Why not? He doesn't take up a spot, and since Roy/Hector/Lyn can't access the convoy, it's epic for that Killer Axe you bought that you put in the convoy when that hard boss is being mean. No, he still levels up like normal. He can only get to something around level 8 promoted in Eliwood mode and about 10 in Hector mode. Uh, wrong game. You're thinking FE6. FE7 Merlinus levels up at the beginning of each chapter if he wasn't killed in the previous one, even after promotion. That's how awesome he is. See, I always thought since the tent was unmovable, that he threw things like food into the enemy's eyes so they accidently miss completely.
