hostile land, stalked by the soulless creatures of Grimm, the world at large has been at peace for generations. Everything changes when the White Fang, a once peaceful Faunus rights organization, attacks the kingdom of Schnee without warning. This sudden act of terrorism will ignite a fire that consumes all of Remnant, and lay bare the terrible truth of their world. Demo patch now available! Consists of one demo-exclusive chapter: GET IT NOW Stuff! ----- [spoiler=Story!] PART I OUTLINE Prologue: White Fang forces assault Castle Schnee without warning, and Weiss is forced to fight her way out and flee to Vale with a small group of retainers. Her father remains behind for some reason. Chapter 1: On the border of Vale, they are found and attacked by White Fang scouts. They must defeat the scouts quickly before the main force arrives. Chapter 2: Weiss reaches Beacon but her location is betrayed by Mercury and Emerald. The White Fang infiltrate Beacon and Weiss and co must fight them off while protecting the students.Following the failed attack, Mercury and Emerald escape to report to the mysterious Cinder. Weiss decides to leave before reinforcements arrive. Ozpin gives her some supplies and sends some allies with her, but cannot do more. Chapter 3-4: They decide that the best course of action is to seek refuge in Atlas. They require a guide to get through Forever Fall. Ruby offers to take them if they will help her find Yang in the forest. They enter the forest and fight off waves of Grimm, where they find Yang defending a wounded Blake. Passing through the forest, they reach the home of a Gelb, a distant Schnee relative. He is creepy and unpleasant, but his castle is well fortified and he is definitely not White Fang. He tells them that Winter is currently in Atlas, but the Atlesian politicians are cowards and will never agree to help. Chapter 5: Blake is uneasy and sneaks out of her room that night. She discovers that Gelb is enslaving Faunus and forcing them to fight captured Grimm for sport. With his crimes revealed, Gelb turns on the group, using the slaves as human shields. Chapter 6: Faced with the reality of Faunus subjugation, Weiss wonders if the White Fang is justified. Blake reveals herself as a Faunus, and condemns the White Fangs disregard for innocents. Suddenly she tackles Weiss just as an arrow flies in the window. The army must hold the line against waves of White Fang troops. Finally when all hope seems lost, a squadron of Pegasus Knights led by Winter swoops in, followed closely by the Atlesian military smashing into the rear of the White Fang. Chapter 7: Weiss and Winter return to Castle Schnee with the full might of Atlas behind them. While the Atlesians launch a feigned frontal assault, Weiss and co sneak into the castle via secret passages and take the White Fang by surprise. They defeat the White Fang Lieutenant and retake the castle. Its too soon to celebrate, however. They soon discover that all of the Dust in the castle is gone, stolen by the White Fang. Was this their real motive all along? Winter has more bad news she promised to give Atlas huge amounts of Dust in exchange for their aid. The Atlesian senators are irate and take control of Castle Schnee. Meanwhile, Ruby runs into a strange girl named Penny. In a darkened room, Cinder meets with one of the senators. END OF PART I [spoiler=Animations!] Weiss: Blake: Yang: Ruby: Pyrrha: [spoiler=Mugs!] Ruby Weiss Blake Yang Jaune Nora Pyrrha Ren Coco Sun Scarlet Sage Neptune Penny Winter [spoiler=Music!] All of these MP3s are recorded in game from the Sound Room. 10. I've been writing on and off for a while, but between a relatively recent replay of Echoes and a less-recent replaying of GotHW, I came up with a Crossover story centered around Sigurd surviving Belhalla in a modern AU where he finds himself barred from contacting anyone he ever knew. While I'll try to update it here first from here on, here's the first chapter of Little Chalphy (link leads to AO3, so warning if your Job/School forbids access to it). Any feedback is welcome here. While I've been translating documentation and whatnot for a long time, it was only up until a few years ago that I gained enough confidence to start writing fiction in English, so any daft bits you find that sound odd/goofy/out of place to you, do not hesitate to let me know. Good day to you all and thanks in advance.
  11. NOTE: This post is prone to edit over time as additional content is considered. Over at Zelda Universe I've posted this idea for a Zelda/Fire Emblem mashup. Basically you take Fire Emblem's core gameplay and classes and mix them with Zelda's world and races. The game has three major modes: Campaign Battle invading armies to protect Hyrule in story-based campaigns! The core war strategy game and story. Adventure Explore Hyrule's landscape looking for materials and treasure! This is roughly analogous to Hyrule Warriors' Adventure Maps. Basically, this is where the Zelda series' signature exploration and puzzle-solving gameplay comes in. There are still enemy units to battle, but it's less of two armies fighting and more of a party of scouts skirmishing with enemy camps. Your party consists of 1-6 units, which can come from either your army or generic units. My Village Build and customize your own village to gain food, weapons, and other useful items! Materials found in Adventure Mode are used here to construct buildings which provide you with a variety of useful items and services. A Smithy for example produces weapons while a Farm produces Wheat or Rice. This would serve a similar role to My Castle from Fates. Tribes Hyrule Wars has three major races (Hylians, Sheikah, Gerudo), three secondary races (Gorons, Zora, and Rito), and monster units (like Moblins and Stalfos). The major three races are called so because the majority of the playable units belong to one of them, while the secondary races have fewer but more specialized units. Monster Units are the primary enemies in the game, and function similar to playable units (many of them use the same kinds of weapons) but with some nuances. Each of the six playable tribes feature a host of classes from which their units draw by default; through the Spouse/Friendship system, they can gain access to classes belonging to other tribes. Hylian Fighter Mercenary Archer Knight Cavalier Sky Knight Druid Cleric Troubadour Wolfkin Sheikah Samurai Shrine Guard Scout Ninja Diviner Monk Keaton Gerudo Thief Desert Fighter Desert Guard Bow Rider Desert Mage Wyvern Rider Dragonkin Dancer Zora River Guard Medic Water Mage Goron Bladesmith Mountaineer Geomancer Rito Hawkeye Aerie Guard Shaman Link himself starts as a Champion, which of course uses Swords, and promotes into a Legend, which adds Bows. His secondary class is determined by the player upon starting the game. Zelda starts as a Princess, which uses Bows, and promotes into a Queen which adds Staves. Her secondary class would likely be Sky Knight or Cleric. Incidentally, Champion and Prince/Princess as classes both have gender differences: female Champions start with Bows rather than Swords and gain Swords upon promotion, while a male Prince wields Swords in place of Bows and promotes into King which, like Queen, adds Staves. Weapons The game makes use of a modified weapon triangle, where each color now has melee, missile, and magic weapons. Swords, Axes, and Lances correspond to red, green, and blue as before, but now Tomes are split into Earth/Fire, Wind/Lightning, and Water/Ice magic, while Bombs join Bows and Daggers as the ranged equivalents. Staves and Stones return as colorless, though I'm looking at the possibility of Stones becoming a singular category. As a sidenote about Magic, I understand that for a long time the FE series has featured Fire, Wind, and Lightning as a trio when it isn't Light, Dark, and Anima, and that ice and water magic is usually grouped with wind. I don't know if they were making a conscious effort to avoid the classic Fire Ice Lightning trio, but I find that for Hyrule Wars breaking tradition here works fine as it fits the tribe-class-weapon algorithm. Light and Dark weapons exist as subcategories; Light Weapons tend to be a little weaker on average but offer positive bonuses like boosted damage against certain monster types or passive HP recovery. Light weapon icons feature an aura or glow. Dark weapons tend to be stronger or nastier than normal but have negative side effects such as stat reduction or gradual HP loss. Dark weapon icons have a shadowy aura. Each tribe leans towards certain colors of weapon, though all three colors are available to each tribe. Red - Gerudo and Gorons Green - Hylians and Rito Blue - Sheikah and Zora There exist certain patterns within the various tribes and their class equivalents. For example, each tribe gets one distinct mage class that uses the Tome of their main color (Hylian Druids with Green, Sheikah Diviners with Blue, Gerudo Desert Mages with Red, Goron Geomancers with Red, Zora Water Mages with Blue, and Rito Shamans with Green) and can promote into a Sage class that adds Staves (Hylian Sacred Sages, Sheikah Shrine Sages, Gerudo Desert Sages, Goron Fire Sages, Zora Water Sages, and Rito Forest Sages). The human Mages each can also promote into a class that uses two or more colors of Tome (Hylian Wizards use green and blue, Sheikah Oracles use blue and red, and Gerudo Sorcerers use all three). The nonhuman Mages meanwhile get secondary options that add a type of melee weapon of a complimentary color (Goron Mountain Lords add Axes, Zora River Lords add Swords, and Rito Sky Lords add Lances). The human tribes each get a class that uses weapons of all three colors. Hylians get Great Knight which of course uses Swords, Axes, and Lances, Sheikah get Engineer which uses Bombs, Bows, and Daggers, and Gerudo get the aforementioned Sorcerer which uses red, green, and blue Tomes. Weapon uses return with tweaks. Melee weapons have durability, and no longer vanish when they break; they simply become broken weapons with minimal stats (1 might and no bonus effects). They can be repaired at an Armory. Missile weapons - Bombs, Bows, Daggers - now have ammunition. When the weapon runs out of ammo, you can't use it, but you can reload it. Magical weapons likewise have charges which work very similar to ammunition. Melee weapon uses are only spent if the unit connects, while missile and magical weapons always spend a shot when attacking. Additionally, I would consider introducing Bare Hands as a new special weapon type that can be used by any combat-capable unit with no useable weapon on hand. Bare Hands are colorless, have no statistic benefits whatsoever, and can't critical or trigger special skills. Relationships Like Awakening and Fates, there is a relationship system, though it too receives a few tweaks to accomodate the Gorons. See, Gorons don't reproduce the same way the other five tribes do (as far as we know), so they don't really have a use for marriage. They do however accept outsiders as honorary brothers (and potentially sisters), so that takes the place of marriage for Gorons. They do still have kids and those kids do inherit classes. I'm not sure whether fathers or mothers should be the determinate parents this time; Gerudo kinda require determinate mothers, while Gorons are all male and thus their parents by definition are fathers. Link and Zelda each get a special child in the fashion of Lucina or Morgan in FEA. Link has Linkle as a daughter, while Zelda has a son named Xeldon.
  12. What crossover spinoff do you think would work well? What genre would the crossover be? What lords would you love to see involved? What non lords would you love to see involved? And what other spinoff ideas would you like to see for fire emblem?
  13. Hachiman Hikigaya observed the field in front of him silently as the cold gusts of Hokkaido blew across his face. All around him, grumbling could be heard as the dejected men in his presence complained and despaired. The sharp feeling that could be felt right before a fight hung in the air, and the men he was with did not like that. How could they? He asked himself. These men were now in the eyes of essentially all of Japan, Traitors. The traitors that dared defied the emperor, the traitors that fled up north to Hokkaido and formed a new government in spite of the emperor. Yes, These men were the newly formed republic of Ezo's army. Prior to that, many of these men fought for the shogunate. And even then, those men lost the majority of battles fought in the recent year. Hachiman quietly shared the same sentiment of the men himself. He was after all, conscripted. Forced to fight. Given very little training. And given very little supplies. From Toba Fushimi all the way here to Hakodate, he fought and lost every battle. When it came to losing he considered himself the strongest. The winds blew fiercely as they were cold. Sighing, he took a cigarette from his pockets and lit it. The sparks from his lighter hitting his white gloves as he casually put the lighter back in his pocket. It was still going to be a few hours before the fight, and frankly Hachiman stopped caring. To him it was just another battle, another loss and another defeat. The fact that the men were also grumbling and demoralized didn't help either. Taking a drag, Hachiman quietly self reflected for what he knew was the last time. He was going to die here, He knew it. After all, though he may be conscripted, he still rose rapidly up the ranks. Making the rank lieutenant and having the privilege of not wearing the shabby thin black uniforms of the republic, instead opting for a long black frock coat that provided suitable warmth. He also wore the pants that officers wore, black as night but certainly not cold like it. To top off his outfit, he sported nice leather boots that went up to his knees. Not only did he look like an officer, he acted like it to. Giving orders to attack and retreat when the time was deemed appropriate by himself. It could be said that his unit was one of the only ones that still had over fifty percent fighting strength left in Hokkaido. As he smoked in silence, one of the young recruits rashly spoke up in a loud voice. His mouth letting out puffs of fog as light rain started to fall, his face one of mixed rage and desperation. Gripping his rifle tightly, the recruit shouted; "Come on my friends! the imperial dogs will be here anytime now! this will be an easy fight! all we need is to defend and we shall drive them to the sea in no time!" Receiving silence and being ignored by some, he continued again. With the other new recruits being the main group that listened to him. "Yes! after all, it is our duty to fight for the new republic! to fight against tyranny and those who impose it! we will not r-" "Run away right?" Hachiman cut in. Receiving looks of confusion from the recruit along with some salutes from the older more experienced veterans, He took a drag and for a moment, watched the smoke get swept away by the winds before continuing. "...I am your officer. From Toba Fushimi to here i have fought in every battle so far. Every battle we have tasted defeat. Do not spout false bravado to try and lie to yourself and your fellow comrades. This battle was lost before we even fought it." Pausing, Hachiman took another drag while he had everyone's attention. Looking at the flowers dance on the field due to the wind was indeed a worthwhile sight he thought to himself as he continued speaking. "The truth is, you are all stupid no good wannabees for being here. You wanted to be something your Not, You wanted to be heroes. And because you cant, you now spin up tales. Make up reasons to try and justify your being here. Speaking of courage, of Bushido, Of loyalty and now calling the enemy dogs. You are all the most pathetic fake people i have ever had the displeasure of knowing. I don't want you, the enemy don't want you and this army doesn't want you. Go home boy for i do not need you and your like here. If i am to die, then i would like to die alone on the same field with genuine people." Hachiman said as he spat on the ground near the young recruits feet. The young recruit merely had a look of shock on his face as emotions quickly showed in his eyes. Anger, sadness and humiliation could be sensed from him by everybody as the tears started to form. All around him, the young recruits started to murmur in displeasure of what Hachiman did. The older veterans only remained silent as they looked at Hachiman with understanding eyes. Hachiman however, was used to people talking negatively about him. No matter which insult, no matter what they said, he would not be fazed. Hearing words like creep, defeatist, arrogant and stupid come up did nothing to Hachiman as he merely looked at the sky with a solemn face. Not even bothering to look at them, He continued. "Those of you who murmur against me can leave as well, I despise people like you. Living a fake life, forming cliques and badmouthing those who you don't agree with together as a group. You are all fake lying cowards who lie to try and maintain a fragile image that is just as ugly as yourself." Hachiman was met many shouts of outrage and indignation as he finished. "How dare you!" "And you call yourself an officer? i'm outta here!" "Come on guys, lets go!" The young majority left in anger, the young recruit that had tried to inspire the men following them with his head down. Hachiman merely watched with no change in his face, Still smoking his cigarette as he turned to the veterans. His cold fish eyes eyeing them, only to be met with tired eyes that made him rather uncomfortable. Their eyes reminded him to much of him, there was no hint of care left in those eyes that met his gaze. And silently he nodded at them, walking past them to the officers area in the camp. Hachiman walked as he smoked, his left hand gripping the handle of his Katana tightly. The camp was bustling with lots of activity as men rushed here and there, bringing orders and such. Hachiman merely sighed. If he could go home, he would. But unfortunately, it was not going to be that way. He was still an officer with enough experience for the imperials to note, not a random private. Puffing out smoke, Hachiman merely sighed again as he silently decided that this place would be the place where he would die. "Why delay the inevitable?" He muttered to himself as he passed the countless tents in the camp. Stepping on the well used dirt road, Hachiman quickly made his ways into the commanders tent. Deftly lifting the flap cover of the tent, Hachiman quickly stepped in and saluted major. Looking up from his desk, The major simply saluted back in a quick manner as he then looked at the paper he was looking at before Hachiman stepped in. "Major sir." "lieutenant Hachiman. How may i help you?" The major said as he continued reading. "I would like to transfer my unit to the defensive position most closest to the enemy sir." Hachiman said in a neutral tone. His eyes only focusing on the major. "Eager for a bit of action huh? no worries. You'll get your piece of action soon enough." The major said with indifference as he still read his paper. Sighing, Hachiman walked up to the major, stopping only a few inches from his desk. The major noticing this, stopped reading his paper and looked up at Hachiman with a puzzled look on his face. Hachiman merely responded with a "Please sir." and a look that showed he had resigned himself to fight to the death. Quickly showing a determined look on his face, the Major responded. "Absolutely not, we need every man we can get. And why do you ask this? you are most known as one of the best officers in this army! You constantly retreat, so why do you ask of me to put you in a position closest to the enemy?" Hachiman looked at him for a moment before he continued. Pausing, then giving him his answer. "Sir... there is only so much death you can see, so much bullets landing near you and so many defeats that you can bear before you stop caring... And don't think of me throwing my life away, think of me resolving to fight for this republic to the last man. If anything, we at the very least can slow down the imperials as they land. Buying time for our forces." Hachiman said with no emotion. "No! your units one of the precious few that are composed mainly of veterans! we can't lose them no matter what you say!" The major said clearly as he looked Hachiman right in the eyes. "The fact that they are veterans is better. Let the experienced men fight the enemy first, if they break through, they'll be weak. If they don't then it will be either a standstill or a loss for the enemy. Either way, our new recruits still need more training to be combat ready. They're mindset is still not that of a soldiers." Hachiman said calmly, keeping his poker face on as he watched the Major wince at the logic of his words. "If there are any new recruits left." Hachiman thought to himself as he looked at the Major with his eyes, Never moving, never blinking he unnerved the Major as he quickly replied. "B-but, we still have the fortress to fall back to!" The major said in a panicked tone, Trying to find a way to keep Hachiman's precious veterans alive from certain death. "Sir, if we fall back to the fortress then we would have already lost." Hachiman said bluntly, not caring anymore about subtlety or politeness. "Forgive my disrespect sir, but i'm going no matter what you say. I am an officer, the enemy knows of me. As such, I could not run even if i wanted to. I find it only acceptable that i introduce myself to them formally." Hachiman stated with an edge in his words. Trembling in frustration, The major simply nodded to Hachiman. He knew who really had the power here. Not one person in the new army did not know of Hachiman and his prowess on the battlefield. Hachiman, had fought and lead with competence in every battle that was fought while the Major here had not a single one under his belt. Hachiman also had many good points brought up. In this situation, each minute was equal to a bar of gold. The recruits were still to green, the enemy had to much numerical superiority over them and Hachiman would merely go to the closest position near the enemy no matter what he said. Sighing, the major gave the go ahead as he rested his forehead on his hands. columns of imperial troops marched to Hachiman's position. Not even needing to waste his breath, he let his veterans fire at will. Seeing the look of surprise of the faces of the imperial troops greatly humored Hachiman. Like any sensible soldier, they did not expect to be shot at with such accuracy at this distance. Quickly scrambling into line formation, the imperial troops let out a loose volley, only for it to hit ought but the dirt in front of the trench. Calmly reloading, the imperials then proceeded to march forward to Hachiman's position, All the while taking losses as they marched. Breathing calmly, Hachiman closed his eyes in preparation. Soon, he thought. It would be over. His friends, the war... it would be over soon he thought as he gripped his Katana. The year he had spent with the shogunate forces as a conscript were taxing on him to say the least. At first he tried to run, several times at that. But every single time he was caught, and as punishment was sent to the units that would engage the imperials first. And every time he would live, slaying the enemy and breaking down at night when no one else was around. Thinking back on it, Hachiman didn't know why he was promoted in the first place. After the battle of Edo, he was merely granted his Katana and Wakisashi, along with a small bag of money to buy things he would need as an officer. It was weird, he should be repulsed by every memory of him serving the shogunate but he oddly didn't hate it. The imperials marched on, getting closer. It was weird for him, to not hate the people who forced him to fight. He didn't stay with the shogunate out of loyalty mind you, he despised the word...No he stayed because they needed him, wanted him. They never lied to him, they spoke crudely but with a genuine determination to win the war for the Shogun. He also made friends, In all of his life where he felt like a nobody, A loner not in any pack. People actually befriended him, Looking past his appearance and enjoying his company. He made some friends, had relationships that felt genuine. His experiences didn't feel fake, forced or superficial for the most part. There was always gonna be fake people But well, once you start getting shot at you generally tend to stop caring about differences or about the appearance about the guy next to you. Now, as much as he doesn't despise the Shogunate and now, the Ezo Republic, He didn't like them much either...But, the for the first time in his Life... He felt alive. Stopping at 25 yards, the imperials let out a solid volley. Hitting some of Hachiman's men as they reloaded, they quickly and efficiently finished. Continuing on, they moved forward with professionalism and silence, The only ones speaking or making noise being the officers. He generally despised fighting, preferring books over the sword and talking over throwing punches. He hated the fact that he could now kill a man with no hesitation. He hated the fact that he stopped flinching whenever a gun fired near him. He hated the fact that he stopped caring, He hated it...and yet, He didn't despise it that much either. He merely accepted it as a sad fact of life. He accepted that these feelings, what made him change where necessary. He accepted the fact that doing the heroic or right thing could and would get you killed. He accepted that he would have to break the codes of Bushido...he accepted that he had become something that can only be redeemed in death. In acceptance he merely climbed up the Parapet, raised his Katana and charged at the enemy that were so close in front him, His men following suit as well. "FOR THE REPUBLIC!" Corrin sighed in frustration as she felt her tears bubbling up. After finding out that her father, King Garon intended her to stay in the castle for this year as well, She couldn't take it. She quietly sneaked out of the castle that night, finding solace and comfort in her favorite spot in the old forest. The instructors and everyone around her had already told her multiple times that it was unsafe to go outside. But she didn't care, she had been doing this for years behind their backs and she would keep doing so. It was a tranquil space, calm and quite with birds and deer frequenting it. A clear beautiful pond, surrounded by Trees as old as the dragons. With many animals gathering around it constantly, calmed and majestic in all their glory. At night the pond gave a very dazzling dark blue glow as well, this along with the blue glowing mushrooms that grew from the worn down logs along side the pond simply made her feel like her anxiety's were washed away every time she would visit. But not this time. She had been locked up in that castle for as long as she could remember. It was her 18th winter on this world and yet she was still trapped, like a bird in a cage. It was lonely where she was, in a land that was constantly cold and always barren. Day in and day out, it was receiving lessons from her tutors, No breaks and not even a single praise. They were also hard on her on as well, looking down upon her, treating her like an outsider and not bothering to repeat what they said twice. She was abysmal in training of the sword, terrible in arithmetic and of the scientific understanding. The only thing she could even do with out missing up so terribly was magic. And even then her spells were so weak that they merely annoyed those on the receiving end of her spells. She merely looked at the pond as she felt her heart tremble, would she be worth anything? could she do anything right? Would she ever get to see the world? Or would she forever be trapped in the northern fortress? Destined to rot away like a flower in a tundra? She quite looked forward to her siblings visiting whenever they had the time. It always improved her mood when she actually had people to talk to, to have fun with and forget about her harsh drab life. But when they left, she would soon quickly revert back into her ways. Living on in a world she found gray, with occasional drops of color visiting her and giving her joy. Gunther, Felicia and everyone that was even remotely kind to her were gone, in the capital due to some business. Perhaps due to this she had picked picked up the habit of smoking, secretly buying a pipe when a traveling Anna visited them to do trade. Sure, the stench of the tobacco leaves were nauseating, if not stinky. But she found the time passing by quickly when ever she indulged herself to the pipe, calming her down in a constant wave of rejection and failure. The instructors wouldn't notice anyway, they never noticed with their cruel and cold eyes. Taking a huff, she silently looked up to the night sky, Longing for the oh so distant stars glimmering next to the pale enchanting moon. However, a certain rustling nearby roused her from her stupor as she looked at the direction from whence the sound came from. Taking caution, she got herself into a basic fighting stance. Eyeing the area where the noise came from with nervous silence. She wasn't much of a fighter, She always thought the forest to be safe. But just in case, she had brought a rapier. Still a beginner in the ways of the sword, she had brought something that could keep her somewhat of a distance away from a foe if she ever got caught in a fight. Gulping nervously, Corrin had neglected to bring any Armour. Instead, opting to wear a comfortable tunic along with some warm hemp pants. She also noticed the animals leaving quickly, a sign that what ever was out there was bad news. Controlling her breathing, she couldn't help but to tremble at the thought of fighting. Soon enough, out of the bushes appeared seven men. Clad in Hoshidan armor, They merely grinned at the sight of her. "Got you." They said as they pulled out their swords. Corrin nervously eyed them for a few moments as she tried to calculate her chances. Three of the seven men sported myrmidon armor while the last four wore the armor of sword masters. Immediately knowing that she could not possibly fight off of these strange men that bore Hoshidan armor, she did the only thing she could do. Run. She ran with all her might in fear of her life. She didn't need nor want to know why these strangers pointed their swords at her and she didn't care to find out. "Running huh? very well! run! i love a good hunt!" The leader of the men said as they chased after her. Dirt kicked up as feet raced across the mossy soil, the gnarled and old path snaking and coiling along the way. The night was eerily quite, with even the insects keeping to themselves. Thinking quickly, Corrin subtly turned left behind a tree. Gritting her teeth, and intending to maim her opponent, she waited shortly see one of her pursuers turn to her direction and run to her. Corrin quickly thrust-ed her rapier, aiming for the mans arm. However, she didn't calculate or, in simpler terms read her opponent correctly as her thrust struck him in the throat. Letting the momentum carry her blade. With horror, she watched as her blade made a crimson flower of blood blossom from her pursuers throat as the man fell down quickly. Coughing up blood, gurgling with a look of shock as the color quickly drained from his face. Corrin could only freeze up at this. Petrified, shock, a whole wave of emotions took over her as she just stood still. Her body wouldn't listen to her and the only thing she could do was watched wide eyed as her pursuers quickly caught up to her. Surrounding her, The leader of the small band of men merely grinned as he started walking up to her. "I'll give it to ya, i didn't expect you to fell even one of us. But oh well, the less men the higher the bounty!" The man said as he threw back and laughed, the rest following suit. Their laughter reminiscent of vultures as they circled around her, growing ever closer. Stopping for a few moments, the leader merely eyed her as a small grin emerged on his face. All the while with Corrin not being able to move, fear overtaking her body at what she had just done and also for the fact that her pursuers looked at her with hungry eyes. Drawing ever closer with their blades drawn. "Now that i get another chance to look at ya, ya quite a looker, Especially with that nice arse and tits ya carrying there! Unluckily for you, the client never said that we couldn't have fun with ya before we off ya." The leader said as he appeared closer, his men following him as they gazed at her with perverted shifty eyes. Corrin could make no sound, make no movement and merely stood there. Her feet planted to the ground and her rapier stuck in the mans throat that she had shockingly killed, not knowing what to do as she could only look at them with big open eyes as the tears started to well up. The only thoughts that she could even conceive were 'Save me!' or 'Please anyone, help!' as the men came closer to her. Closing her eyes, she simply tried to cancel all of this out. Tried to imagine, pretend that this was merely a dream. It was the only thing that she could do as she her body wouldn't move. Her thoughts raced back and forth. Why were these men chasing her? did she really just kill him? At the very thought of that she wanted to puke. Were these men going to have their way with her? what did they mean by client? who wanted her killed? Finally, after a few moments, she felt her voice returning to her. "Ah..." She fought to retain her voice. "AAAAAHHHH!" She screamed. Finally able to muster her voice as she trembled. Just then the sound of a twig snapping could be heard. The bandits quickly turning around to see the origin of the noise so close to them. In front of them appeared a lone man, dressed in black, he also wielded a katana they noticed as he made his entrance. Not stopping even once, the lone man continued walking to them, making not a single sound say for his foot steps that were already shockingly light. Nodding at each other, a sword master walked up to the man, asking him to state his business. "Eh? who the hell are you? this bounty's ours mate-" The man barely finished as his head was cut clean off. The sword that dealt him the killing blow now speckled with his life's blood. Seeing this, the other men cautiously got into battle positions as they looked at him with unease. The way this new lone man swung his sword was not only fast but had this... determination behind it. The leader thought as he held his sword at the lone man. "Captain!" "I know!...i haven't seen some one swing a sword like that since the bloody battles to unite the clans under lord Sumeragi..." The leader said as he gritted his teeth. Seeing the sword stroke convinced him. His demeanor, the air that weighed around him... This man was determined to fight and would not even falter at the thought of dying! The lone mans eyes gave it all away, there would be no talking here. Turning to his cronies, he yelled at them to fight. "Come on boys there's five of you and one of him! finish this so we can get our pay!" The leader shouted as his men charged in reply. The first one, a myrmidon charged at him with his blade above his head. Intending to swing it downwards to crack his head open, he was quickly cut down as the lone man slashed his chest with honed speed. The second sword master charged at him from the left of the now dead myrmidon, trying to catch him of guard as he slashed at his neck and along his chest with his two blades. The lone man saw through that vain attempt as he stepped back, deftly gripping his katana with one hand as he made an over head slash, splitting the sword masters head in half. Three remaining pursuers attacked all at once, not allowing the lone man a position as to where he can move to to avoid the slashes. The lone man simply stared at them as he grabbed the myrmidon that attacked behind him, using a judo move as he grabbed the mans shoulder using him momentum to throw the man over him onto the ground, breaking the myrmidons shoulder in the process and snapping his neck. On his knees, the lone man dodged the other two strikes coming at him as he broke the myrmidons shoulder. Accidentally stabbing each other, the remaining myrmidon and sword master yelled out in a mixture surprise and pain. With no effort at all, the lone man swung his katana at the two men's legs, cutting their tendons and making them drop to their knees in pain. Standing up, he merely looked at the two men as the howled in pain before swiftly swinging his sword, decapitating both instantly in a drizzle of blood. Shaking his sword, he turned to the last remaining man who was now sweating profusely. In a panic, he did the one thing that no warrior would ever do. He hesitated. And that hesitation cost him dearly as the new man walked up to him and deftly stabbed through the weak spot of his Armour. Spitting blood, he lost strength as he dropped to the ground. Looking up to the sky in rage, he used his last breath to curse the man who sent him and his cronies to kill the girl. "Curse you... Anankos!" The man sputtered in rage as he breathed his last. His lifeless body now hitting the earth with a thud. Turning to look at Corrin, the lone man now studied her silently as he wiped the blood of of his sword with a cloth. Sheathing it, he merely stood there as he watched her with his cold eyes. Corrin, relieved that her attackers were now dead, but also scared of this new lone man could only cry as the tears begin to drop. sniffling and sobbing as the tears fell freely. All sorts of emotions hit her once again. Fear, shame, guilt and confusion hit her all at once, making it even harder to comprehend what was going on as she sobbed. Hachiman hesitated as he did not know what to say. Opening his mouth but not knowing what to say, he merely grumbled and took out a cigarette, lighting it as he decided that the best course of action was to wait. Taking a drag, he sighed as he huffed out smoke. Women were never really his strong point, especially after the incident with her. Unpleasant memories flashing through his mind as he smoked. Quickly thinking of something else, he asked himself questions. Like where he was currently? or has Hakodate fallen? or where there any more imperials around? He didn't know. He fought for what he felt like were hours, swinging his blade in a stupor, only caring about slaying his enemies. He didn't think that he had fought for so long for it to turn into night but this had already happened before several times so he quickly shook of that notion. The last thing Hachiman remembered was him charging the imperials. Breaking through the first line after minutes of fighting, then breaking through next one...and the one after that. His memory was a little hazy but he could recall a loud sound that came only from cannon. Then next was the smoke, thick heavy and suffocating, he remembered fighting the imperials in the smoke as he only pressed forwards, not giving a thought nor care in the world about being wounded. Then next where the trees...did he accidentally advance a little to the west as he fought the imperials? No he was sure he advanced forwards to meet the imperials on the beach...So why? why did this place have trees instead of sand? Taking a drag, he quickly thought of something else, something that was in front of him, something that he could make sense of. Looking at the corpses, he inspected their bright red armors. It was puzzling. Satsuma and choshu had modernized troops with western uniforms...So could this be the clans that switched sides? Aizu's ashigaru sported black uniforms. Jozai and the other clans that he knew off didn't equip their troops this way...So maybe the nanbu? no...they got defeated by the imperials. The enemy had previously said that he hadn't seen Hachiman swing a blade like that since the bloody battle to unify the clans under their lord...what could he have meant? Questions raced through his mind as he stood there and smoked his cigarette, the smoke of the cigarette being the only thing in this situation that he knew for sure without a doubt. "What clan are these men from?" Hachiman muttered quietly in frustration as he racked up the names of various clans. No clan had soldiers with these uniforms and the Armour was only worn by officers and even then that was a rare sight, As Hachiman noted that the officers during his battle to defend the city wore western clothing. He needed to know, if one were to encounter an imperial then there were always imperials nearby. That was a given. The soldiers with headbands bore a chest plate seemed to have been made by some black lacquered wood, a stupid choice in this day and age. Hachiman thought as he examined them. After a few minutes he growled in frustration, using his hand to scratch the side of his head, his white gloves leaving a dull leather feeling on his skin. It was clear as day that these soldiers were strange. That this forest was strange. And the girl sobbing on the ground in front of him was strange. Giving up, the only thing that Hachiman thought was where his location was. To his knowledge the horns of retreat were yet to be sounded, therefore the republic has yet to fall. His duty was not over and the imperials would surely hunt him down even if he tried to make a break for it. Once more he inspected the trees, quickly coming to the realization that he was in a forest. Even more confused, he finally lost his patience. Irritated, he looked over to the girl that he had helped. With hair as white as snow, and eyes as red as fire, she had a stunningly beautiful face. Skin as pale and enchanting as the moon, Hachiman almost gasped in shock of her beauty. Key word, almost. He kept a poker face as he addressed her. "Oi." He addressed her sharply. "Eh?" She replied as she sobbed, the tears momentarily stopping as she looked at him with wide fearful eyes. "Tell me how i get to Hakodate." Hachiman said bluntly. Not as a question but with a demand. "Wh-what?" She managed to squeak out as she sniffled in confusion. "Hakodate woman. Tell me how to get to it. The imperials are still on this blasted rock and i have no time to spare." Hachiman stated as he glared at her in annoyance and irritation. 'Seriously? what were the locals thinking?" He thought. They should be holed up in their homes and shacks, making an effort not to be on the battlefield. Sniffling, she took a moments pause, wracking up her head of all the locations around her and on the continent in general. And Hakodate? she had never heard and or read about any place. The stranger in front of her looked rather intimating but she couldn't really lie either, being not only wrong but also she felt that the man in front of her could tell with ease whether or not she was lying. Trembling, she took a breath and tried her best through the tears and the recent events. "I, i don't know...i know not of this Hakodate you speak of!" She said in a low voice, her strength gone as her mind still raced with many thoughts and emotions. Hachiman reacted in a mix of outrage and shock, How could a local not know what Hakodate is? Could she have misheard him? no. She said Hakodate perfectly. Was she lying? she didn't look like she was as she trembled. So what was going on? What was happening? For once he did not know and he had a terrible feeling in his gut as he struggled to comprehend. "What?" He said in a more higher voice, one that oozed of anger and irritation as he glared at her. Corrin only broke down in fear in regards to this, the tears flowing down once again, like a dam breaking and the water quickly escaping. Hachiman quickly released his mistake as he looked at her uncomfortably. Pursing his lips, he quickly apologized as bent his knee to get level to her. He never was good at interacting at women. Spending a whole year at war didn't help him either. "...Crap...listen, i'm sorry alright? i am... in a huge hurry. So would you please tell me even if you don't know where it is, where you think it is?" Hachiman stammered awkwardly, as he looked away from her fearful gaze. His cigarette puffing smoke as it did the opposite of what he thought it did, which was calming him but in this instance he was very panicky. Especially if it came from him making a woman cry. Like a child, her tears subsided once he heard his apology. Hiccuping a little, she tried to recall anything remotely similar to the word Hakodate or something that seemed like it related to it. Thoughts popped into her mind as she remembered reading something about the barbarians in the north having similar words and sounds to Hakodate. Sniffling, she calmed herself down as she replied to the stranger in front of her. "I, i think its to the north of us..." She said, managing not to sniffle as she looked into his onyx black eyes. "North huh?" He said as he took a drag, standing up, he took a moment to contemplate in silence as looked at the stars. realizing quickly that he was about to leave, Corrin quickly called and reached out to him. Grabbing his his coat in the process. Turning his gaze to her, he quickly noticed her red desperate eyes, pleading and begging as she looked at him in fear and fright. Narrowing his eyes impatiently, he asked her;"What is it?" In irritation. "Please take me with you!" She said as she held onto him desperately, fearful and once more on the verge of breaking down, only caring for her safety at the moment. This desperate request surprised Hachiman as his eyed widened up. His mouth hung slightly agape as she had just caught him off guard, his cigarette falling in the process. This girl...looked so helpless. He thought as his heart wavered just a little. Quickly however, he steeled himself and looked at her with a determined resignation. "No." Hearing this, Corrin looked at him even more desperately, grasping his coat as she struggled to hold back her tears. Hachiman faltered at this, why was this girl so desperate to come with him? surely her family must be worried? "Your family must worry for you, go back to them." He said as he tried to get her out of his hair. Corrin stopped for a few moments, the memory of her cruel fathers order no re surging as she started to cry. Her father commanding her to stay in the fortress, the fact that she had nearly been deflowered and killed along with killing a man merely made her desire to escape from it all even more real. As such, to escape she spoke desperate lies, trying to bring up a facade, a whole new mask to wear as she gripped his coat tightly. "Please!, my family...my father, their...dead. I have no where else to go! please...just let me accompany you...please sir." She choked out silently. The thoughts of her father and her siblings beings crossed out as she killed them off in her mind. It was true, she considered herself lost with no where to go, she wanted an end to this terrible shell of a life that she had been living, desperate to escape, she would even kill of her own siblings in her mind if it meant that she wouldn't have to live like this anymore. In a way, she spoke the truth through her lies. Hachiman still remained steadfast to turn her away however as he gritted his teeth. "I will be fighting the enemy, the battlefield is no place for girl." He stated truthfully, glaring at her like a wolf, trying to scare her into leaving. "I do not mind!...please!...i just want to escape from this place...I was almost killed and i don't have any place to go to!...i'll, I'll do anything!" She said desperately, not running from his gaze as she stared at him with determination. "What?" Hachiman asked in shock. "Please! i will do anything! just please let me accompany you!" Hachiman remained silent as the girl in front of him sobbed. Her family was apparently dead and something must have happened for her to desperately plead to follow him like this. His thoughts conflicted with each other as he struggled to come to terms on whether he would bring her with him or not. He was going to fight the enemy, he had already resigned himself to fight to the death, so why? why was his heart screaming to take her with him? The core tenant of Bushido popped up in his mind. Compassion, But he had already broken that rule several times on the battlefield. And was it compassion to bring her to a battlefield? He was heading north to where she thought was Hakodate was, He was heading north to fight!...But then again she had also stated that she would do anything just to escape from his place. Saying that she did not mind. As Hachiman mulled over his choices, Corrin attempted one final desperate act. Shamelessly, she took his hand and held it to her bosom, making the man in front of her grope her breast. With tears and a fierce determination, she looked into his conflicted eyes. "Please! you may...you may also take my purity if you like, just please! ...please take me with you!" Hachiman gulped, the look on her face was painful to look at it. Quickly taking his hand off of her bosom, He sighed and came to a conclusion. His heart winning the argument his his mind was having. "Alright, fine. I'll take you with me. Just don't do anything like that again. If there's one thing i don't like, then it is a person who holds themselves no with self respect." He said as he looked away abashedly, his face a scarlet red as his mind had processed that he had just touched a lady's bosom. Corrin's face lit up at this, relief and happiness showing on her face clear as day. But soon however, she blushed as well, looking away in shame and embarrassment. A few moments passed before Hachiman coughed to bring attention to himself. Looking away from her in awkwardness, he started talking. "If you follow me, your going to do everything i say without question." Corrin eagerly nodded at this, her tears clearing up once again. "You will also be accompanying me until you find a place to settle down." Corrin still nodded, albeit a bit more cautiously at this. "I also value silence, so do not expect conversations save for when i ask you questions. Understood?" "Yes!" Corrin replied with energy as she smiled in relief. "Well...um.. lets go now." Hachiman stated cautiously. He never really did speak to women well. Turning around, Hachiman quickly walked, not knowing what else to do in this situation. With Corrin silently following him in the process, relieved that she could finally escape from her lot in life. There was no logic, there didn't need to be any logic, she felt as she followed him. She had a feeling and she saw a chance. And in pure desperation along with the many things that recently happened, she felt that this was the only choice she had left. And that's that. This is a one shot idea of mine. If i have ideas on how the story will go and if you guys like it then i'll continue it. Please leave a review in the original thread. I also consider myself new to the writing scene so please tell me if i fudged anything up. Since this was an Au in which Hachiman had fought in the boshin war, i tried to write him in a more believable way while keeping true to his nature. I also tried to write Corrin as a sheltered girl lonely and in sadness, desperate to escape while also a kind heart. Please feel free to leave a review, I am trying to get better as a writer in general. Cross posted on fanfiction.net
  14. The Souls of Anarchy: Spurning Staff 27 main chapters A strange main continent, with paralogues leaking to other worlds A myriad of skills: originating from Ylisse, Zenith, and the world of Fates Non-canon FE skills that includes personal skills for each playable character 35+ characters that will soon join the squad - a good amount with tragic backstories A dramatic story with comedic gag elements Some draconic and beast classes with corresponding elements Weapons from the entire FE series, plus a batch of outliers and unique items Battles takes cue from Sacred Stones, Radiant Dawn, and Awakening This fangame acts as a spiritual successor to the roleplay Fire Emblem: Realms of the Cosmic Mirror, currently on a indefinite hiatus, and borrows many of the same concepts and mechanics. It runs on riskrain’s Lex Talionis engine, which was written in Python. The fangame implies you have tackled strategy RPGs at a deep level before and may not be for the faint of heart. While the base game aims to be as difficult as the Jugdral duology, Casual Mode will still be kept just in case. If you’re familiar with my previous roleplay, I might be contacting former players for help on this project. Don’t expect a sequel, because this is pretty tough work. If it is, the sequel may use FEXNA as its base. Once I gather resources and more development help, I'll keep updated with pictures as soon as possible!
  15. As in, a Fire Emblem crossover with what other videogame franchise, since we already have Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Fire Emblem Warriors. I'd like a Fire Emblem x Octopath Traveler crossover (weird, I know ), because for some reason I think they could blend really well gameplay wise, since FE is not just tactical but has rpg elements, while OT has a good number of protagonists rather than the usual quantity showed in JRPGs; and story wise, because of the medieval fantasy setting they both have. Even some of the character classes are shared by the two, like cleric, dancer, knight, and thief. But mostly I'd like it because OT has such interesting mechanics it could add to FE. What about you ?
  16. The Outrealm Gates. They are an enigma to how other places work. They are gates between world unknown and a common scapegoat for otherworldly conflicts. Zenith used to be the gatekeeper of portals like these, but the numerous factions at war fought until stalemate. Another quaint and fledgling continent far away east in a different world has no former ties with the two sides of the century-long war. Its name is Levfia, founded by a maiden figure only known as Diana, whose roots can be traced to Archanea. Recently, its towns and villages have been bombarded with foreign forces like that of which the nation of Embla controlled. But strange entities such as elves and mithril have started to trickle in. A world where a human once disappeared lies in the middle of the conflict. A freak accident with a futuristic machine in a place beyond that of normal reach made it the center of a multiverse larger than the real universe it was only connected to. Recent reports of missing people hasn’t gone unnoticed in a world where carriages and swords have become obsolete. In the medieval world of Levfia, a happily married couple noticed a few humans in modern attire waking up in the middle of their town with nothing at their side except tools unsuitable for combat. Questioning their untimely appearance, they took them in to take care of them for the time being. A week passed and the visitors’ foster town was under siege by strange shadows. The modern-day humans, not having any experience of how Levfia works, are hastily trained by the two caretakers to prepare them to fend off the forces ahead. Thus a new story unfolds, breaking away what was a common conformity of worlds where dragons once roamed free. Welcome to the renewed edition of Fire Emblem: Realms of the Cosmic Mirror. A lot has changed since its first inception. Its premise of a conflict between multiple universes like Super Smash Bros. and Project X Zone is still the same, but a lot of the mechanics has changed. Main characters from the real world now take control of three other characters in their respective party, 2 from any Fire Emblem continent and countries, 1 from another world. Weapon Ranks, EXP, LV, promotions, classes, etc. have all been reintroduced. Master Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jCloT_TPvEtKNLEEiEglpYpMb1cQvJQ3opNJphVQLNg/edit?usp=sharing Roleplay Discord for Updates, Announcements and Chat: https://discord.gg/D5fmyen Character Forms: Lefvia, the Hub Continent: Game Mechanics: Most calculations are based on Awakening’s formulas. EXP mechanics come from Sacred Stones’s formulas. RN generation will be single-numbered for all instances except HIT which is 2RN. Weapon stats and character stats mostly mirrors Awakening and New Mystery of the Emblem’s iterations, there is no weapon weight or constitution. Reclassing is based on Fates’s version of reclassing, with the Second Seal used to change classses instead of the Heart Seal. Weapon triangle is a three-level version with rank-based advantage modifiers. Base triangle is the unified Fates version, while tomes branch off into the Trinity of Magic with its own Anima magic sublevel as seen in Radiant Dawn. Character inventories and character skills both cap at 5 slots. Permadeath is a near-Casual version, dead units won’t come back until the players are transported to a new world. Skill mechanics have traits unique to this roleplay: the skills are separated into three “metallic” ranks reachable by AExp, experience that increases by an amount every time a certain skill activates. Most skills in return have their own scrolls, but any unit who wants to learn one must have a corresponding skill rank that is less than or equal to the rank the skill is assigned to in the spreadsheets. Actions: Movement Attack - attack enemy with weapon that specifically targets it Staff - use ally-targeting staff in range Item - use a item in the inventory Inventory - reorder weapons in inventory Open - use keys to open doors and chests Trade - exchange weapons and items between two adjacent units, both units may reorder their inventories after transactions (skill) - applies to skills that activate via commands (Rally skills, Dance, Shove) Wait - ends the unit’s actions/turn General Etiquette: Inactivity won’t do, please post at least 3 times a month. Don’t make your character from the Terra form self-insert, it’s a general rule of thumb. GM actions and posts will and always be final. Make sure you conform with the setting and its rules that you currently have at hand before I come every day and post. All worlds visited should be close to their canon description, only there should be OCs come from the Earth where Kiran comes from. Please note I may not update every day. Occasionally this can be made up during the weekends. After the first 4 players are ready for the roleplay's Prologue, the roleplay will commence at 6PM 23 September 2017. Symbolic, isn't it?
  17. Prologue: Alternate Army 07:00, Levfia Levfia, a small continent, houses an Anna that one might not remember. Like her sisters, they are merchants looking for a way to substantially live. This Anna was reading scriptures on the worship of Naga and Mila, two of the most notable divine dragons in the world that they currently live in. Jake creaks open the employee door of Anna’s store to tell her dismal news. “It’s horrible. Damn near impossible to go out for a stroll,” Jake complained. “A horde of strange warriors are approaching from the north.” Anna put the scrolls down. “This is grave news,” she fretted. “I must tell the humans we’ve been housing for a week.” Jake was skeptical about Anna’s plan. “Are you sure these four are good for the job?” Anna stopped and thinked about it. She nodded. “If they’re from another world, then they must have some kind of potential!” She ran to the guest rooms upstairs to wake them up. Gabriella and Kyodaina were happily snoozing away in their beds. Chuks was lazing out on his bedroom floor and Simon lighted out during the middle of the night frantically trying to contact an unknown deity with his prayer books. Anna opened Gabriella’s door and yelled out her name. “Get up. We’ve got something bad going on near our town.” Gabriella is free to post. Somewhere else around the house, Jake opened the door to Chuks’ room. What he saw through the window in Chuks’ room was an axe hurled toward a window in a house across the road. This was an unsettling sight for Jake. He tried to get Chuks up, but he wouldn’t budge. So Jake decided to drag him on his legs to move him out of the bedroom. That’s when Chuks finally opened his eyes and realized something was quite different. Chuks is free to post.
  18. So a passing thought what if fire emblem characters could be summoned as Servants to fight in the holy grail war of the fate franchise. Like what classification would each character fit into? what would their noble phantasms be? what do you guys think.
  19. There are many potential crossovers that are yet to be explored by the actual creators. Out of the ones yet to be unrealised, what crossovers would you like to see? As long as it is something not yet made official/canon, anything is fair game. EDIT: I'll also allow members to talk about whatever crossover fanfics they are currently working on, or worked on. I'd like to see more crossovers of TMS#FE with other Atlus titles. TMS#FE: Dancing Sunny Day with Rise, Kanami, and Yukari (who is also a part-time actor) as guests would be hilariously awesome. Actually no, bring the entire Persona 3-5 crew dancing with the Fortuna Entertainment Crew and all the FE characters who previously starred in FE Heroes as the mirage/persona/performa dancers in a bigger and better LMB Festival, and I'd buy that game on launch night, no questions asked. On another note, FE x Pokemon would have been a good way to explore possibilities of using Pokemon for warfare. And possibilities to explore narratives of animal welfare vs war, the use of animals for war in addition to the FE's usual tales. And the final boss should be something may or may not be a mix between Ghetsis and Ashnard in terms of philosophy. A call for Pokemon to be liberated from slavery under humans, and a call for humans to accept the laws of the natural order.
  20. I've been throwing around this idea, it would make a great webcomic along the lines of Brawl in the Family and Awkward Zombie, but since I kinda suck at art, I'm just going to write it out! You are welcome to suggest ideas or leave general comments in the feedback thread. Without further ado, the cast! Men's Dorm Supervisor: Dunban Women's Dorm Supervisor: Nabooru Teachers: Professors Oak, Birch, Elm, Rowan, Juniper, Sycamore, Kukui Male Students: Link, Shulk, Boyd, Ike, Alm, Reyn, Pipit, Groose, Mario, Luigi Female Students: Zelda, Melia, Elincia, Celica, Karane, Malon, Lyn, Ashei, Peach, Daisy The Link and Zelda are generic ones, not specifically from any game. Men's Dorm Layouts: 1: Link and Shulk 2: Boyd and Reyn 3: Ike and Groose 4: Alm and Pipit 5: Mario and Luigi 6: Dunban Women's Dorm Layouts: 1: Elincia and Melia 2: Celica and Zelda 3: Karane and Malon 4: Peach and Daisy 5: Lyn and Ashei 6: Nabooru A note on the portals and the hub this is in (first mentioned in Groceries and Gerudos): The portals to the various worlds reject anyone who doesn't belong there, to avoid the worlds mixing when they're not supposed to. A jamming signal makes conception impossible in the hub. Males still produce sperm and females still ovulate and menstruate, but sperm cannot bond with egg as long as the female is in the hub. Couples from the same world will have to go home if they want a kid. The typical college frat party stuff will never result in unplanned pregnancies. Don't worry though, this is just a bit of world building, this won't go past a PG 13 rating.
  21. Project FE X SSB (Currently planned to be named Fire Emblem: The Subspace Emissary) is a crossover game between the gameplay of Fire Emblem and the characters of the Super Smash Bros. series. It is planned to be a little over 30 chapters long, with the possibility of ten additional postgame maps. Every character in the series is intended to be a playable character, except for Dr. Mario, Young Link (due to redundancy), Solid Snake, Pac-Man, Cloud, and Bayonetta (due to those companies' strict policies on fanmade content. I don't want to anger the entire industry). The story has a similar setting, premise, and plotline to The Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. However, the plot has been heavily tuned up to provide a more engaging and effective story. The game follows two groups on their quest to fight back against an army comprised of fake copies of people, who later join together for the ultimate showdown against the one behind it all. The game's soundtrack will comprise of GBA rearrangements of tracks ranging from Smash Bros. originals or songs from the OSTs of one of the many series it hosts. Right now, though, the development of this fangame is at a bit of a standstill. Currently, the game is planned to be developed in FEXNA - not because it's a 'make game' button or anything, but because it uses a language similar to RPG Maker, something I'm very familiar with, speeding up the process somewhat. As of now, FEXNA is not going to be released anytime soon. That leaves only the things not needing FEXNA - sprite art, music, and possibly map design. I don't exactly have much experience with graphic design - this is probably the best I can do, and that was just a reskin. And while I can judge music pretty well, I know next to nothing about actually creating it. I'm probably going to have to wait a bit longer before actually beginning any kind of development, but I still wanted to share what I had in mind.
  22. "The Outrealms are beckoning..." Welcome to Fire Emblem: Realms of the Cosmic Mirror's sign-ups and discussion page! Spreadsheet available for all players to refer to: SPREADSHEET LINK Here's the interest check topic for background info: https://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?/topic/73306-interest-check-fire-emblem-realms-of-the-cosmic-mirror/ Table of Contents: Intro Reading and Picking Characters How to Prepare for Battle Gameplay Mechanics Current Roster/Positions in separate posts (except for first battle). 1. Introduction This roleplay pits canon Fire Emblem characters against other characters derived from foreign mediums. Focusing on the various strategic battles that the Fire Emblem series has, the battles require teamwork and should safely create an environment similar to a mega crossover game like Smash Bros. and Project X Zone. Created with a hybrid in mind, it tries to insert elements from various Fire Emblem games and make them composite, in order to create a different experience. Dealing with a composite gameplay can be tough, so some debilitating ideas are removed for ease of management. If you start to have problems with the rules and character you’re given, you're better off asking questions than making direct statements I can’t find a good reply to. Please use proper etiquette when needed, and don’t be inactive for more than 3 weeks. This should act as a real Fire Emblem game but with several twists here and there. The more familiar the Fire Emblem experience are to players who sign-up the better off a game goes. 2. Reading and Picking Characters (Please note that you’re mostly writing established characters for the time being.) Most probably the hardest part to understand: which character suits my playstyle the best? Here’s what’s so different about this RP, characters are preset; they’re merely rentals. Once you choose to sign-up for a character, it will be yours to control for the battle. The player expects to write dialogue for every character they sign as throughout the whole RP. If a character name appears in more than one roster that each correspond to a separate battle, you are allowed to use that character again if you like. Using any character is fair game, but signing up for a more familiar character to write dialogue for is recommended. A Smash Bros. player is probably more likely to choose Marth than Ephraim for example. Players sign up for a designated character, detailed in this chapter. Once a battle is over, a new set of units will be up for the next battle. Sign up again if you choose to pick a new unit from that selection, otherwise waiting for a new one is completely optional. If your player character dies in battle, don’t worry. You can choose a new character in the next battle after the battle in which the character dies in is completed, whether it was a win or loss. A form template is detailed in the spoiler here. Example using Lachesis from FE4 in spoilers. List of commands units may share (bold are universal): 3. How to Prepare for Battle 4. Gameplay Mechanics Positions follow here. Battle #1 - Objective: Rout the enemy Note: All unit rosters are in spoilers.
  23. A concept I personally find fun to think about but I’ve almost never seen addressed online, which I will do now. If specific Pokemon were Fire Emblem classes, what could you see them as? I’ll begin with some of the starter Pokemon: Blastoise- Knight Meganium- Cleric Decidueye- Archer Samurott- Myrmidon Delphox- Mage Greninja- Thief Incineroar- Fighter

  25. I wrote up this roleplay earlier this month… in another site I won’t mention, with the reputation of Fire Emblem Fates… It got the cold shoulder after two previous attempts, so I’m trying out to see if this roleplay could work in a place like this. Third time’s the charm, right? But there’s a lot of differences with this roleplay in particular that might not coincide with roleplays that are more common here. Taking bold actions can be risky sometimes. Edit: Google Docs file to help with how this roleplay works. - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vhy_SjBaV2bi2AYKz7-gzgHoAxV909mVC4_p_etclwQ/edit?usp=sharing The Basics as to What’s Here and What’s Absent What's so different about this? 1. OCs and original settings are not integral to the story. This roleplay is more about a what-if scenario between foreign forces that plays out like a typical Fire Emblem skirmish. I’ve experienced writing and conceptualizing OCs before. It’s where a writer puts OCs that make the concept of "Sturgeon’s Law" stand out even more. The game is basically Massive Multiplayer Crossover meets strategy RPG, in this case, Fire Emblem. I currently have no intentions of integrating an original generation into a storyline where a crisis between fantasy media is the main idea. Don’t expect a new Jake or Anna from a non-canon continent/kingdom/nation/etc. here. 2. Without OCs, what will happen to sign-ups? How can one participate in a battle? Sign-ups are much shorter due to the limits a character has with pre-determined stats and inventories. They’re all similar to rentals, in short. Character availability varies between each battle. (from 5 up to low teens) The available field other than username and character chosen: are stat variations (will be now referred to as Boon and Bane in this and the sign-up topic.) Boons and Bane are a simple +Boon and -Bane format based on the corresponding stat. For example: This raises the character’s HP by x1.1 and lowers the character’s STR by x0.9. If you want a neutral variation, write “Neutral” for both fields. 3. How will dialogue be handled in this roleplay? Roleplay is based on a third-person limited point of view. Players are only allowed dialogue for their player unit while the GM controls NPC and enemy units. All actions done in the map must be bolded. 4. How will maps be handled and detailed? I’m yet using another spreadsheet to handle maps. I’m currently not a very good digital artist, so the terrain detail is limited to color coding, but sprites will luckily be present. Chess-based coordinates are in use. 5. What does the game master do during a battle other than dialogue for enemies and NPC? The game master (that’s me) will detail battle calculations, turns, phases, etc. If a battle’s objectives are completely fulfilled, an objective’s failure causes a player loss, or all the player units are killed in battle, I’ll detail results and notify players of upcoming battles (It might take from a day to a week to prepare.) 6. How do the canon Fire Emblem characters experience foreign worlds and their characters? If a Fire Emblem character such as Chrom has, in physical form (they used dialogue once), appeared in an officially-sanctioned crossover featuring the enemy or NPC units from that piece of work, they have knowledge of that work in question. Robin may know about Meta Knight, but he will only have a blind experience of something like Middle-Earth, where he’ll scratch his head at the concept of hobbits. Characters further gain knowledge about other worlds every time they go into battle. I don’t have much left to say at this moment so I’ll leave the story leading up to the first battle here (it’s Pokémon themed). If you have any further questions about the roleplay, I’ll do my best to answer them.
