  1. Hi, I wanted to try a run with Witch Rinkah, no skillbuying for her, reclass as soon as My Castle is accessible, and Malig Knight/Wyvern lord Felicia (wen for Malig knight for magic growth but might end in wyvern lord with magic weapons). Well, doing that on hard in BR, and so far it's very easy, Rinkah has approximately the same defence as average Silas, enough speed to double every ennemy except swordies/thieves/ninjas, average mag (although with witch base mag she has about the same magic as Orochi, while having more HP, def and way more speed). So we have a hard hitting magic unit with cavalier level defensive abilities, free tonic/potions seeking to save money, and she kills everything except anti mage units in 1 round. Felicia has average strength and def with above average magic and resist compared with similar units, early access to str+2, lv 10 wyvern skill to switch places, savage blow, soon trample, giving her 7 physical damage vs non mounted ennemies and 5 magic damage. She can also get rally def whenever I switch her to wyvern lord and then sword breaker for easy axe berserk. I also picked up Setsuna, don't know which class she's gonna go into, maybe ninja after lv 10 archer for quick draw and more strength/def/HP so she can pick locks and poison strike. I guess she makes a good master ninja/mechanist depending on what you want her to do (mechanist allowing her to use her bow rank and stronger weapon type is nice too with bonus movement being quite useful in some situations with BR open maps). I also found out how useful it was to pair Hinoka with Setsuna in their intro map since Setsuna can double and tank mages and double onis with Hinoka backpack (she 3HKOs the onis in this chapter at base). Don't know who I'm gonna use on top of them. MU is really stat screwed (only stats that got more than 2/3 level ups at lv 8 were HP and strength, making him/her a fighter with swords and dragonstone...with Charlotte level defensive stats and Silas/Effie level speed, so I'm not using MU outside Felicia backpack, which he does well anyway). I like the vanguard and Lodestar skins so I might use some males with DLC classes. Just don't know which ones are gonna be the chosen ones. Now I let you suggest things to try since I've largely seen in my diverse playthroughs that weird class paths often make the best units. Who should get lodestar in your opinion? The class is really poor growths-wise and sword locked, a poor man's swordmaster/master of arms.
  2. Title is self-explanatory, whats your weirdest/oddest experience? Make sure the experience is SFW though, don't want this tread to turn into a mess.. I swear if this is in the wrong category I'm gonna have a f*cking fit...
  3. I had an idea to make this post while I was training my General Forrest. Yes, you heard that right. So I wanted to see if you guys (and gals) had any weird units. This includes their class, skills, and stats overall. Have fun! Edit: Sorry about potato quality pictures...
  4. So I recently just finished my randomized run of FE8 and decided to give the Tower of Valni a try and see if anybody you get from there is randomized, as you can see the answer is no. Then I looked at Caellachs stats. In this run he was randomized into a Mage Knight. Now he's a Hero that has 19 magic and can use tomes and staves. Anybody know the reason for this? I used this randomizer btw: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=55809
  5. I meant to make this post a while ago, but I've discovered something interesting about the enemy AI mechanics from my playthroughs of Awakening and Fates on emulators. As you might imagine, there are times when the enemy AI has to make a "random" decision about what to do, usually involving choosing between two (or more) equally good spaces from which to attack one of your units. So how does it go about doing this? Well, in GBAFE and FEDS, the game would just burn some RNs from the standard RNG to make the decision. In Radiant Dawn, something more complicated goes on which I don't completely understand and won't elaborate on here. In FE3DS, however, it appears that the game uses a separate RNG string (sort of like the one that has been used to prevent arrow retracing RNG abuse since FE10) that is time dependent. What this means, is that under certain circumstances when you make a Bookmark/Battle Save, you are not always guaranteed to get the same results upon reloading your Bookmark/Battle Save! Due to the (rout) nature of most maps in Awakening, this doesn't really matter much there, since enemy units that attack you usually end up dead anyway. But for Fates, it has some striking consequences due to the enemies' ability to utilize the Dual Strike system in the game. I could go on to explain this in detail from a theoretical perspective, but I think an example would be much clearer. Consider the above situation (taken from Chapter 11 Conquest). Bow Knight!Niles is equipped with a bow, and on the enemy phase (once I end my turn) the Lunge!Ninjas will all swarm and attack him from up close. I make a Bookmark save here. When I reload and end my turn, for the first Ninja that attacks, going from left or above is "equivalent" in terms of AI priorities, so the decision is randomized. But depending on which one is chosen, different situations can occur! For example: In the second screenshot (where the first Ninja decided to attack from the left instead of above), the Ninjas end up forming a box around Niles which results in one extra attack on him (due to a DS proc) that didn't occur in the first scenario. This of course causes a shift in the battle RNG, and goes on to have consequences (i.e. different results) in the other parts of the map as well. And these aren't even the only 2 possiblities; I found another one where the Ninjas form an L-shape to block Camilla's path forward too! And remember, these all come from the same bookmark! So yeah, just an interesting tidbit of information that I thought you guys might enjoy. Let me know if it's not clear from the above example why the bolded statement is true and I'll try to explain it from a more pedagogical perspective.
  6. I've mentioned this before but the RNG in this works in an extremely strange manner. I haven't seen this occur in any other FEs (let me know if I'm wrong), but the game uses the RNG differently for short-range attacks vs. long range attacks... most of the time. And yes, I've tested this many many times in different scenarios to ensure this isn't just a result of me neglecting to account for skill procs, supports, or something silly like that. The most glaring evidence for this is a test I did with the a tome-user (with 1~2 range) who attacked from 3 different squares and got different results. I don't really know too much about exactly what is going on here (hence the reason for creating this topic), but I do know that close-range attacks are always "stable;" they work in the normal way that we expect them to (the first 2 RNs are averaged for the hit, and the next for the crit, and then skill procs or whatever). The long range attacks, however, do not seem consistent at all; in some rare cases (which seem fixed for particular tiles on a map, although I have not found any conclusive patterns), it works just like a short-range attack. The majority of time however, it seems to use some alternative mechanism, or perhaps a combination of multiple alternative mechanisms (more details on this to follow). I have not done any testing to figure out if these same mechanisms apply for longbows or siege tomes (and probably won't touch that until we resolve this simpler issue first). I have (in fact, I've had) some proposed tools/methods to do testing on this and maybe gather information, sort of like with the Enemy AI Targeting thread I made here a while ago. Just like in that case, however, I've been too lazy to actually put effort into this and get a detailed understanding of how this system works, and I'm hoping this thread might inspire someone else (or maybe me) to actually put effort into this and figure out what is going on. Feel free to post here with any questions/comments related to the above.
  7. Tell us, did you have some weird or funny dreams? I had a dream once were I lost a bike race against Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck :D
  8. Rate the picture above you on a scale 1-10, post whatever comes to mind. Sick stuff, hawt or lewd pictures, or simply wtf-inducing content. Dodge x Dusk pictures allowed I'll start with a knockout:
  9. So I was playing Eliwood Hard Mode on chapter 25, and then I saw this. I literally made this account because of it. There's this myrmidon here, nothing special, but the next picture is just strange. He is wielding, out of all things, a horseslayer. Has this happened to everyone or is this just some bug that I have encountered? I tried searching for it in the forums or on Google but I didn't get anywhere. As far as I'm concerned, I didn't encounter this bug until I played Eliwood Hard Mode for the first time. If this happened to everyone, I'm sure somebody would have noticed it, but for now, it's just a funny myrmidon holding the wrong weapon.
