New Characters

Sharon is a slightly upgraded version of Kate but still pretty mediocre. She comes with City Fighter and learns Charge and also Re-Move once she promotes into the mounted Arrow Knight class but meh.

Billford comes with Life or Death and Big Shield, and also learns Awareness, Continue, and Charge later, and along with his better stats he's pretty much better than Norton in every way... as a knight. But for whatever reason Billford promotes to General, and Norton promotes to Iron Knight (which is mounted) so NORTON ALL THE WAY

I didn't take a pic of Mintz because we don't technically use him until the next Runan chapter and because I forgot to take one, the game transitioned to Holmes, and then I was too lazy to go back and do it even though it would have taken like 10 seconds. cough

I will maybe hopefully have HOLMES's first chapter on Sunday.

This chapter is kind of noteworthy for having four new characters who will all be used in at least the short term, and also for being skippable, although we're not because we're completionists!

New Characters

Holmes is our second lord. He's a bow lord, which isn't as bad as you might think because there are some pretty good bows in this game. His stats are quite good as well, with STR/SPD stats around the same as our promoted mounts. He can also pick locks! And he has Sea Fighter, because he's a pirate captain. He learns Rising Dragon later on; that's nice, and also Continue (although he won't reach there), and like Runan learns Charisma upon promoting. He'll be pretty useful; definitely more helpful than Runan.

Shigen is also pretty decent. His stats are slightly better than Vega's, but he doesn't have Schramm. What he does have though is Dullahan, which automatically revives Shigen (at the cost of a use) should he die with it equipped. Unfortunately Dullahan's actual stats kind of suck; it's heavy and inaccurate and a lot of times Shigen dies because he has it equipped. He starts with Continue and Sea Fighter (it's mandatory that all the pirates have it), and also learns Arena Fighter and Rising Dragon at levels he may or may not reach, and Gale at a level he most certainly won't reach.

Samson is Barts 2.0, with better stats in everything other than tying in strength (and movement). He trades out Barts' Mountain Fighter for Frontier Fighter, and learns Gale later. He also learns Awareness, but it requires him to be unpromoted at level 20, and I'm pretty sure it's not worth it because there aren't a great deal of enemies with skills in this game, and he won't be fighting the ones who do. Also Continue at Level 29.

Alicia is Maruju 2.0 although the stat differences between them aren't as large as between Barts and Samson. She only wins by 1 point each in skill, magic, and luck. But, she trades out fire magic for thunder magic. Thunder is a little better than Fire, trading out 2 mostly superfluous Mt for 20 extra Hit, and the less basic spells don't matter because neither Maruju nor Alicia have the weapon level to use them. But remember, it's mandatory for every game in this era to have a thunder mage with a Prf thunder spell with a brave effect- ENTER BRENTHUNDER (translated to Mjolnir in this patch). It's stronger and lighter than Wundergust, at the cost of 5 Hit and 13 Crit. Alicia starts off with no skills, although she does learn Charge and Continue at levels 16 and 32 respectively, because I guess hitting something 4 times just isn't enough (#Noish!Lakche). She'll be useful enough.

Lionel is pretty cool, but alas Lee is better in 0% Growths, so I didn't get him. Still, Lionel's got City Fighter and Life or Death, and gets Awareness and Arena Fighter at reasonable levels later on. He's got decent stats and promotes to a good class, Sergeant, that can use all non-bow physical weapons. He's also notable in runs with growths for being one of around 5 characters who have a non-zero movement growth rate (5% for Lionel).

Attrom is kind of crappy; he has almost exactly the same stats as Xeno (+1 luck) but doesn't have Sea Fighter or any other starting skills. I may have underrated him somewhat in the video for regular playthrough though. He does rock 40/45 STR/SPD growths, which is pretty excellent for this game. But he doesn't learn any skills until Heaven Saint at level 15 (and needs to be unpromoted to do so), and then gets Blazing Wind at level 26. Meh.

Wow I actually took a picture before any combat this time! Krisheenu is pretty terrible; she's a kind of Myrm-Thief mix in that her class is officially Myrmidon, but she has the Steal skill. But she doesn't have Picklock, so she'll never see use. However, her claim to fame is that later on in the game there's a glitch involving her which allows you to duplicate items (like Ruka's claim to fame, it requires her death). I'm not going to use it, but I'll talk about it when the time comes, probably. And oh yeah she learns Rising Dragon later on yay.

Frau is cool. Her bases are a little better than Mahter's, but she doesn't have the Wlv+ I already invested into Mahter, and her skillset isn't as good, which is what I meant when I said her bases are worse. So ultimately she's unlikely to see much use. TBH I shouldn't have decided not to buy that Dragon Flute in C10; should have kept it for Frau if I wanted to baby her up to 10. She's got Re-Move at base and learns Continue and Anti-Evil later at level 12 and 25 respectively.

Sun is also cool, and promotes into the Black Knight class. That's above Commando Knight and Paladin in the Rook Knight Promotion Tier List, but not as good as Gold Knight, so it's not worth raising her just for the promo gains. But she starts with Re-Move, gets Elite at level 5, gets Charge upon promoting, and also gets Geomancy and Awareness at levels 25 and 40 respectively.

Lyria is like Plum, in that she's a Priest with an additional skill, Song. Her stats suck, and Song isn't that great either, but neither of those things are why Lyria is important. It's because later on, she gets the Power Staff, which is the physical analog to the Magic Staff, and is therefore going to be very useful for some lategame bosskills.

New Skills

Song ts-song.gif: Restores some HP from 1 range, with range growing as it is used more up to 4 range. It also has a very small chance to refresh the target.

Maerhen! The Shanam of this game. He's a joke character, for two main reasons- while not relevant in a 0% growths playthrough, his growths are terrible. His highest growth is his 10% HP growth, he has 5% growths in STR, SPD, AGI, and LUK, and 0% growths in DEF, MAG, WLV, and MOV. Adjusting his growths to 0 before the game started took only half the time as the other characters. The second reason is one of his skills, Mug. It allows him to steal items from enemies, but reduces the hit and avoid of all his allies in a 3 square radius... by 50%. It's especially funny because he has Steal too. He also has Picklock, which is why I brought him along this chapter. I don't think he'll be used again.

New Skills

Mug ts-mug.gif: Allows the user to steal items from enemies after battles, but reduces the hit and avoid of every ally in a 3-square radius by 50%.

Rising Dragon ts-rising-dragon.gif: Upon activation, the user performs an attack that does triple damage. Its rate of activation is (User's Skill - Enemy's Skill + 3)%, with a minimum of 3%, but can only activate at 1-range.
