  1. Hi Milanor here, I'm new to the rom hacking community and I'm trying to figure out how to create a completely new ups patch file from a clean rom and an hex editor. My first mini project would be to create an easy mode of fe6, from the original vanilla version of the game. I have the original fresh copy of FE6, and I plan to use the nightmare editor to modify all the character's bases and growths (essentially buff them), and then creating a patch on that. The program that I'm using is NUPS which should create ups files, however, when I go to create a patch, it asks for the original file, edited file, and then the New UPS file. I'm confused about what it means since I've already have a fresh copy. Does this mean that I would first have two fresh copies of FE6 (respectively A and B where B is the edited file), then edit the B file with nightmare, then after making the changes to B, create a patch from both files A and B? Then the next issue I have is that since the game is only released in Japan and no English version of the game exists (except for fan translation patches), I have to find a way to get the translate the text and menu items. I'm thinking of either two choices: A) Use an old translation patch that already exists from 2006 or whenever (I will make sure to have permission from them as well as credit them), then apply it to my newly created patch? In other words, I don't know if I can tack on a existing patch to another existing patch together? Or what about applying two different patches to the same rom? (One is a translation patch and the other one is the modified base/growth rates patch.) B) Rewrite the entire game script (which includes the menu items, item descriptions, character texts, and all of that) which is A LOT of work for just a mini project. Let me know how I should go about doing these things and I hope this isn't too much for someone who is still a newbie in the world of rom hacking. It unintentionally re-balances most of the units in FE6... "FIRE EMBLEM: THE BINDING BLADE" CANONIZATION PROJECT now in public beta ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Introduction This is a project I've been working on for the past few days; adding FE4-like generation mechanics to FE6. Now, because I don't feel like frankensteining two GBA roms together, a few days ago I asked /r/FireEmblem to give me their favorite FE7 pairings (that lead to children in FE6). After calculating growths and base stats using the awakening formulae, I inserted those changed stats into the game via Nightmare. In addition to this, I gave all returning units from FE7 their FE7 growths, so now Bartre is more usable and Karel is a shining turd (sorry karel fans). I also took a leif from the FE4 inheritance book, and gave all children characters an item or weapon from their parents' inventory (Geese also gets a Killer Axe from Geitz). With these introduction thoughts out of the way, here are the pairings that /r/FireEmblem gave me; ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pairings Eliwood x Ninian Hector x Farina Rath x Lyn (Lyn is only possible mother for Sue) Nino x Erk (Jaffar Soon™) Rebecca x Lowen Hawkeye x ???   3. I started this hack around the start of december, since I don't have much time on PC, the progress is kinda slow. About my last hack, the Dark Emblem, I accidentally courrupted the files and since the hack was kinda lmae and messed, I decided to start a new one.(No random-generated maps this time, I swear) Story: In the Melgen continent, there are two very powerfull countries, they're Arcadia and Petos, Arcadia suddenlly started to invade other countries, even though king Arcadio and King Petos are on good terms with each other, so wat's the reason that made king Arcadio suddenlly attack it's neighbors? Follow the story of Izarck, as he makes his path from a simple squire to a famous Hero. Features: No bandit chapters! New items. New icons for new items. Some new classes. 7 chapters as of now(counting the prologue and chapter 4x) Some new music. New mugs. New events. New maps. Deep plot(Not much at the start I admit, but what FE game starts with a good reason to fight?) New custom battle animations.   4. Hey, I don't know if this has been asked before, but whenever I try to use Nightmare to make changes to a UPS patched file, the changes don't apply in game. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just how it works?
  5. I was wondering how I can use the character banner and character forcer patches on a ROM that I've been working on for quite some time? Apart from already testing it out and finding out that it doesn't work on non fresh ROMs. How do I get those two "effects" onto my hack? Do I really need to start over in order to the effects from the two patches?
