  1. One of the more noticeable additions to the next Fire Emblem game is the fact that a group of generic soldiers now accompany a character. This should make battles seem larger than they were in the past, and the new formations option will undoubtedly add several new strategic options to the Fire Emblem gameplay we all know and love (for the most part). It also means that there will undoubtedly be a few characters that buck this new mechanic by ignoring it altogether. The giant robot in the trailer already proves this, but it can't be the only example. And this thread will be about sharing ideas about what they could be and how they could work. As for some of my own: Dragons It's very possible that manaketes will return, or at least, some form of a dragon will eventually join your side. In most works of fiction dragons tend to be quite large, and Fire Emblem isn't an exception, so a single dragon being able to stand up to an entire squadron won't be jarring. To make up for loosing formations, dragons could have different methods to attack instead, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, they could swing their tail as a powerful but slow and easy to dodge attack, or they could use their claws for a faster and more accurate attack, but at the risk of harm due to being closer to the action. Their dragon breath could tear up low res units, but be near useless against those with a high resistance stat, and so on and so forth. It's possible that dragonstones won't return, given that we don't know if this Fire Emblem game will have degradation, or they could appear and work similarly to how the did in the original Mystery of the Emblem, where dragons remained transform for several turns instead of a single battle at the cost of dragonstones having fewer uses. Shapeshifters We don't know whether or not shapeshifting units will return at this point, and it is very possible that they will work as normal squadrons, with the generics being other shapeshifters. It's also possible that one or two shapeshifters will either be strong/violent enough that they don't need soldiers behind them, and/or they can transform into a wider variety of animals/classes than normal. This could mean that instead of formations, they have transformations, and can turn into a different creature on a whim to best handle the situation. Whether they will be limited to animals, other classes (like Xane), or bizarre and otherworldy creatures (or all of the above) is up to debate. Assassins/Thieves It's hard to see characters like Jaffar or Gaius leading a group of soldiers, considering their skill set lies elsewhere. However, assassins and thieves could still have their use in this game, while still not being front-line units. For assassins, it's possible that they will have the ability to ignore formations, or at least, downplay their bonuses/advantages (if the generics bring any) and will have special abilities that target the enemy commander, such as sniping them from a distance, sneaking in during the chaos of a battle to kill the commander, impersonating a generic soldier and either taking temporary control of an enemy unit and/or getting a better shot at assassinating a commander without having to deal with the generics first. Despite these abilities, they still won't be one-man armies, and can't hold out in longer fights. As for thieves, the formations menu could replaced with actions such as pick-pocketing (gaining gold from enemy generics, and the more there are, the more money you'll get) stealing (obviously taking an item or weapon from an enemy) or possibly even capturing (we'll have to wait and see if this mechanic returns or not, as well as how it will function). This makes them a high-risk, high-reward kind of class because you will have to place them next to an enemy unit in order for them to activate their skills, but the benefits could very well be work it. That's only a few ideas. What are your thoughts on characters that won't command a squadron of their own for one reason or another?
  2. . July 30th, 0800 Hours, Galactic Year 0251 ??? Heion Riese, ANF Leviathan-Class Battleship The day of relief had passed uneventfully, with a walk and ceremony for the casualties of the colony attack ending the afternoon on a somber note. Most of the crew was either busy with their own recreations, or anxiously waiting for new orders from HQ. Radio silence was all they received that day. In fact, radio silence did not only refer to ANF's orders --no commercial signal was getting through to Colony 1, which forced itself to operate autonomously. If one were to open the TV, they'd find no channels available other than local OrbiTV's free channels, and even those seemed to operate with hindered coverage. Perhaps the rebel's plan involved cutting off the colony's communication with its neighbors and earth? "Mrrr..." In her bedroom, very clearly not a morning person --not after enough wine is on her system, at least--, Roxanna grumbled and slowly sat herself up on the edge of her bed. The reason she woke up was clear, forgetting to set her tablet's alarm for later. Ugh, of all thing to forget. Oh well, at least the headache wasn't mind-numbing, only a stinging feeling as if some nail was pressing on the side of her head... okay, it was still annoying. "And I had such a good day yesterday, too..." Lamenting her carelessness in not having enough Dihydrogen monoxide before sleeping, Roxanna stood up. Wrapping her arms around the long white dress she called a pajama to shake off some of the cold from her AC, Roxanna grumpily reached for her TV, lazily turning it on. Let's see the news--oh right, static. Damn, is it still down. Unfortunate, she'd like to know how the ANF was describing their mission for a while now. Oh well, surely another time... Disappointed, Roxanna turned back, disinterested at the loud buzzing... at least it stopped. Wait, it stopped? She didn't turn off the TV-- Looking back quickly, Roxanna noticed a symbol taking the full screen, a gray hydra with a sword held in the mouth of its middle held, designed much like as if drawn on Greek pottery. What the-- There wasn't much time to process, just a minute, in face, and then a new image entirely graced the screen. Oh. My. God. At this point, Roxanna was fully alert, eyes wide open, biting her lower lip. Shit, if they incite full fledged war-- Roxanna scrambled to her tablet, opening a voice channel synced to the Heion Riese's communication system. "Hello? Hello? This is your XO, Roxanna Martinson." Her voice was definitely unnerved, now resounding throughout the ship. "I am calling an immediate reunion. All who are awake, meet me in the bridge in 30 minutes." She didn't have the power to schedule a sudden meeting and hold people accountable for not showing up, not at a time like this. Still... she had to take measures to prepare for what was sure to become a hell of a day. The entire party is free to post! Feel free to choose where your character is, but remember it is pretty early in the day!
  3. There's an army of robots under the command of the smiley face emoji in The Emoji Movie that look almost exactly like Necrozma from Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, Is this a cameo or something else?
  4. The desert heat never subsided, but at least inside the main base hangar, she could catch a break from it. Fully dressed in captain attire, not a sleeve wrinkled out of place, not a hair hanging out of order. Today was the day! Or it was supposed to be the day... Scenario 1: Quiet Wings Take Flight July 27th, Galactic Year 0251Deep under the sun of the Nevada Desert stood a recently built military base, belonging to the Allied Nations Federation; code named Dry Lake. The climate was inhospitable for the longest time-- changes in environment and the increasing pressure of global warming --, but recent advancements in construction-- specifically in unmanned construction, made it possible to create a base within the sweltering hills without having to risk human injury during. After it was built, it was swiftly assigned , a small set of soldiers, and: Jessica Gefalscht, the current defacto-commander of this base. Not only the commander, but the Captain of the also recently built Allied Nations Federation Space Fleet: Heion Riese. Straight out of pilot training, and straight off the shipyard, the two are ready for space flight and the defense of the ANF! As long as she can keep it together! Jessica stood nervous in the hangar, below her new ship, the large vessel taking up the entire interior space. It's so big... And I've gotta keep it all in top shape, or I'll probably get sacked... Hoooo boooy... If this were a drill or another academy test, she'd be fine. Her nerves were great under that sort of stress. It was leading. New people were always a mystery to figure out; not difficult, but not the most pleasant. And when she made a mistake, she froze, and it took some barking to get her back into order. In reality, she was only there because she graduated top of her class, the best at tests and drills. Could she handle something this important? "No time like the present..." And the present was coming up much faster than she wished. The hangar's main door had already opened, a squad of fresh cadets and hopefuls being ushered towards her. Roxanna wasn't even there yet, as much as the older woman probably would have complicated her nerves further. At least she could count on her to bark her back to reality if she slipped up. There was no longer and time to wait, or any time to get out of sight. The recruits were at her doorstep, and she had to welcome them! With a deep breath and a puffing out of her chest, she put on her most official face and saluted. "Welcome, to Dry Lake base! I am the Commander-in-Chief of this establishment, and your new Captain! I hope you've all been properly introduced to the base, and if not, I will be taking any questions you may have at present. If not, you're all welcome to, uh... S-Suit up and get ready." She slurred her introduction a bit, she'd stuttered; her voice cracked a bit. But she didn't freeze! And she got out all of what she needed to say. The recruits had, in fact, been shown around the facilities first. There was a large, empty range out behind the main mech hangar, primarily used for fire drills and fields tests. There was the main control tower, to deal with any incoming flights. Pilot lodging, a small mess hall with an adjoined cafeteria. The base even had internet, all the way out in the desert! Though, the main attractions were the robot and ship hangars, the former hosting all the suits that base had on hand, totaling twenty, with a mix and match of different standard ANF types. The biggest-- literally --attraction sat behind Jessica, still holding her shaky salute. Nearly half a kilometer long, the Heion Riese may have been smaller than most ANFSF Leviathan class ships, but it was certainly not fitted with anything less than the stellar standard that any captain would expect. Finely polished and crafted dual beam cannon systems, a full array of anti-air guns, missiles stocked and loaded, awaiting fire. The sleek design that cut through the air as it flew, and cut through space as it sailed. The ANF had taken it upon itself to craft their ships to resemble the ships of the old millennium, with obvious modifications to the hull for fitting thrusters and gravity boosters. With everything having been shown to them, all that remained was for the recruits to introduce themselves, ask their questions, and hop into their suits. Las Vegas Command had already issued a training exercise for the group. //GM Note: Thorvald, Brant, Kim, Bruno, Tarquin, Astin, Mateus and Elaine may now post! //They have been informed of all the bases additions, and may ask whatever they wish, or remain silent after their introduction!
