  1. Hey, everyone! Recently came back after many years away and decided to see if I could (for once) learn how to properly make a hack. I'm working with a FE6 rom for this project. Got a couple questions that I hope will be simple to answer, so I'll keep it brief. 1. When moving tables to other parts of the rom for expansion, do the following areas still hold true as "free space"? (This is taken from the FEditor documentation.) If so, can I simply move and repoint tables here with no issues? What about the "auto patching system"? Is that referring to FEditor's autopatching? 2. How does FEditor WORK exactly, as far as free space goes? I've read the ultimate tutorial and scoured the FEditor documents as well as posts on this site, but I can't seem to find a straight answer. Might be there somewhere, but I sure can't find it. I've heard that it automatically seeks out free space when you insert custom animations and portraits over the normal limit that the game has? Do I need to move animation or portrait tables as well? I intend to import a number of animations that exceeds the current number of animations in the game. FEditor lets me do so, but I'm not sure if it's using free space to do it, or overwriting something else important instead. I really want to make sure I do this right and avoid mistakes in the future. 3. (P.S: I read somewhere that FEditor doesn't like FE6 and that editing with it is somewhat difficult? Is this true? If so, what issues should I expect?) Thanks a lot! EDIT: I should mention that I am using the newer FE6 translation patch as well. This one:
  2. So... I am going to repurpose this thread for general requests I have for stuff around the forums that I would love to see, but just don't have the time to fulfill myself. :\ Open Requests: 1) Banner for SPACE winter holiday event In Progress Requests: -none atm Fulfilled Requests: -BBSS Trophies (Smirks) -Banner for Mug Medley Game (Smirks) Original Post
  3. UPDATE: please read the latest posts of the thread to follow with our current discussion. We now have a poll on events that have been discussed, please vote for all you would like to see/participate in, and please share your event idea if you have a suggestion! :) Original outdated post... From a recent Skype conversation ...had this idea at school today. What are your thoughts, peoples? We would celebrate artists, critics, commenters and people who give back to the community in various ways by nominating and voting for categories like for example... "Best Sprite Art of the Year" "Best Artist of the Year" "Best new artist" "Most improved artist" "Best commenter" "Best Critic of the Year" "Most helpful commenter" "Community Friend: individual who has contributed the most to the Sprite Art Community this year" These are of course rough ideas... Any suggestions on either better ones, better titles, or just how you might like this process to go in general? Probably would have separate categories for Portrait, Battle Sprites, Animations, Maps... Any other potential ones? ...my reasons behind creating this discussion/proposing these awards, BTW, are not for any sort of self-congragulatory BS, or back-patting shenanigans (like for instance not sure if people should be allowed to nominate themselves for categories :\) but because... Well, I really like this community. :0 For all our arguments/differences of opinion we also have a ton of creativity, great art, strong desires to learn and improve, and people who are super helpful in various ways... And I think that is worthy of recognition and celebration. So that... Maybe some of the lesser known artists get encouraged/recognition of their awesome stuff, and some of the people who have been around for a while, even if they mainly comment get celebrated for their efforts and contribution to these forums as well. :) Anyways... I would love to hear your thoughts, guys! :D Is this a good idea, how would you like to see it set up? BTW also... When would work best timewise for this? ...would it work to have voting closer to Christmas or the New Year? Should it happen earlier/later? Please lemme know! ;) Edit: had some good feedback in a recent chat. Edit: so some new ideas and poll for them, loving the feedback and discussion... Keep it coming. :D
  4. Well I've gotten no replies to any of my questions and I know I'm probably behind on rom hacking as most people seemed to be doing so in 2010-11. I am trying to add FE-7 and 8 sprites/portraits, chapters, music in one. I've found so far the only way to add without replacing is adding in HXD so I wondered where free space is in sacred stones.gba. Starting at offset 00E47180 FF FF FF FF FF...... FF FF FF............ and above that 00 00 00..... 00 00 00........ appear in many places. Are all of those chunks free space to add characters and will this add to my nightmare character modules? Also, do you know any other offsets I am free to edit without ruining my rom? Blazer if you see this how did you put FE7 and FE8 characters in the same game as seen on youtube and is that rom available to download? Thanks, sorry I'm so nooby at this stuff.
  5. Hello all I'm still pretty new to this and I have some questions. I've checked all the map creation and insertion tutorials, but none of them cover replacing or deleting maps, only adding new maps. I have 47 new maps planned for a FE7 hack, and I'm not sure they will all fit on the rom. (Like I said I'm still pretty new to this.) So Question 1 : Do I need to make free space, or will 47 new maps fit. (I can make every map the same size as the original maps, with less map changes even. If possible I would like to make bigger maps though.) Question 2: If I need to make free space, how do I go about replacing each map or deleting the old ones. Current Last Line of the clean rom is at 01000000, pretty sure that tells me how much free space is left, but I still wouldn't understand how many maps worth that is. Thanks in advance for any help
