Interested in starting a RP here.

For the past week now I've been working during my spare time to build a RP based on the Fire Emblem franchise. Since this place is the most consistently Fire Emblem place I know of at this moment, I am hoping to bring it here. However I must admit that I am still somewhat of a stranger as to this site and I want to ensure I am doing things properly.

Would there be a respectable amount of interest in having a RP here? When I signed up, I remember someone mentioning that there were people here interested, and I would want to confirm that beforehand.

It will be a stat-based RP ATM, but only for the combat. As for actual story... well... I don't wanna reveal details at this moment. There are still a few details I need to figure out first, but I promise it will be as solid a story as I can make it.

interesting, at first I wanted to make a RP of my "soldier of hopes" story as well. But since I found out it couldn't be done due to the story I had, I made it a fanfic. I'd like to see you succeed, I'd be in. ;)

Great. With some luck I should have it finished either by tonight or tomorrow.

You said it was stat based right?

I once participated in an rp like this. I think it was a little more hardcore though. Someone on FE Empire had a program or application that functioned like an FE battle system(determined fight conclusions, etc).

Basically, the participants made characters for the story, and he would make maps and enemies for them to face and post the pictures. Ingame screenshots made from sprites....

It was pretty awesome, and would have lasted longer if not for his business, and the lack of participant consistency.

Hopefully this'll last longer :D

I won't be going as in-depth with the stats as that. Partially because I lack the technological ability to create entire maps and partially because I want to keep this on the simpler end of the spectrum.

At the moment, I'm working out the races that will be present. I want Manakete in some form, but I'm likely gonna have to strip away their ability to transform into dragons simply due to balance issues. Plus, I'm getting a few final details on several... special... things settled (yes, they will matter to the world). Mostly though, I'm trying to reduce the amount of shoehorning that's currently there. The past few years have not been nice to me in terms of creating open-ended worlds, so I'm trying to loosen it up. While I do plan for there to be a plot, I'm hoping to keep it very, very, very lax and allow the players to develop their own stories and characters within the world.

Cool, sounds like I can forget about Star Wars Galaxies for awhile... at least until I get my new computer :awesome:

Just please don't let any jackasses try to throw in instant badasses

Hmm I'm interested in an Rp but whether I'm interested in your RP is based on it's plot, and perhaps more importantly the other participants.

I'm no expert Rp'er but I've critiqued enough these past few years to be able to say the quality of an RP is based on it's contributors, the same way a fanfic's quality is based on it's creator/s. The original idea being good just isn't good enough.

I recall one guy ages ago who wasn't a Sue/Stu. But kept on climbing up tree's and eating apples in the middle of battles. And I recall a Starfox RP (which I only heard of) that went horribly wrong with people turning the whole thing into a sexual sitcom. (Something about joysticks and launching themselves amongst other details)

Ah well I've ranted enough, hopefully rubbish like that won't hit this RP (if it ever starts). One question though, what world are you setting it in? Elibe? Magvel? Tellius? Or back in pre-GBA worlds?

I decided to create a new world. While I know people tend to feel more familiar and receptive to a previously established world, I wanted to do things that I couldn't see happening within any previously established world. With that said, it's fairly close to a post-FE8 Magvel with the way it's currently set up. In fact, with a a few simple changes, I could likely change the world to be Magvel following a 'less than optimal' storyline in it's current state. I haven't decided if I should embrace it and try to establish it in a familiar world, or focus on making it vastly different.

My main problem right now is that, when I originally came up with the concept of the RP, it was focused on several unique weapons called 'Crimson weapons' (highly original. I know). I admit I was watching quite a bit of the Wild Arms anime just before I came up with the idea for the RP as well. >.> Anyways... the things function a bit like legendaries, except with a not-so-shocking price of hurting their wielder as well. Basically, they're souped up devil weapons. No other FE game that I know of has had weapons like that as of yet. That's why I'm hesitant to make it set in a previously existing FE world.

It is a good question you asked, and honestly... I would rather it be set in a original world for those reasons. Yet the more I think about it, putting it in a established world and finding some way to explain their existence feels... more and more charming to say the least.

^^Adding on to my last rant, I should probably mention it's not just "idiot" participants I'm talking about, but also those people who (understandably) have issues with activity.... Both ways >_> Inactivity for obvious reasons but no one likes an RP which has progressed 15 pages while they sleep.>_>

In regards to the Magvel-molding, I'm actually for a original world. Molding it to be post Magvel is fun and all, but there's too many annoying factors to consider. It's really a case of creativity vs references. If you're confident you can create a new world then go for it. If you're lazy or are obsessed with Magvel mold it that way. However if you make it Post-Magvel, make it Magvel+ a few hundred years. Since you don't want characters from FE8 appearing because:

-You won't be able to control 30+ Npc's(FE8 Characters)

-People that RP existing characters cause.... conflict, (Ex: Out-of-Character)

Either way, trust me when I tell you, you don't want to make it around the period of FE8.

Not telling you how to run your RP, but try to keep kingdoms small in number. 15 kingdoms across the land is all fancy, but it doesn't do much good when they have as much relevance as that tree we passed a few minutes ago. If you want lots of kingdoms, adopt the Lycia concept and make them a conglomerate nation.

I challenge your Crimson Weapon with my Azure Weapon!!!

Seriously though, I'm suspicious whether this would work, especially if you're having stats. But then again I question if you can pull stats off in the first place. The reason I wonder if it'll work being simply, their "legendaries" and if they come into play, they'll unbalance the strength of certain participants, ah well, looking forward to what you can come up with.

I have it 95% completed as of the moment of this posting. I just need to make my own character, rework one or two minor details, and proofread it. Then I am done. However, at least back on Gamefaqs, when one makes a sign-up topic they usually include a first RP post. Why often varies, though it's usually to set the mood. I have not drafted one as of this moment. I can write one, but it will likely provide a bit of a longer setback. Is such a thing required here or would it be alright to simply forgo it (I have world descriptions and a state of the world already; so all a RP post would really add would be something similar to a opening cutscene or one of those demo scenes you get if you don't press start).

Good. My main advise if you're just starting off is 'don't get intimidated' and 'if you need help, ask'. Anywho, sign-up topic is 99.9999% done (as in, I have a tab open with most of it put in and am just giving it a final comb-over and trying to calm my worries).

Several points of suggestion.

-Kingdom details: While I don't know if you plan to use these to great detail it'd help if you could provide a bit more information on these kingdoms. We know their form of government, (monarchy and empire(?)) and that they're experiencing trouble in controlling order, but I'd like to know climate/landscape (Or does the entire continent follow the sterotypical Winter=snow, Spring=Lush flora?) Speaking of which I might simply have missed it but what's the name of the continent?

-Review Thread: Like fanfics there'll be times when people want to comment on the way the RP is progressing, and it'd also be a great place for people to indicate their removal/temporary departure from the RP. (It's horrible when someone crucial to the current plot goes missing without a word)

-Chapters: From what I've seen RP's tend to die after the 50th page, regardless of how active they were. And frankly speaking it's a pain to have a thread with 100+ pages when you want to go back and find something. So I'd like to suggest creating chapters (which start in new threads). To encourage later participants, I'd also suggest adding a summary of the events of a chapter at the end of the thread. If people want to join later on, they want to know the story so far, but aren't going to read a few dozen/hundred pages.

An RP note

-Clearly you intend to have "NPC's" or characters which will be controlled by yourself for the sake of plot progression. It's really important that you don't overload yourself with characters, the same way you don't want people having too many characters themselves, it's common sense but (since most people seem to forget) NPC's should leave the main "party" and go about their seperate ways (or you can kill them) they can appear again later, but travelling around with 6 Npc's is like 6 escort missions in one, too much story, and not enough getting through/expressed.

I'll post any other rantings here I suppose :P For now, I'm off to make a character

I'm going to leave the nation details more or less vague. This isn't to say each nation isn't unique or lacking it's own unique features, terrain, armies, or anything like that, but I want to keep things more or less open in the event players desire to have a mountain nation. In general, at least for the big three nations, it's probably best to assume details like them being mainly plains and forests. That wouldn't mean that they are entirely plains and forests, however, and there could be a huge mountain range that serves as one of the borders between two nations.

As for the review thread: I see. Given that the college comps let me log in tomorrow, I will see if I can post one.

And the final two: I see your point and will take them to heart.
