Welp, nothing left to do but go deeper down the rabbit hole. In for a penny, in for a pound, as the saying goes (I think that's how it goes at any rate).

I'm half tempted to attempt to get SRW DD on my phone.

Although, I'm quite certain it's likely it won't be able to run it. Lots of recent things I've found are already beyond its specs... a pity...

I'd say, one thing I miss is when SRW would have big sequences of stuff like when certain units appeared for the first time (or for combination-types, when they first combined), like so:

The PSX remakes of the Classicverse games would use the actual original anime clips, to boot. Which in certain aspects are better than the CGI sequences like in, for example, the latter would do their best to never show the pilots, so it sometimes made it kinda goofy, or awkward. Alpha 2's Daimos sequence come to mind.

Although, come to think of it, this practice was actually only used mostly in the Classicverse and Alphaverse. Though I know Shin SRW had them too, at least for their own versions of the Variable Formation. Hmm, well, it was nice while it lasted, I guess.

So in one of the Discord servers i'm in, i shit on Animal Crossing for the nth time. It somehow turned into a discussion on why Atelier is good and i ended up convincing someone to buy the game. I see this as an absolute win.

Yeah, good old Yggdrasil.

I have not played that many RPGs yet, but I have seen this place's name about a half dozen times yet.

Sometimes Yggdrasil isn't even a tree. It's the name of a ship in Xenogears that functions as a sand cruiser, a boat and an airship.

Not as Susy; but those things are called Suavicremas over here. Or at least, they look too similar to Suavicremas... probably "Same thing, different name in other countries" applies here.

Possibly. Do you have Cocosetes as well?

The same place i bought the Susies also sell these. Cocosettes are basically just inferior Susies but i don't mean that in a bad way.

I also just found out that they made a sequel to Conception II Children of the Seven Stars, which released last Friday.

They did what?

I always saw Conception as that meme game about sex and i'm kinda tempted to play at least one, just for the laughs. Two of them are on Switch but like hell i'm paying for that, i'll just emulate the first game.

Maybe. Though at the moment I can't really confirm. It's not something I eat so never paid much attention, to be honest.

Oh, right, forgot Impact had them too.

Although, that's way more than I expected. Man, they even had GCI cutscenes for things like Reideen fighting Prince Sharkin! Reideen was almost always one to get the shorter sticks in SRW. I think to this day Compact2/Impact remains the only game you can fight Emperor Barao... or have him show up at all. That CGI sequence is basically going the extra mile.

From someone who played and loved the second game (never played the first, though): That's about as true as the whole "Neptunia is only fanservice" deal. There isn't even a single horizontal hula scene to be found in the entire thing, for one. They make references to it, sure (because of course they would with a title like that). First and foremost, these games are dungeon crawlers with a Persona-esque dating sim aspect, you might call it, in which you get to know the characters you're magic-ing kids into the world with, which is basically just Etrian Odyssey's character creation, anyway - and the kids aren't even really human, technically speaking.

Also, the characters are pretty great all on their own.
While we're on the subject, I forgot to include this in my "waifu" list (which is just pictures of female characters I like)

Happy Singles Day!

The Chinese anti-Valentine's Day where you spend money on yourself. And the day where the homegrown Chinese equivalent of Amazon Alibaba made $1.4 billion in the first 90 seconds of sales. -Just to explain this commercial holiday to those who aren't aware of it.

Singles Day is perfect for all of the above waifu posters, because thats how they'll forever be.

Says the ~90% asexual with a ~7% chance of liking guys.

At very first glance, I read this as "Crossette" for reason of your Xenodevotion. Those I guess would be chiles and chocolate.🌶️🍫

I do not get how any of that works, if it even should work (yet, does that matter when it's just for coolness?). But thank you for showing how the SRX transformation process actually unfolds.

In my defense, i've only seen the first episode of the first game's anime adaptation so that's what i was going off of. I really don't know anything about the second game or third game (i'm genuianly surprised they made a third one).

I'm still willing to play just to see what it's like, because i'm kinda intrigued tbh, even if that's like half-ironically.

If i was any good at actually drawing beyond just simple sketches, i would totally draw Crossette eating a Cocosette.

Maybe i can request my friend to do it (i'd pay her for it but she refuses to charge me money for her art).

Not surprised but... really, Singles Day is a thing?

The past few days is the first time I've ever heard of it, but yes Singles Day is a thing in that 1.3 billion people land of the Shang, Xia, Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing and People's Republic. And precisely because it's 1.3 billion people country on the socio-economic rise that it matters. It seems the holiday is starting to put out feelers beyond the borders of the Middle Socialist Kingdom. Although for the US, that'd be a third sales holiday in one month (Black Friday, Cyber Monday), a little saturated November is becoming.

Been playing some more Atelier Ryza and ho boy, this game is... VERY different from the others.
Holy hell, this one does NOT pull any punches, does it?

Why is my game about cute girls doing alchemy stuff in a colorful, happy world suddenly presenting me with every dark corner of human nature, thus justifying my general misanthropy?

Not that I necessarily dislike it, of course, but at the moment, it feels more like I'm playing the newest Tales game rather than an Atelier game.

I had a similar problem yesterday, actually. That's why I had to edit my post, because at first it didn't work, then it worked and it was a little odd.

There... there was an anime? The hell?

I wasn't trying to tell you off, by the way. Hope my post didn't come across that way.

Bolded part: Honestly, I feel the same way. Even though I like the second game, I can see why the title/premise would turn off some folks, to put it lightly. And I didn't hear many people talking about Conception II, so I didn't think it was successful enough to warrant another one. But apparently, it was, so... yeah. Perhaps I'll pick it up sometime.

Mmm well, i wouldn't say very different. The Dusk trilogy is more serious than the Arland and Mysterious series (the premise of Atelier Ayesha is that the titular protagonist has to save her sister from being stuck in limbo or something like that). Ryza (and this is likely the start of a new trilogy so let's tentaivly call this the Secret trilogy) seems to be more in line with Dusk than Arland or Mysterious.

At it's core, Atelier games are still slice-of-life, only some games are more serious than others.

Yep. It was really just a glorified ad for the game though.

Nah, it's fine. It's nice hearing the perspective of someone who's actually played a Conception game.

Well, Ryza seems to want to remove itself from the whole slice-of-life thing right now.

But it's true: every Atelier game has its serious moments, like the backstory of Sophie's book friend, Totori's family situation, and the last quarter of Lulua in its entirety. It's just that those usually happened at the end of the game, not the beginning/middle (Totori's situation notwithstanding), which is why I am honestly surprised.

Huh. Interesting.
Was it at least somewhat watchable/good akin to the Tales of the Abyss or Neptunia animations or was it complete garbage?

Eh, the character events and some of the sidequests are still pretty slice-of-lifey.

Well i only saw the first episode. As far as first episodes, there's been much worse. But i didn't feel like watching any further.
