I've put together some IRC rules...

Recommended Posts

Rules revised on Sep 10 2008. (Complete rules written by SmartRutter7)

Short version of rules:

No flaming, no spam, no porn, use proper grammar, don't abuse the bots, and basically use your common sense.

READ THE RULES AND LISTEN TO OPS.

For ops, do not abuse your powers.

____________________________________________________________

OFFICIAL #SERENES_FOREST RULES

Rule 1: No flaming other people, especially ops. Ops reserve the right to kick or kickban you for a period of time.

Rule 2: Keep spamming to a reasonable limit. If it gets to the point where the chat is flooded with spam, that's overdoing it, and ops may kick/ban etc. When the chat is relatively empty and with few users, i don't think its as much of a problem to spam. After all, the whole point to not spam is to not interrupt a discussion.

Rule 3: No links to pornographic images or anything that shows inapproriate areas of the body. This means no linking to images OR pages containg such content. When in doubt, ask an op. Punishment for this: kickban. If an op isn't around and finds out about it later, and can verify the logs are correct without a doubt, still a ban.

Rule 4: USE CORRECT GRAMMAR. It's annoying to see people typing like they're still in first grade. One exception is leet and other internet acronyms of course. But don't spam the place up with constant leet.

Rule 5: Op abuse. If you have any complaints, contact me or one of the other ops. If one of them doesn't listen, contact the head op (that'd be me, SmartRutter). Such examples of op abuse could be kicking/banning for personal reason, setting mode +m for an extended period of time, and of course all the other rules still apply. Punishment is pretty much my choice, depending on how badly you did it. It could range anywhere from a: warning, kick, ban, temporary loss of op privilges, or total elimination from the op list.

Rule 6: Scripts and bots. Since i'm pretty much the person who runs these, here's the rules about this. DO NOT SPAM AND OVERLOAD MY BOT. It runs right here, on my own computer, i have logs, even if i'm not there, i still can see what you did. Same goes for scripts, don't spam them, ops can turn my scripts off by typing !scripts off. !scripts on turns them back on, !scripts shows the status of my scripts. !help will give you a list of my scripts, in case you're ever lost. My bot is Makoto, she talks back to if you mention her name, you'll find the responses rather random and funny at times...

Rule 7: DON'T BE IGNORANT OF THE RULES.

Rule 8: If you're really want to be an op, ask me, i may consider, once i say no, don't spam me by begging for it. Ops will be chosen by their maturity level and aptitude for irc commands.

Rule 9: Insubordination. Don't ignore the ops, they control the chatroom. If you don't like a certain op, tell me, i can remove ops as easily i can recruit them.

Rule 10: Just use common sense and don't treat others like crap. So go on the chat, have fun, and don't going ruining it. Have a nice day. :)

Does this apply to only the official forum chat? Or does this apply to all like 'B-team' C-team' etc etc.

No, I don't think it applies to spin-off chatrooms.

Speaking of those chatrooms, do we still use them?

Since IRC is more rapid than forums, it needs a decent set of rules FOR it. I'm going to suggest a few things, since I'm an OP on there, and wanted some things to stop.

1. The OPs rule the channel and all rules below are by their set standards. For instance, Nightmarre might like it if he was spam+flamed at with "b*tch" over and over again. I, however, don't.

2. Spam, case-by-case. If you're talking so fast because you type so fast, then it's okay, as long as it's relevant. However, if you're spamming random letters or the same word over and over, prepare to be warned, then kicked, then low-time banned. Don't spam in PMs, either. OPs can see those, too. You have been warned.

3. Some of our users are young of age, so I beseech thee, no pornography. Automatic kickban. If you don't think it's okay, ask an OP. If no OPs are present, or you don't get an answer, use common sense to figure our if you should show it or not. Judgment calls by the poster when no OP is present will result in a warning at worst, never any more.

4. Flaming should be kept at a minimum. If someone asks you to stop, especially an OP, you should probably do so. Flaming in bad taste will result in a warning, kick, then ban. (OPs especially >:o)

5. Try to use proper grammar and spelling, or at the very least, make your point known in as best English as you can muster.

6. OPs are still SF members, too. If you suspect an OP of abusing his powers, refer to the chain of command. That is to say, talk to the offending OP, talk to the OTHER OPs, and then talk to VincentASM when those fail. OP abuse does not include kicking for fun, but it does include leaving the room in moderated mode, kicking or banning for personal reasons, and flaming other users in bad taste.

If you follow these rules, you're bound to be okay on IRC. Just remember, it's a chat room, so play nice, get along, and have whatever infinitesimal fun you have after these rules :D

who didnt follow the rules :)

I've only had a brief look, but the rules seem pretty reasonable so I'll pin this for now.

I'll check the rules out in full when my head doesn't hurt so much >___<

These rules are ok, just don't make up silly ones any more (example: pointing out typos will get you banned).

I apologize if it was a joke.

It was just a joke. Anything after that rule pin up in the topic is a joke :P If there was a real rule, it would be added to this topic ^_^

The rules only apply to the #Serenes_Forest.

The spelling rule pretty much means that I don't want to see "teh noob iz teh ghey" or anything of that sort. >__>

awww no leetspeak then? :(

I hate IRC rules...

Speaking of IRC rules, most channels i go to have none, its really just using common sense to not act like a total idiot. It's also pretty much ops are the dictators. Of course, they're all mostly reasonable enough so there was no need for rules to have to be put in place.

Also, a rule i would like to put out there regarding my scripts... don't spam them, or i will remove your access from them, if you continue to spam the command even after i do remove your access, you may be kicked for spamming.

To the ops: I set up a command for ops to turn my scripts off, (just in case i'm not there to do it myself and people are spamming them). Just type !scripts off to turn off and !scripts on to turn back on, !scripts alone returns current status of whether scripts are on or off. Yes, only ops can do this, so everyone else need not try.

I think he means that using retarded spelling for serious conversations is not allowed. I have nothing against it if it's used in good fun or if it's used a few times. But if somebody uses that kind of spelling all the time, it does get annoying.

makes sense, cause i don't want to get kicked for using leetspeak once in a while. Heh, technically chanserv kicks you all back for that anyway since i'ma op. :P

addition to rule: just like my scripts, if you overload my bot, i reserve the right to kick.

So does SF own DarkMyst itself? <_<

No.

SS was most likely lying.

Smarty created the bot Makoto/Kitsune with that thing that he uses for going on the IRC chat.

no i use a program called Eggdrop to have the bot work, along with a MegaHAL module/script which has the code to let the bot talk to you. In linux i use xchat for going on irc, in windows i use mIRC. Every so often i will also use mIRC in linux by emulating it via the WINE program. Of course it sucks when you emulate it though. -_-
