The Tharja card from today's tweet is completely new to me. The previous Tharja card we had seen only had the Flux skill and no support skill, where as this has a Skill called "Curse" or "Hex" alongside a new Support skill of some sort. It is interesting to note that this Tharja card does line up with the Promo Tharja card from the site, just like the previous Minerva Peg Knight card and her promo counterpart.

Thanks Hardin! The full translated tweets don't have too much more to add outside of the Marth card being a holographic card and that the Lucina card is also available in the normal retail version of either Fire Emblem if game.

"[Kawade] For a limited time when you buy a physical copy of either version of Fire Emblem If an exclusive toi8 illustrated Lucina card will be included!"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608448289428647936

"[Kawade] toi8 is hard at work as the Main Character Designer for the collaborative #FE game. #FE is set to release sometime Winter of this year!"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608448466344390656

"[Kawade] For those who buy the Fire Emblem if Special Edition, on top of the Lucina card you will also receive this holographic Marth card as portrayed by Daisuke Izuka!"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608448556991676417

"[Kawade] Daisuke Izuka worked as a character designer on Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem. We thought it would be appropriate for the "Special Edition" Marth to be a really cool looking card, so we got him to lend his expertise!"

New user here. But I found this on twitter that I found interesting. Shows a new Tharja card, from what I see the effects are all the same as the previously shown card, just a different image. Anyone mind translating the conversation? I hope it's not some exclusive like the Lucina and Marth ones.

Edit: Just found this link too http://fecipher.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-19.html

Yep, that Bento Box of Chocolates Tharja is an exclusive promo card and it's another scenario of a Promo card being simply an alternative illustration to a more readily available card. We've been discussing that in the Cipher discussion thread. This Tharja promo card was shown on the official site last big update that they did among others. It and the other 6 on that page are exclusive cards that can only be gotten by going to the events being held in June at participating locations.

Well damn, guess the only way to get those is to second-hand them or something, what a shame.

Edit: I'm reading over that page a bit and it seems like participants only get 2 random cards out of the 6? Can anyone confirm? I can probably try to use a proxy service to buy a card for me but if it's random that makes it much worse.

Everyone participating in the tournament will get a random pack with 2 of the 6 cards, the winner of the tournament will get an additional pack, and one random participant who stays until the end of the tournament (besides the winner) will receive an additional pack.

Also, these Cordelia and Wrys cards are exclusive here, while the other 4 cards are the same as in the set just with different illustrations.

Damn, they really are complicating things. I don't mind if the cards are the same just different art, I'm treating this as more of a collectors things than anything. Hopefully people decide to sell the cards online and I can snipe them for cheap or something.

Of course the promos cards have their own collectors value, but as far as gameplay goes, only the Cordelia and Wrys are unique here. It might take a little while but the cards will definitely show up on Yahoo Auctions and at shops in JP. In my experience promo cards of this rarity (freely distributed to everyone who shows up) usually don't get too expensive. If the winner had their own special pack, those cards would be highly sought after. I'll be checking the card shops around me as the game grows in JP.

I'll just be checking Yahoo auctions and other sites daily once the events get started. You should consider selling some yourself if you find any. I bet a good amount of people would want them especially considering it's never coming to the states.

If there is a demand here or elsewhere I will definitely consider it. I live next to several card shops and a 24 hour post office so it will be very easy for me. And unfortunately it is very unlikely this will leave Japan.. Maybe a digital version will emerge at some point.

Yeah, all the exclusive promos kind of make it hard for those of us hoping to collect outside of Japan, but I'm hoping I might be able to snag some on Y!J and the like, at least for the ones that have art I super like.

Question! Why is it unlikely to hit the states? Are TCGs unpopular here? Is Fire Emblem? If either answer is a yes, then it is certainly news to this guy here! As far as I'm concerned, if IF comes and goes here with nary an announcement of this game, then I don't see it happening. Don't forget that decks and boxes will be coming with DLC codes for IF, so unless we aren't getting them (or they come up with another method), then it boosts our chances.

Basically, stranger things have happened. I bet CFV was never considered to be something to ever leave Japan, either. And don't forget that YGO was intended from the start to be a passing fad.

It's less that TCGs are unpopular in the States and more that TCGs are really, really, really popular in Japan, so it's a much easier (and less risky) market to break into. It's indeed possible that the game will be translated and released Stateside (or even worldwide), and if it does I'll certainly be there to buy cards up and support it, but I won't be holding my breath.

Let's pretend that IS hears my birthday wish, and announces this game for worldwide release. Some of the promos won't make the hop over - this has been true for all the TCG games I can think of.

Yeah, even in super popular translated TCGs, there are plenty of promos that don't get released in English, especially when they're just cosmetic like the Cipher ones all seem to be.

The twitter updated last night with card intros for both the Lon'qu that was leaked in the Famitsu scans and his promoted counterpart. There's also some talk about an upcoming livestream event.

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608883440339943426

"[Card Introduction] Lon'qu is infamous for his hate of women, but is it really hate? Carrying over from the games, this card is stuck with a skill that makes it impossible for him to be supported by female units. Maybe this card would best be suited for a males-only deck? (Illustrator: Clover K) #FEcipher"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608936594993586176

"[Card Introduction] The promoted Swordmaster Lon'qu seems to have a bit more experience dealing with his gynophobia, doesn't he? His attack power goes up for each ally sword-bearing unit on the field. Use his unavoidable attacks to finish off an opponent. (Illustrator: Clover K) #FEcipher"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608939129770942464

"[Event] There will be a special Niconico livestream event on June 22nd just before Cipher launches. For more information on registering for the stream and other details, check the official site #FEcipher https://fecipher.jp/contact/campaign/"

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/608939214521024512

"[Kawade] Of course, I'll be there at the special livestream on the 22nd. I won't be helping with the preparations of the event hall (my apologies), but I will be hyping this up alongside all the fans. I hope you all tune in for the niconico stream. #FEcipher"

TCGs actually are quite unpopular in general in the US. Yes, the successful TCGs are huuuuge and enjoy a ton of success, but there's a small number of successful TCGs in comparison to all the failed ones. Just a few I can recall off the top of my head: Digimon TCG, Sonic X TCG, TMNT TCG, GI Joe TCG, MegaMan TCG, .Hack TCG, Yu Yu Hakusho TCG, Teen Titans TCG, Shaman King TCG, Zatchbell TCG, etc etc. A whole bunch of those died after 2-3 sets, and while most of them were not carried over from Japan (besides the first Digimon TCG, I think these were all made in America), we have had some card games (like Gundam War) which tried to make it out of Japan and totally failed (I only ever saw demo decks in English and nothing beyond that).

Even card games that were doing well eventually died: the old DBZ card game, Inuyasha TCG, Bleach TCG, VS System, WoW TCG, etc

CFV was in Korea almost instantly after coming out in Japan, it was also developed specifically to be a TCG with an anime dedicated to promoting the card game.

And a lot of TCGs in the US get their success from appealing to a huge audience, and I don't really see Fire Emblem appealing to kids the same way Pokemon or Yugioh does.

As far as Fire Emblem not being popular, Awakening sold around 390,000 in the US (only sales figure I could find), but that is far from enough to keep a TCG alive. Whereas Pokemon X and Y have sold over 2 million each in the US (if these numbers are accurate), and even then the card game is nowhere near as popular as it once was.

You also gotta figure in the different costs in each country. Cards in America cost about the same as in Japan, yet Japanese cards are usually of a much higher quality (looking at Vanguard for this example). Whereas in Korea, a pack of cards is 30-50 cents and a box is about $10, but the cards are a lower quality (and actually, as far as Vanguard and Pokemon goes, they're about the same as the US cards, the foils don't come close but the cards themselves are just slightly worse).

It's a big risk no matter how you look at it, and it's completely understandable that they're probably not willing to take that risk. And obviously just because Japan is getting DLC codes packaged with the cards, it doesn't mean we won't get those codes some other way (or at all). I know it's not the same, but look at Bravely Default, we got a whole bunch of DLC included in our game that required them to get codes from books, soundtracks, and other things, we also missed out on a whole set of DLC costumes as well.

tl;dr: No matter how successful the big TCGs are in the US, most TCGs don't ever hit that point and it's just a risk to bring over the Fire Emblem TCG. It's not impossible, but it's highly unlikely.

More Kawade tweets about the Cipher Experience events and a previously unseen Camus card introduction

"[Kawade] The very first Cipher Experience event has begun! ^^"

"[Kawade] The first Cipher Experience is now over. I am extremely glad so many people came out, thank you so much to all the fans! Since there are even more Cipher Experience events lined up, there are many more chances from tomorrow onward for those that might have missed coming out today. Come by if you can! #FECipher"

"[Card Introduction] This is Camus, Captain of the Sable Order and most able-bodied soldier in all of Archanea. Only one tweet today since it's the weekend. Kawade talks about fans playing Cipher as their first TCG.

https://twitter.com/FEcipher/status/609539693777039361

"[Kawade] While reading stories of people's experiences at the Cipher demo events, I expected there would be many Fire Emblem fans. What I didn't expect was how many people gladly particpated in a TCG for the first time just because they are fans. ^^ #FEcipher"

That Camus card is badass. The BS Fire Emblem artist proves that she's the best once again.

I really do like the full art cards like this and Gaius, and I imagine the holo-foil will make them nice and shiny as well. This might be the single greatest thing that has happened to those that would want to collect Fire Emblem merch, what with almost all characters being represented and portrayed quite well by top-notch artists.

Oh, the art is certainly amazing. I hope there's a Cynthia card somewhere in there (not looking good though; maybe in a year!)

I briefly checked on youtube and niconico for videos of the Cipher demo event, but nothing popped out yet unfortunately.
