Not on purpose or anything, it was just an accident and I didn't feel like resetting after getting that far. And in FE3, there's not really much to go off of, aside from him being a pretty good unit in Book 2. From what I gathered he seemed like a pretty regular mercenary character, with an affection for his employer in Book 2/FE12. Nothing to really write home about.
