Fire Emblem: Poem of Secrecy

She awoke to the smell of sweet mint and lemon. Cakes and tea were being prepared by the innkeeper. Pleiada rose from her bed, and walked to towards the window. She bunched the orange curtain together and tied it with a piece of rope that lay on the windowsill. She looked outside to see that the citizens had already begun their day. She stared down at a man that was rushing frantically. He was carrying various fruits, practically juggling them as he ran down through the plaza full of people. It was a busy day, and she had to get ready for her visitors who would be arriving soon.

Pleiada sat at her vanity and began to brush her hair. Her curly locks shined a roseate blonde, and cascaded over her slender and pale shoulders. Staring at her reflection, and into her amber eyes. She entertained the thought of hands caressing her shoulders, and braiding her hair. With a sigh she stood from her seat and put on her white bustier. She pulled a white cotton dress over her torso, with the skirt landing just below her knees. She wore a honey coloured cloak, but left the hood down. She lifted her white stockings over her thighs, and started to put on her boots before she heard a knock at the door.

"Miss, I believe you have some guests waiting for you downstairs. Shall I tell them that you will be arriving soon?" the innkeeper called through the door.

"Yes, tell them as such." Pleiada responded.

"Very good. I have tea and cakes if you would like to come down and break your fast as well." the innkeeper lady insisted.

"Thank you." She replied.

Pleiada retrieved the letter from her drawer and read it one last time before she put it back in the envelope and into her cloak pocket. She wondered who would turn up to escort her to such an obscure location in the middle of the forest. She had been receiving letters from what she believed to be a secret admirer. They were poems, and rather cryptic, but she loved a good mystery. She yearned for adventure, but did not have the skills or courage to set out on her own. Her friends and acquaintances back home would have laughed at the suggestion. She opened the door and descended the staircase, not knowing who would be there to greet her. She had never done business with mercenaries before. She walked into the reception hall.

"Hello, my name is Pleiada. I am here to pay for you to escort me to the Spectral Woodlands. Pleased to meet you."

She curtsied.

Ylisstol was busy this morning, but that was nothing new. The young taguel was used to the busy nature of human towns by now. A stark contrast to the small, nomadic settlements of his kind. He had heard that long ago, humans also lived the way taguels and manaketes did today. He wondered when and why they switched to crowded cities.

A little boy pulled on his mother's sleeve and pointed at him. "Mommy, that man looks funny! Why does he have bunny ears?"

"He's a taguel." The mother said. "He's a person like you and me, only he can turn into a bunny."

The kid's eyes were as wide as dinner plates. Fivel chuckled softly. If he wasn't pressed for time, he would stop to show the kid his rabbit form and chat a bit.

He made his way to the Sapphire Inn and took a seat in the reception hall. A few others had arrived already, all humans...but he had been working with them his whole life, so it wasn't a big deal. A young human woman entered, introduced herself, and made a gesture that looked somewhat like a bow, but not quite. She was clothed in somewhat plain, yet obviously formal garb. It made him feel a bit awkward in his simple leather tunic and sandals.

He stood up and smiled. "Well met. I am Fivel."

Life on the wing was such a bore at times. To many civilians the idea of flying about seemed like something special and unique, beyond their own comprehension, and the notion of it becoming uninteresting was difficult to believe. Yet as Blodwyn flew high on overhead on her pegasus the only thought on her mind was not how amazing it was, how she could see for kilometers around, or even how the wind felt on her face. Rather, she had her coin purse out, carefully counting what few coins were inside, mentally running through the list of costs.

"I hate being dirt poor." she sighed as she tied the purse shut. "I've only got a few gold coins to spare now Nyx. You eat too much damned hay. If this job doesn't pay off not only will you have to eat grass and rest outside of the stables for the next month but I'll have a fat flying pony instead of a warsteed."

With that she slowly began to circle the manor, the place where she had been hired to work as a mercenary most recently, lowering herself down a bit with each circle. Some people assumed a Peggy could just divebomb a place and land on a time. That was true... if you didn't mind having broken bones. Surprisingly a heavy horse and rider without claws or proper grip needed to have a bit of a runway for proper landings, but it didn't matter.

As she landed outside she quickly reached into her saddlebags, grabbing a carrot, which she quickly fed to Nyx before heading on indoors. She was a tall woman with braided, aquamarine, hair tied up in a bun except for two bangs on either side of her face. Already she could see the master of the manor and a rabbit-boy already talking.

"Am I late? If so sorry. My name is Blodwyn, mercenary pegasus rider, and pleased to meet you."

He stood over her, staring at her earnestly with icy blue eyes. He wore a simple leather tunic and that was all he needed, because the rest of his body was covered with hair. She noticed the velvety rabbit ears that rested on his head, and smiled. She knew of the Taguel, but never expected to meet one. He seemed to have a congenial attitude, which should be pleasant on a long journey. She liked him already.

"Thank you for joining me today." She said quite pleased.

"I have never been to Plegia before. The border is north-east from here, just across a bridge. It will take two days to get there." She explained.

She wondered if he knew this area well. She imagined that he might be helpful once they reached the forest, but quickly dismissed the biased assumption. Surely his beast form was a ferocious sight, or would it be something more majestic? She had only ever seen illustrations of the Taguel in books. This was the first time she had ever met one.

A lot of jobs unpaid, mostly because he didn't finished the way he was supposed to finish, Edward became know as the ''Not so good Merc'', a name he was ashamed of bearing, still, that wouldn't make him quit his mercenary life, because that was the only way of living he knew, after losing most of his family years ago life was being hard for him.

After a rough night, wandering through the city, the green haired ''not so good'' mercenary, Edward finally reached the Inn he was supposed to meet his contractor and partners, yet he arrived a way too early, and so decided to take a nap on one of the Inn's tables.

He woke up after a young taguel and a girl in a very formal dress start to present themselves. The first thing that came into his head was '' God, I hope that taguel is not one of my partners ... '', but this was quickly changed to '' That girl is the contractor? That dress shows me money ... Oh Yeah more money to my account! ''.
As soon as he thought to get up, another girl with aquamarine hair and wearing an armor that looked like a pegasus knight one, came claiming to be one of the hired mercenaries ... ''Nice hair...'' he thought.
''Hello to you all, my name is Edward, I am also one of hired mercenaries, was just taking a nap. Nice to meet you.''

The gleam of the suns rays came through the windows of the inn. Dust glittered under the dark wooden beams that bordered the ceiling. The reception hall was warm, and there were plenty of people conversing. The aroma of home-cooked meals filled the air. The smell of meat pies, baked potatoes, and savoury gravy were being wafted from the kitchen. The constant creaking of the panel flooring accompanied by the chatter of enthusiastic customers purchasing the first meal of the day. This inn received many travellers that crossed the border of Plegia and Ylisse, due to the location of the town. There were merchants and mercenaries alike.

There was young girl with turquoise hair who introduced herself to Pleiada. She was pretty and willowy. Her lean figure suggested that she was a rider.

""Am I late? If so sorry. My name is Blodwyn, mercenary pegasus rider, and pleased to meet you."

And then there was a man with green hair who acquainted himself with the party.

''Hello to you all, my name is Edward, I am also one of hired mercenaries, was just taking a nap. Nice to meet you.''

Pleiada looked at them both and bowed lightly.

"Greetings, to both of you. I hope you are well rested. We will be travelling across the border today, and there are no other towns from here to there."

Just as she said those words, she wondered how she would fare compared to these people. By the look of them, they were mercenaries. Edward carried a sword. Pleiada stared at his sheath. She wondered if they would be running into any trouble on the way to Plegia. She figured that they probably would, which is why she hired mercenaries. Blodwyn looked far too young to be a sellsword. She wondered how often the young girl fought, for she did not have a mark on her. Pleiada smiled and invited her escorts to break their fast.

"If you have not eaten yet, then feel free to order a meal. I will pay for it."

Fivel stiffened a bit at the mention of Plegia. Back in the day, they had allowed some cult to run amok and operate within their borders. The taguel didn't know much about the cult other than they were called the Grimleal and that they acted like bandits at times. And while Plegia had never really bugged the taguel tribes, their soldiers weren't as friendly when they passed through as Ylissean ones.

The green haired human had been taking a nap. Fivel hoped he wouldn't be overly lazy, everyone needed to pull their own weight. The other one seemed more reliable, she had announced that she was a pegasus knight and that was interesting. And their employer seemed to be easy to get along with.

"I have never been to Plegia either." The taguel commented. Then he smiled when Pleiada offered breakfast. "That's nice of you, thanks!" He then proceeded to order a croissant and a cup of carrot juice. "I brought a little bit of food...but it's better to save it for later if I can eat here."

"Heh. A good meal? You serious? And it won't be coming out of my paycheck either?" asked Blodwyn with a somewhat surprised and skeptical look on her face. "I won't complain though if you're going to offer. Some sausage would be nice, as would some carrots." she said before looking around, her hand going back to rub the bun on her head as she thought about the compliment from Edward. "I'm curious though. I've got a Pegasus so why haven't you just asked someone like me to fly you there? Would be a lot faster and, even if I asked double, you'd pay less than hiring three separate people."

Emil looked at the crowds marveling at so many people and in less fancy dress then he was used to he walks up to an fruit vender taking an apple and then putting probably too much for what the apple was worth down on the table and walks off happily humming while eating the apple

"So many people! I hope I don't look too out of place..." he said softly to himself looking at his bright light green shirt but then quickly forgets about that as he sees his destination the inn where the Lady who requested the adventures was setting up the meeting he heads inside seeing the out of place group with a Taguel(I never thought I'd see one I thought they were rare? maybe this will be even more fun then I thought!), a Pegasus knight, a Mercenary and the golden haired Lady."Ah! Sorry I'm late Milady, Sir. " he takes a bow holding his staff in his right hand looking rather out of place as he was obviously of nobility he smiles kindly and says "Sorry I was too busy looking at the scenery to take notice, I hope you will forgive me for my tardiness."

Dougal found his way through the hasty crowds, caravans, workers and businessmen alike in the street and into a road where an inn stood among a strange mix of houses and business establishments standing abreast. He peered on the sign above its door, then picked a letter from his pocket to be sure that the inn he looked for and the inn that he found were one and the same, and nodded, not wasting any time before rushing inside the room hurriedly.

The inn was already filled by the time he got there, with servants running around carrying plates back and forth from the kitchens while clients were busy eating, chatting, or complaining about how long it took to earn what they paid for, with all varieties of food that would be served as breakfast. "One of them is my employer, but which?", he thought when he peered at strange groups of mercenaries and employers, from rich looking merchants to hooded men and women trying to keep some secrecy. Some looked back at him, and Dougal was quick to avert his eyes before causing any trouble.

He approached the innkeeper, dodging the bolting servants as they carried drinks and food from tables to kitchens and vice-versa. As he finished attending to the adjacent men, he looked toward Dougal and asked his order. "I am looking for someone called Pleiada. Does that name ring you a bell?". The man seemed to think for a bit before approaching the young mage and saying, "It must be the blonde woman with curls, wearing a white dress and cloak, that you're looking for. She's on the rightmost side of the inn, near the stairs to the second floor". Dougal nodded to the older man and thanked, then looked for the describled woman. "It would be simpler if she were to describle herself in her letter", he thought as he strode toward the rightmost side.

It was simple enough to find the woman that was described by the innkeeper, even in a crowd. He found her to have a captivating, magnetic presence. "It must come from the way she dresses and portrays herself", he thought. The woman seemed as regal as a noble to him, and likely to be more educated and of upstanding than she decided to reveal in the letter, but he ignored these impressions for now. "It is not like all women with curls and dresses are nobles, this is a silly thought. She could very well be a merchant", he thought.

Dougal approached the table, his right hand gripping the paper strongly. "Morning to you all", the young mage stated, yet his eyes looked toward the woman he was referred about. "You are Pleiada, are you not?", the question was more rethorical than inquisitive, and he continued before she had the chance to speak back, showing her the paper he held in his right hand, "I've been hired as an escort, and I intend to accept the job. Excuse me for coming so late".

Sometime after they sat and started eating, a mysterious looking man, using a dark green robe, arrived, asking if that's she's Pleiada, the contractor of that escort. Edward soon greeted the robed mysterious man.

''Good morning, welcome to the party lad... What's your name? Mine's Edward.'' __ s8S0xw7.png

''So, looks like we even got a mage of some sort with us. Good.''

''You guys said you never been to Plegia, right? Lucky you, the place is a mess, at least in my opinion, some people said it's better than it used to be, still I hated. They got some cool robes and coats there though.''

Dougal turned to the man next to him who had just called his attention. His first impression was that the man could very well be a highway thug, if not for his armor, lending him to think that he was a mercenary of sorts, or an army veteran. "Uh, g-good to meet you also. I am Dougal". He tried not to sound intimidated, yet his start had shown otherwise.

When he heard mention of Plegia and the path they would take, he joined the discussion. "Plegia seems to be much of a mess than it was, at least on the outlawed areas where the King's influence does not reach. We should have as much caution as possible". Dougal turned to look at the group, seeing a rather colorful ragtag band, but his mouth opened with surprise. "Is this our group?". He noticed the question had been stupid at first. "Ahem", he coughed, "Is this all of our group? Will we cross into the Plegian border just by ourselves?"

She watched as Fivel walked away to make his order after admitting that he had never been to Plegia before. Pleiada turned to Blodwyn who was suggesting to escort her personally on her flying steed. Pleiada almost shook at the thought of being so high in the clouds. She did not doubt that the young lady had good intention, yet she was caught off-guard by the suggestion. She did not think of this prior to making the arrangements. As a result, she had to question the possibilities, and immediately thought the worst.

"If your horse was ever to sense my fear, I am certain that I might fall. Falling from such a height would prove to be fatal."

The truth was that Pleiada had been planning this adventure for a while. Ever since she read the first letter, she felt that it was her calling and her escorts were already here. She was in love with exploring and mystery, yet still weary of danger. She would come across as rather juvenile, or even mad if she admitted that she was doing this more for sport than business. Perhaps becoming a pegasus rider was, in fact, the answer. Perhaps, she simply lacked confidence and that flying would teach her to be brave.

"Blodwyn, I apologize for speaking too swiftly. I think that I should pay you to teach me how to ride. Yet, I would also pay you to scout ahead for us. I would scout with you. Understand these to be the first steps, that I would need to take in order to fly with confidence."

She smiled at the slender rider, and turned to see that more people had approached her. She met the eyes of a young man with bright red hair.

"Sorry I was too busy looking at the scenery to take notice, I hope you will forgive me for my tardiness." he said.

He was a healer. Speaking of the possibility of dangerous outcomes, such as injury, a medic was crucial in times of crisis. She took note of his ensemble. He wore green, which complimented his fiery hair. She enjoyed his aesthetic, and saw the quality of his garments. She closed her eyes and curtsied.

"There is no need to apologize, sir. My name is Pleiada, pleased to meet you."

Just after she bowed to the young troubadour, she saw the shadow of a man, in her peripheral vision. He approached her and called out.

"You are Pleiada, are you not?"

His appearance contrasted with that of the previous man. His eyes were dark, and his hair was too. He reminded her of a raven. He had a rather serious look to him, perhaps even a bit of a troubled soul that dwell inside. Pleiada supposed that he was knowledgeable, for he appeared educated.

"I've been hired as an escort, and I intend to accept the job. Excuse me for coming so late".

She clasped her hands together and rested them on her skirt. She lowered her head for a quick bow, and her hair drift in front of her. She quickly tucked the locks behind her ear, and faced both of the men this time.

"Yes, I am she. And who might both of you be?" she said to the bright healer and the dark spellcaster.

He turned his face back toward Pleiada as she called him. "I am Dougal, excuse me for not revealing this sooner". If he did not find a way to fix his manners, then his first impression should not be as good as he expected. "Uh... Is this all of our group?", he repeated once more, believing that his employer did not hear him speak, what with being surrounded by men and women asking her questions uncessantly.

"It seems like. Or, if not, they should be here soon. Punctuality is key for anyone." said Blodwyn, shaking her head slightly. In truth it irritated her for people to be more than a few moments late. After all, couldn't it be planned a bit better? Either way... "If you want me to teach you how to fly, Ms. Pleiada, I can teach you the basics, but it takes a lot of work to get good. Still, you want me scouting ahead then? I can do that easily. Anything I should look out for in particular or just bandits?"

The scar-faced mercenary spoke of Plegia with most indifference. If it was true that the country was unstable, then they may face some more felonious activity than what they were used to in Ylisse. Pleiada was not even familiar with the laws in Plegia. All this was more cause for concern. Pleiada frowned and breathed a heavy sigh.

He turned to her and spoke. "I am Dougal, excuse me for not revealing this sooner".

"Much obliged." She exchanged pleasantries with the stygian fellow.

"Uh... Is this all of our group?" He asked.

"I believe so." She responded, despite being as unsure as he.

The man named Dougal appeared to be unarmed. This lead Pleiada do assume that he was a spellcaster. If she did not know any better, he looked like a Plegian. He held himself rather timidly. If he was well-versed in the dark arts, then surely he would know something about the Grimleal. She would have need of someone who was experienced with such magic.

"We will be crossing the border by bridge. There should be border guards present, but I have never been across this way before."

She spoke openly of her ignorance, but it came from a place of honesty. Her family taught her to be humble, yet there was something boring about it all. There was a thirst for adventure, and reading these poems had quenched it. She thought of the fables that parents read their children. The letters sparked a fire inside of her. She was ignited, and determined, despite the doubts that were harbored. At this time it felt important to have faith in her decision.

"I may not be able to predict what might happen, but I believe to be prepared for most occasions."

A serving lady passed by Pleiada and Dougal, to place a tray of food on a table next to the escorts. Pleiada smiled at the woman and said thanks. She eyed a lemon tart, but waited for someone else to eat first. Blodwyn explained that flying did indeed take practice, but accepted the offer to help her learn. The pegasus knight then asked about her responsibilities.

"Anything I should look out for in particular or just bandits?" The blue rider said.

"It would be most useful to know if anyone was approaching us, but we should not assume the worst. It would be helpful for you to tell us if the weather is changing. Should experience heavy rain during our travels, then we would be robbed of time and not by bandits." Pleiada responded.

Emil nervously looked around then he looked at Pleiada saying "Milady do you mind if I eat a bit? I have only eaten an apple this entire day and I am famished." not to mention he has been incredibly lucky on avoiding the trouble his mother and father spoke of. He walks to the table as if waiting for people to seat him.

He asked her if he could break his fast before sitting down in a chair. He had odd manners for a healer, for he had still not told her his name. The serving lady returned with a tray of sweet mint tea. Pleiada tapped on her shoulder.

"Hello, I am the guest staying in the attic room." Pleiada indicated. The attic room was the largest and most expensive one available in the inn.

"Oh! I hope our accommodations have been satisfactory milady. My name is Gwen. Is there anything else I can do for you?" she asked.

"Yes actually, would you please serve the young gentleman sitting in the chair over there?" Pleiada pointed at the troubadour.

"Of course milady." she complied.

"Oh, and would you be able to tell the stableman to have my horse ready soon? I will be departing after breakfast." she indicated.

"Very well, consider it done." Gwen said as she poured Pleiada a cup of tea, before turning towards one of the hired escorts.

Pleiada sipped at the steaming cup and looked around at everyone. They would embark on the journey as soon as they were acquainted with each other,

"Ah may I please have whatever you recommended?" he smiles turns sets his staff on his lap patiently folding his hand in his lap "I'm sorry Milady forgive my dreadful manners I am S-Emil just Emil." he slightly winces at his slip up 'I need to get used to introducing myself as Emil and not Sir or Lord...' he thought to himself the waitress brings out some food(not going into details because I don't know my mind is really blanking) as he eats and comments on how good it is softly

Wearing his grandfather's robes to conceal himself from sight, Shadow silently but quickly made his way to the specified location. The message didn't specify who hired him or what the exact place was, only the coordinates. Ylisstol was a busy place as always, but he was used to it, being a masterless sellsword who lived in hiding since his parents were sacrificed to the Grimleal.

After an hour or so of walking, he eventually arrived at the inn. "This is the place," he thought. He entered, and looked around. He saw a Taguel, a Pegasus Knight, a Mercenary, a Shaman, and a noble-seeming lady. "Sorry to keep you waiting," he spoke softly as he removed his robe, revealing his armor underneath. "I am Shadow".

Edward stood, looked at the aquamarine haired girl, and asked:

''Ehh Blodwyn, am I right? Let me guess, you're broken right? Why you do not really seem to be those peggies, who are in the business of mercenary services only to train and improve their fighting techniques.''

Blodwyn stopped for a moment as she gave Edward a confused look, her lips clearly sounding out what he had just said as she tried to figure it out.

"If you mean I am broke and need money, yes. I need gold. Bad. I didn't have much in the ways of money beforehand and didn't get enough to support myself while training, so I set out to try and earn enough to become a full-fledged Pegasus Knight. Why do you ask though?"

Edward, shrugged, and said:

''Oh no big deal, I just like to know a little about my partners. Usually peggies are in this to train their skills, and usually that results in them, jumping in front of the enemy without any sort of cooperation. But when they are in it for the money, they tend to cooperate with their partners. And as you're in it for the money then we'll get along, just fine.''

After a pause he said:
''In case you wanna know anything about me, feel free to ask. Now, If you excuse me. I'll talk to that red-haired boy over there, he seems to be some sort of noble.''
Edward approached the red-haired boy and asked:
''Emil, is that so? Who are you really, your garbs they seem to be very expensive, nobility like almost, could you tell me anything about you? But if you don't want, there's no problem too.''

"Well you see..." Emil tried to figure out a way around answering him but despite all the political talk at his home he was never food at lying or trying to make up a story so he decided on the truth "You see I was always at my home I never truly ventured out of the gardens. However I always wanted to see the world outside, after enough pestering Mother and Father let me out on this...adventure for me I suppose you may say." Emil blushed and looked embarrassed at the last line

I am so confused at what am I trying to do for this character I swear no character I RP has ever been this nice!
