Is it -impossible- to compare two things?

Recommended Posts

Is it impossible to compare two things? (Or rather, is "You cannot compare Swords and Axes" correct?)

[13:29:33] Fateborn: she's broken

[13:29:36] Fateborn: without me even grinding
[13:29:39] Fateborn: lol
[13:29:41] Kisara: who?
[13:29:46] Kisara: MU?
[13:29:57] Fateborn: all I did was bench everyone and keep Olivia, Chrom, MU, Whatever
[13:30:00] Fateborn: Olivia
[13:30:00] Fateborn: lol
[13:30:06] Kisara: oh
[13:30:09] Kisara: ok
[13:30:12] Kisara: makes sense
[13:30:30] Fateborn: in reality
[13:30:33] Kisara: i thought you were doing a casual playthrough w/o restricting your units to them
[13:30:33] Fateborn: she's more broken than my own MU
[13:32:04] Fateborn: well Olivia could solo anyway
[13:32:10] Fateborn: she doesn't really need chrom's support
[13:32:10] Fateborn: to kill everyone
[13:32:13] Fateborn: lol
[13:33:47] Kisara: yeah, she really doesnt
[13:34:01] Kisara: FE13 vs. FE7
[13:34:09] Fateborn: c:
[13:34:17] Kisara: FE13: Oh, it's just 20 enemies, he can survive by herself.
[13:34:32] Kisara: FE7: HOLY SHIT 20 ENEMIES SURROUNDED HER IM DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.
[13:34:51] Fateborn: -looks at Kisara-
[13:34:54] Fateborn: -Then to Pent-
[13:34:57] Fateborn: Uh
[13:34:57] Fateborn: Okay
[13:35:02] Kisara: ?pent
[13:35:11] Kisara: Did you read it
[13:35:12] Fateborn: Yeah Pent.
[13:35:17] Kisara: Read what I said
[13:35:25] Kisara: Pent==guy;
[13:35:27] Fateborn: FE7: HOLY SHIT 20 ENEMIES SURROUNDED HER IM DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.
[13:35:36] Fateborn: so?
[13:35:47] Kisara: FE7: HOLY SHIT 20 ENEMIES SURROUNDED HER IM DOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.
[13:35:57] Fateborn: That wouldn't work
[13:36:00] Fateborn: because she doesn't exist in fe7
[13:36:06] **Kisara facepalm**
[13:36:15] Fateborn: -stare-
[13:36:21] Fateborn: Beside
[13:36:24] Kisara: I never said both her's referred to the same person
[13:36:24] Fateborn: yes she will survive anyway
[13:36:33] Fateborn: Also
[13:36:38] Kisara: And you won't know that
[13:36:39] Fateborn: Lyndis'd like a word with you
[13:36:48] Fateborn: i'm fairly sure she can survive 20 surround orgy
[13:36:56] Kisara: I would say 'can't' but you can, so instead i'll sick with won't
[13:37:08] Kisara: Lyn sucks lol
[13:37:17] Kisara: In my files, anyways
[13:37:28] Kisara: I just stopped using her after a while //shrug
[13:37:33] Fateborn: what
[13:37:39] Fateborn: Kisara
[13:37:42] Kisara: she was good like, 1/10 playthroughs
[13:37:44] Kisara: And again
[13:37:45] Fateborn: if you actually put effort into her
[13:37:48] Fateborn: she'll destroy everyone but dragon
[13:37:49] Kisara: I do.
[13:37:58] Fateborn: unless you really put a bigger effort
[13:37:58] Kisara: I've tried putting effort into most units
[13:38:26] Kisara: Inclusing Lyn
[13:38:27] Kisara: BESIDES
[13:38:40] Kisara: Who even said 'her' referred to lyn?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[13:41:23] Kisara: I love how once I strengthen my point further, I am ignored by the person who I was arguing with :/
[13:41:37] Fateborn: Kisara.
[13:41:43] Fateborn: For the love of god
[13:41:49] Fateborn: I do not know what her you are refering to
[13:41:58] Fateborn: and since Lyn is a her, I used her as a subject.
[13:43:03] Kisara: Well, you were talking about Olivia, so I thought you would draw the inference that it was a dancer, hint hint Ninian.
[13:43:17] Fateborn: Of course not...
[13:43:29] Fateborn: Olivia and Ninian are not the same.
[13:43:29] Fateborn: to start with.
[13:43:32] Fateborn: Olivia can use sword
[13:43:34] Kisara: It wasn't a jab at FE7's difficulty. I was more... making fun of Ninian for not being able to be very useful.
[13:43:35] Fateborn: Ninian can't
[13:43:41] Fateborn: I don't even understand why you'd use that.
[13:43:43] Kisara: That was the point.
[13:43:53] Fateborn: -facepalm of highest insult-
[13:43:59] Fateborn: No Kisara.
[13:44:05] Fateborn: it's not fair to use a noncombatant
[13:44:11] Fateborn: with a combatant
[13:44:13] Kisara: Fair?
[13:44:17] Fateborn: seriously
[13:44:17] Fateborn: that's stupid
[13:44:18] Kisara: Are you serious?
[13:44:29] Kisara: It's perfectly fair.
[13:44:33] Kisara: They're all units.
[13:44:38] Fateborn: I'm beyond serious, I'm shocked at your irrelevant IQ.
[13:44:56] Fateborn: First of all.
[13:45:01] Kisara: How is not fair being stupid?
[13:45:05] Fateborn: Can you really compare axe to sword?
[13:45:10] Kisara: Yes.
[13:45:11] Fateborn: can you really compare karla to bartre?
[13:45:17] Kisara: One is -better-*
[13:45:17] Fateborn: answer- no.
[13:45:26] Kisara: Axes are axes, swords are not.
[13:45:29] Fateborn: Nope.
[13:45:30] Kisara: I just compared them.
[13:45:51] Fateborn: That's not comparing, that's personal ego opinion.
[13:46:06] Kisara: No, it's not. Ego? How does that even come into play?
[13:46:31] Kisara: Axes are usually not used by Blyvern, he finds axes more difficult to use then swords.
[13:46:36] Kisara: Comparison.
[13:47:00] Fateborn: I can keep this argument all day. First of all, you said one is better.
[13:47:03] Fateborn: which is impossible
[13:47:07] Kisara: No
[13:47:09] Fateborn: because Axe can be better than sword as well
[13:47:30] Kisara: I saidaxes are better, yes.
[13:47:33] Fateborn: No?
[13:47:36] Kisara: THat is a comparison.
[13:47:46] Kisara: It is false, yet it's a comparison.
[13:47:54] Fateborn: Then you failed to make it significant.
[13:47:58] Kisara: areweseriouslyarguingsemanticshere
[13:48:08] Kisara: Significance doesn't matter, it counteracts your point.
[13:48:18] Kisara: You said I can't. I did.
[13:48:24] Fateborn: No.
[13:48:33] Fateborn: Because your comparsion
[13:48:36] Fateborn: are personal opinion
[13:48:36] Fateborn: not facts.
[13:48:42] Kisara: It's still a comparison
[13:48:51] Fateborn: No.
[13:48:57] Kisara: You said I cannot compare them, and I did
[13:49:09] Fateborn: You did not compare them
[13:49:13] Kisara: Yes, I did.
[13:49:15] Fateborn: you chose which one was your favorite and went with it.
[13:49:28] Kisara: In a personal opinion
[13:49:41] Kisara: stating which one is better is comparing them in your own POV
[13:49:57] Kisara: *using your own POV, or preference
[13:50:03] Fateborn: That is irrelevant in the facts.
[13:50:11] Kisara: It is relevant
[13:50:12] Fateborn: You have to respect the facts of the universe when comparing.
[13:50:12] Fateborn: you didn't
[13:50:20] Kisara: Fact: Blyvern has stated to like axes better
[13:50:30] jiodi: well thanks for having the dumbest argument i've seen in weeks
[13:50:31] Kisara: Fact: I just compared Axes and Swords
[13:50:39] jiodi: i can be happy for another couple
[13:51:02] Kisara: Come on, you it's impossible to prove something cannot happen, besides that initself
[13:51:07] Kisara: &you know
[13:51:17] Kisara: You're using... inductive reasoning, I think it's called
[13:51:30] Fateborn: This argument is getting in the way of my playing. And Kis, you just contradicted yourself.
[13:51:42] Fateborn: 'Impossible to prove something that cannot happen'
[13:51:48] Kisara: Come on, you it's impossible to prove something cannot happen, besides that initself
[13:51:55] Kisara: At least quote the whole thing
[13:52:00] Fateborn: -Compares ninian and olivia-
[13:52:02] Kisara: Now, where was I
[13:52:06] Fateborn: That itself is impossible.
[13:52:12] Kisara: You also misquoted it
[13:52:14] Kisara: No.
[13:52:20] Kisara: You're using inductive reasoning
[13:52:44] Kisara: Just because every past observation tells you that X is the answer, it doesn't mean youre answer is right
[13:53:00] Fateborn: False.
[13:53:09] Kisara: *observations and every. bit. of. knowledge.
[13:53:09] Fateborn: History repeats itself, you know that.
[13:53:15] Fateborn: Therefore, the answer is correct.
[13:53:16] Kisara: That's an opinion.
[13:53:28] Kisara: Also, no.
[13:53:36] Kisara: History does not always repeat itself.
[13:54:01] Fateborn: World War, Extinction, Stravations, etc
[13:54:04] Fateborn: yeah I made my point.
[13:54:13] Kisara: It's a weak argument conisidering you're basing it off of something POSSIBLE
[13:54:16] jiodi: in my opinion on of you is hitler
[13:54:20] jiodi: thanks obama
[13:54:32] Kisara: Also, Fate
[13:54:34] Kisara: World War I
[13:54:37] Kisara: World War II
[13:54:37] Fateborn: Kisara, you contradicted yourself again.
[13:54:42] Kisara: No, it was not repeated.
[13:54:46] Kisara: Different time.
[13:54:49] Fateborn: With that, I win. peace.
[13:54:50] Kisara: Different name.
[13:54:53] Fateborn has left the room
[13:54:54] Kisara: ...
[13:54:57] Kisara: What?
[13:55:04] Kisara: What was my contradiction?

I at least want to know my contradiction. (Note to Fate: i won't argue here, I just want opinions)

I'm just sad this didn't go any further into "umadbro" or the "i bet youre a 40yo nerd living in their parents basement" insults.

Well, for being ungrateful person to even bring it to GD attention, this proves you have simplistic mind, an argument should never involves others.

First of all.

I didn't say it was impossible to compare sword and axes.

I said it was impossible to compare the sword and axes for the deeds they provide, which it seems I may had failed to emphasis.

Now, for your own sake and sanity.

Drop.

It.

please summarise the point of those pasted logs

The point was basically an argument and it's where the question came from. You don't really need to read it.

As to Fate, I stated I " (Note to Fate: i won't argue here, I just want opinions)"

So I won't (as much as I would love to). If you want to continue it, PM me.

I said it was impossible to compare the sword and axes for the deeds they provide, which it seems I may had failed to emphasis.

by this, do you mean the axe and sword have differing purposes, and that is why they aren't comparable? like in a, "what's better, a nuke or a pair of jeans when you're trying to make eggs," sort of way?

i'm inclined to disagree anyway, but then again i don't know very much about medieval weaponry.

You can compare any two objects or concepts depending on the context, in which the context determines the thing in common between the two objects or concepts. So you can compare two objects or concepts as long as they have something in common. As it turns out, every kind of object or concept has something in common with every other kind of object or concept. You can compare apples and oranges in a conversation about the tastes of fruits (apples are sweeter than oranges, etc.); you can compare swords and axes in a conversation about which weapon is more lethal; you can compare pigeons and rocks in a conversation about concrete objects (both are made of atoms, etc.).

Fateborn is definitely trolling. He sounds even worse than Jaden Smith trying to say clever philosophical things, and that's saying a lot, because Jaden Smith is a moron.

I said it was impossible to compare the sword and axes for the deeds they provide

Lol, good joke. The function of swords and axes is to kill people. They can be compared in their function of killing people as follows: which one is more lethal? Lol.

[13:51:17] Kisara: You're using... inductive reasoning, I think it's called

From what I can see in the chat, Fateborn said nothing that can be considered "inductive reasoning" before that. Reading about Hume online and quoting completely irrelevant arguments doesn't make you look clever.

[13:53:36] Kisara: History does not always repeat itself.

That's not what Hume thinks. Hume thinks that history will probably always repeat itself, but it's not a logical step to go from "past inferences have always been x" to "it is always the case that x." Hume thinks that inductive reasoning is good enough for science but not good enough for reasoning.

I agree, if you kids want to argue something between yourselves argue it between yourselves instead of making a fucking thread about it.

Geez.
