the political compass (what are your political views)

This is actually a poorly designed quiz. All of the questions have a positive framing for things on the left and negative framing for things on the right, so why is it a surprise that everyone of us who's taken it is in the same quadrant?

If you don't, you sound like an asshole.

I actually took a Finnish equivalent of this type of test yesterday. The results being "conservative communist". A title I do not attest to

I strongly second Bryan's sentiment that these tests are rather poorly designed. The answers are typically divided to either "are you compassionate" or "do you advocate genocide".

On the flip-side, the leftist/libertarian sides of the axes are both negative, and the right/authoritarian axes are positive! Bias!

Well anyway, I kind of agree with what you guys said, except that I don't think that libertarian/authoritarian are necessarily connected with the left as opposed to the right. Some liberals do prefer an expansive gov't that interferes in private affairs, and many libertarians I've met seem to prefer pubs to dems here in the US, typically because of fiscal policy and welfare programs afaict.

hmm, more left/libertarian than i thought

I like to think I took a relatively neutral point of view with a lot of the authoritarian-type Q's.

Barack Obama is... right-wing authoritarian? What the hell

Yah I think American politics is about "less right-wing" vs "right-wing." I notice a lot of European political analysts basically saying that Obama is about as much of a liberal as the Tories in the UK.

I also found Obama's score weird, but what made think so wasn't the "left/right" part of it, but the "liberal/authoritarian" part (obama being as authoritarian as chavez makes me laugh)

Like, he supports legal marijuana, gay marriage, equal rights for all religions, and many other "liberal flags" yet he's pretty "northeast" on the thing...

I'd expect him to be on the lower-right quadrant.

But yeah, I don't really know his government that well (I'm way more interested in brazilian politics haha) so I could be wrong.

so this question has been asked here many times, and i take the quiz each time to see if things change at all. surprisingly, they don't, really. i've had relatively the same score the last 5 or so years. however, it really is worth mentioning that the questions are very biased towards liberals. though, i feel like it's pretty correct in my socialist stance. it's the libertarian bit that is probably a bit off.

I don't need a quiz to tell me that I'm a left libertarian, but I got very similar results to most of you.

If you look at the policies and actual actions of Barack Obama throughout the years, you see his rating is accurate. You kind of have to be there to get to where he is.

Just a couple examples off the top: despite not exactly hearing him ever sound tough on marijuana use in any of the speeches, his administration has put a heck of a lot of people behind bars for smoking it, as well as supposedly having gone after whistleblowers pretty vigorously. And then there's drones.

Actually, Bruce Bartlett made the argument that Obama is basically a classic, liberal Republican. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/obama-is-a-republican/
