  1. Bit of a different video from what I've made so far, but i thought it'd be cool to pit all of the gba classes against each other in an arena tournament and see who came out on top! It came about as prep for another series I'm going to be doing but ended up being pretty cool as its own project 🙂
  2. Ever wanted to play chess with people on Serenes Forest? Well, now you can! Here are the rules: Games of chess will be played according to the FIDÉ rules. Two players will be playing the game at a given time. When a player makes a move, they must also post the position using this client so that their opponent does not have to play through the entire game to get to the position. Players have fourteen days to reply to a previous move. If a player loses, they must wait for one game before playing again. If a player wins, they can either play the next challenger or opt out of the next game. The first (demo) game will be between @TheSilentChloey (White) and @Sigismund of Luxemburg (Black). Please message me or write on this thread if you would like to play. Players currently considering/being considered for participation: @Rex Glacies, @Clarine, @Byakuren Hijiri, @blah the Prussian
  3. Pokkén Tournament is a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco, the company responsible for Tekken. Pokkén is a hybrid of both Pokémon and Tekken, pitting two Pokémon against each other in a ring and having them duke it out until one of their HP reaches zero. The gameplay consists of two phrases: one where the two Pokémon can move around freely in the battlefield, and another where movement is more locked, akin to a more traditional fighting game. Despite the game being a fighting game, the playable Pokémon are, for the most part, not Fighting-type, and some of them aren't even bipedal. The playable Pokémon are, so far: A mixture of fan-favourites and oddballs! Note: With exceptions, I've listed the Pokémon in accordance to the order they were unveiled. The exceptions are to make the listing look more neat There are also a bunch of Support Pokémon. I won't list them, but they can found here Controller options are: Wii U Game Pad, Wii U Pro Controller, and the controller made for Pokkén Tournament: The Hori Pokkén Tournament Pro Pad. Images for this controller are below, in spoilers. You can pre-order it here amiibo is planned for this game, however right now we've only seen one amiibo card: for Shadow Mewtwo This will allow Shadow Mewtwo to be playable immediately rather than having to unlock him. All other amiibo can be used to gain money and clothing for your trainer Finally, the game supports both online and local play--and this includes linking up two Wii Us via LAN cable. Competitive players rejoice!
  4. Hi everyone, Not sure how many people are aware, but Ranai and 9B are currently a donation goal for BEAST 7, the largest smash tournament in Europe. This is likely the only European tournament that either of these two players has a chance of attending the entire year. Over the past two weeks, I have spread information about this compendium existing to as many regional Smash 4 communities as I could. However, as of now they are only 23% funded out of 2,000 Euros and there are only 5 days and 6 hours left in the compendium. Ranai and 9B don't really have a chance now, in my opinion, without a donation stream. The Monday or Tuesday right after Genesis 4 would be the perfect time for one to occur. That's why retweeting my tweet here can really help a lot. If this information reaches a top player willing to do a donation stream for them, it will go a long way and they will likely get funded. https://twitter.com/Cranium_Five/status/822241714983305216 (Link to compendium: https://smash.gg/tournament/beast-7-1/shop/reward-shop-10)
  5. Welcome to the first Crew styled face off in the Serenes Smash Series. Now please bare with me, with the rules and if you have any questions on sign up, please ask. Ruleset - 4 Teams of 5, so we need 20 sign ups. After the sign up process there will be a vote on who the 4 team captains will be, and they will in return draft their teams, after this and after they name their team, we will put this in Round Robin format. - Drafting will be Snake format, but we'll get to that when we get to it. - 3 Stocks per fighter on a team, any stocks you lose in a set with an opponent team are lost permanently in that set and thus you must keep track, so you can SD to match what your actual stock count is in your next match if you happen to win. Say I won my match vs another teams player but I only had 1 stock left, I'd have to SD till I had 1 stock vs their next player. The player waiting for the other to SD must respect this and stay where they start, and do no actions, as to make it a proper "neutral" start like any other match, the SDing player will then take a starting position and the match will proceed. - When two teams face off, they must decide who goes first, sending the message to me either on Discord, SF PM's or Skype, which then I'll announce the two players facing off, then stage striking will begin, via G&W hammer, which in you both select Game & Watch, using his "Judge" ability, whomever gets the highest number, can stage strike first, then the other player strikes 2 stages, the first player will then strike one more, which basically means selection is theirs. After they fight, the losers team must then select who is to go into battle next, along with their counterpick after the winner bans a stage. - - repeat this process until one team has no players remaining; the team left standing is the winner and is awarded as many points as they have remaining stocks The Stages are as follows for this. Final Destination + Omegas Battlefield Dreamland 64 Smashville Town & City - You must stick with one character in a set against another team, you can be a different character versus another team, but you must stick with the one you select against a particular team in that set. - the team with the most points after the round robin is over is the winner; in the case of a tie, a crew battle between the two top teams will decide the winner - Replays will be recorded and sent to me, my NNID is Jedisupersonic if you don't already have it Sign Ups and NNID 1. 6. Welcome to the King of Dankness! in this gimmick tourney, we have the honor, nay the privilege to use only Ganondorf in an epic 16 Dorf battle to the death. If people really want a 3DS version of this, feel free to ask, and show you have a bit of support, because I felt this kind of tourney would only appeal to some, the next main tournament will be Swiss styled, as suggested by Knife. Which will again be a dual system tourney set, 3DS and Wii U. The start of this tournament is likely to be the middle or towards the end of the month. Although if we get a full bunch really fast it could be sooner. The Bracket: http://sforestsmash.challonge.com/GanondorfLovesTennis The Schedule Round 1 will be the 9th through the 13th Round 2/Round 1 Losers will be the 14th through the 18th Winners Semis/Round 2 Losers will be the 19th through the 21st Winners Finals/Round 3 Losers will be the 22nd through the 24th Round 4 Losers - 25th - 27th Losers semis 28th - 30th Grand Finals - 31st through the 1st Ruleset 3 Stock 8 Minutes Best 2 of 3, except in Finals, best 3 out of 5 Double Elimination No Customs Starter Stages ● Battlefield ● Final Destination ● Smashville ● Dreamland 64 ● Town & City Counterpick Stages ● Duck Hunt ● Lylat Cruise ● Halberd ● Omega Stages* * Treated as Final Destination in banning phase. If Final Destination is banned, Omega Stages are banned and vice versa.** - The main law of this tournament is that, you can only use Ganondorf, You must use your dank and sick style against the darkness itself, who will come out victorious!? The way stage choice works is thus, either both players agree to a stage to start on, or do a method to decide who starts striking stages, my personal suggestion is Game & Watch Hammer, which is when both players pick Game & Watch and use his Side B move and whomever gets a higher number gets the first stage strike. This is also a good way to lag test. The person who strikes first, strikes a stage from the Starter list, then the 2nd person strikes a stage and this continues until only one starter stage left which is the one you both play on Whomever wins a match, can strike 2 stages and the person who lost may select out of the remaining legal stages. There is also something called Dave's Stupid rule, where you cannot counter-pick to a stage you've won on in the set This will keep the strict timelines seen in Joined by Fate (JBF) There is also the Gentleman's agreement, in which both players can agree to play on a nonlegal stage, this also can override Dave's Stupid Rule - Send replays to Lord Raven (NNID: muheds) for him to upload please. ShadowofChaos would also like your replays for highlight reel material - Please give me your NNID when you sign up, even if you did previously, just for consistency sake, Sign Ups and NNID 1. 7. Since around the second half of Jedi's Challenge Cup Tournament(congrats to Horace btw), I'd been throwing around the idea of hosting a VGC tournament sometime, but I figure why not do an interest check right now? Pokemon Showdown will be used for this tourney. A Showdown account is the easiest account you'll ever make if you haven't already. So what's VGC? The Video Game Championship format is a fast-paced battle format used for the VGC World Championship Series. Some of you may remember or have heard about when this happened in the 2014 World Championship. The VGC 2016 rules are: If you're like me and are most used single battles and are a bit weary of trying doubles, I highly recommend giving this a shot, it doesn't take long to adjust and it's a blast. If this format is intimidating at all, I recommend reading this: http://nuggetbridge.com/blogs/entry/1005-kasomans-vgc-16-teambuilding-guide-ver-10/ and/or practicing with one of these for starters, experimenting with your team as you get the hang of things. This would be a double elimination tourney, best of 3 and best of 5 for finals. I'm looking for a minimum of 16 participants, more can be added before the tournament starts if more people want to join. I don't have any deadline for this, so it would start shortly after getting enough participants. 1. DavidSW 2. Riptor 3. Honey Bunny 4. TrueEm 5. Emeraldfox 6. commie scum 7. DodgeDusk 8. blah the Prussian 9. Lord Gaius 10. Lord Graham 11. Jedi 12. Quintessence 13. 14. 15. 16.
  8. Now seeing as the last gimmick tourney I made an error and didn't give it time limits, it never got anything acomplished, i'm changing that by enforcing strict timelines on those too. But anyways, this poll will be for the commonly requested gimmicky tourneys I've gotten in the past, to see what people would want. Be it from the skype group, the discord group or PM request. Doubles is a likely next regular Wii U event, 3DS will still be getting tourneys as well, but this is just a general "what do you guys want out of the requests I've gotten"
  9. Welcome to Nerf Me to the Moon! Which is the next segment in our smash tourneys, This will mostly be currently an interest check, as my capture card is acting funky so I won't be able to record matches. However I would like to continue these as it helps our players maintain their growths. The name was suggested by Refa, to make a fun little poke at the 1.1.6 patch, there will also be a 3DS edition as well this time around The time this will start is not clear to even me at the moment, I just need to make sure I can get 16 people for each, we will then decide a schedule based on that timeframe Bracket: http://sforestsmash.challonge.com/NMttMU Ruleset 3 Stock 8 Minutes Best 2 of 3, except in Finals, best 3 out of 5 Double Elimination No Customs Starter Stages ● Battlefield ● Final Destination ● Smashville ● Dreamland 64 ● Town & City Counterpick Stages ● Duck Hunt ● Lylat Cruise ● Halberd ● Omega Stages* * Treated as Final Destination in banning phase. 10. Welcome to JBF, "Joined By Fate", the next smash tournament series ran by yours truly, while RoSF (Revival of Serenes Forest Smash) ends with our final 4, I've been meaning to get this one off the ground for some time. We are looking to start this series on Friday the 18th, with stricter timeframes to do matches, 3/4 days per round, however when Easter comes along that set of days will be more lax and we will get there when we get there. If we max out sign ups before then, we might be able to get some matches done with, if its convenient. The Bracket is here -> http://sforestsmash.challonge.com/JbF2016 This will be on Wii U, I will probably run a side 3DS tourney sometime in the near future however, but I cannot record matches as I lack a 3DS capture card at this time. 12. ^ If I were to create a ruleset for an online Fire Emblem Fates Tournament, would anyone join?
  13. I don't have very much information about how WiFi Battle works. But do you guys think that after the game is released in Europe, WiFi Battle Tournaments could be possible? I was thinking that it would just be a fun thing to do and I also have no idea how stupid this idea most likely sounds. Leave your thoughts on if you guys think if is a fun/good/possible idea.
  14. EVO 2015 YO GUYS. Some of you may remember the biggest Smash tournament ever, Apex 2015, and the thread I made for it. Well, it has officially been replaced, as EVO 2015 has something stupid like ~1800 entrants for each of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Melee. In this thread I will be covering like, three things: A) Some background. B) Stream schedules. C) Storylines going into the tournament. [spoiler=Background Info]EVO is a longrunning fighting game tournament (like, 15 years old at this point or something), and this year has nine (9) games in its lineup:Guilty Gear Xrd Killer Instinct Mortal Kombat X Persona 4 Arena the Ultimax Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Super Smash Bros. Melee Tekken 7 Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Ultra Street Fighter IV This year marks the first time that Smash will have two different games at EVO; Melee is returning for its third consecutive year, and Smash 4 is making its first appearance (obviously). This is also the second year that this tournament has the official support of Nintendo. Both games have pools and quarterfinals on Friday. Smash 4 has semifinals and Grand Finals on Saturday, Melee has semifinals on Saturday and Grand Finals on Sunday, with the other four top billed games. EDIT: SSB4 Crew Battle happening Thursday, 9 p.m. PST. Stream Link. Melee Salty Suite happening Saturday, 9 p.m. PST - Bizzarro Flame vs. Kage at 10. Stream Link (probably?). [spoiler=Stream Schedule, sorted by game + links to streams] http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo1 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo2 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo3 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo4 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo5 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo6 http://www.twitch.tv/srkevo7 http://www.twitch.tv/capcomfighters [spoiler=SSB4 Storylines]At Apex 2015, Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios (, ) established himself as the undisputed best at Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, winning the tournament with his Diddy Kong, and only dropping a single game across the entire 1000+ player bracket. Since then, he has won every tournament he's entered, and has only dropped one set, to a Luigi player, after the Diddy nerfs. These days, he's largely switched to Sheik, and we've yet to see his Sheik lose a set. His dominance is such that at CEO (and I believe EVO as well) there's a $500 bounty to eliminate him from the tournament. Dabuz (, ) took second place at Apex; among other accomplishments, he eliminated Mew2King's Diddy with his Olimar, cementing in the minds of many that Olimar was a contender to be taken seriously, but nevertheless ZeRo beat his Olimar fairly effortlessly. Since then he's been considered #2 at points, but recently has been overshadowed by his regional rival, Nairo, and lost out at CEO to ESAM before once again being eliminated by Nairo. From the same region as Dabuz, Nairo (, , ), lost out at Apex, but since then has dedicated serious time and effort to improving, especially his Zero Suit Samus. His Robin and Pit / Dark Pit, all seldom seen in tourneys, are also quite fearsome, despite their relatively low positions on tier lists. Recently, he's been convincingly beating almost everyone but ZeRo, including taking second place at CEO a couple weeks ago, and in my mind he's likely the "best of the rest." ESAM (, ) has been largely absent from most tournaments, but his Pikachu is a force to be reckoned with, especially in a customs environment. While he lost out at CEO to ZeRo and then Larry Lurr, he was one of the few people to take a game off of ZeRo. With customs on, he's likely to do better, owing to his demonstrated ability to bait out aerials/airdodges he can punish hard with Heavy Skull Bash. He also has a pocket Samus that was able to take a game from Larry Lurr's Fox, before being counterpicked and eliminated by Luigi. idk I'm getting kinda tired of writing these, especially when I know there are other, better write-ups I can link you to. Other players to watch out for: - Larry Lurr (, ) is largely ignored, but his Fox is imo incredible and probably the best there is...and he has a solid Luigi as well. - Mr. R () is a widely considered to be one of the best Sheiks in the world, but we don't get to see much of him, as he lives in the Netherlands. He recently got taken out early by MVD and Larry Lurr at CEO, so it seems like he might not be as much of a threat as people think of him as. - If FOW () is gonna be at EVO, his Ness is quite strong, although he was taken out quite solidly by ZeRo at DVDA #5 Grand Finals. - Unfortunately, Mew2King is missing EVO this year, due to health struggles and hand pains. - AND OF COURSE, OUR VERY OWN PKL () will be at EVO this year... I think. If other people have ideas for smashers who should be on this list, gimme a blurb and I'll put them up. [spoiler=Melee Storylines]EDIT: TeamLiquid has a better write-up; go read it. The two-time reigning champion of Melee at EVO, Cloud 9 | Mang0 (, ), bombed yet another Apex this year. However, historically this has been followed by him taking things more seriously and kicking ass at EVO in the following summer. His other accomplishments are so numerous I don't feel inclined to list them all. This year, however, he's been having major troubles since Armada broke out his incredible Fox, which has forced Mang0 vs. Armada sets into counterpick wars, as Mang0 hates both the Fox ditto and Falco/Peach matchup. Recently, it seems as though Mang0 decided to suck it up and learn the Fox ditto, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to master it enough before EVO. Mang0 has also had some major difficulties against the up-and-coming challenger Leffen. Armada (, ), a Swedish player known for his incredible Peach, retired several years back after a period of dominance. Since his return to the scene, he's probably been winning the most, however, he's yet to win a major tournament. He recently picked up Fox, after deciding that the overall skill level had improved to a point where solo-maining Peach simply was no longer viable, and this kicked off an incredibly strong showing this year, including finishing second at Apex, losing to PPMD after eliminating both Mang0 and Leffen. Hungrybox (), the best Jigglypuff in the world, recently announced his impending retirement, as he is starting at a new job shortly. He'll be looking to take one last tournament before he bows out, but given his trouble against other top players such as Mang0, Armada, and Leffen, it's doubtful that he'll be able to win this last super-major. Mew2King (, ), the oldest of the five "Melee Gods," will be missing EVO 2015 due to hand problems, so that leaves only PPMD (, ). The most reclusive of the gods, PPMD seldom attends tournaments due to his own struggles with depression and other things, but nevertheless has managed to win Apex two years running, despite attending extremely few tournaments. He's kind of a wildcard at this EVO, but it would be foolish to count him out after he clutched out his second Apex in a row earlier this year. Lastly, the up-and-coming challenger Leffen () has been dominating the tournaments he's attended recently this summer, convincingly beating out the likes of Armada and Mang0 without dropping a set at CEO, FC Return, and What the Fox?, and so is going into EVO as the leading favorite to take the tournament. Another Swede, Leffen only won his first major tournament in December? of 2014, but went on to take 3rd place at Apex, losing to PPMD in Winner's Finals and being eliminated by Armada immediately afterwards, however he solidly beat Mew2King and Mango, and did put up great fights vs Armada and PPMD. In the tournaments after Apex, however, he had some major difficulties as Armada's Fox seemed to be unstoppable, and it looked as though he might have been doomed to fade back into Armada's shadow again. Clearly, that is not the case; Leffen's Fox is stronger than ever, and he looks set to win his first super-national tournament. Other players to watch out for: - aMSa () did extraordinarily well at Apex, as his Yoshi performed at levels we had not known were possible, making top 8 before narrowly losing to Mang0 in game 5 of their set. While he only recently won his first tournament in Japan, he's historically performed quite well at US tourneys. - The NorCal Three: PewPewU (), Shroomed (), and SFAT (), are all top-15? players matched very closely, and hold a special spot in my heart due to being from the best region on Earth, objectively speaking. PewPewU and Shroomed especially did quite well at Apex 2015, with Shroomed beating out M2K in Sheik dittos to make it top top-8. Again, if anyone has suggestions/corrections, lemme know and I'll add them. Results will be added to either this post or the next post as they happen. [spoiler=Results][spoiler=Melee]1. 15. YO GUYS remember how the winners of APEX 2015 were being invited to Japan for some Official Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tourney? apparently that's tomorrow Presenting the CHOKAIGI 2015 tournament http://www.smashbros.com/jp/events/chokaigi/20150425.html dunno where it'll be streamed (maybe that site? maybe VGBC?), but singles start at 1 p.m. on Saturday (assuming Tokyo time) -> 9 p.m. on Friday (Pacific Time) doubles are the same time the next day EDIT: it is VGBootCamp - stream is here OUR REPS ARE: - ZeRo and mew2king - FOW and MJG --- Except FOW can't make it, so they're sending cyve instead reddit thread here basically it looks like singles are invitational (like E3) with a slightly less shitty ruleset than E3 doubles is a 4-team thing, 2 from Japan, 2 from not-Japan - the non-Japanese teams are the first and second place finishers of Apex 2015 SSB4 doubles
  16. The Serenes Forest Super Smash Bros. Tournament Thread Maintained by: Starbound (Doofina) and Sara (Elieson) Approved by: Red Fox of Fire In an effort to combat a cluttered forum, this tournament thread has been created. Its purpose is to act as a location where Super Smash Bros. tournaments can be organized. Anyone is welcome to host a tournament here, but we ask that you enter it through a queue line to avoid creating a mess. We’re a very laid back community and the rules here reflect that, but there are things you must be aware of to ensure that things run smoothly here. Guidelines for Hosting a Tournament All tournaments are to be ran through this thread. In the event that your tournament has 32 entrants or greater, you will be allowed to make your own thread. This is from a request from Red Fox of Fire to have all tournaments put in this thread unless they are sufficiently large. Effective October 5 2014, a signup page using www.challonge.com is required. When you post the signups for your tournament, you must include the link to the signup page so people can sign up. Tournaments are to enter a queue by PMing your request to host a tournament to myself. If it isn't on the queue, you can't host it. No exceptions will be made. The queue exists so that everyone can host a tournament without feeling like they are competing with others for a person’s attention. As a rule of thumb, tournament signups for the soonest tournament first. When the soonest fills up, the next soonest can start. If you believe that your tournament will require additional signup time, please see me. If your tournament is the soonest, you may post signups without approval. All other circumstances will require approval before posting. Be a nice host. Don’t rig the bracket. Disqualify players fairly. However, if the need arises where you need to disqualify someone to speed up your tournament, you should disqualify them. Guidelines for Participating in Tournaments This is obvious, but please try to be available during the tournament before signing up. As a rule of thumb, try to have a few hours a day when you can play. Actively seek out your opponent to arrange a time to play. If you feel like your opponent is too tough to connect with, contact the tournament host. Please act like a decent human being. Don’t purposefully disconnect. Report results accurately. Don’t seek out loopholes to try to win. Make sure people know your friend code. Ideally you should post it on the discussion page for the Challonge tournament. To host a tournament, all you have to do is submit the dates when you want to run your tournament and the type of tournament it is. I will accept all tournaments, and I will put it on the calendar. You will also need to specify the game (Wii U or 3DS). When selecting a date, don’t just pick one day. Try to anticipate how long you see your tournament taking place and allot yourself that many days. This is to ensure that we won’t have two tournaments going at the same time. If you feel as if you need an extension because something came up, contact me and I will try to work something out. To sign up for a tournament, simply click the www.challonge.com url provided by the host and click the signup button. Then go to the discussion tab on the left and post your friend code. Here is a default tournament ruleset for each game that you can use if you don't want to come up with your own. [spoiler=3DS Ruleset] 3 stock, 8 minutes, Best of 3 Items off Double elimination Participants: 16 Custom movesets allowed. Custom equipment is not. You may change your character in between matches. 17. Wifi tournament rules: Players that have to play each other in a round, have 1 week (subject to change) to have their matches. They must PM their opponent and set a date/time in that week time limit in which they both can play their matches. Follow the rules below for matches: Double Elimination 4 stock, 8 minutes. Sets are best of 5. Finals are best of 7. Items set to “off” and “none.” Quitting out of a match before it is over will result in a loss for the quitter. If time runs out, the person with the most stock left (or least % if they are equal) wins. If the % is equal as well, play a 1 stock 3 minute match, same characters and stage. If the match goes to sudden death due to a suicide move (Ganon’s side-B, Kirby/DDD’s swallow, holding someone in a grab on a platform as it moves out of the boundaries, etc.), the one who initiated the move wins. Buffer set to off. In the event that the game crashes or the TV/Wii loses power in the middle of a match, that match will be restarted from the beginning with the same characters and stage. If a player uses a known glitch to intentionally crash the game or otherwise make it unfinishable, that player may be forced to forfeit the match or be DQed at the TO’s discretion. No excessive stalling (this includes abusing Jiggs’ Rising Pound and Mario’s Up-B Walljump) Both players may agree to any rule or stage outside the tournament ruleset. Stagelist: For the 1st match, stage strike the starter list in 1-2-2-1-1-2 fashion. After each match, the winner of the previous match bans 3 stages (Players may counterpick a stage that they previously banned in the set, but may not counterpick a stage on which they won). The player who lost the previous match chooses a stage, then the player who won chooses their character, then the player who lost chooses their character. (this must be carried out in the Private Message here on SF) Starters: Battlefield Final Destination Smashville Pokemon Stadium 2 Dreamland (64) Fountain of Dreams Yoshi’s Story (Melee) (singles only) SSE: Jungle (doubles only) Counterpicks: Battlefield Final Destination Smashville Pokemon Stadium 2 Dreamland (64) Fountain of Dreams Yoshi’s Story (Melee) (singles only) SSE: Jungle (doubles only) Yoshi’s Island (Brawl) Lylat Cruise Wario Ware Green Hill Zone Skyloft Skyworld Entrants: PKL Doofina Gcubedude Esaka Golgar MJThom2009 Comet Zukonima Bracket: http://challonge.com/tournaments/bracket_generator?ref=0VZkUoaCuj
