Melodi
So, you know how you were saying the legs were a bit off? Well I'm here to see if I can help you remedy the issue! The first thing that I see is that the shape of her pants suggests that her right leg (artist's left) is super broken. It's not always easy to tell until you map out what a body part is doing underneath a piece of clothing. I did my best to draw out what I assumed you wanted her legs to be doing, and I've got to say that aside from the pants, the only other major thing that's up with her legs is her right foot and leg (artist's left) are turned too far outwards in relation to her hips! Otherwise, the pose is looking great! Hope that helped! ouo
Xenomic
Oh, huh. That left foot IS out a bit more than it should be. I did these fixes last night prior to your post, so I don't know if that's better than what it was (I feel it is anyways) or not. As you can see, my reference for this is May over there, since she's exactly the same height as the character that I'm trying to sprite, and hence the reason the legs are in the pose they are. Of course, I'm not going to copy the sprite pixel by pixel, I never do that, but it's a good base for a lot of things (I don't think I'd been able to do those shoes otherwise. @_@; ) The left/foot leg may still need touched up on though considering...how it looks. Blah! >_<
Xenomic
100%:200%:I ended up using May's leg more than I'd like for that left leg, and I also moved the leg over to the right a few pixels. I think it looks a lot better now? Doesn't look nearly as broken as it did before. I'm still not satisfied with the cuffs on the bottom of the pants though. They don't feel right, but alas, that's something I can fix up later if I don't have to fix anything else with the legs, since there shouldn't be anything else getting in the way of that like hands or anything. Maybe the baton holder itself, but hopefully not! Also, I am not sure how to handle the pouch at all. I don't think anyone has anything I can use as a reference for it. @_@;
Xenomic
Breasts, my mortal enemy. Never was good with those. I dragged over parts of May to help with outlining, don't think the arm is gonna stay that way. Not sure on the pose still yet. I was also NEVER good with the torso proportions (if my earlier drawings that people may have seen is any indication to that), so it's going to look...wrong there for sure. But yeah, very slowly getting through this. Guess it's going to end up more of a replica of May than I'd like it to be. : S
Xenomic
I...I tried. I'm not exactly 100% happy with how it came out but...at least the breasts look right now? >_>; That middle part is a pain in the butt and I've no idea how to deal with it. Nor how to handle the white part of the collar. I don't even know if that's the right place FOR the collar even. >_<
Xenomic
Looking a lot better now yes? Breasts were fixed up, same with pockets. Zipper was touched up, and slimmed down the center of the vest. In addition, tried to fix up the black...patches...things...on the shoulders, and struggling trying to get the top part of the zipper done. How do you do ovals/circles in pixel format!? >_< After that's touched up, I'll probably start outlining the head/arms, which should be fuuuuun. Especially since arms are one of my worst points outright. Or maybe I should try to do something about the pant cuffs...>_>;
Xenomic
Well, at least she doesn't look like a May copycat anymore? ^^;Btw, the hair was done completely from scratch, no bases used. I probably could've used Jam and Baiken a bit, but didn't think I needed to. Hair is usually one of the things I can do fine in pixel format for some reason...of course, there's still some issues here and there but yeah. Also, not sure how to handle that right eye at all...dunno if I did it right or not. >_<But hey! It's coming together at least? ^^;
Xenomic
So, I'm thinking of doing something similar to Sol's pose with the arms. Problem is? Sol's arms are way WAY beefier than May's, which may be a bit hard to size down properly due to the muscle tones. I'm also thinking of trying some other arm poses, but not sure which ones would be good. I'm thinking one hand should have the baton in it, and the other with nothing but....I got nothing. For today, not much got done. I got so far as to copy May's left arm because...it felt like it was a good stopping point where I stopped as I can do the upper arm in whatever pose from there if I so desired. The right arm I was thinking of just having it have her hand on her hip or just in a pocket like Jotaro but I'm not really feeling the proportions on that arm at all. It looks really, really awkward. And why yes, I did try to visualize the way the arm would look. Though visualizing and then doing it is one thing (planning it out like Steve's showed me is another thing I just can't do as I'm not great at doing body lining like that T-T ). Anyone have any good suggestions or bases for this??Also, I haven't sprited the pouch for the baton on her left side because don't know if anything will be covering that or not. That's another thing I'm also still unsure of how to do...but overall, slowly getting there. I kinda want to do the shading but I'm holding off due to the arms not being finished. By the way, if anyone wants to touch up on the sprite, feel free to do so! And if anyone would like to attempt a Midnight Bliss for this lovely lady, there's actually an image in the reference link up above that has one such one, and could be a nice challenge for anyone that wants to try a hi-res sprite~ :
Xenomic
Hoi! Very long time no see folks! I'm heavily considering getting back into spriting yet again, and at the very least try to finish this sprite up above. However, motivation is a real killer, and I'm not sure how to work it up to finish it. I mean...the sprite is pretty close to being finished (in terms of raw outlines), and I wouldn't imagine that doing the fix-ups would take too long, but...I don't know, I just don't FEEL like working on it. Despite me not doing much else (all I've done lately is work on my LPs. And that's it, bar some FFWiki work. I haven't even touched my RPG Maker game outside of some fixes). Anyone have any suggestion for motivation right now? I just want to get closure on this sprite since I was making it for a DA buddy of mine, but arrrrgh!!! >_<On top of that, I KINDA want to try another sprite but...I don't know if I will. Xenomic
Howdy! Been a long time! Normally, I wouldn't bump this thread without showing SOMETHING, but...well, I haven't touched anything since that very last sprite. I'm thinking about once again getting into spriting (I know I said this 3 months ago too, though the constant BSoDs I was having kinda put a damper on that. Thankfully, I got a new HDD and RAM so that's no longer an issue), and am thinking of picking Nala back up, since I would like to finish that for Alan. All that I really need left to do for rough drafting is that arm, which was one of the big things that kept me from finishing it (didn't know what pose to go with and didn't have any good references to work with). I also need to fix up other things here and there, such as the pants (the primary thing there), and some other things here and there. But once I get that arm down, then I should be able to finish the rest of the sprite. I hope. I might also try to finish Lenna since she was halfway done with the rough draft too (though same issues as before. Didn't know what to do with poses and positioning, and just lost motivation afterwards). For those who don't remember Lenna's sprite, it's ok. That was 2 years ago. Here's where is still stands:Don't ask why her face is already shaded. Maria was like that, as well as Nala. I think it's because I took the faces directly from characters and the shading was still there (for instance, Nala's head is from May's, while I THINK Lenna's is from...Shannon from Ougon?? Xenomic
So, since I'm sooooo bored and don't want to work on wiki, nor have any idea on what to do for Touhou Fantasy (and can't stream because streaming wants to lock up my computer it feels like? I haven't messed with the settings in OBS Studio too much so I'm not sure if the bitrate is too high or something else or CPU is going bad or what), so I decided to attempt a bit more spriting for Nala. I want to at least finish her before I do anything else. Lenna MIGHT be next, and then...I don't know! I may want to attempt to try someone...interesting I guess?Big shoutout to Graphicus for pointing some things out to me (though there's obviously some things not fixed up yet like the legs/pants.) and...I forget who helped with some other things over on RPGMaker.net (which Graphicus was ALSO going to show me but I found the references before he did it up lol). I at least got that arm going (thanks to Lilica's sprite. I actually found a freaking arm sprite to help with that! I was going to have her arm bend outwards but decided to just go with this arm), so now I just need to do the hand which is going to be the hard part (since I want her to be holding her baton in that hand, but...well, I don't know of any sprites that'll help me with that. Any FEMALE sprites anyways, since Sol definitely isn't helping (he holds his sword in his other hand anyways) and...well, yeah!). I also adjusted face and torso a bit more so...hopefully that's better there? ^^; I put a blue outline on her clothes too to help tell where the hell things were. Rezzy
The sprite on the right looks very nice; the girl on the left has a head that looks a bit small, or might benefit from a more defined neck.
Xenomic
Yeah, May's sprite is the reference I'm using to help with Nala's on the left. Everyone says Nala's head is to small lol. I think it's mostly because she just has so much hair too, since the head is from May's just about. But yeah, the neck MIGHT be the way to go, if the collar wasn't a pain in the butt to deal with. Not sure how to define it more atm personally, I don't sprite very often lol.
Rezzy
I'm no spriter, but maybe adding a few pixels to lift her head up a bit, also maybe shift her head to her right, our left. It looks like she's jutting her head forward a bit.
Xenomic
Hmm...yeah, that might be what I need to do actually. IIRC, Nala is about 5'2" and May's about 5'4", so trying to make her SLIGHTLY shorter than May is a challenge in itself hue. Maybe I tried too hard to make her feel a little bit shorter. I might actually need to add a few pixels for the neck on the right side of the sprite. I probably should take a look at Charlie's sprite, model for the collar, now that I think about it, since he wears a vest kinda similar to hers. Rezzy
You could try taking the pixels out of the elgs, if you want to make her slightly shorter. In reality, torso and neck height has less deviation than leg length, and an inch taken from the legs is less noticeable than an inch taken from the neck. Xenomic
Yeah, I thought about taking pixels out of the leg honestly. They might be a little TOO long personally but...we'll see what happens! I just need to find a good sprite reference for the hand grabbing something (for Nala, she uses a baton type weapon, but having anything for grabbing something similar would help a lot)
