BigKling's Playthrough Notes

There are female Clerics in Chapter 10, but I'm pretty sure that's the only time you see females as generic enemies (barring Pegasus Knights, naturally). From memory, enemy healers tend to be Bishops.

They're the only unpromoted healers in the original snes game. I'm guessing its because the only unpromoted healers in that game were female. For some reason the enemy seems to really hate using female units in most games, even once using the only male pegasus Knights in the series.

I can confirm that they are female. I didn't get a chance to see their battle sprites though, since I avoided killing all of them.

Feena: Well... well...

I like that sword... how about that? [is she confusing who's indebted to who here?]

Was this his literal sword? Or a "concealed" sword of sorts... if you know what I mean? >_>

Considering her convo with MU seems to portray her as a flirt, this may have been meant to be an offer of a... "different" kind of service...

Ok... this took me a while, mostly because I felt like translating the entire chapter. Warning, this may or may not be a little dissapointing.

But first, here's some more supports.

And one MASSIVE TRANSLATION ERROR! Just realised this today. Ok, you know the guy that MU always quotes in his supports? Turns out, it's not his father, it's his grandfather. I kind of skimmed over the word the first time it appeared, saw the kanji for 'father' and just assumed he was using an older form of the word. Real Heron Princess/Queen moment there! I'll edit all my former posts with this new info.

Ogma and MU 3:

MU: Sir Ogma?

Ogma: MU? Why are you here?

MU: No reason.

Ogma: That's crap. Lately, on the battlefield, you've been...

MU: Yes, I've been watching you fight.

So I could learn.

Ogma: I already told you, I'm a gladiator-turned mercinary.

It's totally different from the knight's road you aim for.

MU: I thought the same at first.

Your strength as a gladiator... lawless fighting.

You've certainly been through a lot.

But, in order to match [note: lit 'steal', but I don't think it's meant to be taken in a negative light] your skill,

I resolved to watch you fight.

Like the rest of us, you share a knight's spirit.

Ogma: The same... spirit?

MU: Yes, you hold someone in your heart.

For the sake of that person, you fight.

Am I wrong?

Ogma: ...

MU: Is it loyalty, or a different feeling?

I don't know...

But, you've devoted your body and soul to them.

Like a Holy Knight. That is your strength.

Ogma: ...

MU: My grandfather once said to me "People who fight for themselves may be strong...

but those who fight for others have genuine strength"

Your fighting speaks louder than words.

Sir Ogma...

With the skill of a gladiator and the heart of a knight.

I am honoured to know you.

Ogma: ...

MU: So, from now on, I will acompany you.

In order to learn many things.

Ogma: ...you really want to be my pupil.

I'd like that.

MU: Ah, thank you!

When I was translating this, the first thing I thought was... this is going to cause shipping wars. I admit that Ogma/Shiida would be a pretty credible pairing were it not for the fact that she's canonically engaged (to someone who can't die at that)

Oh, and the Holy Knight line may or may not be a reference to FE4. I'm sure the term is used at least once outside the Jugdral universe...

Ok, this one I translated mainly because it uses a music track I never hered in the game before. It's a variant on the Love Theme, and it actually sounds like something that would play during the epilogue. Anyway...

Linde and MU 3:

Linde: Hey, MU. I'd like to give you this charm.

MU: This is...?

Linde: It's a lucky charm that's all the range back at the Palace.

Wear this and it will protect your body from harm.

MU: huh? It's great, but wasn't it expensive?

It's not like those strawberries I gave you.

Linde: I'm not asking for more strawberries.

I'm giving it to you. I mean,

you've always been protecting me on the battlefield, right.

MU: But, that feeling's mutual.

It's thanks to you I'm still fighting now.

Linde: Right, but, why do you protect me?

MU: You and me, we're part of a family.

Every time I see you fight, well, not exactly, but

I just feel the need to protect you.

Linde: Really, I'm the same, so I protect you.

The flow of time sure is wonderful. I didn't think so at first, but

while fighting togeather, I felt this...

MU: Linde...

Linde: So, so I'm giving you this.

The way you fight is a little dangerous.

Don't hesitate to recieve it.

MU: Right, I gladly accept it.

Linde: Be careful with it, here.

MU: You're welcome.

Obtain Luck Bond.

Interesting that they're actually giving an explanation from the 'bond' items you get.

Merric and MU 1:

This one's very short. Merric just thanks you for helping him earlier.

Ok, here's the start of the chapter.

Roro: Yokiki. So, you are Horace?

You're stubborn, you've already beaten three of my 'brothers'.

But there are manymanymanymanymanymanymanymanymany more of me.

How long do you think you'll last? Yokiki.

Horace: You! Just who are you.

Who ordered you to target me?

Roro: Yokiki. Huh? Not even I know.

But when you think about it, maybe you're the pitiful one.

I know your motive. You've come to kill me.

Horace: My life is not just my own. When I became a knight,

I gave my life to my lord and people.

I won't lose to despicable people like you.

Roro: Yokiki. Just you try. We are Roro. One is all and all are one.

What will you do to defeat us?

Defeating the real me would work.

But, can you find me? Yokiki.

[After you defeat the first four clones]

Roro: Yokiki. No matter how many you defeat, it's useless.

Manymanymanymanymanymanymanymanymany more of my 'brothers' are coming.

Unless you defeat the real me, it will not end. Yokiki.

[From now on, 4 Roros with Devil Axes appear every two turns.]

[Fighting any of the 3 Roros at the top of the map:]

Roro: Yokiki. Am I real? Fake? Guess.

[defeating]

Roro: Yo...ki...

How...? You... caught...me...

[note, only the real Roro has a death quote. The two fakes die without saying anything]

[Chapter end]

MU: Lord Marth, the remaining enemies have fled.

We are victorious.

Marth: I understand.

That was an unusual foe.

Almost as if he wasn't even human...

Jagen: I've heared rumors. The assasins destroy the hearts of infants,

and turn them into living puppets, moving only to follow orders.

Marth: MU, was Katarina also raised in these circumstances?

MU: ...

Marth: But there's nothing we can do now.

We must move on. To follow Anri's Way, that Gotoh spoke of...

[after this, there's the MU mask scene, which I didn't quite translate. It seems one of the assasins dropped it. Then...]

Katarina: Lady Eremiya. I'm sorry, Roro was...

Eremiya: Ah, our first loss.

But, he was a handful. A difficult child.

Katarina: Lady Eremiya, the Altean army is strong.

The fact that they beat Roro should make this obvious...

Maybe we should pull out.

Eremiya: Impossible.

Our orders were to crush Altea.

Katarina: But...

Kleine: What? Aine, what're you so freaked out about?!

Katarina: Kleine...

Kleine: Lady Eremiya, leave the next job to me.

I'll take out those guys.

Eremiya: Ah, my good child Kleine. May I entrust it to you?

Kleine: For your sake, it would be a pleasure.

Katarina: ...Lady Eremiya, what about Roro's other 'brothers'...

Eremiya: Ahh, that. I will...despose of them all.

Katarina: Lady Eremiya...!

Eremiya: Now that Roro is gone, do you expect the others to fight?

They no longer have any use to us.

Clean up your mess.

Katarina: B, but Lady Eremiya, he's an orphan like us...

togeather under you...

Eremiya: Your point is?

Katarina: ...

Kleine: Aine's completley useless, isn't she?

Eremiya, be assured. I understand your disposal orders.

Eremiya: Aah, you truly are a good child. Far removed from useless.

Kleine: Ah, Lady Eremiya. (I'd be happy to)

Katarina: ...

The only bit I didn't fully translate was MU's conversation with Horace. But it's basically along the lines of "My name is Horace, I fight for king and country Nyna."

Well, having expected to find out where/how Roro got his powers, I was a little disappointed. But it did reveal more about the character of the assasins.

As for my impressions on the chapter itself, the 'first wave' of Roros all have really crappy accuracy with their Hammers, but keep the away from Horace. The next waves however... their accuracy shoots up to around 70 which is a pretty big deal since they take off pretty much half your HP if you're not named Knight!MU. It is funny when they suicide with their Devil Axes though. I guaruntee you'll get at least one case of this if you play the chapter. Although it seems that, if they do, they give much less exp (around only 10) Speaking of exp, this is a very good place to train your sword users if they're a little behind.

Will update with Ch 11 later.

So if I'm reading that correctly. . .

[spoiler=Roro]these guys grabbed a bunch of male infants, "destroyed their hearts" (whatever that means), and used them as Roro, with only one Roro being the real one.

I'd love to see how IS translates that mess!

It also explains why Horace looks eternally surprised.

That may be one possibility. Seriously, this is one of the most bizzare things in any FE game ever. Chances are, they're going to reveal the truth in designer's notes later. Until then, expect massive speculation.

Sorry for double posting, but I really needed to bump the topic, as I'm about to add a lot more information.

Ok, been away for a while, but I've done a lot of transtating and completed much more of the game. All I can say is, prepare to be shocked. You'll find out why later.

Chapter 11:

Ok, first, here's:

Barst and MU 2:

MU: Barst, I have something I want to ask.

Barst: Oh, MU! Whatever it is, say it.

MU: You said you did 'various things' after the War of Shadows.

What exactly?

Barst: Ahh... that. [missed out a little bit here]

Why are you asking?

MU: Since my childhood, my grandfather raised me

with the hope of becoming a knight.

I never learned about other lifestyles.

Barst: Do you have a burning curiosity?

MU: You could say that.

Barst: Right. I can't really talk about much interesting stuff.

[i think he's implying he's not too good at conversation]

Does that bother you?

MU: No, it's unlikely to.

My grandfather once said "no single word is ever wasted."

Barst: Wow, you had a really great teacher!

Right, listen MU. First there was Talys, next Akaneia...

then there's the story of how I became a pirate...

MU: p, Pirate!?

Cartainly more interesting than the first one. Interesting how Barst dosen't think he can make good conversation.

No more supports, but an interesting base convo

Merric:

As I expected, this is a gameplay hint about the Flying Dragons. Merric tells MU what he knows of Anri's legend, and metions that one of the enemies they faced was the Flying Dragons. He says that they were weak to bows and wind magic, like his Excalibur. So it's basically a big "deploy me in this chapter."

About Jake:

Standard Shiida reminicence, complete with SD flashback.

Gave Capricorn to Malissa, and Ares to Catria.

Ok, Jake recruitment:

Shiida: Jake! Why are you here?

Jake: Shiida, long time no see.

I came here to meet with my love, Anna.

Shiida: What? Anna lives here?

Jake: Yeah, don't you know? I'm helping with her secret shop.

Meeting her by this small bone, I'm dong this all for her love.

[note, kind of odd here, the kanji for 'bone' could also mean 'difficult' or 'hard'. So he could just be saying "the thing I go through for her love" while hinting at the secret shop's location with a pun that only works in Japanese]

The real question is, what are you doing in the desert, Shiida? [note: I added the first bit, but I think it sums up the way he's saying it]

Shiida: Listen Jake. We are once again fighting for the peace of the continent.

So, like before, could you...

Jake: But, I quit being a Balistician, you know.

Shiida: That's still ok. So, will you...

Jake: I give in. I just can't refuse those words.

Anna's worried about the war. I get it, I too will lend you my strength.

AAh, so he's here because of the secret shop, that makes sense. Anna really gets around. Just what kind of buisness does she expect to get here anyway? Or at the Ice Dragon Temple for that matter.

Speaking of which, the Secret Shop sells all the 'class effective' weapons, including Shaver, Rapier and Wing Spear (but not Sword Killer) They only stock one Rapier though. I presume this is the same with Wing Spear.

I kind of forgot about the treasure, but I found the Arms Scroll and Energy Drop by accident, and they're in the same places they were in the original. So I presume the rest is too (although I expect the Silver Axes have been replaced with bullions. Unfortunatly, I copied over my save, so I can't test it)

In a bizzarly ironic moment, the Master Sword guy got taken out by a critical, from Ryan.

The generic Flying Dragon on the gate uses boss music by the way. Speaking of Flying Dragons, they no longer obviously look like the dragons Dracoknights ride. They do have the same colour as enemy Dracos, but they look kind of different... but that may be because Dracos now wear a lot more armour.

As for the ending, the whole "Hey Marth, who's [insert name here]? Did you meet them in the preveous war?" thing is getting really annoying now, so it was quite refreshing to see Xane introduce himself to MU.

Chapter 12:

Lots of supports here, and these are pretty interesting.

Nabarl and MU 2:

MU: Nabarl! You're here.

Nabarl: You again?

MU: Recently, I've met you a lot on the battlefield.

Surprisingly, it seems like we get along.

Nabarl: ...

MU: Why..why do I always have to chase you?

I can't even look you in the eye. It seems like...

Nabarl: What's your point?

MU: Ah, right. Actually, lately, I've been hearing bad things about you.

Before you rescued Feena, you were a bodyguard for thieves... is this true?

Nabarl: ....Yes.

MU: W, why!? Why would someone like you help villains like them.

Nabarl: ...

MU: What were the circumstances?

Were you reluctant...

Nabarl: That's not it. I am no different from those bandits.

I'm not like all of you.

MU: ...Nabarl.

No, you're not that at all. You're the same as us.

You're in this army for Marth's sake.

Nabarl: ...

... Why do you think that?

MU: I can tell by looking at you.

Chasing you hasn't been in vain.

Nabarl: ...

MU: You're not a bad person. You just got mixed up with those bandits.

You've been unconciously tinged with evil. Now, you'll be able to redeem yourself.

Marth too, hopes this. So, it is my mission.

Nabarl: ...?

MU: Sir Nabarl, to see you return to being an honest man, I will continue to persuade you!

Nabarl: heh...

MU: What's so funny.

Nabarl: You're just as good natured as Marth

MU: What does that mean? The same as Marth? Strange words.

But...that's the first time I've seen you laugh.

Nabarl: ...

... go ahead.

MU: Ah, wait, Sir Nabarl!

What did he mean by that line at the end? We'll have to wait for the 3rd convo. Maybe.

Feena and MU 2:

Feena: Hey, hey, MU.

MU: What?

Feena: You're always training, training every single day.

Even with this cute girl near you, why do you train all alone.

MU: If I don't train every day, I'll get rusty.

Feena: Hmm, that's boring.

I know, hey, hey, want to watch one of my dances.

MU: Your dance? Yeah, I'd appreciate it.

Your dancing gives energy. If you danced for me, I could train twices as hard.

Feena: Well then...

An normal dance, or a special dance, which would you prefer?

MU: Special dance?

Feena: Yes, a special dance.

One I haven't shown to any man yet.

Because... I'm emberresed...

MU: R, really?

Feena: Because you're a special person...

Even though I'm very embarresed...

but, MU, if you want me to...

want to see my special dance?

MU: N, no, I...

Feena: Ahahaha! I was joking.

You've gone all read, it's cute.

I wouldn't show you that easily. Seriously...

MU: Y, you...

Feena: But MU, you're fun and interesting.

Are you regretful, do you want revenge?

MU: No...

I'm going to keep training.

Feena: D, don't get angry, I was just having a little fun...

Hey, waaaiiiit!

Is it just me, or are some of these convos a throwback to FE4. 'Special dances' and all that. Although that time, it usually resulted in Alec getting paired with Sylvia, ugh.

And now, something rather bizzare...

Nabarl and Feena 2:

Feena: Hmm... that's right.

Tie it at the back...

braid it like so...

Nabarl: What are you talking about.

Feena: I'll teach you a new hairstyle.

Nabarl: I didn't ask you to.

Feena: Nabarl, it would be a waste if you didn't take pains

to make your hair pretty.

Leave it to me!

I know a lot about cute haircuts. I want to repay you for saving my life.

Nabarl: You really want to repay me...?

Feena: Ok, how about twin tails! It's a hairstyle that's all the range in Warren.

[Feena is from Warren in case you don't know] I think it'll really suit you.

Nabarl, come here!

Nabarl: hey...

[both portraits disappear]

Feena: (squeal) So cute!

Huu!

[portraits reappear]

Feena: Why'd you stop?

It was looking so good...

Nabarl: Knock it off! Don't talk to me!

Didn't expect that for their second convo. lol.

About Anri's Saga:

Jagen and MU just talk about Anri's legend.

Clock bonuses:

Yuminia: Found Glass Lance

Norne: Found Draug's Lance

Cord: +17 exp

Yubello: +12 exp

Eh, those glas weapons are mostly useful early on, when you can't use Silvers yet but need extra power. Although they are cheap to forge. Draug's Lance is no Camus' Lance, but it's still pretty good.

Might as well add this here. Marth starts facing promoted enemies in the Arena once he's level 15+.

Ok, on to the chapter. This one actually has a few differences from the original. Firstly, the Tomahawk first appears here. And there are enemy Swordmasters on the map.

It seems like this chapter is where the game starts getting serious. The fire dragons are much stronger than anything so far, and those Tomahawk Barbarians are decent too. And yes, in Normal mode at least, they're still Barbarians. I think they're replaced with Berzerkers later.

The enemies here give a lot of exp. It looks like eveyone will be ready to to promote soon.

Here's the Darros recruitment convo. I though I'd translate it literally at first, and then 'pirate it up' afterwards. And I only just realised, I first wrote down the translation on Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Marth: Darros! Why you!? I heared you'd absolved yourself of piracy. [he literally says 'washed your feet of piracy' but I think it's a bit of an odd metaphor, considering the subject]

Darros: Prince Marth, my apologies.

I quit piracy, but I just ended up in this place...

It's not a great story. My crimes still continue...

Marth: Is that right...

Darros, you don't have to be here. You can come with us.

Darrros: Prince Marth, you're not going to abandon me,

you really want me to go...

Prince, I...

I've had a change of heart.

Prince, I would gladly die for your sake!

Actually, I've found this is really the only 'added character' who they just seemed to throw in without much explaination. The others are well done though, so I can forgive them.

Anyway, MU and Jagen have a new bit of dialogue at the end. Then the Sable Knights come. Marth asks why they want to join him since they used to enemies, but I can't really understand their responce.

I think Nabarl is telling MU to go ahead and continue his/her attempts to persuade him.

. . .and with that, Feena killed any chance of being a favorite of mine. I did NOT like that conversation with Alec and Sylvia. At least MU's reaction is closer to what I'd do. Any clue if she reacts differently to a female MU?

Might as well add this here. Marth starts facing promoted enemies in the Arena once he's level 15+.

Can't remember if it was 15+ or 16+ that Marth saw promoted enemies in SD. Ditto for Julian and Rickard.

Been lurking for a while and I want to thank you for this.

Anyways in the top line you mean feena not Nabarl right?

Yes. Thanks for pointing that out. I knew at least one typo would get through...

EDIT: Ok, time to put up the next two chapters. Two important things happen here, I promote everyone, and... 13x. Just keep reading.

Chapter 13:

And finally, here's:

Sirius and MU 3:

MU: Sir Siruis

Siruis: MU?

MU: Are you... maintaining your weapon?

Sirius: Right. I remember making the mistake of

having my weapons wear out, during one of my former missions.

MU: Huh? Sirius, was it an important mission?

Siruis: Hmm... I was a bodyguard to an important person...

No, more like asisting an exile. That's a better way to say it.

Myself and a small group of knights were protecting a lone priest...

We rode through a mountain inhabited by thieves. It was part of our strategy.

MU: Sounds harsh.

Siruis: Mmm. The reason...

The enemy's numbers were far to great. (We couldn't defeat them with out strength alone.)

[note: I improvised a bit here, since I was only able to make out a few kanji, one being strength. As I've said before, Sirius' dialogue is hard]

MU: That's... right.

Sirius: But, there's more. There is another reason I maintain my weapons.

MU: Huh? And that is?

Sirius: [note: Gaaah! This one was just painful, and I can't really make it out. Something about his lord, a 'compotent other' suddenly appearing and the phrase 'slay your foe'. Either he's talking about always being prepared for a sudden attack, or he once had to defend his lord from an assasination attempt.]

MU: I'm sorry about that.

Sirius: Hah, excuse me.

MU: ..! is there someone...!

Sirius: MU, behind you!

MU: What...!? Gah...

Sirius: Watch out!

[sword swish]

MU: ...!! [sword clash. Actually the 'no damage' sound, but anyway]

I, survived.

It seems they've fled.

Thank you, if you hadn't lunged at them, I would have been...

! Sir Siruis, your mask...!

Siruis: Forget everything you saw here. That is all you owe me.

MU: Right, I understand.

Before you ask, no, you don't get to see an unmasked Sirius sprite. It's just his regular one. It would be a bit odd for people to find such a sprite in data, and then realise it's only used for one support convo.

The other interesting thing is that the 'former mission' her refers to is quite obviously BS4. Just think about it. Although I'm not sure why his weapons would be near wearing oyt by the time he reaches the group of bandits to the east. I mean, he had the Gradivus at the time, and it has full uses when you fight him in SD.

Thanks to all those dragons, nearly everyone is level 19 now. I could have used the prep arena to get them all to 20 and promote them pre-battle, but seeing as they've all capped some sats now I thought they'd get better gains by normal leveling. That and I'm saving my gold for the secret shop. So I sent them all out with Master Seals, ready to use once they hit 20.

However, I wanted MU to promote first, seeing as he needs to be lv 5 by the next sidequest. Actually, it turns out he was easily able to get there by chapter 14, so I shouldn't have worried, but...

Not, I'll be doing a before > after comparison like so.

Comments: Ok, once Knight!MU's gains a lot of speed he starts getting crazy. He pretty much acted like a somewhat beefed-up Cav in the later levels of 1st tier. (gave him Boots for the hell of it)

Only capped Def but came pretty close to hitting most of his others.

And as a general, he's officially ridiculous: hits like a truck, practically immune to physical attacks, and not bad speed.

Oh, forgot about clock bonuses:

Horace: +Str and Res

Marth: +Def and Res

Elleren: +10 exp

Etzel: + friendship

Ok, I'll give my views on the chapter itself and then the rest of the stat update. Since I haven't mentioned it before, I should say that 'Another World' has a new organ part added. The first part sounds almost identical to the original.

The secret shop sells all the Killer weapons, plus Psysic.

Will add Beck recruitment when I can be bothered to translate it. Been busy lately, and I don't really care for him much anyway.

Oh, and he seems to be like Jake, he won't attack anyone in his range.

Very very odd thing here: the Ice Dragon on the gate dosen't use boss music, despite both the previous generic dragon bosses doing so. Strange...

Ok, here's the rest of my newly-promoted team

Pretty much has a minimum crit rate of 20 now, and it gets even higher with a Killer Bow. At the moment though, he's doing pretty well with Gordin's Bow (how ironic), giving him decent power and a crit rate of 30. I'm savig Kleine's Bow for WiFi though, it's basically a bow Wo-Dao. She surprised me so much in this regard that I can now afford to drop Malissa when I need to deploy someone else for recruitment purposes.

Chapter 13x

Ok, now I'll admit, I wasn't going to translate this chapter. I didn't really find Kleine as interesting as Roro. Oh well... finally time to take down that sadistic jerk...

And then I beat it. Wow, just wow. I did not expect that. I'm actually going to put the translation of the end in spoiler tags, because it's actually a pretty big surprise. Of course, you all know what happens, but that's not the twist.

First, here's Kleine's battle quotes:

[Fighting]

Kleine: Out of the darkness? I won't let you.

You'll never see the light of day again.

[Defeating]

Kleine: h...how dare you...

how dare you... interfere...

I'll kill you...

Just watch...

I'll really... really kill...

MU tells Marth the enemies have been defeated, and Marth says thay have to go to Gotoh.

After that...

Kleine [injured sprite]: Uahhh.. u...

La..dy Ere...miya...

I am... alone... again...

Katarina: Kleine...

Kleine: A, Aine...!

Why...here...?

What...

I'm dying a clumsy death.

Have you come to laugh at me?

Katarina: Hold on to me, we'll return to the hideout togeather.

Kleine: Wha...

Katarina: You can't walk with that injury, you'll soon die.

Kleine: Why...

Why do you...

go so far for my sake...!

I...I've done so many bad things to you...

Katarina: Because, you're my sister.

Kleine: ....Uh

We don't have sisters.

You and I are both orphans...

Completley alone...

Katarina: But, we both grew up togeather under Lady Eremiya...

Even if you hate me, it's fine.

I don't want to lose you...

If this bond was gone...

I'd be alone in darkness...

So, you too...

Kleine: Aine...

Katarina: So, hold me.

Kleine: Heh...

This is the first, and last time I'm obeying you...

[cut to hideout]

Eremiya: Yes, I know Altea's movements.

Strike when they make the next move.

That's all Lord Gharnef asks.

Katarina: Lady Eremiya!

Eremiya: Has Kleine done it?

Katarina: Y, yes...

Kleine is badly injured...

She needs medical treatment...

Eremiya: Leave her.

Katarina: L, Lady Eremiya!

Eremiya: With that wound, she's no longer useful.

Release her, and let her die on her own.

Katarina: ...

Kleine: What's with that look.

I failed...

My death is only natural...

that...

that... I understand...

Katarina: Kleine...

Kleine: Go. I don't want you to see me like this.

Katarina: I understand.

Kleine: .........

Aine... wait...

don't go...

stay... with me.

I don't... want to be alone.

Katarina: Kleine...

I'll be here. I'll stay beside you.

Because I'm your sister.

Kleine: heh...

Now you're making me nauseous...

...sis...te...r

... ... ...

Katarina: ...Kleine...

Oh, my , god. Was my reaction. Of all the characters I never expected to get a tear jerker death... Seriously, I never thought I'd end up caring about her so much. (to be fair, it's much more powerful when you hear it with the music and see her injured sprite, hence why I put this in spoiler tags)

Not just that, but it seems implied that the reason she's so cruel to everyone... is that that's the only kind of treatment she's ever known.

The game pretty much sets up the player to think "finally we get to bring this sadistic killer down." And what's your reward?

Congratulations. You just killed the closest thing to family Katarina ever had and likely ever will have. Nice Job Breaking It Hero indeed.

EDIT: One more thing about the chapter. The lone chest at the north-east corner of the map is important, as it contains Iote's Shield. Just a random tidbit, but the Thief Staff dosen't work on it unless its within someone's line of sight, so no cheap get-outs, you have to go all the way over there.

Again throwing in some notes:

The original transcripts from the Satellaview versions made it "explicit canon" of sorts, that Camus's Gradivus broke during that battle, and that for some reason he couldn't keep fighting when it was broken (presumably, all his other weapons broke too.) and thus was forced to surrender. This also leds to the logical assumption that at some point the Gradivus went through a repair.

It's notable that this is the outcome of the battle via the voice-acted dialog, regardless of whatever's going on on the screen at the time the map ends. The fact that this is referenced in this support dialog means that this is pretty much still the canon, I presume.

The one odd thing about it is that, in the DS version, you can now "Speedrun" the map through and clear it in a very short amount of time, before any of your weapons were at risk of breaking. This was not how the game played in the original; the map didn't "clear" after Nyna was successfully escorted, and so you spent the rest of the map simply fending off enemies until around the 51st minute or so, where then the program would reach the ending cutscene (this is true of all the BS chapters, BTW). Under those circumstances, you'd almost certainly have at least a few of your weapons broken, if not the Gradivus itself.

Of course, all of this only makes what he's talking about even more obvious - as if we didn't have enough hints as to what his true identity was!

Sorry. . .but I'm still not feeling it for Kleine.

Thanks for the info! That makes a lot of sense. The Gradivus certainly has an interesting history, is it ever explained how Hardin managed to get it after the events of SD?

Oh, and one more thing I'd like to add about Sirius' supports. The first one uses 'The Proud Commander', the secend uses the paino Advance arrangement (what I like to refer to as 'somewhat-agsty-character support theme') and the third uses the violin arrangement of Off to War/Liberation (the 'friendly/commrades-in-arms' support theme) Interesting use of music to show MU's changing attitude towards him.

Sorry. . .but I'm still not feeling it for Kleine.

Maybe it was just the music then. Still, she got a much more ;interesting' death than I would have expected.

Another note about that conversation I forgot to add, you'll notice that Eremiya mentions Gharnef at this point, so it's actually revealed kind of early. I'm interested in translating the conversation where he kills her, although I assume it'll pretty much be along the lines of "Eremiya, thou hast failed me. Now I shall kill thou, and thou lover"

IIRC, here's Gradivus' path:

1. It was in Archanea for who-knows-how-long.

2. Camus takes it in the invasion.

3. Camus somehow keeps it, even though Dolhr isn't happy with him.

4. Marth's army whoops Camus, and takes Gradivus.

5. Marth's army goes on to kick more butt, eventually emerging victorious from the war. It looks like all three weapons are returned to Nyna after the war.

6. Nyna gives her hand in marriage to Hardin.

7. Given that Gradivus was an Archanean weapon, and that Hardin has now married into Archanea royalty, it's not too much of a stretch to think he'd have it.

If you need a kanji dictionary, let me know. I abuse one particular online one on a regular basis.

Before it was in Akaneia, the Gradivus was resting in the Fane of Raman along with the other regalia. Adrah stole the regalia along with the Shield of Seals when he began his conquest of the world.

For some reason, FE12 doesn't mention the part about Adrah stealing the Shield of Seals though (Gotoh tells Marth about this in Chapter 14 of the original FE3).

Anyway, since Astram and Jeorge also wield regalia, the bit about Marth giving them back to Nyna is probably right. I don't recall it being stated explicitly, but it's probably like how Ike gave Ragnell back to Sanaki after FE9.

Interesting stuff regarding the Gradivus. Any explaination on why it's also in Gaiden though? (although that could be a 'different' one, like the 'different' Falchion)

Barst: Yeah, we're finally getting a decent chance to talk.

MU: There are many choices people can make in teir lives...

That's what I think.

Barst: Ah, very well said!

Uh, so what's yours?

MU: Mine, is to protect Sir Marth, no matter what.

Through protecting others, the world can be changed.

That's how I feel.

Barst: Good answer! I'd let you guard my back any day.

I'm going to tell everything you just said to Bord and Cord!

MU: Why?

Barst: Those guys have been mercinaries for too long.

I want to show them the way of living without war.

MU: Ah, I see.

But, that's not what you want, right?

Barst: Oh, why do you think that?

MU: "I want those guys to live their own lives"

That'as what it seemed like you'd say.

Barst: ...Hahaha! You're a tough one!

You're right, MU!

Well, this war better be over soon...

So I can move on with my next lifestyle.

MU: Right, you do that.

Interesting that he didn't mention Bord and Cord until the 3rd conversation. I think the thing with Barst is that he's lived many different lifestyles, and he likes it that way. Cartainly an interesting aspect of his character, but I would've liked him to get supports with Ogma. Oh well.

I got Marth and MU 3, as well as MU and Athena 1. In the latter, I think he has to explain certain words to her.

Since I give everyone's stats after promotion, I missed out Sirius and Feena. So I'll post them now

Comments: Only just realised she could use the Lady Sword. Real facepalm moment there. Another note, she also faces promoted enemies in the arena once her level is higher than 15. Unfortunatly, that pretty much locks her out of using it after that point, since most are capable of killing her in one hit...

On to the chapter. For some reason, the first wave of Ice Dragons all decided to go 'stacks on Ogma'... (kind of reminds me of the attention Holyn always attracts in my run of FE4) while he was holding a Wymslayer. All it served was to level him up twice. Yeah, I don't understand the game's AI either.

Random thing I found out: using the recovery effect of the Immortal Axe will cause you to equip it. So be careful of doing that when a lot of enemies are about to attack you, if you want to conserve its uses.

I never realised just how awesome the Thief Levin Sword (ranged) animation was. Although I think I may learn to dread it if I ever play Lunatic...

Oh, one of the thieves drops a Master Seal

MU got a level up ang gained everything but Mag! That's probably the best in this run.

Now, I can't remember if this is the same in the original, but Marth needs to go to the centre room first. Having anyone (not just Marth) stand at the entrance to the left or right rooms will cause Gotoh to yell at you.

The new version is much closer to the original that Tiki's theme in SD was. And I really like the remix of the 'epic' version too. So that's three versions of the theme (Old Saga, New Saga and Tiki's Theme) so far, and you hear them all in this chapter.

At the end of the chapter, MU talks about returning to Altea, then Xane comes. Why does he love turning into Tiki so much?

Got the MU and Jilian 2 conversation. He basically asks MU to train him, so he can become strong enough to protect Lena.

Here's Dolph's recruitment. Come on, I just had to transtate this.

Dolph: Prince Marth, I have been awaiting your arival.

Marth: ! You're Dolph! You were an Akaneian general,

why have you come to me...

Dolph: I renounced my title. I have left Emperor Hardin's service.

The current Akaneia is unjust. Justice, rests with your kingdom of Altea.

Hence I have come here.

Marth: Is that right?

So, are you going to fight with us, Sir Dolph?

Dolph: Indeed. For this battle, I entrust myself to you.

Love how awesome his speech is. It's a somewhat-high level polite form, and sounds very 'knightly'. Shame he sucks now. (it's actually pretty funny how much my Gen!MU outclasses him, they're both Level 5, but MU has about 10 points more in every stat)

There are a lot of dropable weapons here. One of the thieves even drops a Rapier.

You can still only visit one of the villages, but Marth dosen't speak in the dialogue, suggesting that the line about him wanting the villages to make up has been cut for some reason.

The nothmost Armoury sells Rapiers, but only one.

Other than that, Catria took the honour of first to max a stat when promoted. (her Speed)

And lolGeneralTreeface. (the boss btw) He went down pretty easily, although according to the Lunatic Enemy Stats thread, in loony he has maxed speed(uh, what?!)

The ending is very different. I mean really different. It focuses on Marth and MU's experiences in the prologue, and even contains a flashback.

I request you translate Tomas' (Green Skittle) recruitment conversation, just to see if I read him right.

I think the BS Gradivus is the same. . .which means. . .

[spoiler=More Gradivus]

1. Blah, blah, blah, Gradivus gets jacked, etc.

2. Camus breaks Gradivus in his efforts to free Nyna.

3. While in captivity/whatever, Gradivus gets repaired.

4. I guess Camus got out on good behavior or something, and gets it back, because he's the strongest.

Funnily enough, I'm on Ch 17 now. But first, I need to post my translations for 16 and 16x, the latter of which I translated all of. What can I say? I've become a fan of the assasin subplot.

Chapter 16:

And now, the (possibly) thrilling conclusion to the 3-way support of Nabarl, MU and Feena.

Nabarl and MU 3:

MU: Sir Nabarl, we meet again.

Nabarl: ...

MU: I can fight at ease with you nearby on the battlefield.

Perhaps we are becoming good friends.

Nabarl: I have no intention of becoming your 'partner'.

MU: But, you are becoming a valuable ally.

Nabarl: ...

MU: So, I'm training at the moment, but afterwards...

Nabarl: Wait.

MU: Sir Nabarl?

Nabarl: ...right hand.

MU: huh?

Nabarl: Your ring finger... seems to be injured.

You weren't paying attention... and were hit in battle.

MU: huh? Really.

I must have been in a daze, and not noticed it...

eh...!?

Nabarl: ...?

MU: Sir Nabarl...

did you really,

just now...

were you concerned for me?

Nabarl: ...

MU: Sir Nabarl!

You're finally recovering a righerous heart!

Nabarl: You don't have to make such a fuss.

MU: Just now, you impressed me.

From now on, you are upholding Marth's wonderous sense of justice!

Nabarl: ...Shut up.

MU: Sir Nabarl,

let's work hard, for Marth's sake.

Nabarl: ...

Just carrying the theme of the earlier conversations further, really.

Feena and MU 3:

Feena: [flutter~]

So, how was it?

My dance.

MU: Ah, it gives me a lot of energy.

Feena: Are you happy I did it for you?

MU: Yeah. Since you did that, I can get along with my training.

Feena: You say that, but it's really because I'm cute, right?

Your training is just an excuse to be near me.

MU: ! That is...

...no, that may be true.

[music change]

Feena: huh?

MU: At first, I thought you were just a noisy [note: probbably has connotations of 'annoying' here] girl.

But, after I saw your dance all those times...

Your dance... no, your eyes facinated me.

That's how I feel.

Feena: I, is that...

MU: I'll be quiet. You'll just laugh at me anyway.

But, this feeling is...

Feena: Uh, umm, b, but...

this is the first time this has...

so the...

But, MU, why me?

MU: ...Feena.

Feena: ...MU.

MU: ...

I'm joking.

[music switches back]

Feena: huh?

heeeey!

MU: Because I regretted last time, you asked if I wanted payback.

This is my payback. [note: I decided to translate it like this, because I thought the word 'revenge' would be a little extreme in this context.]

Feena: b, but MU!

I won't forgive you!

lol. I kinda saw this coming though. One thing I think though, although I'm probably overanalysing this way too much: is it possible that this is a huge 'take that' to all the crazy fan pairings that are obviously going to arise out of the whole MU system? It certainly sounded like a "Mary Sue/Gary Stu falls in love with 'insert character here'" fanfiction speech, until it got subverted. (Although whenever pairings in this game are discussed, I'm going to joke that I ship Male MU/Female MU, just to see the reaction...)

I wonder how different this is with a female MU though...

Nabarl and Feena 3:

Feena: Hey, Nabarl.

When this war ends, where are you planning on going?

Nabarl: ...

Feena: There's no point in staying silent. I'm expecting it.

But, why?

Nabarl: I am no more than a murderer.*

When the war ends, I will only seek the next battlefield.

Feena: Can't think of settling down somewhere?

Nabarl: I would lose my sword. [note: note entirely sure what to make of this. He may be speaking figuratively]

When people stay in one place, needless emotions take root in ther minds.

Feena: Why do you deny yourself that? It's a part of being human.

If you don't embrace yoyr emotions, you won't enjoy life.

Nabarl: This is my way of life.

You haunt me too. Any more and would be an obstruction.

[note: the word is more like 'eyesore', but I think this is what he means]

Feena: Obstruction...

That's awful.

[note again: although eyesore makes a little more sense here...]

Nabarl: You don't know what you're misunderstanding.

I discard anything that gets in my way.

Feena: (giggle)

Nabarl: What's funny?

Feena: You can be cruel, but you're not scary.

You don't kill women, right? I know.

Nabarl: I'm not attached to you. [note: or "we're not connected", according to most online translators, the phrase he uses often means 'going out, i.e. dating', but I really don't think that's what he means]

[Nabarl leaves]

Feena: Ah... you're shy too.

But you know, if you don't let me return the favour for saving my life, I'll still follow you.

So, when these 'needless emotions' sprout, will you be nervous? [note: OR "Exited". It could go either way. Actually I feel this one is best translated as both, and left up to the interpretation of the reader.]

That's my return favour.

Hehe, I look foward to it.

*see, I told you he'd say that at least once in his supports! (although I believe he is referring to his life as a mercinary, as opposed to anything he did in the past. I actually think it works better this way)

Interesting. I will admit, I supported the Nabarl/Feena pairing in FE3, but their first two supports in this game made me lose a lot support for it. This one may have won me back. I guess you can take it two way, she's either just teasing him and wanting to have fun, or, as the 2nd last line may imply, she wants to help Nabarl discover new emotions and enjoy them, as her 'return favour'. That's actually pretty deep. I think it'll all boil down to how the localisers translate it.

One final thing, when I was playing around with these, I discovered this gem of a mistranslation:

lolGoogleTranslate2.jpg

lol google translate. It's actually pretty good on single words, but fails at complete sentences, and gets a bit confused if you don't type Kanji. I remember when I copy-pasted the whole 'Iwata Asks' for Shadow Dragon in there, many lols were had.

About Astram:

Jeorge speaks here. Regarding some topics posted here recently, I can say there isn't any real implication they're brothers. He does say "I've known that guy for a long time", so they're long time friends, most likely, but not brothers.

Clock bonuses:

Marth: +str and skl

MU: found Yurublizzard

Roger: +friendship

Rikard: +13 exp

Dice: found Luck Potion

Note: the boosts Marth got stacked with those from the Starsphere, giving him +4's in those stats. After testing him in the arena, found out that these reverted to +2's once the stats capped. So basically, the Statsphere/Shield of Seals allows you to break caps, but the clock boosts don't.

I did the Dolph recruitment, so I may as well do this too:

Macellan: Prince Marth, please wait.

Marth: You're Macellan! Are you here with Dolph?

Macellan: Yes. Dolph and I have come to reinforce you.

The current Akaneia is unjust.

For the sake of the justice you believe in, I wish to fight with you.

Love the fact that both him and Dolph literally join 'for great justice'. I'm actually pretty interested to see their supports, because I quite like their characterisation so far. I will use at least one (probably Macellan, he's got the better growths and weapon ranks) in my second playthrough, which will be 'pre-promotes only'. I will try to use them both if I can fit them.

Also, Willor gets a few lines, which don't seem to have been in the original. At the beginning, when he tells a geberic soldier not to move until he gives the signal, and ine for when he automatically opens the door. (if you haven't done so) Judging by this site's 'event recap' section, it seems this triggers once you open a chest.

Now, there's quite a big change to the enemies in this chapter: many of them are Warriors, something obviously not present in the original, and even SD didn't uses them much. They make a lot better use of more 'modern' classes in this game.

One of the chests has a Master Seal, another contains an Elysian Whip (the second of three, I missed the one in the desert. I'n not actually using them, but still...)

Feena capped speed here... only 25?! Aww... she's capable of going way higher than that! Come to think of it, is this the only game in the series (barring 3 obviously) where Dancers have a Speed cap other than 30? Ironic, because Feena's really the only one of them who could have feasably reached that number...

Ok, prepare for my biggest facepalm moment so far. I killed all the enemies, and was in position to reach the throne, but realised Julian, with the Member's Card, was still on the other side of the map. I didn't want to waste so many turns getting him back, and I facepalmed myself for forgetting the Rescue Staff. So I set up a formation so he could pass it to Jeorge, then to Astram, who gets danced by Feena, thereby getting the card across helf the map in one turn. Finally I get there...

It's only then I realise that there is no secret shop in this chapter! Gaaaahhh! That's what I get for playing this game when I'm out and have no internet access. Well, I'll certainly remember this fact for future playthroughs.

The ending is much the same, but if you fulfil the requirements for the sidequest, MU meets Marth at the castle hall, and tells him this is where he first met Katarina. Jagen then interrupts, and says there are enemies nearby.

That's a pretty good buildup scene. But you'll have to wait until my next post for the 16x translation.

Until then, I'll leave you on that cliffhanger moment.

This was delayed a bit because I just got a video capture device, so I've been playing around with that. But now that I've got time to post this, here it is:

Chapter 16x:

Translated all but the dialogue for killing Katarina.

Opening:

Eremiya: The Altean Army has recaptured Altea Castle.

Lord Gharnef is very angered by this.

Katarina: Lady Eremiya.

Eremiya: So, Aine. Why do you do nothing?

Aren't you ashamed to be alive?

Isn't only natural that you would want to die for me?

Katarina: ...yes...

Eremiya: Aine, you're scum that dosen't deserve to live.

A child abandoned by the world.

Who was it who saved you?

Who do you have to thank for being alive?

Katraina: You... Lady Eremiya.

Eremiya: Kill them.

Katarina: but...Lady Eremiya...!

I, I...

Eremiya: Shut your mouth, puppet.

You will not disobey my orders. That was your "teaching" since childhood.

The heart I carved inside of you with my words, will never disappear.

Katarina: ......u.....uh...

Eremiya: Hehehe. I'll use you until you break, my puppet.

[After preparations]

MU: Katarina...

Katarina: MU...

This is sir Marth...

Marth: Katarina, whatever situation you're in, you can talk to us.

Surely, there's a way to resolve this without fighting.

Katarina: ...I'm sorry. For me... there is no other way.

[MU and Katarina talk 1]

MU: Katarina...

Katarina: MU. I had a dream.

I was only brief but...

It was a very happy dream.

You and I, became knights togeather...

We helped many people, full of gratitude.

Then, togeather...

MU... I...

forgive me...

I said something strange [note: probably means 'I said something I shouldn't have']

I have to return to reality.

Continue the battle, MU.

[Fighting Katarina]

Katarina: I am a puppet...

Only to be used by Lady Eremiya...

I don't deserve to live...

[talk 2]

Katarina: There's nothing more to say.

I am your enemy...

Don't hold back.

Otherwise, I will defeat you.

[note: the thing she says at the end could mean 'kill', but it is a softer term, more like 'defeat' or 'knock down'. Also, the 'don't hold back' line literally is 'please fight', but I think this sounds a bit more natural]

[talk 3]

MU: Katarina! Listen to me.

Katarina: MU...

Why? Why do you do so much...

If I defeat you, you will die.

So why...

MU: Because, you're my commrade.

Katarina: ...

MU: Don't you remember? Those days training as knights?

Luke, Rody, Ryan, Cecil... we all combined our strenghts and fought as commrades.

Togeather, we sought to protect Marth...

So, that's why I'm speaking to you.

[prologue flashback]

Katarina: MU, that's a good name.

Well, let's go togeather.

My name is Katarina.

I came here to serve Marth.

[another flashback]

Katarina: You did it! You won!

I believed in you.

[another flashback]

Katarina: I want to become a knight, with you.

We'll combine out strengths, and help Sir Marth togeather...

Picturing that future, makes me feel happy.

...So, MU, what do you think? You and me...

[back to present]

Katarina: that... that was... a lie.

All, to decieve you...

It was all acting...

really...

about you...

MU: but...

[Katarina's Tears CG displays on bottom screen]

why are you crying?

Katarina: I...I...

MU: Kstarina, this is not the place you belong.

Fighting togeather with Marth, that is also what you desire.

Katarina: Now... that's impossible.

I've comitted many unforgivable crimes.

MU: But...you can still make up for them.

That should be effortless. In your organization, and in Altea,

you have seen many white days. [note: no idea what this means]

This is my only promise. No mater what...

I am your friend.

Katarina: MU...

MU: Come back, Katarina.

Katarina: ...wah....uahh...

...MU...

MU......MU......!

[ending]

Katarina: ... Sir Marth.

have commited crimes you can't forgive.

S, punish...

Please deliver your punishment.

Execute me...

['reunion' from SD plays]

Marth: Look at me, Katarina.

I will not take your life.

Katarina: but... why?

I regret me life, please let me atone for it...

Marth: Thas is not atonement. That is simply fleeing.

Katarina: ...!

Marth: If you really want to repent, then live.

Live, in want to atonement.

Katarina: Atonement...

But, what should I do?

Is there something I can do...

to atone for my crimes?

Marth: That, you must discover yourself.

Before now, you always followed orders without thinking.

But this is different. You must think for yourself, and find your own answer.

That, is my judgement.

Katarina: Sir Marth...

Now, my notes on the gameplay aspects of the chapter. Katarina will still attack (yes, she'll even target MU) until the 3rd talk. So make sure MU is unequipped, or give them a bow if they're in a class that can use them. Also, if you have Feena dance for him, MU can complete two conversations in one turn, meaning this chapter can be done in two turns if you want to get it over qjuickly. On the 3rd turn, Zerk reinforcements appear from the starting position. They have over 40 HP even on Normal, so on they higher difficulties, the'll probably be downright nasty. So, if playing on Lunatic, using Feena could help. (although you'd have to finish off all the other Zerks and SMs on the map in in two turns, not easy)

One more thing, if you kill Katarina, she has a really long death quote, that plays 'puppets don't cry' (basically her theme, plays during the 3rd talk with MU, and during Kleine's death earlier) Since it dosen't play the normal character death theme, there's a chance some newer players may not think she's recruitable (maybe) she even thanks you if you kill her!
