JSND Alter Dragon Boner
Beelzemon is actually even stronger than Paladin(with much worse skillset ofc), whcih is insane considering how easy it is to unlock it compared to pm and diaboro Lol classic agumon

Terrador
[spoiler=Let's Meet Agumon! Genesis and Journey to Seiryu City!] Aight, let's DO THIS [ignore the CONTINUE option; we clearly can't do that!] Apparently my name is Junior. I must be a pussy. How swell~ Wanna play a game? Guess how many times these police are mentioned in the game. Go on, guess. Hint: it's never. I need an adult!! >Digimon are for kids >terrorism with Digimon possible >they are kids anyway Yeeeah, I'd be mad at this skank too. Another acronym that will literally never be explained, even given that they're mentioned all game long. The genuine fuck. ALREADY DONE AGUMON GO PLUS OTHER CHUMPS ...how does Monmon get top billing over two of the absolute guaranteed 100% top 5 most iconic Digimon? I don't... I don't even know. ...also. How do you wind up with people who have Digimon that aren't in these starter packs? As I guess you can surmise, 99% of Tamer enemies are not a form that your Digimon get, ever. And no, you can't tame Digimon or any of that shit. ...I will need to research this more. [A little something I love: Junior does an animation where he flips a coin to the lady before picking. Little touches like that are just... delightful, and I'm never quick enough to screencap them] #perfect_fit AGUMON FEARS NO MON Looks like finishing quickly is a good thing. Yaranaika. Her fists quiver with repressed sexual desire rage! COCKBLOCKED GAME OVER RETURN OF GANONDORF No, this is the world of "you're hallucinating and have probably been killed by the Matrix Chamber for trying to smuggle in a Fourth-Wall Hammer [+60 Str/+900 Cha]. CANNOT DECIDE TEAM AGUMON REPORTING FOR DUTY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOJ5tOnbjqM Think this, but with the falling-down only lasting a few frames. All day. Erry day. YEEEEEEEAH. Sorry, Agu, but you'll have to carry these punks on your Digi-shoulders. DIGIPUN DIGITALLY MONSTROUS KILL US BEFORE THEY HAPPEN WHO'RE YOU I DON'T WANNA LEARN HOW TO CATCH KUNEMON don't worry if you don't get this joke; you will in a few minutes. And suddently this instead. ...except Monmon is fighting. TIME TO SPAM RUN UNTIL HE GETS DROPPED. NO EXP FOR YOU. Thaaaaaaaat's better. Pepper Breath, bitch! ...I think the fact that I'm tempted to make an MLP joke right now makes me a bad person. for you plebian scrubs, bits are MLP currency. I'm more inclined to think that Digimon Online is just plain broken. A virgin Agumon one-shots and shreds a presumably veteran low-Champion Digimon? nnnnnno. Something is wrong here. Then "yada yada go learn how to do shit". Yay. --- Asuka City's pretty boring. There's NPCs, shops, yada yada yada. That said, en route to the Yellow Cruiser, I just so happen to find... This is actually a solid bit [hurrhurr] at this point. Kunemon and shit give single-digit, so... yup. Junior being a classic retard: Hurrhurr, because I don't know how to store papers. ALSO CARDS ON THE FLOOR YOU CAN'T PICK THEM UP, SADLY. ...Candlemon is pretty much Chandelure's Basic, but a Digimon. And somehow, that smug jackwagon still feels superior. ALRIGHT TIME FOR ME TO SHOW YOU THE BASICS OF THIS GAME Because I'll mostly skip Card Battles unless they're funny or some shit. You've got a deck of forty cards. They're split into two categories: -Digimon, which can be summoned and have AP and HP stats. -Program cards, which can do fun shit. You need to have more HP than the opponent at the end of battle [with HP reduced by opponent's AP] and draws are a loss for you, so defending is very important. Each Digimon and Program card has a specific color--White, Red, Blue, Green, Black, or Brown. They each have an intuitive theme of Digimon and Program cards. Drawing a card of a given type gives you an Energy of that type. Rookies and Program Cards cost nothing, but stronger cards can cost one or two, up to three and even very occasionally four. Brown is weird in that nothing it has requires energy, but it can be very easily disrupted with common cards which wreck brown Digimon in particular. OKAY I THINK I'VE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING I'll do a phase-by-phase of the duels, then limit screencaps of Card Battle to important [Duel Island] and funny things. Ready? Go. Oh and also playing three of the same Digimon gives you their AP and HP again, and playing four gives you that +20. The game's mechanics don't allow it with 3/4-cost Mega Digimon, but that's rather unlikely anyway. ...okay, none of these b-bakas wanna duel anyway. Alright, then. ...you can't... even... see them. How does he know my Digimon's charisma?! Although now would be a good time to go over STATS. HP: Hit Points, obviously. You revive with 1 HP after battles, but given the mostly-solo nature of this run... yup. MP: Used for special attacks. Now, the left column of stats starts low, but can easily skyrocket. The right, on the other hand, is less malleable--they can really only be improved with specific stat training, niche equipment, and Digivolution. Aight, continuing. Oh, and they cap at 999, period. However, being a higher Digivolution tends to have an effect that transcends stats... Left column, going down. Strength: How hard your attacks hit. Every bit counts, trust me. Really OP stat to have high early on. Defense: ...do I have to explain this? Really? Spirit: How powerful your magical attacks hit. These are MP-only, with a special blue triangle instead of an orange one. Kind of broken--it's not a powerful weapon if you're a Digichump, and doesn't put out that much damage if you're a Digichamp. Wisdom: your defense against special attacks. Not very useful... until you get into lategame. Then you will worship this stat. Agility: Another OP stat. Determines move order, how often you get two consecutive moves, how often your attacks hit, and how often your opponent's attacks miss. You want this high. Charisma: Doesn't go up by level. Its effects are... hazy. But I suspect it affects critical rate, for one. Damage variance isn't a thing, so it wouldn't affect that. Virtually all equipment improves it. TP: You get five per level. They're used to train at Gyms, which up specific stats. This is a ridiculously OP mechanic seriously use it abuse it love it it is the sex. Right column, in order, are the tolerances. They're Fire, Water, Ice, Wind, Electricity, Machine, and Dark. Most offensive special attacks, some enemy physical attacks, and your own physical attacks when wearing certain gear: they all have a specific type, and are subjected to these tolerances. On the right, you can see slots for equipment and up to three Digivolve forms. You can store others away for later use. OKAY BACK TO THE GAME I SWARE Here we are in Central Park. Gorgeous locale, complete with a surprise! A Power Charge! +500 HP, 12 BIT. ...it's just a bit OP. The Charge line really really is. GET IT KUNEMON--IT'S WEEDLE I WAS MAKING A POKEMON JOKE [anyway first rando encounter woo] And two of these chumps later? Agumon is at Level 2! So grand. Soooooo grand. He's kicking a tree so that a Digimon will give him cards. Can you say "petulant child"? At any rate, I'm pretty sure I had to speak to this fellow to trigger a quest later. You, too, can kick trees and make defenseless Digimon appear! Also, I apparently have to bring him his Gabumon card. Worthwhile sidequest 10/10. OH SHIT I AM NOT READY FOR THIS Agumon ass-saving count: 1. Why, good Lord, why. I got wiped. Let's pretend that didn't happen. Rebooting from last save and redoing the last fifteen minutes or so, with a side order of Agumon not getting wrecked... I BELIEVE IN YOU THIS TIME AGUMON I have no words ♥ 20 EXP. I'm reminded of a certain guildmaster... Copyright 2008, Rich Burlew. If you don't follow OotS already--do so. It starts off good, then gets absolutely fantastic. You can also find Tapirmon in Central Park. They're stronger than Kunemon, but only marginally. With no MP and that Power Charge gone, I don't wanna fight more than one or two before making it back to the city. In the city, Gatomon heal your Digimon fully for 8 BIT apiece. This price rises throughout the game, but is still insanely cheap. Guardromon also save--which I do a lot. I don't savestate at all. Yeeeeeeah. But in all seriousness, I'm going to rig the training mechanic, but will access a Guardromon immediately beforehand. It's only fair, after all. ...*facepalm* In town, I got two Short Swords for Agumon, boosting his Str and Cha significantly, plus a Power Charge as a supplement. Now, I'll go out into the world and beat up more Digimon! And by that I mean "do a couple of sidequesty things before actually going to PLOT". Leomon's Gym, where the strong train! Also, apparently, tolerances grow about as fast as D&D saves. Which is to say "not very fuckin' fast". Or maybe it's a Cha thing...? I'll get back to you. Two levels' worth. Yeah. This mechanic is insane. And I love every moment. Plus, the sprites are kawaii! After returning the card, I get sent on... Another sidequest. Oh, joy~. While dicking around in Plug Cape, assuming I could just slaughter Vegiemon to my heart's content, I run across this jolly fellow: Betamon. An Electric Digimon. Hrm, how did the cycles go again... Fire>Ice>Wind>Water>FireMachine>Dark>Thunder>Machine That was it. Agumon apparently one-shots these chumps, too. TIME TO FARM WOOOOOOO [i really only have any reason to do this earlygame, since the start in this game is rather rocky] It was only four or five anyway. On we go! This is the Wire Forest Entrance. We go this way for PLOT! Which is to say, chasing down powerful Digimon and beating the shit out of them. You know, for kids! In the Wire Forest proper, we face Kuwagamon again. They're not tough enough to pose any threat to Agumon, though! It's actually pretty cool, to be honest. That said, we don't much care about it--we need to go on, to Seiryu City! Pff, fuck that noise. That said, I do need equipment for my other Digimon to get into El Dorado as soon as I can, since El Dorado gives you pretty much everything you could ever ask for. Ever. We find more Kunemon and Betamon in here, but do we care? Answer: Not even a little. East Wire Forest has a similar aesthetic, and is actually pretty cool. Still... it loses its luster after the 100th trip. We stop at the Forest Inn [forgettable place, really, although someone downstairs complains of ghosts] to patch up, and continue on. This... is Protocol Forest. It's scary, it's depressing, I don't need to be here yet, and I'm only visiting for a specific drop I need for a sidequest--you'll see soon enough. DOKUGUMON, AKA a fucked-up spider. A Champion Digimon, specializing in attacks that cause poison. Which really, really sucks. ...and the thing isn't one-shotted by Pepper Breath. Color me surprised--and scared shitless. Thankfully, it only 12HKOs Agumon! So I can fight a few 'til I get a Spider Web. MOTHERFUCKIN' GREYMON THAT'S RIGHT COME AT ME BITHCESSSSSSSSSSS ...except there a few limitations with Digivolution. Although it increases your stats, you don't get your Rookie's Finisher; you only have techniques loaded from other high-level forms you have with you [which can only be done if the form in question has been used a lot]. Greymon is, for now, limited to his physical attack--but with his ginormous Str and Digivolve bonuses, he can handle it. This allows him to automatically start battle as Greymon, unless he's ambushed... which shouldn't happen often. For reference, Agumon's stats: Greymon is a sexy beast. [also: everything I said about special attacks does not apply to early-form finishers. THOSE kick ass. In case that wasn't patently clear.] ...d'oh. FEAR THE GREYMON! One. Shot. Pretty sure that's a crit, but... I don't even care. Go Greymon. Digivolutions have their own forms, which have no effect on battle stats. Instead, they allow for techniques to be used by that form, then gifted onto other forms many levels later. These level much much faster than the Digimon's Rookie level; one can expect anywhere from two or three [earlygame] to upwards of fifteen or twenty [lategame], depending on how hard the Digimon is to level. That said, the highest levels on higher-order Digimon come much slower. Case in point: Greymon's first technique. No luck in finding Spider Webs yet, sadly. ...and Greymon's attack overshadows his Flame Ball against Dokugumon. See how this escalates? Spirit doesn't scale well at all. Attacking? Oh, hell yes. Physical specials are hit-and-miss, but tend to be useful. After killing something like the tenth one, I started feeling a little overpowered and just savestated until the one I was fighting dropped the Spider Web. Sue me. En route to Seiryu City, we pass through here: Divermon Lake. Nice place, all told. Decent drops, good soundtrack--a pleasant experience. Again... until the hundredth run to Asuka City. Believe me, it gets tiring--you'll see soon enough. In this new area, Wind Prairie, we find Yanmamon. They're pretty chumpy, skittish things, hell-bent on... running away. Just a quiet little plains outside Seiryu. Nothing to see, really. Seiryu City, the City of Wind! Gotta find Seiryu Leader, so I can kick his ass... right? ...well then. Our princess is in another castle, it seems. Tune in for the next post later tonight. Errand Boy: Seiryu Leader Edition!

Terrador
[spoiler=Seiryu Leader Makes Me Do Things] Remember that guy? Yeeeeeeah, he's a dick. Not going to Protocol Ruins, though--I have some... other business to attend to. BACKTRACKING ALL THE WAY TO ASUKA CITY YEAH Oh, hey, found another chump in Divermon Lake. Neato. Water-element Digimon, obvos. And it looks like this random Tamer Natsumi will Card Battle me now! After a glorified coin flip, you draw six cards, and your Energy is publicly announced. Some Program Cards can be used here--I don't have any in this starter deck. "Yay". Now, I summon my Digimon. Geckomon (7/5 and much goofier than the card implies) and Roachmon (9/8) are Champions; the rest are Rookies. Here, we can use any and all Program Cards. Unless she pulls anything funny, I'd save Protect Armor for future rounds. She played a Summon Patamon card, but I have no need to respond and no means/need to counter. I drop her HP to zero, and I still have HP, so I win this round. It's best 2/3, though, so it's "anyone's game". Also, note how beastly DA BEAR is. Go, DA BEAR! You're DA BEST! He's literally the strongest Rookie Digimon in the game. Many tie him, but none surpass him. Hagurumon is arguably better earlygame, since he can be four-comboed relatively easily with Trade Charge [search 1 discard 1] and Summon Hagurumon's double-summon for what are effectively 7/9s, but... he's just better. RAWR DA BESS ROOKIE RAWR I can actually pull a combo here, making all of my => three Hagurumon effectively 2/4, so I ditch the Floramon. ...this is about as tactical as it gets. It's straightforward, it's boring, but I still get addicted to it every time. Another 3/6 is most appreciated, given the two summons I was met with. That's a win, and I get a booster. Only Divermon can open them--I shit you not. I get Inned up at 8 BIT a pop [although I suspect I'll dump Monmon and Renamon after they help Charismabot by wearing gear, so I can get into El Dorado!], then I buy ~items~! Something like 800 BIT later, my Digimon are finally presentable. I'll recoup something like half of that eventually, but... it's still a big setback at this point. [Note: I looked up that El Dorado needs 210 combined Charisma to get in. I'm a stinker, I know. Damn straight. My Digimon are fly. And you know it. Ahh... peaceful. I freaking love the Gym. It's magnificent. ...these fellows are quite a bit less intimidating now that Greymon is a MANLY MAN. Shell Beach is a nice place--quiet music, ridiculously OP Digimon for a place so close to start--a good place. Just like the top of Plug Cape. Fuck Triceramon, they were put there to troll newbies out the anus. >implying I can't read your tag Your Gamerscore is pretty low, broham. ...I have no idea what kind of hook he's looking for. Might as well go kick some asses while I look for it. TO PROTOCOL RUINS! ...also I returned a Gabumon card to Tree-Kicking Kid. He told me to look for Veemon. Asshat. A maze. Why'd it have to be a maze. I never cease to be a-mazed by the depths to which I'll sink to elicit even the smallest chuckle. As opposed to sinking the most illicit chuckle, which would be... I dunno, killing the Joker or something. Protocol Ruins. Cool place, really. Soundtrack has a funky beat, enemies are intimidating but not overpowering, and one of the game's cooler events happens here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYpeOqUe0B8 Goburimon. These guys are pretty chumpy here--they're Rookies for a reason. 22 EXP yield. I... do not want to fall down here, virtual or no. That line's pretty damn hazy, so I'm staying ON THE GROUND THANK YOU. I'm moderately sure that this fight is technically optional. That said, this guy is the first real boss we see. WE SHALL FIGHT! ...I'm just gonna pretend Pharaohmon's just a bit off his rocker. Not even gonna try to make sense of this... not even gonna try. See, most games say this to give you a chance to scram. This game? Just lets you know how bad it's about to kick your ass. Joy. Yaranaika. Guy's so tall you can't even see his head. Given the scope of the game so far, this should feel pretty momentous--and it always does, no matter how many times I wreck him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htzn3BPXu5o The kickass music doesn't hurt, either. Pharaohmon dodges my first attack, and responds with this. He only hits four times harder than anything else you're likely to encounter. What a boss--metaphorically and literally. ...this... could take awhile. Thankfully, Greymon dodged Necro Mist... it poisons you. And, I think, is a Spirit attack. I definitely should've stacked Str more in training. Thankfully, Necro Mist only does 91 damage, and if it doesn't poison me, I'm golden. Three attacks later... this is what Power Charges are for, people. Bad End Return of Greynondorf. Fuck yeah, Greymon. How momentous. That said, given how DVXP [for Greymon's skill level, for example] is calculated, that part was guaranteed... even so. 10/10. He gave me his old, gnarled wand. ...I have no words. Hey, another generic enemy! Minotarumon can actually live a normal attack, surprisingly enough. Pretty manly for a generic. It's a Champion-level Digimon, and Air Blast kind of... wrecks it. Unabashedly. That's not a graphical error--I actually have to drop down beside Pharaohmon and take a hidden passageway under. What d'you think I came out here for? To fight Pharaohmon? Fuck him, he's boring and old and wants me to wield his Rod of Lordly Might. ...so you didn't see me beat up an ancient kickass Mega ten seconds ago. Really. Also, MasterTyranno doesn't have "mon" on the end of his name. This is the end of time. A random Dokugumon got in Greymon's way for a moment. Operative phrase: a moment. One does not simply fuck with Greymon. >heading East to Tyranno Valley and Kicking Forest Holy--Yaranaika. Apparently, he gives me Red Snapper--which is the hook for the fishing rod, apparently. I'll keep that in mind. And... over on the dock... are those Coelamon bones? These Divermon... they do NOT fuck around. Yikes. This is my first encounter with Gizamon, a water-element Digimon. It's stronger than it appears... just not strong enough~ This is Kicking Forest. Lots of trees to kick here. If you wanna find Cardmon--it's a hilarious Digimon, believe me--you can find them here... but only once Veemon spawns. And you find him by pressing X everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE, in the area. Tyranno Valley is a mess of bones, ladders, and powerful Fire Digimon that are... weak to Ice. I don't... I don't really get it either. Airdramon! It's big, it's ugly, and there's one in Seiryu City you never get to ride. What a digital cock-tease. Anything that can live through one of Agumon's attacks kinda gives me the willies nowadays. Well, fuck that noise--Agumon's busy levelling. And so is Greymon. Sprites can be deceiving. After your standard pre-battle banter [which is almost literally the same every time]... AT LEAST HE'S NOT AS BIG AS PHARAOHMON! ...this... could be an issue. And Master Fire did 159 in return. I'll get a screencap of it later, I promise. I honestly should've known better =/ AGONY oh fuck crit for 360 shit ass dicknipples fffffffffff- oh, wait. Eat it, MasterTyranno. I'm breaking this game, period. The rest of the fight is rather dull, sadly. We trade blows until MasterTyranno drops--end of story. Power Charge is... kind of ridiculously OP with bulky Digimon. Or anything that can take <500 HP on a hit, and make up for crits, really. But "Small" Heal is, too, so eh. gg MasterTyrannomon. ...MasterTyrannomon. Okay. Order has been restored to the universe. Oh god please don't be-- ...something that Agumon would briefly want to equip. Alright, then--I'm okay with that. Also, it lets me fight Seiryu Leader. YAY! But first, I backtrack back to Asuka City to train a bit and see if they have an auction, AKA one-way ticket to breaking the game. ...sue me, but I actually kind of like the design on this thing. Hey, look, a Digivolve! Growlmon... that's Guilmon's Champion form. Why did he learn this? Just--out of the clear blue fuckin' sky? Why? How? And why would I ever use a Champion form with awful techs? I mean, Plasma Blade is the shit, but beyond that... there's no lure there. how I feel every time. Without fail. No auction, but fun fact. In Asuka City, earlygame, you can buy single cards... like this. I swear that the game is trolling at this point. ...my body is ready. MasterTyrannomon, you putz! Do you want the Digital World to collapse?! Betcha can't beat my AWESOME GREYMON! Seiryu Leader opens with this ugly-ugly sumbitch. Effortless--but the fight's nowhere near over. Next, one of these bad boys. They're big, they're slow, and Greymon's Fire tolerance is ginormous. It's almost over already. And, with marginally more effort: goodbye Tyrannomon. Finally, Apemon--AKA the Big Kahuna. LET'S DO THIS! This makes him about as fragile as the other two--maybe even more so. And he hits maybe 20% harder. Ohh, man. So impressive. I'm secretly really disappointed guys ...now, two shots in a row? Okay. He might be annoying. Good job, Apemon. I... uh... Good job, Greymon. Way to carry the team. >pretty good >handed you your ass in 10 attacks with one Digimon and no items and shitty equipment Yeeeeeeah. The fuck is up with this line? Of all the adjectives... you chose honorable? Wouldn't that be a given, seeing as you're fighting the [presumably prestigious] Seiryu Leader? Ah, screw it. You'll stop trying to make sense of it, too, after a bit. And now I can train tolerances. Which is good, because ExVeemon is going to be a bitch to get. This has to get to 320 before I can get ExVeemon. I'll need to invest a ton of training to get there, but... I think I can pull it off. I think. I have until something like L45 anyways, but even so. Damn. To think I was gonna dip in for Small Heal... We should be done for today... right? Wrong. [spoiler=Breaking the Game] I'm trying to backtrack, and then stupid plot-relevant Teddy strolls along.... Teddy is a nasty, nasty little boy. Not a Mickey Mouse ripoff--I swear. Not... ...interested. Digimon Online broke, and now we're playing for free and our parents are probably storming MAGAMI with katana, baseball bats, street signs, and any guns they can scavenge. Yup. Nothing to do with this Lucky Mouse guy. And then Teddy leaves. But nobody cares! Assuming I'd naturally get another 20 points on Ice Tolerance before I need ExVeemon, that still means I'd be left with 234 points to raise it by. Gotta start chippin' away! AWRIGHT AUCTION TIME I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS ITEM IS BUT IT'S GOING TO BE GOOD GETTING IT ANYWAY FUCK YEAH BIDDING ON THIS SHIT HYES Now, observe, as I go to the Black Market with my shiny El Dorado ID. ...wrap your head around that one. You'd think these "item lovers" would know that Divine Barrier runs for 11k at random, and would be worth even more to collectors, but... hey. I AM WILLING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. LET THE REAPING BEGIN! I'm just a mite shy of a Kabuteri Horn, which yields another 70 (!!) Str, but I'll swing through and get it soon enough. Well, that's all, folks! I'm gonna crash, so see y'all next time, for "Awful Things, Including but Not Limited To: Guilmon, Gondolas, Blue Cards, and Backtracking"! ...and embedding issues. The ones you missed are awful short for the first two, and a soundtrack for the third. Sorry, gents and ladies. arvilino
I'd love it if you got Skullgreymon and BlackWarGreymon. If I recall, if he trains Dark Tolerance a bit he should be able to get Skull Greymon before Agumon reaches level 20 and gets Metal Greymon and then BlackWarGreymon well before Agumon reaches level 40 for WarGreymon. Well, seeing as Agumon's mostly sitting on his ass before L40, this could actually be a cool dip. That said, I have to dip 30 levels into MetalGreymon and 40 into WarGreymon anyway, since Imperialdramon is necessary for both Diaboromon and Imperialdramon-P [the two likeliest tracks I'd go for]... even so, I should get BlackWarGreymon pretty easily, all told. JSND Alter Dragon Boner
Renamon and Guilmon(Spear Equip for Renamon, quick level up for both, Renamon having Electric move early game, and quick access to Kabuterimon. Renamon is alvailable on 2 team as well, one of which give access to Phoenixmon) > The rest > Veemon and Bearmon(Veemon has non starter alvailability, while Bearmon has low MP pool, MP being harder to maintain than HP. Espinosa
I remember buying a conveyer translation of this game as a teen - not only was the translation incomprehensible, but the game would get stuck and freeze as soon as you unlocked a digivolution. I was in despair lol. I later emulated a proper English copy and got quite far, though there were some dungeons that gave me problems. Not sure if the game can be played efficiently - don't you need a lot of grinding, or is it a matter of training in the right stats? Do Renamon and Guilmon have a quicker evolution speed than other Digimon? I think I might enjoy playing through it again with actual knowledge of mechanics, typings (?) and whatnot. Though it still doesn't compare to Pokemon favourably (the only Digimon game that was tolerable to non-fans was the Card Battle, but I had spent a lot of time watching the German translation of the anime so I was a fanboy). JSND Alter Dragon Boner
Kinda, Guilmon and Renamon have fast levelling speed, so they got to their natural evolution quicker than the others Knowing mechanic and stats distribution helps at minimizing grinding, esp in emulator. Playing the game in PSX with minimum grinding is hard though
Terrador
>implying that fast leveling speed + 2-handed weapons doesn't equal wrecking all >Monmon top tier >Guilmon coolest Digimon /thread ...except not really 'cause I'll update this shit again later. Espinosa
Wow the FAQs for this game sure are useless. I'm trying to figure out which stat is responsible for magic damage - to make Kyubimon's first electric attack deal more damage. I got a big Wisdom increase, then tried Spirit - neither seems to improve the damage at all. So this specially looking technique is physical then? Should I try raising strength now and see what happens? Makes no sense whatsoever.

Terrador
[spoiler=Fetch Quest, Inc.]Hey, everybody, Terrador here! We return to Digimon World 3, where Junior and his AWESOME AGUMON are on a quest to kick ass, level up, and maybe score some tail from Ivy. Honestly, it'll happen. Last time, I was at Asuka City, getting Agubro some pretty sexcellent equipment. And, surprisingly enough, this Tamer Natsumi chick is willing to Digimon Battle me now! ...yeah, let's... let's assume that's the case. I hope she's stronger than Seiryu Leader, at least. That was a dull battle, and Agumon's only, oh, I dunno, twice as powerful now. [psst: that means he isn't getting back up. I'll get good at gifcapping eventually, I swear!] Throttle allows you to see the whole gory thing. It's delicious. Kiwimon is wrecked just as quickly. OHKOING EVERYTHING IS PRETTY GREAT. Also, I ran into some chick from Sydney who wanted a Card Battle. She got wrecked, the poor thing. Same with some "Gal Gamer Lucia". Base Folder, good enough to wreck them... yeeeeeeeeah, this game's a lil' borked. However, the guy after her was something like twice as strong. Which is to say, strong enough to beat the base folder with any amount of luck. GG me. Then this smarmy fuck with actual Program cards comes in... yeah, I got wrecked. Woe is me, etc. etc, except I don't really care about Card Battle. Maybe I'll actually build a deck later--you'll see why when I get around to a certain sidequest. I'm in the Kicking Forest once again, heading to the Gondola. Really nothing of note here, generally speaking. Seiryu Leader says there's a Gondola here that should take me to South Sector--neato. Now, let's go get to it! There's nobody operating the lift. Promising. It begins. Those of you who've played this game know what I'm talking about when I say this--and those who haven't can probably guess. Anyway... if memory serves, there's a Guilmon in Seiryu City. Let's ask him! Or her. Digimon don't really have sex, but express gender characteristics depending on their experiences and current Digivolution form. It's... complicated. ...well, apparently, I was wrong. A DRI agent mentioned WarGrowlmon, but I'm not quite high enough level to accept that quest. Ah, more's the pity--when he's available, I'll take him and... CRUNCH! Add him to the heap. We backtrack all the way to Asuka City, killing anything in our way just for the fun of it, to find this fellow here. ...wait. Who the hell're you? I get the feeling that either I'm about to be raped, or Greymon's gonna flex his muscles. After we both wave our dicks around, I'm confronted with this ugly-ugly fellow. Triceramon is a horrific troll earlygame, appearing at the top of Plug Cape and fucking up any poor Digimon that dares wander into its territory. This one, however, should be marginally easier. That... was not a one-hit KO. Thankfully, Greymon should be able to take a hit from this fucker. Right? OKAY APPARENTLY THAT IS GOING TO BE MORE DIFFICULT THAN I PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. ohthankyoujesusitwasacrit And one more is sleepytime for Triceradouche. While it seems like Greymon struggled here... keep in mind that the first time I did this, I had to spam Small Heal with Angemon until it Blasted into MagnaAngemon--which barely got the job done. ...oh, man, this is going to be hilarious. ...I have no words. Spirit attacking, you have wholly failed me. And I mean wholly. ...I... have... no words. I think you can guess how this ends. surprisingly enough, Kunemon nudged Greymon into the red here. Go figure! Greymon, you ungrateful prick! Oh, lawd, it's Blue/Gary all fuckin' over again. Except this guy is comically incompetent, barring his admittedly-manly Triceramon. Good news is, 5008 BIT later, Agumon is hale and hearty again, with a new toy! ...I'm pretty sure it would lower anyone's wisdom to rush into melee when you have fireballs of death, but... whatever works. Also, just pointing this out: Agumon is now cool enough to get into El Dorado by himself. Enough said. ...y-yaranaika? Not gonna lie, this worries me if subtext is taken into account--namely, how old/mature or Rookies supposed to be? I mean, I get it, if you swing that way, Renamon's a fox both literally and metaphorically, and pretty clearly an ice queen adult. But Guilmon? Man-child, at oldest. I don't have high hopes for Veemon's age... ...okay, he and his Guilmon are separated now. Bloody hell--time to comb the city. Not down here... Aha! That was easy. I worried I'd have to go to Seiryu City to get that Blue Card! Due to an unfortunate misclick, I didn't catch what he said, but it was basically: "I don't have it, but my cousin does.":"He said he was going to Seiryu City." "He might stop someplace to eat first, though." ...fuckall. I'll check the tavern, and if there are no clues there, I'll head to Seiryu. U-HO! We are in a game. WE ARE IN A GAME. HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU DRINKING?! Seriously! This is VIRTUAL! Junior can drop from three stories up without the barest injury! You are comatose in a fucking pod right now and hallucinating Digimon. That is literally what we do here. And you are drinking. The genuine fuck. Okay. Okay. I think... I think I have my cool back. ...except Guilmon is not here, at all. We soldier on, regardless! Maybe some training will help... ...yeeeeeah, that happens sometimes. Speed drop is a thing. ...wait... Speed... I thought it was Agility! I don't... I don't understand anything anymore. I do know that my next trip will have some Speed training in it, though! ...challenge accepted. ...big fishes... right. Because a Poke Ball [yes that's what it is] with a card for a tail--that's a fish. *tableflip* They do have some pretty spectacular EXP yield, though. Props for that. Also, they drop really shitty booster packs for the card game. Yes, that's what these Digimon exist for. I... I don't know either. Yay, Speed! The more observant among you will notice that Agumon's Def is in purple--that's because Cardmon curses you on a successful attack. It's only 3 points [iirc] and will be gone after a few battles, but it's... irritating. To say the least. ...in Seiryu City, you'll never guess whom I didn't find. Guilmon, the slippery fuck. Grrrrrrrrr. BACK TO ASUKA I GUESS Hey, look, Divermon! It sits around playing card games all day long, so it must be pretty wimpy, riiiiight? Oh Christ it survived a Greymon attack everybody panic!! Holy... this guy... I have no words. After all that, he doesn't have the common courtesy to die. How rude. But, when we try using Greymon's newly-learned Double Power first...! They still run away. Fuck it, I'll leave the pussies be. Bitch-ass cowardly-ass diver bitches ain't even got no common decency to die when they should. I drop by Forest Inn for a heal, only to discover... AHA!! It's, uh... it's... something. Still, one must wonder how many Guilmon are just dicking around in these two sectors. Seriously! There must be a bajillion of them! Even Seiryu Leader has one--and he won't let me borrow a Blue Card! I HAVE REALIZED THIS AND IT HAS FILLED ME WITH GREAT FURY This has got to be the right Guilmon. It simply has to be... right? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH! Now, to the Gondola! But first, another Digimon that seems to hate fun and justice! ...well... that might... take a little while. *three hours of drunken, enraged spamming of X later...* We found a Woodmon. Yay. *twelve hours, a dozen energy drinks, and a smashed keyboard later...* ... *So long that the old narrator got tired of waiting and we had to hire a new one* I got the Tree Boots! Y'know what they're good for? Getting ambushed by shit I kicked out of the tree, apparently. So many hours, wasted... so many lives lost... LET'S GET ON THE GONDOLA~! Well, Gyazo ate my other GIF, but... I've been had!! Tune in next time for more of my anger at Guilmon! I'm very tired! Terrador
[spoiler=Rage Undying]Alright... let's get back to Seiryu City. I should be able to find Guilmon there! ...words cannot express my fury. What friend? Where? ...I have to go all the way back to Asuka City's Inn, don't I. I check Forest Inn for completeness' sake, and... this fucker. Who are you, Mystery Guilmon? ...no way... that didn't... did that just happen?! WE MUST TEST THIS YES YES YES ...because nothing can just randomly work in my favor. Of course not. I have no idea what this thing is, besides being presumably a machine-element Digimon. What I do know is that throwing an angry dinosaur at it solves everything. DAS' RIGHT BEEYATCH! GIT SOME! GIT SOOOOOOOME! GET SOME BITCH-ASS PUSSY-ASS BULBMON So chump. Time to finish this!! ...okay, that's peculiar. At this point, I resetted multiple times, even going so far as to spam Power Charge until he Blast Digivolved. SkullGreymon's finisher? 123 damage. There's literally no way to do more. Why? Because the asshats who coded this game decided that you didn't need any more EXP. WHY. Gotta kill 'em all! Especially Bulbmon. Fuck Bulbmon. Here we are, at Bulk Swamp! Digimon are a lot stronger here than before--there's a definite difficulty jump. That said, the difficulty jump helps prepare Agumon for the enemies before him! Let's-a go!! ...apparently, even an Ambush fails to hurt Agumon substantially. Agumon OHKOs back for a tidy 40 EXP. ...this is gonna be fun. Even if the Digimon Battles are staying manageable... the Card Battles are getting way out of my league. I should make a real deck eventually. This is Gekomon, a Water Digimon. It has a confusion attack. Confusion is awful--the commands are scrambled, and you can't even necessarily do anything. It's just ninety kinds of awful. Thankfully, Greymon hits hard and fast and doesn't have to take your shit, Gekomon! This is Tranquil Swamp. A ghost lives in that hut!; it's impossible to go in without being chased back out. Another Water Digimon Greymon OHKOs. You can actually fish these up--I just thought showing Cardmon would be funnier. TWO CARDS STRONGTH There's also an Inn here! Rather handy, seeing as I only have so many Power Charges at the moment. I should head back to Asuka City sometime for training and item restock. An accessory or two might be handy, too. There's really nothing of note here, so I return to Bulk Bridge to find another route. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYCSxeGoVy4 Jungle Grave, the scariest place in the game. I'll tell you why in a bit. Coelamon, Gekomon, Yanmamon Green, they all give something like 40-41 EXP a pop. Just... wait and see on this. Yeah. Musyamon, the demon samurai. It's... kind of ridiculously strong. Even Greymon, in all his overleveled glory, struggles. And no, this isn't intended to be a Beef Gate--you have to go through this area, this long-ass area, to talk to Zanbamon. What the hell were the developers thinking?! Were they assuming you could... run away? Because protip, you can't. They're WAY too fast to do that even halfway reliably. These things are stupid, and the developers are pricks. And it isn't a difficulty spike, either--shit afterwards goes back to being reasonable. It's just a matter of "save at Tranquil Swamp Inn and hope to GOD you don't hit one of these en route to Zanbamon". It's awful. That said, I let Greymon eat a few Power Charges and Blast to SkullGreymon, just so I could have the pleasure of wiping one of these punks out. Yup. 155. So 110 freakin' EXP more than the normal encounters, or ~= a boss battle. Yeah. Shit's crazy. After more smack talk... ZANBAMON. Also known as those other guys, but manlier. Yup. Deathlizard is afraid. For almost literally no pre-described reason. This part of the game... this part of the game. It's just plain bullshit--enough said. At least the game is courteous enough to escort you back out of the Musyamon Shred Radius. Although... apparently Junior pussied out? Understandable, especially given that the game is coded such that Zanbamon won't one-shot your Digimon--that said, he's tremendously strong when you actually do fight him, and Junior is clearly MARY SUE KNOWS ALL LOVES ALL KICKS ASS OF ALL. Might as well head to the Swamp Inn to heal up. So that's a Shaman House... huh. Well, I'd better go investigate! please don't be a sidequest please don't be a sidequest please don't be a sideque-- And now my life is ruined forever. He mentions Baronmon--but you have literally 0 way of encountering Baronmon in any way, shape, or form up to this point. Iyaaaaaaagh!! Might as well BACKTRACK, I guess. Tried-and-true strat! Yes, manbearpig? ...well, way to give a hamfisted hint, game. To East Sector I go! Aww, a Tamer chick wants to battle! ...a Betamon, a Kiwimon, and a RedVegiemon, AKA three attacks later, Greymon's up a hundred EXP. So manly. Baronmon's not in Kicking Forest... He's not in MasterTyrannomon's domain... Thirst: yes. Fall damage? Apparently not. Do I even need to say how this ends...? It was one Tapirmon. One. Tapirmon. It's in the TOP PERCENTAGE of Tapirmon, but even so. Crabmon, Gekomon, Gizamon. Not even remotely a challenge. Baronmon isn't in Protocol Forest, either... Booyah. ...dowhat? Isn't he in that hut? This makes absolutely no sense. That... is not a very good best shot. The Goburimon that preceded this thing was even chumpier. Presumably. It's like they don't even know. Two Kunemon and a Dokugumon. "Oh, man!" I love the Gym. Absolutely love this shit. ...what. I just... what?! Might as well go check out the city. ...it appears Sepikmon has been dropping banana peels and taking people's candy. Ohohoho, so inconvenient. You know what is convenient, though? Making 10200 BIT in about two minutes. That is handy, right there. I splurge on a few Rings for Agumon [to protect him from random status conditions, and swapped out as appropriate], and that still leaves me with quite a bit; time to stock up on Power Charges [field healing], Super Charges [full HP restore at this point!] and a miscellaneous item or two that could save my behind. also tutorial guy attacked me with a pair of Kuwagamon. I wrecked him. ...well, time for more fetchquesting! As a side note, he means the Attribute of the Digimon--in this case, Virus. Oh, I'm about to do a whole lot more than scare you. [embed]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iabC7-9YUG4[/embed] His final words. Well, then he told me that Etemon took a "gaudy shield"--then he said this again. So I count it. Back in Asuka City, here's what Etemon has to say on the matter. Oh, you sneaky fucker. I know you aren't just gonna run away. You're a giant ape! I can spot you from a mile away! ...just like all those Dokugumon, Kuwagamon, Minotarumon, and Woodmon... oh, God, I'm boned if he makes it to Central Park!! AHA! Let's just make sure you haven't pulled a Tricky Guilmon... LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE NOT LET'S RETURN THIS SHIT, DO-WOOP Also I can kill Divermon now Unreliably, but still! They don't drop card packs, strangely enough. Also, I retooled my card folder; now it's a shitstorm of low-end Champions. Still enough to get the job done, though! Those stupid-difficult Card Battles are getting easier now--they're still boring for y'all, though. A million miles of foretracking later... Sepikmon has his mask back! What he gave me really doesn't matter. Seriously. You're better off not knowing. You'll feel dumber for having heard. You do not want to know. ...suffice it to say that it reeks. And guess what else I have for Zanbamon, should he not be sufficiently dealt with by That Which Shall Not Be Named? NOVA BLAST MOTHERFUCKERS AWWWW YEEEEEEEAH I ran into... this in Jungle Grave. How queer. With Zanbamon still here [for the moment], you'd think I'd have a Musyamon to NOVA FLAAAAAARE to Hell and back [although I kinda wish I had Plasma Blade; that shit is tight], but nope. This fucker--barely a challenge, barely provides EXP. Junior: needs shorthand for talking. Yaranaika. Tune in next time for Suzaku City and the Digi-Egg of Sincerity! arvilino
I don't know how exactly it's calculated but magic skills run off the spirit stat. You can tell whether an skill is physical, special or support by the colour(if I recall) icon next to the attack name, I think it's blue for magic and Kyubmon's 1st skill is a magic attack. However magic attacks are very underpowered in this game. I'd argue(unless there's an exception I'm unaware of) it's not worth training spirit in comparison to strength for basically any Digimon outside adding variety to the team. I'd say Speed/Agility(increases evasion and accuracy of physical moves and if you're fast enough you get 2 turns); Strength(for damage and weapons and some helmets boost it further); Defense(just lowers physical damage taken); Wisdom(powers up healing skills, I think increases evasion and accuracy for magic attacks and status skills, lowers magic damage taken) Are the best stats(by quite a margin) to raise except when going for certain digivolve requirements. JSND Alter Dragon Boner
The Zanbamon is tied to the spawn of Musyamon, so whenever Zanbamon is there, the game spawns Musyamon And [spoiler=Those who have not played the game]Theres a good reason why that thing is so OP. They appeared again RIGHT before the difficulty spike and drops Dark Chip That is surprisingly a decent "coding" for that time TBH "However magic attacks are very underpowered in this game. I'd argue(unless there's an exception I'm unaware of) it's not worth training spirit in comparison to strength for basically any Digimon outside adding variety to the team." 2x 10 TP training to spirit to spam electric type move to farm Divermon > Grind Divermon GG game
Espinosa
I just restarted the game (this time on an NTSC version), this time going with the shitty Maniac pack. Patamon is indeed that bad, but then there's Guilmon who never learns anything useful (only buffs) in his Champion form (not never, but in a timely manner anyway). There's a way to make Guilmon insanely strong though. I bought Patamon's Divine Shield during auction right after getting the first badge, then sold it for 11K (like in this LP but earlier), which allowed me to buy a 2H sword for Guilmon and a Kabuteri Horn, pumping up his attack to 500+. I can predict Guilmon to my best Digimon right now, though before this shopping session Kumamon was easily the best (his techs appear to be physical because they're stronger than the normal attack and the gap between atk and spirit is fairly big). Low MP is pretty bad though. What's this Divermon grinding method I hear about? He gives more exp than anyone else or what?
JSND Alter Dragon Boner
I have never saw someone using that trick on the net tbh Basically fishing is less random, which make it easier to grind with and it happen to give 60 EXP for that early on the game Divermon is weak to Electric, which means if you have Kyubimon, it can kill it more efficiently The best grinding method in the game is basically beetwen this, Musyamon, Tuskmon, and JS Numemon until the difficulty spike >_> Guilmon can get Stingmon with 80 Electric Tolerance Yeah.....
