Macbeth (Lago) can use Staves.

You mean that Iago dude from the Treehouse event footage? I was noticed that female sorcerers have the same animation as male sorcerers. Perhaps they were considered to use staves at one point?

Does Iago still have S rank in tomes plus the Sorcerer class bonuses?

Iago is the only Sorcerer to use staff, he can still have S-rank tome.

Obviously this means that he's not playable.

I'm thinking that Infinite Staff ability gives Sorcerers the privilege to use staves in addition to getting instant ten range and infinite uses. Infinite Staff ability is likely going to be enemy only.

That's like saying why isn't swordmaster or sniper in nohr either

it's basically the same class with a different name and aesthetic it doesn't need to be in 2 countries, especially with them trying to keep 1 S rank class per weapon (stones aside)

I think the archer/sniper and soldier classes should've been multifactioned. Maybe give them a different uniform or color palette depending on their affiliation.

The rest of the classes are either too culturally specific (like cavalier or samurai) or are too similar to an opposing faction's class (ninjas are basically Hoshido thieves) to be multifactioned.

So they have Lance Fighter for Hoshido, but didn't bring back Halberdier for Nohr?

most likely because Lance Fighter is supposed to be the Soldier/Halberdier, much like bowmen, samurai/myrmidon and pegasus knights/warriors.

Last I checked, isn't it the Lancer that's the parallel to the Soldier of other games?

What I'm trying to say is that Lance Fighter -> Lance in Hoshido is supposed to be the playable Soldier class, Halberdier promotion and all. It IS that class just with a different name and given to Hoshido to keep with the thematic that Hoshido has all the specialist classes (minus Berserkers because those are mostly bad guys and Hoshido definetly can't be evil) and Nohr has all the mounts (Except for Pegasus because those are the good guys, Nohr gets Wyverns because Wyverns are bad guys), and much like in the Tellus games it's broken as hell because you have essentially a lite-general without the movement restriction nor the armor weakness. The Soldier is class in Nohr is a class reserved for weak mooks as that has been a standard in the series for a while, Nohr doesn't have it as Soldier -> Halberdier because it would defeat the purpose of the Lancer class being in Hoshido in the first place and because Hoshido needs a weak enemy with a lance that isn't packed in armor or riding a horse.

Well, for Trueblades and Holy Bowman, I'd argue that the Brave Heroes and Bow Knights (I guess Adventurers too) are the Nohrian parallel to those two classes.

Even though they don't have S weapon ranks, they fulfill similar combat roles, one being a frontline unit, where the latter is a support unit that attacks form a distance...

It makes sense.

Nohr--Hoshido

Cavalier--Ninja

Dark Mage--Spell Caster

Rod Knight--Priest(ess)

Wyvern Rider--Pegasus Warrior

Fighter--Oni Savage

Mercenary--Samurai

Outlaw--Bowman

Lancer--Lance Fighter

Garou--Fox Spirit

I don't know if you guys discussed this before, but is the the Warrior class going to be omitted in Fates? Are fighters going to promote to Heroes or Berserkers?

Soooo... No Warrior?

This is not 100% accurate. Warrior got a mutation on the Hoshido side. Shuras replace Warriors. They have axes, godly attack and defense, good HP and speed, specialize in Axes, have a ranged option in spells(the mutation), and even have counter, THE Warrior skill.

Wow, that sounds awesome! Is there a Nohr equivalent?

There aren't really equivalent classes between Hoshido and Nohr; every class is different (with perhaps the only exception being Hero/Blacksmith which are nearly identical).

The Shura is basically a beefy Warrior who can use magic, though. There is no class in the game who can use both Axes and Bows.
