Huh... Well, I haven't played FF12, so I can't really vouch for that. However, I HAVE played quite a few Tales games, and just to put it in perspective, one in particular (Vesperia) has a quest that gets you a character's ultimate weapon... that requires you do some easily missable crap long before said character even joins you.
